The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
40Weeks · 15/10/2010 11:33

Thanks american I suppose that makes sense, although like you I am adamant my dates are correct (as I cant have got pregnant before I actually did, impossible!!! I can understand if they make it a bit later as maybe the egg doesnt get fertilized right away, but still) Am also adamant I wont be pressured into an induction. But hoping as this is number 3 it will behave itself. It was certainly very co-operative at the scan yesterday! Although saying that DS1 & 2 were both klate (2 and 1 weeks respectively) Was induced first time round Biscuit and yes they were both big, 9lb+!

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 11:49

Yes excellent info prof, how do you do it?

40 weeks I've never heard of that stat before it sounds a bit made up to me although you'd have thought a soongrapher might be at least a little reliable, so who knows. My dh was one of many boys and mil reckons that she "knew" they would all be boys and never expected any girls Hmm

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 12:05

Yes thats what my friend said Zero (that its made up) I dont know if she (sonographer) meant it simply as, 75% of women who have 2 boys go on to have another one (so its just the odds) or if there is any science behind it. Supposedly the pH level of a woman can certainly influence the outcome as apparently male sperm likes an alkaline environment and female likes acidity, so maybe its based around that. And if you're neutral you just get whoever gets there first!

That said, I am just glad baby is healthy - I will be delighted with whatever the outcome. A girl will be a noveltly (none on my side of the family for approx 14 years!) and I would also love to be mummy to 3 boys. So its win win!! Have always felt this is a boy, as I did with last one.

It was so cute, you could see baby having a drink and the little mouth opening and closing Smile

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 12:14

From what I can find on tinternet it would seem its an old wives tale (or laset based on old science that has since been rubbished)

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 12:49

Fair enough although the acid alkaline aspect would make sense... Although I've read that having an acid/alkaline downstairs will only really shift your chances by a percent or two, not by a lot.

Is anyone else out there who doesn't know the sex yet going to admit to having a preference? I know you're supposed to say that you don't mind but right now I an secretly really hoping for a girl, although I can't explain why. Anyway.

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 12:54

I would love a girl but really only to satisfy my Mum's urge to buy dresses and because I would love to put a pair of those lovely ugg-type boots on her when she was a toddler - not because I am desperate for a girl.

In the long run, a boy would be much easier as I a) I love the blue nursery as it is b) He could play happily in the mud with his big brothers/cousins c) We would all do stuff as a family rather than DH taking the boys to 'football' (or whatever) while I take DD to 'ballet' (or whatever) and d) DH can take them all to Diggerland or some such place while I stay at home and take a much needed rest/go shopping/be a lady wot lunches Grin

So as I said, win win.

Sorry not to be more controversial.....and people do say that a girl will be your daughter for life, but a boys leaves his mother when he takes a wife (or some such rhyme)

NeedToSleepZZZ · 15/10/2010 13:24

Congratulations mummygeorgie and 40weeks on your scan news Smile

I think those of you opting for surprises have amazing willpower! There's no way I could have waited. I suppose it's okay to admit that I secretly wanted a boy now that I know isn't it? Well, I did before I fell pregnant and for the first few weeks that I knew but before the first scan I changed my mind and, hand on heart, really didn't care. At my 20 week scan I almost forgot we were going to find out as I was just so anxious that all was well. My OH wanted a girl, a lot and was a bit surprised that we're having a boy but only lasted a little while and he ended up having a drink for his son that evening.

byronic I hope you have a fantastic curry tonight, I stayed with my boyfriend at the time in Italy years ago and it was the same thing, Indian restaurants just didn't exist! He wanted to start one as he loved Indian food (not too good at hard work though!).

I'm not sure about the EDD thing, it sounds like something they might have used before they had scans. If it is the case then angels I'm with you on not having a long pregnancy as my cycle was 26 days too.

So what's everyone up to this weekend? I shall be mostly packing (throwing out OH's junk) as we are moving in November. So excited as shall be able to decorate the nursery but bit scared...

