The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SlaughteredSheep · 14/10/2010 14:53

Ah, yes impulse and So? Reminds me of the good old days of High School!

I've never stolen my mum's clothes or my sisters as they've never been a similar size to me. I keep wondering whether one day DD will steal mine.

SlaughteredSheep · 14/10/2010 14:55

She certainly has her eye on my shoes and make up at the grand old age of 3.

knittakid · 14/10/2010 15:07

ledkr I hope everything gets sorted! how anoying to have to deal with an idiot like that!

angles i think as somebody already said, take somebody with you next time, you'll feel much better, even if it is just ranting afterwards (no but seriously, what happened sounds completely out of order).

Lynx!!! no!!!! when I was little my dad would chase me in the morning with his aftershave on his hands... I would run and run and run, and I still hate the stuff. At school I told my tutor group last year (who started putting that stuff in the classroom) that I was asthmatic and could die right in front of them if they did it again... (absolute lie, just can't stand the smell of anything in spray)Grin I also told them that I might be a lesbian, so if anybody used the word gay offensively I would be very very angry... Sometimes it's so nice to lie to little children Smile

zerominuszero · 14/10/2010 16:19

Er... Why does everyone think the lynx stage is worse than the 'started to sweat but still not discovered deodorant' phase???

ledkr · 14/10/2010 16:30

Worse still zero is the started to sweat and discovered lynx but not the shower phase!
Equal first too is the clean and deoderised 2x daily stage but room smells of b.o. old food socks and testosterone. I used to say to mine-and i had 3 of the buggers-"you smell of your room"made no difference tho.

This poor dd will not be interested in her old mothers shoes. Ill be in hush puppies by the time she is same size ha.

Headache today its horrible.

DD has just ran out of the room shouting"i hate you" cos i told her she couldnt go upstairs untill the plasterer had cleared up. Rational eh?

zerominuszero · 14/10/2010 16:44

Ah yes. The "we just had PE but didn't have showers, miss" phase of course is a fun one.

SlaughteredSheep · 14/10/2010 16:50

I'm only a size 4 in shoes. DD will probably be still in primary school when she's a size 4, if she's anything like her Dad.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 14/10/2010 17:13

Just had a really horrible sensation as I was up at my mum's feeding her cats (she's on holiday lucky thing). I got out of the car and felt like someone was stabbing me hard between the top of my ribs, I couldn't breathe in as it hurt so much. I've never had that before, definitely not indigestion feeling iykwim. It only lasted about 40 seconds but not sure what it was. Is it where things are being pushed upwards (had an achey pain under my left rib last night but nowhere near like pain just now) or could it be muscles separating? I'm off to my singing group tonight and don't want that to happen again!

zero I think the reason the lynx phase is a tiny bit worse is because with b.o. it's a localised smell whereas boys tend to spray lynx everywhere (including over t-shirts that smell of b.o.). I remember smelling it downstairs when my brother was getting ready to leave the house Confused

I went through the Body Shop dewberry or Exclamation! phase though and must have stunk, yuk!

knittakid love the lies you tell your class, I used to tell mine loads- it's fun to have power, mwha ha ha ha!! Grin

ledkr · 14/10/2010 17:25

need to sleep are you big yet and carrying high up? It very common to have rib pain if thats the case. Try stretching your arm up and over your head and hold it for abit.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 14/10/2010 17:48

thank you ledkr, will try that. I do yoga each morning but I don't feel very flexible now! I thought I was carrying quite low as most of my kicks are down low but when the consultant measured my fundal height last week it was up past my belly button by a couple of inches.

angels1 · 14/10/2010 17:59

needtosleep I've read ribs stretch out during pg to accomodate baby growing - not sure if it might be that? Hope it's OK now though.

ledkr · 14/10/2010 18:56

yes i thought i was low but am getting proper kicks way above my naval. She can kick hard enough for dh and dd to feel now which is really lovely, slthough she kicked dh in bed last night when we were cuddling which put a stop to my evil plans haha
I am aslo getting breathlessness especially when i talk which is quite often

MummyGeorgie · 14/10/2010 22:23

zero all that talk of body sprays is bringing back amusing school memories.

