The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

and instead of smf I mean sbf of course. Doh.

americanexpat · 08/10/2010 11:18

knittakid - my sweet tooth is out of control! I think I would eat a 100% cake diet if I allowed myself to. And I really like the name Lorenzo!

I think it was ledkr that mentioned it, but my heartburn kicks off in the morning when I eat or drink something, continues through the day when I eat something, then finally goes away overnight (only to start again the next day). I've been taking the chewable antacid tablets but I think I may need to try Gaviscon as the tablets barely keep it in check.

Welcome to the new people and congrats to everyone having scans (you're a chatty lot).

knittakid · 08/10/2010 11:21

You are right angels Picasso was a Pablo. Do you want to know something funny? we got two cats last Feb. and we were very close to call the male one Pablo (exactly after Picasso). My dream surprises me less and less now... how can I be so predictable?

Btw, I love Mr Bean too, used to watch it in southamerica! (along with Inspector Morse Smile!!)

Deliaskis · 08/10/2010 11:23

Thanks angels you're totally right about sleep making all the difference. It's when I'm tired that I'm just less able to cope with the normal stuff. E.g. yesterday morning exhausted and throwing up again, feeling very sorry for myself! This morning, not tired, and no throwing up either, everything is sunshine.

On another note, something I noticed the minute I woke up this morning was that bump was different. At my scan on Tues the lady said s/he was lying on bum/back, so (imagine tommy split into 4 'lobes') head top right (alhtough top still only being just around the height of my bellybutton), feet bottom left.

Most of the time I've had a bump it has been firm at the top and soft and squidgy lower down (yes I was a bit soft and squidgy there to start with!).

But this morning, I really felt like baby must have been lying differently, as bump felt really hard and firm lower down and softer higher up. Firm so that I could feel it without actually touching with my hands IYSWIM. Just the minute I woke up, it felt 'different'. And then a few minutes after I had stood up (with lots of feeling of movement), it was back to normal again. So I might be talking myself into this, but I really feel like while I was horizontal, baby had a wriggle into a different position, and then I stood up and s/he wriggled back to the sofa lounging position again (wonder where s/he gets that from!).

Might be wishful thinking, but it just felt really funny. Nice these days to know my baby is 'up to' stuff. Feeling a lot of movement this week, it's been a bit of a wriggle bum this week.

Hello ladies

Hope everyone is well. Flying visit as at work but laptop is hidden away at work so thought I'd pop in and say 'hi'

Still almost 1 week to go before my scan. Had a horrid week which started with horrible dreams about me and the baby, rowing with DH (in real life, not dream) kids playing up and waking every 2 hours through night and DS2 getting sent home from nursery with hand, foot and mouth, which meant contagious = no socialising. Was so miserable and tired, and then saw above messages about sleep! All hail Sleep!

Am desperate for a hair cut/back massage and rest please.

SOOOO whinge over. Whats everyone planning for the weekend? Any more exciting baby purchases?

Expat the cake thing is pure torment!! All I want to eat are belgian buns, I think I am keeping Greggs bakery in business! I have always been a bit partial to cake but this is ridiculous! And yes, heartburn started this week - have always suffered with it in pg and always try to have Gaviscon/Rennie tablets in every nook/cranny/handbag. Its worse at night for me.

Hope you are all managing to get some respite from the niggles. Or at least some sympathy....

tadjennyp · 08/10/2010 17:48

I don't think it was me talking about the logic of larger age gaps, angels - I just see the evidence of the opposite all day, every day [completely fed up of squabbling emoticon] Grin

ledkr · 08/10/2010 18:24

Hi all thanks for the comments re age gaps. There was 12 yrs between ds3 and dd1 and they adored eachother. He left home at 18 tho as his gf was pg and dd really pined for him and still does a bit. Hope that dd stays with us a bit later tho so dd2 can still have her big sis.
Had physio today but its mostly advice and i have a giant piece of tubigrip to wear round my hips. Tis very comfy indeed. Have found that just not doing any walking has taken it reight off so will try to remain immobile now for the next 4 months.
Heart burn really kicks in after evening meal and i also feel bloated and uncomfortable. Will be trying to have a much smaller dinner from now on but im just so hungry haha.Going to have a glass of low alchol wine too mmm.

can i have your thoughts on something please. DH has been invited on stag do in may. It abroad for 3 nights and will cost 500 without spending money and other costs.
I will be on mat leave and therefore down on my wages and if im honest feel a bit resentfull being left with such a young baby. It will also possibly mean no holiday for us too. In theory he could save up now but with xmas and baby stuff and room to get ready that would be hard too.
He seems happy not to go but i sense some disappointment. My mates have all said not to worry and to just leave it at that but i cant help feeling a kill joy. I am extremely anxious and touchy this pg btw.

