The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:

my dh says he checked with traffic cops at work and they say not illegal for baby in front but safer in back due to possible injury from damaged windscreen in event of an accident.I will be putting mine in back as i find it distracting in the front and cant see point of disabling air bags as they are there for safety. Saying that tho i have a golf and there are air bags everywhere.
I have just done the Davina pg workout its quite nice actually. It occurred to me that its the first time in my life i have ever looked like the person on an excercise dvd :o
It was nice to see she had a big bum too and couldnt do some of the excercises due to spd.
Having a lazy day today as yesterday people kept on coming and dd had two friends to play.I just cannot seem to rest tho, we are in process of moving dd into another room and there seems to be something to do constantly.

40Weeks · 03/10/2010 10:38

angles of course when I said 'yourself' I meant DH!

janedoe25 · 03/10/2010 11:46

Hope all you ladies are having a fab weekend. My Fiance treated me to a night out in Edinburgh to see Frankie Boyle and some dinner, we even managesd to fit in some baby shopping! I have my scan on tuesday i cat wait to buy baby its first little blue/pink outfit!

Zero the tommee tippee sterilser should be fine if u plan on mostly breastfeeding, i had one for my baby mindee. It fits in 4 of the wide neck bottles.

I am off to have a relaxing sunday with my man.

knittakid · 03/10/2010 11:50

Hello all, sorry cannot join the car seat debate.

ledkr what a bitch! why are some people like that? I'd been jealous even though I am not normally, but hey, as somebody else said, YOU are having his baby...

I went yesterday afternoon in teh glorious sun to the allotment and managed to plant some winter onions and garlic, and felt horribly pleased with myself all day. I was elated, so I don't know why i kept on having this nightmares in the night where absolutely horrible things were happening to the baby and me, accidents involving sharp sticks and things like that, was very distubing.
I have also been having his attacks of fear of tearing during birth, just the sound of a second degree tear makes me cringe and cross my legs tightly so the baby does not have any chance of comming out, ever!

Sorry about long post abouut horrible things, but perhaps somebody can reassure me that it is not that bad/necessary/innevitable?

NeedToSleepZZZ · 03/10/2010 12:15

Afternoon ladies,
Hope you're all well on this grey and miserable day.

janedoe25 very jealous of you getting to see Frankie Boyle, I love him! Although with the amount of muscle pain I'm getting at the moment when I sneeze/ cough or laugh it's probably a good thing for me to hold off seeing him for a bit. Think he's coming down this way at the end of the year. I also have my scan on Tuesday, feel so nervous and excited, can't wait!

angels not sure about the car seat thing, I know everyone says you must never use a second hand one but part of me thinks well, maybe that's perpetuated by the car seat makers (but then I'm a complete cynic sometimes). Better safe than sorry though!

I really don't know what could happen to a car seat in a crash that would render it dangerous but I'm open to being corrected Grin

ledkr I'm very impressed at your exercising, I only manage yoga and walking. Must have a look at the Davina dvd, just the cover, to see if she really had a big bum!

EauRouge · 03/10/2010 12:53

knittakid, I had a second degree tear and I didn't know it until they said I couldn't go home yet because I needed stitches Grin it was fine really, it stung but at that point I was concentrating so much on rounding up my last dregs of energy so I could push that I didn't think I'd torn at all.

I don't think it's inevitable, just try doing the perineal massage thing and make sure you go slowly when the baby's crowning- I didn't because I got overexcited that it was almost over Grin

knittakid · 03/10/2010 13:39

earrouge it's got to be difficult to go slowly, otherwise why would people not do it, what are you going to do this time to try and go slowly? I know they say that that area goes a bit numb from the pressure of crowning, so you really don't feel it, but it's the idea of it that terrifyes me...

EauRouge · 03/10/2010 13:41

Yeah, the idea is pretty horrible but the reality isn't bad at all. This time I'm going for a home waterbirth so hopefully I'll be more relaxed and have a shorter labour. I did learn a load of breathing exercises to do when the baby crowns but it all went out the window when I realise I was almost done.

zerominuszero · 03/10/2010 14:43

Good news for anyone who read about the MIL steriliser story. We bought a larger bottle today and it fitted right in, so it turns out that all that slagging off of the present was completely pointless... but at least we can keep it now and tell MIL that it will be really useful.

Oh well. All this talk of second degree tears is very Shock

ledkr · 03/10/2010 15:17

zero thats a relief. My pil havent offered anything towards the baby yet(obviously apart from the relic pram)I am quite surprised-and but annoyed tbh- as its their first and they are well off.I know its a bit early but we dont see them much and it would be nice to have an idea as i could add it to my budget. God i sound realy grabby dont i?
I gave my son and his gf a lunp sum to buy stuff but i did tell them in advance so they could plan.
I have just posted on thread where a woman was upset cos dh hasnt been home all night from a stag do and had slept on female friends sofa. All the self righteous woman are on there telling her she is insecure etc.I stuck up for her am probably on fire as we speak :o

geekygiraffe · 03/10/2010 16:18

hello all
a whingy post, I'm afraid - my "tailbone" REALLY hurts! think is the weight of the bump, but any tips for how to make it feel better appreciated. My bum hurts too - just how low down is this Baby!?

knittakid · 03/10/2010 16:27

Do you learn breathing excercises at the antenatal lessons or somewhere else? sorry about the Shock and Confused conversation...