Impulse Vanilla Kisses and Charlie are the two that stick with me as well as clear mascara and body shop lip balm.

I'm a little miffed that I don't seem to have had the fundal height measured yet... is that just me?

Had 20 week scan today though which was great.... she a right little mover and groover :)

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 06:30

Congratulations on your scan mummygeorgie I'm not sure if they've measured my fundal height either but I may just be being forgetful.

My baby has had a growth spurt. I felt very big last night so naughtily measured myself (well, the name of the week did begin with T) and I'm currently 9, up half a sheet from Tuesday. I feel much bigger than I did just a few days ago! Also, I think I need bigger pants because I'm getting quite severe marks around my waist from mine. Oh dear :(

angels1 · 15/10/2010 07:39

Morning Ladies,

MIL came over last night to deliver some baby bits she's got second hand for us from someone she knows. We are now the proud owners of a mclaren buggy, high chair, various cot sheet type bits, a nappy bin (unnececessary if you ask me but hey ho) and a travel cot, so feels like we're getting organised :)

Only thing that drove me a bit mad was MIL made a big deal about how she had washed everything (material wise) ready for us but she uses a horrible smelling washing powder that I hate the pong of and reminds me of cat pee. I have no idea what brand it is but their house always smells of it and I wondered for months after first visiting what this disguisting smell was and why it hadn't been cleaned away - turns out it was the washing powder! lol. So the factI hate the smell AND I know it's biological powder (and I'm a bio hater in that I've got really sensitive skin and would never use bio powder for my own skin let alone that of a new born as my skin reacts to it) means I'm just going to have to wash everything all over again. I've asked DH to tell her not to bother washing things for this reason (I'm too chicken) but he won't, so I'll just have to re-wash everything which seems a complete waste of time! DH says it's just me being fussy about new borns not having bio powder used when washing but this is a fact, isn't it?? (pleas for someone to agree so I know I'm not the only one on this emoticon).

On another note, I had a general wondering last night - is the length of your pregnancy related to your usual cycle length? ie those with long cycles = longer pg, short cycles = shorter pg. Tried looking online but couldn't find anything. It sort of makes sense to me that this would be the case but no idea. I hope it is as my cycle is about 26 days, which would mean a few days shorter pg!

I got my fundal height measured for the first time with mw this week mummygeordie and yes, I remember clear mascara and body shop lip gloss too Wink . Were you of the time where school shoes just had to be kickers or was that just my school? I also remember the days of putting sun in in my hair and reading mizz and just seventeen [ahh, the memories!].

Hope all feeling OK this morning - nearly week end Grin

byronicheroine · 15/10/2010 07:50

Happy Friday everyone! I'm clearly far too excited by the fact that 1) duh, it's Friday and 2) going for Indian food tonight - yum (Indian in Athens is few, far between and expensive - getting dressed up to go for a curry, anyone?!)
angels Yes, you are right - babies should have NON BIO, I remember as my sister is only 12 (I'm 30!) and I helped my mum out a lot, but I'm sure Fountain of all knowledge AKA prof will back us up on this. Wash it all again, and insist that, IF she wants to wash things (heart in right place and all - even if she is MIL) that she uses non-bio.
We've been offered things in a vague, but very kind, way and I'd really like to know what, so that I can plan a little. From DP cousin (Greek and I don't know her very well) and his workmate (English with Russian girlfriend who I have never met). How to broach the subject delicately? "Gimme that stuff, then"?

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 08:15

angels I'm not an expert but I would be amazed if cycle length had any connection with length of hertaution, sorry. Or rather I HOPE not as my cycle is about 40 days which would mean my babys never going to come out!

