The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:

Morning all, antenatal last night was a bit, err, boring tbh! They did show a short vid with birth on and DH spent that time staring at the floor! The bump comparisons were very interesting however! I seem to be about the same bump size as others with same frame but they are six weeks ahead of me!!! Either I will be having large babies or the growing slows in the next few weeks?!
Also, we were told it is not unusual with twins for labour to start around 28 - 30 weeks!!!! Mine WILL stay put until at least 36!!!

Caboodle · 09/10/2010 10:41

Hullo, also new on here, baby due 1st Feb (just squeezed in there then) surprise. Can I join too (puts hand up and jumps up and down shouting 'pick me, pick me' a la primary school child) Grin

knittakid · 09/10/2010 10:53

Hello all,
Rowan is lovely! it's the name of a very nice yarn as well, so double nice...Smile

The guide to childbirth by Ina May G. arrived this morning, DH already hates it due to the hippy pictures of smiling people... and all this when we were close to agreeing to mention to the mw to book a homebirth... he now thinks it is all alternative bulls**t. Can anyone justify the book for me so I can argue back? not having read it is difficult to defend it!

earlgreyismynectar · 09/10/2010 11:21

Grin at your DH already hating it due to hippie pictures of smiling people!!! I'm waiting for Ina May's Spiritual Midwifery so that'll prob be even worse on the hippie stakes!! Sorry, no practical advice as I haven't read either but I'm with you on the idea of home birth so persevere! There must be good, contemporary non-hippie examples of home birth to show him?! You don't HAVE to have hairy armpits to want a homebirth (ewww!)...Grin

EauRouge · 09/10/2010 11:33

knitta, tell your DH that I plan to spend my homebirth watching highlights of the 2010 F1 season and then celebrating the birth with massive very rare steak, can't get much less hippy than that Grin

You could also show him some stats from the Netherlands (unless he thinks they are all hippies) where homebirths are far more popular. This site is pretty good too. And you can still have entonox and pethidine with a homebirth (check with your MW, might vary between areas) so it's not all crystal-waving and whale music. It's just a safe, relaxed, convenient way to do it.

If all else fails, tell him to jeff off because you'll be the one doing all the hard work!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 09/10/2010 11:56

knittakid I don't know where the idea of home births being hippyish came from but out of al the women I knwo that have had a home birth I would say only one was a little bit on the placenta eating side Grin

I'm awaiting the Ina childbirth book and have planned a meeting with my OH, mum and best friend as they will be with me during labour and I want to talk about what I'd like to happen then they can say if they have any problems with it. Basically OH will be on 1st stage of labour duty then making sure everyone has tea and cake/ sandwiches whilst the tough stuff happens (he seems a bit squeamish and I don't want him hanging around looking green and being useless).

My best friend had 2 emcs and she really wants to be with me and my mum will be fantastic at comforting me (and OH!) and pushing me through.

Maybe if you can explain what you would like your DH to do during the birth he will start to feel a bit more excited and less pessimistic.

jackinthebump it's good that you have special ante natal classes and I'm sure you're bump put others to shame! I didn't realise you could, theoretically, go into labour that early, not that you're going to of course. you sound like me except I've been telling my baby he's got to come out between 38-39 weeks and it's not on to be overdue Wink.

hope everyone is having a good weekend and welcome to Caboodle, you might be last to join and first to give birth with your EDD Smile

I'm sanding down and painting the crib that OH's parents gave us yesterday. It's actually quite big so hope to put off getting a cot for a while. It has a rocking option but I've told OH we won't use it as it's making a rod for our own backs.... is that right?

EauRouge · 09/10/2010 13:01

No such thing as making a rod for your own back with babies IMO (slap anyone that says it to you!). We used to rock DD to sleep in her bouncy chair or buggy and I had a couple of people say it to me but she doesn't need rocking to sleep now. There were a couple of weeks where she would only go to sleep if we walked her around in the sling and MiL had these words of wisdom- "you'll miss it when she's a teenager!".

ledkr · 09/10/2010 13:06

zero.I am a socail worker and wrok mon tues and wed so xmas week and ny week will benefit from the bank hols so i am planning to take 2 wks leave at begining of dec and two wks at beginging of Jan then finish the week before my section. I thought it may look like im taking the p but am going for it
anyway. will be informing my boss next Monday so will let you know his reaction.

need to sleep iam just about to start painting a wardrobe for babys room but dh said i cant due to fumes.I am tying a scarf around my face now. Did you look into it?