Wanderingsheep · 08/10/2010 18:43

Hi everyone!

Ledkr, I think you're being perfectly reasonable with asking him not to go. It's a bad time for it and £500 plus spends is a lot of money for just 3 days away particularly when you have a new baby! I don't think I'd be happy about DH going, although maybe that says something about my character Grin! But I know for a fact that there's no way DH would want me to go either so it's swings and roundabouts really...

Tarlia, had her scan yesterday like I did, has she been back to report? I hope she's ok!

I'm absolutely knackered! Took DD to a playgroup today and walked about 3 miles (which I usually do anyway) but it's knackered me out today! Everyone kept commenting on how small I am for 20 weeks Hmm

jackinthebump · 08/10/2010 18:53

Hi all!

Deliaskis - sounds like baby could well be changing positions! Im squite sure mine do, one minute all 'normal' the next one or both has moved and my tummy feels really heavy at the front and uncomfortable to walk! Very strange feeling! Also, sometimes the whole bump is rock hard other times it is squidgy in places.

Well, I have my first Twin Ante Natal class tonight, DH not at all looking forward to it and keeps asking what they are going to do (he is very squeamish!!!) I have no idea what to expect but said we will go and if we don't like it not bother again! Not sure I'll manage to stay awake until 21:30 though!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

ledkr · 08/10/2010 18:59

Thanks wandering. I think its my character i am wondering about? You hear such stories about these dos and we are under such pressure to be all trusting and cool but i cant imagine how we would afford it either.
You are right too about him not wanting me to do it. I sneakily suggested that he go and then i will go and see my (old partying) friends in ibiza for the weekend,he suddenly didnt seem so keen :o funny that

ledkr · 08/10/2010 19:00

Jackin- let us know how it goes. Dint know they did specific ones. What aspecial girl you are :)

Wanderingsheep · 08/10/2010 19:01

JackInTheBump, I'm sure your DH will be fine at the ante-natal class. My DH was VERY squeamish last time but managed the antenatal classes ok. They just went through things like pain relief options and how to cope in labour etc. They did show us a chart of how much you need to dilate though which was a bit Shock though! I'm not sure how different twin classes will be but it'll be nice to meet other multiple mums and dads to be Smile.

Wanderingsheep · 08/10/2010 19:07

Are any second, third or fourth etc timers doing ante-natal classes this time? We haven't bothered booking on to any this time. We didn't think there was much point as we know what to expect and I read so much anyway but I enjoyed going last time, I liked being nosy and comparing people's bumps Blush.

ledkr · 08/10/2010 19:13

I did with dd1 now 8 cos was going for avbac. Wont be bothering this time tho as elective c section so no real point.Just want to get in take the drugs get her out and get out myself!!haha

Wanderingsheep · 08/10/2010 19:19

The MW was trying to get me to have a HB! Hmm must be bloody joking! An epidural was bliss last time and I can't get one of those at home, I'll go where the drugs are thanks Grin! Although a HB must be amazing if you're not a wimp like me.

OP posts:
debka · 08/10/2010 19:50

Can't think of much worse than a HB. All that mess and DD coming in saying 'why is Mummy screaming?', DH popping out to have a fag and fettle his Land Rover and my Mum knocking on the door asking if I've had it yet.

No thanks!

I'll have the hospital with lovely nurses looking after me thank you!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 08/10/2010 20:15

la la la la la

am planning a home birth, think I must be mad but I'm really not frightened about labour. I even said to my consultant yesterday that I'm sure I should be a bit more scared than I am, maybe I'll have a big freak out with the first contraction and demand to go to hospital but I can't picture it somehow (phobia of hospitals, shudder).

