The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:

Afterpains? fourth degree tear?!!!!... there is no emoticon appropiate for my state of mind after reading this...

It is my first, (and probably only one Smile)
I'll try not to worry about these things... specially since now I'm seriously considering a home water birth, so will instead start to worry about emergencies and ambulances not being in time, etc.

Good luck with Gp suzy

three days till my scan!!

EauRouge · 03/10/2010 20:54

Ah, but there are also no emoticons to describe how completely worth it it all is Wink

worrymummy · 03/10/2010 21:43

hi all,

have tried to catch up with all the news but there is a lot! hope those with spd and utis are feeling better...

still letting the baby girl news sink in (not 100% sure of course though he didn't say a percentage). am i weird in not buying anything (having given all the newborn babystuff to my sis), not researching buggies (having sold my phil and teds), not even looking into names(still liked the ones we had for DD1 and 2 if they were girls)?

am really enjoying 'bonding' with baby though, knowing that she is (probably)a girl is really lovely. ds2 is giving my tummy lots of kisses, and raspberries too, which is very sweet!

a question about spd - can it affect the hips or is it just at the front of the pelvis?

hope you all have a good week, and bloom! xx

knittakid · 03/10/2010 23:00

Oh earrouge that's sooooo sweet! sorry for concentrating on the bad things....

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 08:53

No, don't apologise knitta, I think it's good to talk about your birth worries so that you can prepare and do lots of research. And it's totally normal to worry about it but never doubt for a second that you won't get through it.

One of my mates had a very bad 4th degree tear and was telling me all the gory details the other day and then in the same breath said how desperately she wanted another baby- so there ya go Wink

worrymummy, I think SPD affects the whole pelvis as well as the lower back.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 04/10/2010 09:11

Remember too that fourth degree tears are very unusual. Heck, even third degree tears are pretty unusual.

angels1 · 04/10/2010 09:44

agree with knitta on the aaarrrggghhhh feeling at the thought of tears and afterpains. Didn't really even know this could happen before I started mning. At least I can claim all the time on mn is educational Wink

Hope suzy feels better soon and gets to a GP.

Was talking to someone about hospital yesterday (she had her baby at same one I'm going to) and she was telling me about ward life and I hadn't even considered this - she said ALL NIGHT babies were crying on the ward and she could get no sleep. In my niave sort of way I thought they just took them away at night and nurses looked after them all for you so the poor tired ladies could get some sleep after going through birth. It seems not, the babies stay with you unless ou say otherwise ( Blush at not realising this) - the thought of being woken up at all hours by my baby is quite hard enough to grasp, let alone a room full of about 15 babies - I will be like a woman posessed as me + no sleep = very angry woman capable very scary rants!!

I'm now the proud owner of a quinny speedi travel system Grin first baby purchase and felt incredibly excited when we got it.

AM going to start wrapping christmas pressies today (must get things done before we move in december) and found in the loft last year I brought over 150 christmas cards in the last of the sales in january (my budget trick is to always get wrapping/cards in the sale the year before) - I don't even send close to that many cards, so I'm all sorted for christmas cards for the next couple of years or so Grin

angels1 · 04/10/2010 09:46

he he just realised 'tears' as in 3rd degree and 'tears' as in crying are spelt the same way - must be some kind of irony there.... Hmm

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 10:08

Ooh, just had a google of that quinny buggy and it looks great! You are organised doing all your Christmas stuff. Mind you, I need to start on mine soon, I do homemade things for all my cousins and this year I am doing mincemeat so I need to get cracking!

Re: staying in hospital- you don't have to stay unless there is a medical reason, I came home the same day as DD was born. Once you have your baby then it's unlikely you'll want it taken away Grin lots of contact helps to establish breastfeeding as well. The post-natal wards are usually only 4 or 6 beds so it shouldn't be too bad but some hospitals have private rooms that you can use if you prefer (think they charge about £100 at my local hospital).

angels1 · 04/10/2010 10:26

eaurouge I made mincemeat for my relitives last year as a christmas gift (and little mini christmas cakes) but was a pricey business - all that dried fruit and brandy cost me a fortune (and supermarket value brandy smells just like paint stripper I discovered Confused ). I think the supermarket thought I was an alcoholic buying all that brandy!! I used a Mary Berry recipe from her christmas cook book which worked v. well if you haven't already got your own fave recipe hunted out (Mary Berry is considered a true legend in my household!!). If you're a bit of a home cook like me, I also made up lots of recipe ideas to make using mincemeat and typed my own mini cookbook to give with the mincemeat and put in lots of piccies of the foods I made - would be happy to give you some ideas if needed (although this was very time consuming...and since you already have DC ....I'm thinking maybe not.... Wink ).