TMI alert-is anyone else extremely ahem horny?I cant leave dh alone at the moment. Very unexpected considering.

Bought a few things yesterday including the tomme tippee sensor pad monitor. It gave me such peace of mind with dd i just couldnt do without it.

Grannyapple · 09/10/2010 13:31

Hi ladies-I have stupid cold-started yesterday at work, just in time for the w/e-typical! Only managed about 4 hrs sleep on & off last night due to stupid sneezing! Supposed to be ordering pram today but not sure I can muster the energy....

Anyone know any good homemade remedies for colds while pg?

Now I know why I always reach for the beechams before I go to bed when normally get a cold.....at least I get a sleep then!

earlgreyismynectar · 09/10/2010 13:39

I painted DD's wardrobe when she was a baby (not in room) I used a water based paint & don't remember it being that bad. If you have concerns can your DH do it? Ditto horny, pretty much from start to end! was same with my last pregnancy, middle and final trimester's especially. I just feel a riot of hormones! Grin

ledkr · 09/10/2010 13:40

soluable paracetamol in hot honey and lemon. Lemsip without the decongestant which can actually make stuffyness worse.

naturalbaby · 09/10/2010 13:50

hiya, am new to this thread - been dawdling round the edges cause i had my due date moved at dating scan from 1st feb to 26th jan but i see there are a couple of other ladies due end of jan too.

wondering whether to buy a bump support band cause my stomach and back muscles aint happy - this is my 3rd bump, ds1 isn't even 2 1/2 yet so my poor body is complaining!

also got a stuffed up nose so am sniffing one of those olbas inhaler thingys, doesn't seem to be making much difference!

knittakid · 09/10/2010 13:59

Ooooh, can I have some of your libido? [sad}

NeedToSleepZZZ · 09/10/2010 14:29

thank you EauRouge, there's so much advice out there and it's very confusing, i don't want to make more work for myself but want to make the most of it as we're only having one.

ledkr I used a low voc, water based acrylic eggshell and wore a mask, think i might have been a bit over the top and suffering from pfb ness but nvm. The man in the shop assured me that the paint would be harmless (I told him what it was for). I don't envy you painting a whole wardrobe though, the crib took long enough and now my knees are aching!

now that libido you mentioned, got any spare? i keep waiting for that second trimester surge but.. nothing, all I seem to do is cry, moan and pass wind, is that sexy? Hmm Wink

welcome naturalbaby, try this for advice

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1058129-Support-for-baby-bump

really sorry about your cold grannyapple, have you tried some eucalyptus oil in a bowl of very hot water by the bed when you're trying to sleep. my friend swears by white rum as a cure all for everything but don't think that's allowed, sorry Wink

naturalbaby · 09/10/2010 16:03

thanks for the link - have been trawling ebay so will have a look.

am also planning my 3rd home birth so glad to see a few other mums to be thinking of doing the same! not read ina may properly but dh was pretty much railroaded that it was my way or the high way so he didn't get much choice/voice in the matter.

i've got a nose spray that a pharmacist told me was o.k during one of my last pregnancies. still not sure if it is but is helping me sleep through the night and ds2 came out o.k! other than that and just using the usual home remedies - hot water with honey and lemon, plenty of rest and vitamins&minerals, got some baby karvol decongestant that smells great and reminds me of being a kid tucked up at home!

ledkr · 09/10/2010 16:18

i think i may have to share it around cos dh is looking a little scared. We are home alone and painting haha.

I was right off it for ages but def back on last 2 weeks.

However i do still have all the nasty symptoms too. Wind and burps esp. I have also had a bit of the old anxiety and am largely irrational about everything.

Right off to finish my painting. Just had porridge and golden syrup as a snack ConfusedOut for acurry later.

cler · 09/10/2010 17:07

24+3 and getting bigger. We have decided to call our little man Corey Joel. He is a proper little wriggler today which always reasures me he is ok. Im proper craving chocolate all te time, whats everyones cravings?

