The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tadjennyp · 02/10/2010 18:27

I'll go that then. Bit fed up of saying I can't do stuff because of baby - that's carrying them about, mind! They are quite heavy. Grin

ledkr · 02/10/2010 18:36

wiggles i thought you would respond GrinWe must start that copper thread. Not sure what your force is like but ours is shall we say a little incestuous!I hear all the stories about the parties etc. Dh doesnt socialise with them really but there do seem to be some loose morals. I am not usually jealous but i think she should have spoke to me if she was going to kiss my dh.He is home now i am going to broach the subject later ill let you know.Oh well it makes a change from worrying about scans/spd.

tadjennyp · 02/10/2010 18:37

You're welcome

jackinthebump · 02/10/2010 18:50

ledkr - I am a particularly jealous person so it would have really really annoyed me, but then my DH also knows I'd have got the major arse on with something like that and would have insisted on introducing me before I planned to beat the crap out of her! Blush Not that I am a violent person you understand but I stew on things like that forever!

She was particularly rude and sounds quite desperate to behave like that in the first place!

wigglesrock · 02/10/2010 18:57

Ledkr Apparently what happens at work stays at work!! or my personal favourite it doesn't count if it happens with another officer!! If that's the case I'm off to find a job filled with yummy young barmen preferably Spanish Grin DH doesn't socialise a lot with work either, he feels too old!!.

If anyone feels like it, can you give me a bit of info re low lying placenta, apparently I have one and couldn't be arsed posting in Pregnancy!! So lazy!!

ledkr · 02/10/2010 19:23

jack you sound like me haha. Just spoke to him and he understands totally and said he hardly really knows her and thinks it drink, feel better now.wriggles i always have that. It usually goes up as you grow it doesnt sound like placenta praevia so shouldnt mean a c section. It can casue abit of bleeding too. Quite common i think.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/10/2010 22:38

Agree with ledkr -- placentas tend to move up as you go on, so assuming you don't have a very premature baby a low-lying placenta at this stage is unlikely to be an issue (although they will keep an eye on it, which basically means an extra scan later on).

wigglesrock · 02/10/2010 22:44

Thank you both, someone else posted in Pregnancy re same thing, obviously much less lazy than me Blush

Morning everyone

Up with the lark this morning, I hate these dark morning. I thought it was about 3am but it was in fact 6.30 and time to get up, according to the kids Shock

Bump not that big yet and still wake up to find I have been sleeping on my back. Is that really bad? Am 19 weeks and thought surely I will know when to stop as it would be too uncomfortable?

angels1 · 03/10/2010 08:44

morning ladies

ledkr I would have been tempted to stick my hand at her to shake and introduce myself whilst being ignored (but not sure if I have the assertiveness to do it). Seems a bit rude. I would say maybe she was a bit shy so felt embarassed/awkward about introducing herself to you if she didn't know you and expected your DH to introduce, but then a kiss like that doesn't make me think she's shy Hmm

I'm unsure about flu jab too. I asked my GP when I was pg last dec (b4 having a mc) about flu jab and she said she had to advise me to take it as a Doc but she was also pg at the time and said she wasn't having it due to 'potential risks'. Hmmmm. So undecided here. I also remember when I had my mc I got specifically asked if I'd had the flu jab beforehand as if they were trying to establish a link bet the 2, but presume given all pg women are suppose to now be offered it they didn't find a link.

Just over a week till scan...argh it's taking so long to come! Had a dream last night I'm having a girl (when I've been thinking so far it's a boy). so we shall see if my concious thoughts or dreams are correct next week!

angels1 · 03/10/2010 08:52

oh btw forgot to ask - what are your thoughts on buying a second hand car seat? Found one in local paper this week which is just the one we want (if we get the quinny it clicks in to it) and obv much cheaper than new, but MIL looked shocked we were considering this and said she woudl NEVER buy one second hand incase it had been in an accident beforehand (and even if they said it hadn't, since we don't know them we can't trust them). So now not sure if I will have to get one new - any thoughts?

While on subj of car seats - simply could not believe that the isofix base to go with the seat is sold seperately than the seat and costs £80 (yes, you did read correctly!!!) just for the
base - oh my, I think my bottom lip actually dropped when I discovered this. Confused and we do specifically want a car seat clip base to help save my back from excess twisting in a small 3 door car.

40Weeks · 03/10/2010 09:00

Oh just typed you a loong reply and then deleted it!

Basically said, would always go for new with car seat although in reality probably is fine and hasnt been in car crash)
Also that you dont HAVE to use the isofix base if you dont want to buy it (car seat can be used without it) and also that baby could go in front seat if you get airbag disabled to save your back Smile

angels1 · 03/10/2010 09:04

40weeks had thought about disabling front air bags to save my back - wasn't sure if it was straight forward/easy to do (but was planning on asking when getting an MOT in december). Also wasn't sure what the pros and cons were to having baby in back or next to you in a car....?