Sorry to hijack thread, just can't help myself on fav subjects all rolled into one (cooking, gift making and christmas)

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 10:38

I have a Mary Berry recipe book, I love her Grin I use my mum's recipe for mincemeat though. I will go to the cash and carry for all the ingredients, much cheaper than the supermarket and I think I have a fair amount of brandy stashed away somewhere Blush

I plan to make some calico shopping bags and fill them with homemade mincemeat, stem ginger biscuits, fudge, DH's homebrew and some seed packets from plants in my garden. Last year I made jam and the year before that they all got a bottle of wine because DD was only 10 weeks old and I couldn't be bothered Grin

angels1 · 04/10/2010 10:45

Yes I've done chocolates, biscuits, christmas cakes, jam, mincemeat, fudge etc before. Sometimes I do sewn gifts too, one year I did a big embroidery for my Granny and got it framed for her :) Earlier this year I had the stupid great idea to home make everyones wedding favours at my wedding, and me being me, everyone had to have an induvidual personalised gift. And I only had less than 3 months to do everything as we had a short engagement. I think I had more stress finishing all the favours than planning the wedding (and never underestimate how long it takes to put everything neatly in a box and doing a perfect ribon Wink ). Still, everyone seemed to like their allsortment of home made gifts.

I was going to do chutney this year but tbh can't manage the smell or thought of making it. Made a few jars of ginger and rhubarb jam earlier this year with all the rhubarb from the garden so might use that for some, but generally have been lazy and just brought everything online Confused .

NeedToSleepZZZ · 04/10/2010 12:00

Wow, EauRouge, that's a lot of work for you. Sounds brilliant though! I'm another Mary Berry fan (mmm, her lemon drizzle cake..) and also love Elizabeth David at christmas.

I've made lots of jam with damsons from the garden so they will be little gifts but wish I were as organised as angels with your wrapping, I may have some cards that I forgot to send last year so already written but that doesn't count really does it? Blush

I woke up this morning and stroked bump to find his/ her head/ bottom sticking out of my stomach (obviously not literally Wink )a little bit or at least I think that's what it was. I had a big round lump near my belly button and it disappeared when I rubbed it. I was a bit Shock at first but it made me laugh afterwards.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well today x

Grannyapple · 04/10/2010 12:19

Hi ladies-just back from scan & all is well. Found out we're having a boy-was totally convinced it was a girl too! Guess we'd better start focusing on boys names now!

Got all emotional on way back to car...think it was the realisation that all totally real now(I know, nearly 5 months in!!). I also thought dh wanted a girl so I think that's also why I got emotional. He's obviously chuffed all is well so that's the main thing.

Quite liking the idea of a boy....I always wanted an older brother when I was young (I'm the oldest & have a sis) so think this'll be lovely if we have more!

Hope everyone is keeping well x.

Bensmum76 · 04/10/2010 13:03

Hi all,
I am a bit of a lurker but am keeping up to date with your chat each day. I had to join in today as I LOVE Christmas and think the idea of making gifts is fantastic!! I love baking so have thought of making biscuits or something and letting my DS decorate them...thanx for the inspiration guys.
Its been lovely to read about all the scans going so well.
I have mine this afternoon so will no doubt post on here again tonight (twice in one day - a record for me). Am very excited especially as we hope to find out the sex.

zerominuszero · 04/10/2010 13:35

angels that's what they did in the olden days (the early/mid eighties anyway, when I was born), they took the baby away so you could have sleep.