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 08:47

Gestation that was supposed to say. Bloody phones

americanexpat · 15/10/2010 08:55

I had my 24 week appt yesterday and the midwife measured my fundal height for the first time. I've only seen the CM once before at 16 weeks, so aside from scans, I've not had much hands-on care, but I think this is normal?

byronic - one of DH's work colleagues has offered us some baby stuff but no details on what it includes. It feels a little greedy to ask what it is but I want to start budgeting for what we need to buy.

angels - I think that may have been true before they used dating scans. Longer cycles = late ovulation = longer pregnancy from date of LMP. It seems like there will have been a study to confirm/deny it now and I'm sure the Prof will be along shortly with citations. Grin

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 15/10/2010 09:03

I think that's pre-scan days, angels, when everything was worked out from LMP date and your EDD was set in stone that way. If you have a longer cycle then you probably ovulate later than average in your cycle, so an EDD worked out from LMP date is likely to be too early, so when you do give birth it looks as though the baby is "late" and you had a "longer gestation". Equally if you have a shorter cycle then you probably ovulate earlier than average in your cycle, so an EDD worked out from LMP date is likely to be too late, so when you do give birth it looks as though the baby is "early" and you had a "shorter gestation".

Now that everyone has routine dating scans we should all end up with more accurate EDDs and so the length of your cycle shouldn't affect how "early" or "late" your baby is.

For example zero has a long cycle and was originally given a February due date, then a scan (IIRC) moved it to early March. In pre-scan days she'd just have been stuck with the February due date and then when the baby appeared in early March everyone would have said "Oooh, yes, very late baby" when it was actually nothing of the kind.

byronicheroine · 15/10/2010 09:37

expat exactly! Where do we go from here? I was hoping to meet them at a BBQ last weekend, but it didn't happen. Now I'm left wondering wanting to go shopping...

Anyway, I have an average cycle so no surprises I think... it seems to depend on a lot of things the 'other end' (due date). there was an article in the guardian about very late babies that my mum sent me - not sure why!!- but it was quite interesting. basically saying that the due date is a bit more flexible than we think. Personally, i think i'll be so fed up of being pregnant by then I'll just want it out... on the other hand, then we would get more wear out of the maternity clothes [believes that I will spring back into my 'normal' clothes emoticon]

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 09:41

morning lovley mummies

How is everyone today? I am feeling much better than earlier this week as had scan yesterday and everything was FINE! Thanks goodness. Kept the sex a surprise (well the babies, sex anyway Wink ) which was soooo hard but hubby convinced me altough sonographer said with two boys already I have a 75% of another boy. Not sure what this is based on or why as its not the same for girls apparently Confused

Sorry ledkr about your horrid boss - I hope you get it sorted out and angels what a USELESS doctor you saw, idiot. I would ring back and ask for another appt with a different doc and let them know that he was rubbish (sorry if this has already been suggested)

MummyGeordie - clear mascara - hahahahaha. I remember using it on my unruly eyebrows also to keep them in line! That was before the I had learned the joys of threading! And Charlie - god that stuff used to make me gag. Still used it though Wink

Hope everyone else is okay and looking forward to the weekend. Head massage tomorrow. Much needed, been in agony this week with stomach cramps but now its gone am wondering if it was anxiety over looming scan, or maybe just growing pains as 'bump' has now appeared good and proper!?!?

angels1 · 15/10/2010 09:53

thanks for clearing that up in such an expert manner prof . My EDD has never changed a single day after my scans - so I must be very 'average' in my cycle I suppose! I wonder what they did with EDD in the pre-scan days when someone had really irregular periods with little idea of how far along they were in pg Hmm

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 10:10

Hmm its interesting about EDD etc - I was wondering why they moved my EDD date (albeit by only 3 days) but I know for sure when baby was conceived - but they go by measurements, even though ALL babies cant possibly be the same size at the same stage in pregnancy, otherwise they would all be born the same weight, no??

Unless its only later in pg that their weight starts to vary??

americanexpat · 15/10/2010 11:13

40Weeks - the woman doing my 12 week scan said that at that stage, nearly all babies follow the same development schedule, it's not until later (after 14 weeks, I think) that they vary. They moved my EDD +5 days and physically impossible for me to have gotten pregnant at that point - and I was charting so I know when I ovulated. I'm not convinced it was measured accurately and am worried about being pressured for an induction based on an inaccurate EDD.

I also read somewhere that male babies tend to grow faster in the first trimester, which fits with my experience. Anyone else find this is true?

byronic - I'm going to let DH handle it, haha. :) Though that will probably end in him not doing anything and buying everything new.