Please can no one remind me of this post when it comes to delivery, I'm perfectly happy to eat my own words... Wink

smallblackflowers · 08/10/2010 20:28

Hi all, I've not been feeling very sociable in the last week, so have been lurking but not joining in. Congrats to those with scan news and welcome to the newbies Smile

Angels - thanks for noticing my absence Smile

I did the toilet paper measurement today and measured 8 and a tiny bit, so pretty average even though I think I look huge.

I will def be having a hospital birth, had to last time due to GD, and expect I'll be diagnosed again at 28 weeks, although would love a water birth (not sure if I should though due to the pooing last time Blush).
Had to have an episiotomy (sp) last time too as DD's heart rate was dropping massively during pushes and I needed to get her out faster.
Am a little scared about the possibility of a CS, as currently have a low lying placenta, and am in the 'as natural as possible please' club - only had G&A with DD.

earlgreyismynectar · 08/10/2010 20:35

Hmmm not sure yet between home or hospital, as this is the final one for me I would love to try for a home birth but if this place doesn't sell by Xmas we're either staying put (it's a flat but I have very understanding neighbours lol!!!) or rented who-knows-where... I think I'm with you there needtosleep! Heard back from Doula, it's looking positive and at £200 I think it's well worth it (there's a chance DP is going to miss birth which is another reason I'm thinking of this)... I too have been getting lots of wriggling and kicking sensations from baby which is always lovely. Listening in less on the fetal heart monitor as that is all the reassurance I need! Loving some of the names! Pablo and Pedro are gorgeous! And angels, are you thinking of Rowan?! I love that name too. I'm making a list but still none the wiser to be honest! I'll share when I'm inspired! Weekend yes!!! Have a good one everyone!

earlgreyismynectar · 08/10/2010 20:42

Oh and byronicheroine thanks for adding my TP stats! Nice to see you SBF! I too have been on & off here. At the end of the day, I agree that if there is any risk of complication the best place is the hospital. When I was in with DD the nurses were lovely at helping me to get breast feeding established and whisking DD off at night if she wouldn't settle and I needed sleep (I heard they don't do that anymore?!) I'd definately miss that with a home birth!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 08/10/2010 20:47

Midwives clear up after HB, apparently. And I had my mother phoning the hospital to see whether I'd had DS yet (was not amused when DH got called out of delivery room when I was pushing); at least at home we could have turned the phone off.

tadjennyp · 08/10/2010 21:07

I'm even sure that home births are legal in Oregon, not that I fancy one. There are some states where it is de facto illegal because no-one who could attend the birth would be insured to do so. Hoping everyone has a lovely weekend. Feeling guilty as I have just put a DVD on for the dcs (tis lunchtime here) because I have a migraine. Blush

zerominuszero · 09/10/2010 08:47

Morning everyone! I have a question for any other teachers on here. Are you considering going back to work for the last week in July so that you get full pay over the summer holidays? Or is it too cheeky? Can the school do anything to stop it?

angels1 · 09/10/2010 08:48

Morning Ladies,

Yes earlgrey you guessed our boys name correct :)

ledkr I think it's completely reasonable to expect/request to your DH not to go on that trip. Especially as it might mean the family would have to sacrifice a holiday for it.

I've been getting the dreaded ligament pain too - I can walk about 500m until it gets so painful I have to shuffle/rest/moan/grab my tummy etc.

Think baby was kicking me in the bladder last night- I kept getting sudden kicky feeling on my bladder which kept giving me the feeling I might wet myself. Very odd and a bit Blush. I hope it doesn't happen when I'm out and need the loo - for I fear I might actually risk wetting myself - has anyone heard of someone wetting themselves from this???!

I am a walking fluid retention machine now I think - my legs look awful and chunky at the bottom and my hands/wrists have swollen so much I've had to (with difficulty) take off my engagement ring and my watch that was roomy is now slowly getting tighter Shock

angels1 · 09/10/2010 08:51

zerominuszero I'm a teacher and a collegue earlier this year did just that! Tbh I think they expect you to and is fairly commonplace in schools. I'm going back in early December, a week or so before christmas holidays so I get back on pay roll for christmas break (I'm in private system so christmas hols are a month which makes this very worthwhile Wink ).