EauRouge · 09/10/2010 17:49

NeedToSleep, this is what every member of my family told me and it worked really well for DD- if they're hungry, feed them; if they cry, pick them up; if they're tired, let them sleep; if they're dirty, clean them up. Simple enough and no need for any complicated baby book routines Grin

cler, lovely name :) Today I was craving vinegary salad dressing Confused this baby has odd taste.

grannyapple, we used a room humidifier when DD and I both had a bad cold when she was only 6 weeks old, it worked really really well.

ledkr · 09/10/2010 18:11

I am craving red wine and a sneaky fag :o

I am going to try and teach new baby to fall asleep if i can. DD was past from brother to brother from birth they never put her down. Then they got bored or got girlfriends and socail lives and left me with a baby who wanted to be picked up all the time.

Just found out that will only be in hospital for 2 nights after my section Shock

I have always had about 4-5. Im not even sure i will get up all my stairs to bed on first night back and it does put a whole new concern into the in laws expecting bed and board the weekend after. I just pray it at the begining of the week then will have afew days before they come for their ONE night haha.

i am so hungry. Am waiting for dh to change for curry you can tell hes not pregnant, i got ready in record time. Yum

smallblackflowers · 09/10/2010 18:13

EauRouge I second your advice and would like to add 'listen to your inner monkey' as in if it feels right instinctively then it probably is right.

cler nice name Smile I have been craving vegetarian food this week, have eaten 2 tubs of hummus and had a bean burger at Nandos this lunch time. I am usually the biggest meat eater going, but am just not fancying it at the moment at all.

naturalbaby · 09/10/2010 19:47

totally craving a medium rare steak and very runny eggs - had this last 2 pregnancies probably only cause i'm not allowed them!

heinz sandwhich spread and beetroot

tons of chocolate!

had a curry last saturday and took days to stop feeling grotty and sick after - sent my pregnancy indigestion into overdrive and i'd run out of indigestion tablets. bleurgh.

jackinthebump · 09/10/2010 20:14

Just a quick one for anyone who may not know - The baby Show is on at Earls Court from 22nd - 24th October. Conveniently this is my baby shopping weekend!!! I now need to decide if I am going to this or driving around all the different shops for the day.....

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 09/10/2010 21:07

If you do go, get there as early as possible -- it gets very full by lunchtime.

earlgreyismynectar · 09/10/2010 22:23

The baby show is going to be up where I live at the end of the month, not that I need any of the basics but perhaps the odd non essential! Let us know what it's like!

Welcome naturalbaby! I'd love to hear more of your hb experiences, it would be inspiring for those of us that are thinking about it! I'm really keen on the idea as with you needtosleep this will be my last pregnancy and birth and I would love it to be exactly the way I want it, I don't want to feel coerced into a hospital birth out of fear. This is DP's approach at the moment, should be in a hospital in case anything should go wrong etc etc & I can't see him changing his mind in a hurry. I appreciate of course that things can and do go wrong but my last labour and birth was relatively fast and straight forward and I laboured at home with no pain relief till I was 8cm (unaware at the time of course, in the zone!) to be honest I would have ended up having an unplanned hb had it been left to me! Anyway, I have decided to hire a doula and I look forward to meeting her and hearing her take on hb. I'd
love to hear your experiences! A support band should help your tummy and back, hope it eases soon.

Sorry re the tmi on libido! I too am suffering all the other symptoms; wind, bloating, irrationality..oh yes...

Love your name cler, cory is on my list too!

zerominuszero · 10/10/2010 07:27

Thanks angels and ledkr for comments re mat pay. I suppose if there was ever a time to forget about being cheeky and just take all the money you can get, that would be now. I've given them some pretty good service over the years... especially the year they decided to double the number of parents evenings against union advice Hmm

ledkr if your in laws really are expecting you to cook for them while you've got a baby, let alone after having a section, I would tell them where to go if I were you. I am expecting a lot of my family to visit soon after I pop but at least my lot will bring food and help around the house and with the baby too if I need it. If they didn't I wouldn't be impressed and they'd know about it. But is there any chance they might help out more than you think they will? maybe it won't be as bad as you think?

And am I the only person around here who is not at all horny? Dh has had to beg to get me into bed for the few occasions anything has happened since I got pregnant. Its been good when its happened but I haven't felt like initiating it at all. Sorry if that's tmi.