ledkr obviously bad, the only way I could think it could be excusable is if he could not drive, but then there are cabs, aren't there? oh well, it would also depend on who the female friend was... Wink
My DH had his stag night after the wedding and the honeymoon... so I am not the best to advice on aceptable stag behaviour.

zerominuszero · 03/10/2010 16:33

ledkr that is strange if it's their first DGC - my parents and PIL have all offered to buy stuff, including a pram and a cot which will be a massive help to us. Maybe they're waiting till Christmas...?

geekygriraffe do you have a DP who is competent enough to massage you? Mine does me sometimes and it helps a bit, and I have a lot of pain in the same places as you.

wigglesrock · 03/10/2010 16:42

knittakid I did breathing exercises at antenatal classes with dd1, they were good but not as good as the drugs Wink

angels I think 2nd hand carseats aren't recommended incase they've been damaged and you can't see the damage they then lose some of their protection if in an accident. I know when we had accident, with my dds in the car, the paramedics told me and my mum several times to get rid of carseats. The hospital also told us, as did the police at the scene and our insurance company also double checked to make sure we were claiming for them. To be reassuring we were hit several times by articulated lorry and my 2 carseats never moved and both girls didn't have a scratch on them.

Oh I had tear and stitches with dd2, much less aaggh than I had thought!!

suzym1984 · 03/10/2010 18:10

Hi everyone,

Back from my shopping trip and feel really rough! Wonder if anyone can offer some advice? I know that needing to wee is a common prob in pregnancy, but today it has been literally every 20 minutes! The urge is quite painful and it hurts low down in my bladder if u see what i mean? No actual sting when i wee tho. Does this sound normal?

I also feel quite dizzy/ head achey/ and drained today Sad

Sorry for such a depressing post but just a little worried

EauRouge · 03/10/2010 18:19

knitta, I did hypnobirthing, the breathing exercises were easy to learn but I found it hard to concentrate and remember everything when I was in labour. That might be because I hadn't slept in 2 days though.

wigglesrock · 03/10/2010 18:21

Suzy Are you sure you not absolutely exhausted and maybe hungry. Any time I do something on top of what I usually do, even if it's extra shopping or taking girls swimming I am a mess, I really pay for it, vomiting comes back, bit dizzy, drained is a good word for it.

I am also all of a sudden feeling need to wee a lot now, and urge can be quite urgent!! If you don't feel well in the morning ring midwife or GP, take it easy.

suzym1984 · 03/10/2010 18:25

Thanks wiggle for the reply
well i had to come home 20 mins into my shopping trip as I felt so bad, so not sure that could have exhausted me. But then again who knows!

Maybe it is normal then, I just that every 20mins seems a bit excessive? And I am getting lower bladder type pain after a wee, but no stinging, wierd! I have just googled UTI in pregnancy and have scared myself that it can harm the baby!

I think I will ring the GP in the morning and see if they will give me an after work appt (altho they are like gold dust!)

ledkr · 03/10/2010 18:36

suzy i am in the midst of my 2nd uti this pg. Does your bladder kind of throb after you wee?I just rang my gps who have acall back service and they gave me anti biotic script to collect but i had to drop a sample in.Will yours do that? I have to admit i am feeling pretty tired today too,am debating a sicky tomorrow but i have so much to do. I meant to have a restfull weekend but i donmt feel like ive stopped and dh has worked all weekend so been on my own.
zero yes i thought it was strange too.If they are waiting for xmas it seems ridiculous. I will be having a c section in last week of Jan and have ahistory of prem births so i intend to have everything ready by then.I will be a bit put out if they dont but it will make me feel less guilty about not providing b and b for lomger than one night post birth.

ledkr · 03/10/2010 18:39

oh yes i must say the Davina workout is quite usefull as it does allow for spd and encourages pelvic floor and abdo exercise. I felt great afterwards but maybe i shouldnt have gone swimming too as i feel abit tired now and dh is sulking cos arsenal lost to Chelsea.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 03/10/2010 18:45

Second degree tear isn't bad at all -- it's those third/fourth degree tears you want to have nightmares about...

It's not always about speed, either. DD haad her arm up by her face and that was what did it for me. But really and truly, the stitches and aftermath weren't anywhere near as bad as the afterpains (if this is your first, though, you may not have any afterpains to speak of as they get worse with each child

wigglesrock · 03/10/2010 18:55

I know Prof I didn't realise afterpains got worse, until the ever helpful sonographer mentioned to me that they may be quite bad with it being my 3rd Shock

Also panicked myself today, was vaguely contemplating Christmas in a kind of abstract way and thought oh might get inlaws to get me some smellies for Christmas and can use them in hospital, I then thought oh but that means I can't use them for ages, I then realised that I am due about 7 weeks after Christmas!!!!!!!!!!! Thought I had an extra month or two! Confused

EauRouge · 03/10/2010 19:34

The afterpains get worse?!

suzym1984 · 03/10/2010 20:00

ledkr YES!!! It does kind of throb, thats exactly it! Dont know what my GP will offer, will ring them in the morning. I am considering a sicky too as I feel so out of sorts, but worried about my sick record being terrible this pregnancy Sad

wigglesrock · 03/10/2010 20:14

suzy if it helps any time taken off during pregnancy can't be recorded as sick leave for any disciplinary/absence record. To be sure just make sure you get it recorded as pregnancy related. Good luck with GP