PinkElephant73 · 03/10/2010 09:15

EauRouge and others re flu jabs:

My work has offered seasonal flu vaccine to all staff but has advised pg women should not take it. NHS advice seems to be the opposite though.

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pandemic-flu/Pages/Adviceforpregnantwomen.aspx

My MW said at my booking appt (June) that I shold have a swine flu jab and she would contact me about dates but I have heard nothing from her. I thought the swine flu epidemic was over anyway?

angels1 · 03/10/2010 09:18

pinkelephant my work is the same - we get offered flu jab every year there and I asked if I could have this this year being pg and was told not by them and if I wanted it I had to discuss with GP.

40Weeks · 03/10/2010 09:25

angles have a look in your handbook as you should be able to disable it yourself although always worth getting the garage to check, very wise.

I think having baby next to you when its just you and baby is a good idea as you can see what they are doing and also pull over and soothe them easily if you need to. If they do go in the back you can get a mirror that attached to head reast which I liked because I could see if they had fallen asleep or not. Worth trying both ways but if you have a bad back then next to you will be much better for you

suzym1984 · 03/10/2010 09:30

Hi Ladies!

Well I have had another weekend of buying things....oops! Bought our baby bedding, which is soo cute and will look gorgeous on our new primrose colour nursery! We also bought some cute baby vests with jungle animals on them to continue the theme!

Dont know if everyone already knows this but Asda is having another baby and toddler event starting on Tuesday. I plan to buy the Tomme Tippee electric breast pump for £40 which seems like a bargain, and also the bottles and steriliser, I LOVE a bargain!!

Does anyone have any opinions/ knowledge about sterilisers??

Angels I dont think I would buy the 2nd hand car seat, as if it had prev been in a crash then it might not be as safe. Also, Im sure i heard somewhere that it is safer for babies to be in the back of the car, due to impact. Not sure where i heard that tho, so feel free to ignore me! Maybe wait for January sales and see if u can get the seat/ base for cheap? Let us know what model u are fancying and im sure we will all keep our eyes peeled!

Re the flu jab, I hadnt even considered it to be honest and didnt know pregnant women were advised to get it. I prob wouldnt, just in case there is a risk to the baby. But I might do some more research and ask DH who knows more than I do!

Have a lovely day ladies, I am off to IKEA today to see what nursery furniture they have to offer!

40Weeks · 03/10/2010 09:34

Oooh have fun SuzyM, guaranteed you will also purchase mini dime bars!!

suzym1984 · 03/10/2010 09:34

40weeks just seen your post and I am also sleeping on my back sometimes. Try not to worry, as we cant help what position we get into when we are asleep, and Im sure if it was bad then the pain would wake us up.

suzym1984 · 03/10/2010 09:35

haha i didnt see that post about IKEA! I wont be getting dime bars as I have a nut allergy...booooooooooo! Im sure I will buy a load of crap tho, as i always do at ikea Grin

EauRouge · 03/10/2010 09:35

I have an isofix base for my little maxi cosi seat, wouldn't be without it. We tried to get by without at first but after doing my back in and having a massive hormonal new-mum cry DH went and got one. And that was in a 5 door car, I would defo get one for a 3 door car, it's so bloody fiddly trying to get the seatbelt through every time. That might just be me though, I get frustrated with things like that.

Suzy- we had a steam microwave steriliser which was really easy to use (and cheap) but I only used it a couple of times because it was so much easier to just breastfeed rather than express Grin Most of my parenting decisions are based on how lazy I am Blush

40Weeks · 03/10/2010 09:37

Angles have a look at this

www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/index.htm#under3

It says illegal for front seat (although this amazes me as what if you have a smart car or other two seater???) and also have friends who put baby in front seat as they had a 3 door, but got airbag disabled. Confused

40Weeks · 03/10/2010 09:38

www.childcarseats.org.uk/types/index.htm

OK also on same website says babies can go in front or back - how confusing - as long as no airbag in front (or disabled)

angels1 · 03/10/2010 10:13

thanks for car seat advice. Think I'll still aim for isofix as eaurouge says it'll be much easier, but might get air bags disabled in front to give me front/back options ( 40weeks disable them myself by looking in a car handbook - I can't even check tyre pressure and oil myself, I need DH/garage to do EVERYTHING for me!). We're hoping to get s maxi cosi car seat so will prob buy it new in light of what you've said (if you see one on offer - let me know Wink ). Glad MIL said it now as I had no idea or even thought about it being in accidents so less safe Confused

Whenever I go to Ikea I come home with massive packs of napkins and chocolate Wink