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 13:27

Hmmm I'm not so sure about that rhyme, it's definitely not one that's been proved in my family. My brother is definitely closer to my mum than me or my sister. Also, although I'm not much of a feminist I really get irritated by gender stereotyping (would a girl really dislike the colour blue in their bedroom, 40 weeks?). Which makes it all the more peculiar that I'm so keen on a girl. But I'm sure all this madness will go away if it turns out to be a boy.

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 14:25

Ha ha I did say the same thing to my DH Zero - that the baby wouldnt care if the nursery was blue (or even know) but in my selfishness of having 5 nephews and 2 DS, I would just have to paint it pink as also my bedroom is Blue and lots of blue (and other colours) in DS' room. And its a very boyish theme, regardless of colour. Although I think blue and pink go well together too so some bits could stay. If it IS a girl she would be the most frilly pink vision of girliness as my whole family would fully exercise their right to finally buy pink at long last, so for that reason I hope its a boy!!!

This weekend I am off to meet my friend's new baby Smile have a lovely curry byronic - I had jalfrezi for one last night (DH was at a black tie do Envy ) and it was goooooood

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 14:34

Thanks needtosleep I was so restrained you have no idea! I kept asking DH, are you sure, are you SUUUURE you dont want to know, but he was adamant and deep down I do love the element of suprise. Have fun with your clearing out!

zerominuszero · 15/10/2010 15:40

Ah I see 40 weeks its the old family thing, fair enough. My family are used to babies but my mil is going crazy over this one, she's bought it several soft toys that are very age inappropriate especially considering its not even born yet but I will be grateful for her love and attention soon I'm sure.

Very much looking forward to the weekend and seeing a different set of in laws which will make a nice change and then its THE SCAN!!! :)

Hope everyone else has a fun or relaxing weekend.

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 15:55

Am off to Mark on way home from work to pick up some dinner - sure to be something naughty as I am starving! Food shopping when hungry = ymmu naughty food. Did Body Pump today which always makes me RAVENOUS (although so do most things - getting up off sofa, waking up in the mornings, etc etc)

So have a great weekend all and good luck for the scan Zero

40Weeks · 15/10/2010 15:56

I meant Marks and is M&S !

angels1 · 15/10/2010 16:06

oh zero bet it feels like the scan will never get here Wink

Just got back from work - what an afternoon! Some of you might remember I teach cooking but have had a supply helping me whilst I've been feeling off and funny with food etc. She was taking the lesson this afternoon and I was resting working hard doing what I could from the comfort of a seat at the back of the classroom (whilst breathing through my nose as it was sausage rolls - yuck to the smell). Anyway, bit of a fat related incident in the ovens (I was out of the room gossiping discussing very important business with a teacher next door) and walked back in to find 2 ovens on fire. Never had that happen before! All got sorted (although was very smelly of burnt and lots of smoke) and it was only afterwards I paniked I might have done damage to baby by breathing in the smoke. I'm a bit worried but don't think there could have been many fumes other than smoke, and the windows etc were open.... [worried emoticon]. My poor supply - every time I seem to go in she has trouble with something or other!

hornedtoadjennyp · 15/10/2010 16:49

I don't know for sure, but it is not like you were caught in a house fire and were suffering from smoke inhalation yourself and the baby's lungs aren't used for breathing yet. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Trojan1970 · 15/10/2010 19:02

Evening All - is anyone doing pregnancy yoga? And if so, did you do yoga before? Are you enjoying it? An NCT friend of mine from when I had DS1 runs a class and I'm thinking of going along.

Needtosleep - I had stabbing pains in my ribs too last weekend whilst in the swimming pool. It was really horrid and I thought I might cry/wet myself. The Lifeguard looked a bit worried too!! Grin Anyway, it passed after about 2 minutes and hasn't happened again. Have you had another attack? I had just done 30 quite vigorous lengths so I thought that might have brought it on, but agree with you about it not being indegestion.

wigglesrock · 15/10/2010 19:57

Trojan my best friend did pregnancy yoga throughout both her pregnancies, she loved it, really recommended it for relaxing. Don't think she was a regular yoga goer(!) beforehand.