Mind you, these were also in the days when you weren't allowed to leave the hospital until you had proven that you were capable of changing a nappy, so I'm not sure that they were right on everything Hmm

angels1 · 04/10/2010 13:52

ah zerominuszero maybe my mum has given me the idea that babies get wheeled away at night in hospital so that's why I assumed. Funny though, my sister was born in early 1990's and I'm sure she was taken away at night too for my mum to sleep as I remember mum being really upset the nurses had fed her bottle milk in the night when mum would have been happy to breast feed in the night... Hmm . And being able to change a nappy before you go home does actually sound quite logical to me...it would be hard to cope with a newborn if you couldn't! But how hard can changing a nappy be (looks around waiting to be clobbered as there's probably some special nack or problem I know nothing about with this issue) ?!

bensmum let us know how scan goes :)

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 13:57

angels, my DH was pretty horrified that I wanted to go home before we had been taught how to change a nappy and give DD a bath- I told him that if we got stuck we'd just look on youtube Grin. You are right, nappies now are a piece of cake, you really don't need to be shown how to do it. You'll need to buy some to put in your hospital bag anyway so just take a look and it'll be clear how you do it.

Grannyapple, glad to hear the scan went well and congrats on having a boy!

Trojan1970 · 04/10/2010 14:12

Hello ladies - hope you are all well?

Just wanted to let you know I had my scan today. All is well with baby, and it's a boy. Smile Already have DS1 so that means the baby shopping will be minimal. My date has also been changed to 18 Feb. prof can you do the honours with the stats please? Thanks.

I am slightly in awe of all this talk of home made Xmas pressies! We've had a frugal few years and suggested to brothers/sisters/close friends that we could/should only buy for the children which went down better than expected so our Xmas list has been dramatically reduced.

Anyway, I'm at work so best crack on.

angels1 · 04/10/2010 14:29

Just spotted these lovely mugs and thought I'd post them up here incase anyone else covets them as much as me to put them on the christmas wish list :)

Great scan news Grin

Deliaskis · 04/10/2010 16:03

Hi ladies,

I have my scan tomorrow so am excited but nervous all over again like last time. We had decided we were not going to find out the sex but I am having serious second thoughts, only in the same way I also want to unwrap my Christmas presents before Christmas kind of way though, I think deep down I really want to wait, I'm just desparate to know at the same time!

Halfway now though, I am likely to be pregnant for less time than I have already been pregnant, feels weird! Does anyone else feel like this seems to be the time we start thinking about the actual baby rather than the pregnancy? In some ways, although I know the logical end to what is happening right now, I have been focussing mainly on the pregnancy, and suddenly it seems unreal to think that in less than 5 months I will have a baby that will be with me almost 24/7 for quite a while!

OK, yes I am a bit of a freak for only just thinking about this, I mean I have always obviously been aware of it, but I think in a more abstract way. It's real now!

Yes I am slightly nuts... Blush

Grannyapple · 04/10/2010 17:22

deliaskis totally with you on the sudden realisation that a wee person will be with us soon! That's why I got all emotional earlier!!Smile

knittakid · 04/10/2010 17:55

me too deliaskis, and when that realization has come to me in short but clear moments, I feel myself panicking a bit. I've been with DH 10 years and married for 7 this december, so the idea of suddely our lives changing so dramatically, with somebody there that has come out of both of us is just weird... sorry, I know I'm inmature and this is actually the most natural thing in the world, just didn't expect it ever to happen to me.

oh angels love your present ideas! I shall be making mincepies this christmas again, but never thought of making the mince myself... how does it compare to shop-bought one?

Sorry to really go on about this, but I'm soo excited at having the scan on Wed!!! so hope everything is alright... now my mum also dreamt that it's a boy, so I'm pretty convinced...Smile

wigglesrock · 04/10/2010 18:19

knittakid I was the same with dd1, I had been married for 7 years and was just starting to contemplate seeing GP re fertility when lo and behold, and now 5.5 years later I'm about to have my third!!!

I have complete envy Envy for anyone who homemakes anything never mind Christmas gifts. I love Christmas but I think I'm being creative when I spend more than 30 mins choosing Boots 3 for 2 Blush

Bensmum76 · 04/10/2010 18:32

Hi all
Had scan, all is well, and we are having another boy!! We're both really pleased! I thought I'd want a girl and would be disappointed if it was a boy but am so relieved that I am chuffed to bits.