PS Have had horrendous headache on and off for past few days, pain right at back of head just before nape of neck starts, normal? Really bad today, pain made me sick. no blurred vision etc

hornedtoadjennyp · 15/10/2010 21:47

I had that last Friday wiggles. Sat on the sofa most of the afternoon. Wanted dh to come home early and work from home (as all the bosses were doing). He made it home just before 6....Angry Hope you are feeling better really soon and manage to enjoy your weekend.

zerominuszero · 16/10/2010 10:44

Right I'm off to FIL for the weekend. Hope you lot have a good one. I was very annoyed with MIL last night when she failed to understand the concept of BLW again and even DH admitted he didn't really get it. But I have decided to give up fighting this one until the baby is born. Also, MIL said something silly about breast feeding which is about 30 years out of date. Grrr.

OK, I'm calm now.

jackinthebump · 16/10/2010 10:57

Morning all! I'm finding it quite amusing now watching my bump recreate the scene from Jurassic Park where they have the cup of water when the T-Rex starts moving! Makes me laugh lots! Hope everyone is well and has a good weekend!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 16/10/2010 13:45

Hello everyone Smile

Hope you're all well this weekend!

angels, I just had a but of a chuckle reading about the fires in your class, your poor supply teacher, I bet she feels terrible and thinks you think she can't handle it! I shouldn't laugh sorry Wink. I hope you're doing well and feeling okay today.

Trojan I haven't had anymore attacks, touch wood, really strange. You're amazing doing 30 lengths like that, I keep saying to OH that we must go swimming but always find an excuse....
I am doing yoga everyday but I used to teach it years ago and it's just part of my normal routine. I've had to adapt it now but it's great for breathing and stress relief. This makes me sound fit which I'm truly not....

I started my 1940s singing group on Thursday and it was great, my baby seems to love it as he was kicking so much it felt as if he were dancing! Is anyone else singing through pregnancy? I just wondered if it's okay to carry on throughout. Probably a silly first timer question, sorry Blush

I started clearing out stuff but seem to have come to a standstill, oops. Will return to it tomorrow, need a cake rest now.

MummyGeorgie · 16/10/2010 18:08

angels.. great bit of drama to end the week with!! I wouldn't worry about the smoke though. My job involved a fair bit of that sort of thing (before I knew I was pregnant and before I told them) and it doesn't seem to have done little ms fidget bottom any harm! Plus you have the wonderful filtration device that is the placenta now!

jackinthebump... love the description!! I haven't been able to see her move yet, so I'm looking forward to that bit but she bit boot DH in the hand for the first time this morning.

I'm trying the pregnancy yoga, it's really lovely and relaxing but I'm starting to feel guilty about the lack of exercise these days. Trying to convince DH that if I could have an exercise bike at home it'd make life a lot easier Wink

ledkr · 16/10/2010 18:08

Hi all congrats on the scanswiggles i get those headaches. I take one paracetamol and one 8mg of codiene and it works.
Its my birthday today and it seems very weird as had no inclination or energy to go out or do anything just watch re runs of ab fab. I had some lovely bits from everyone and dh bought me a nice flat screen tv for my bedroom lovely for those early nights.
It did occurr to me that as its a saturday i would normally be hosting a rowdy party, very different this year.

I had my 24 wk check yesterday with disinterested gp. I thought of angels. She did nothing that mw couldnt do but i did get my mat b1 tho and a script for gaviscon and some very nice pile cream :o

Will be booking my leave Monday, the thought of work makes me feel sick but i will see how it goes. The physio offerred me a stick or crutches on friday and gp offerred to sign me off.
I have been speaking to dh and decided that when we move offices it is going to be pretty much out of the question to carry on as its a 45 minute journey and as boss is being such an arse it will total up to a 10 hr day with travelling and enforced breaks. I am not prepared to take such risks as it will mean being on the m way at 6.30 at night when i am really tired. Im sort of glad he was so vile cos its given me the push to just finish earlier or go sick if spd no better.
Oh btw my fundus was measured for the first time fri and its 27!! I am 4 wks.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 16/10/2010 18:25

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEDKR! Grin

Glad you've had a relaxing day and I think you're doing the right thing with work, your boss sounds awful.

Enjoy your birthday night, even if you're not having a rowdy party make sure you get waited on hand and foot or do something outrageous to remember it by (even if that outrageous thing is going to bed at 8:30 Wink ).
