The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

angels re the GTT, I haven't spoken to mw yet as only just started fretting today, perhaps I'll ring later and just check. I would appreciate their (or a dietician/diabetes type person) feedback on my diet now to be sure that I discontinue anything that might causing a risk. FWIW, I think my diet is pretty good on the whole, but this has caused me to have concerns so would like the reassurance.

Reassured about what you have said re GTT test normally being 28 weeks anyway, as had been worried about late provision of sample.

angels i have just been out for lunch with dh and told him i will be taking it easier at work for now on. I dont know what i am trying to prove but i am doing far too much and crashed my car yesterday between visits(not serious)but drove nearly 60 miles in one day as well as rushing to a meeting. I took a lunch break but ended up picking up dil and gs to babysit dd and then a prescription from gp so no break at all.
Got into work today and pg work coleague is off yet again as "she needs a rest" and thought wtf am i doing? e mailed boss and said i will not be doing long journeys anymore and cutting down my hrs too.He just called me and was very supportive. So dont you worry love you have nothing to prove, you have years to work. I will be on mn abit more in the future haha.
I must echo the advice of getting out as i had terrible anxiety when my marriage broke up and excercise def saved me.
Thanks for the sympathy re spd. I have had a comfy few days as i have not needed to walk.It def helps. Off to do food shop now so will be in agony tonight i expect tho.

debka · 06/10/2010 16:41

Delia please stop fretting. My BMI is (whisper it) 44, it was with DD as well and my pg was the healthiest and easiest. I had several GTT tests and they were all fine. I think if you are in general a healthy fat person you will be a healthy fat pg person.
Good luck!!

GinaFB · 06/10/2010 16:47

Hello ladies, hope everyone is well! Have been away and the thread moves way too fast to keep up!!

Just a quick question to the wise MN ladies.... to all those who suffer with SPD can I ask how it started for you? I have a pain that feels like a muscle strain in my bottom that is very painful if I move my hips awkwardly..... not sure if it is the start of it or not!

jackinthebump · 06/10/2010 16:55

Hi all! A bit late with Toilet Paper Tuesday as I have been in Belfast, but just measured using Andrex - 9 and 3/4! Usually I'm a size 14.

Carpet was fitted today for nursery so its all decorated now! Just got to buy cots!!!

Got loads of baby stuff, just trying to get the expensive bit over and done with while we have the money to do it and before I can't walk! Anyone else starting to find it uncomfortable walking for more than 5-10 min???Blush

angels1 · 06/10/2010 16:59

That's interesting debka - I think the medical people have you believe if you have a risk factor then chances are you WILL have GT. My BMI was just tilting in the obese category (I think), but my weight was taken at 15 weeks so was higher than pre-preg anyway, so I'm thinking I really may not have a big likelihood of GT anyway despite them recommending the bloods Hmm . delia do you have a date through for your blood test?

ledkr glad you're taking it easier and work are being good about it - hope you're OK after little car accident (that makes it sound liek someone wet themselves in your car doesn't it?! you know what I mean!) - I was thinking about how you're doing today as didn't think (or at least felt like) you hadn't been on for a few days.

Still await delivery of my maternity coat - was suppose to come yesterday and didn't, then was due to come today but still hasn't - am feeling mighty fed up too as I've found one I like a bit more on next online Confused

Deliaskis · 06/10/2010 17:00

Thanks debka, that's reassuring. WIll just keep eating healthily and wait for December for test.

tadjennyp · 06/10/2010 17:19

Thing is angels, will it help or hinder your anxiety if you work till, say, half-term? Will you feel like you are less of a 'weed' or will it make you feel worse? Listen to your gut instincts and the advice of the professionals. I didn't listen to anyone saying that I should give up bfing my little boy (and this is a personal circumstance and other people would deal with things differently) until I'd developed PND seriously enough for the GP to ban me from driving for a couple of weeks. What do you really feel about what you can manage?
I'm a bit worried about the GTT test too as I'd put on over half a stone in a month. I worked really hard at WW last year so I could get pregnant again and it's scary how quickly I have put weight on! Blush

knittakid · 06/10/2010 18:53

Hello all, sorry to hear about all these things going on angels, I understand you love your job, but you will return to it and do it for a long time yet, so perhaps you can give yourself a moment now to concentrate on yourself and get better with time, and yes, don't stay in all day! that'll come when the little one arrives?

ledkr good on you for being assertive at work, you are deff. doing too much! really don't know how you cope and do it all...

We had scan today, all well, didn't want to be meassured, so first kept on moving away from the scanner and then lying face down... had to go out and eat a chocolate bar (poor me) to get it to move and hopefully change position, which worked (well done snickers!), and it's a boy!!!! couldn't believe it as that's what I've dreamt. And since in one of the dreams he chose his name, well, who am I to contradict? Smile

EauRouge · 06/10/2010 19:10

Brilliant news knitta ! Are you going to tell us the name or is it a secret?

ledkr · 06/10/2010 19:23

knitta thats great news congrats. Yes do share. If mine was a boy it was going to be Elijah.Dont really have girls name as yet. Thanks for kind words re work. I feel loads better now. Just went to boots for canestan prescription but they didnt have it. So annoying but bought some little pink dummies so sweet.I just stared at the bottles and gave up haha.
Has anyone else managed to get gaviscon off gp?I am fuming that mine told me to buy it. Surely pg women get free scripts due to having more symptoms and therefore needing mored meds.I certainly sont get heartburn normally!I get thru loads and its quite dear.

Tarlia · 06/10/2010 19:30

Wow, so many scans over the last few days! Congrats everyone - so pleased to hear all of the good news. Mine is tomorrow too, W.Sheep. Eeepppp. What time is yours?

Please don't fret about the GTT, I really got upset about it and it was fine and this is coming from someone who has felt ill even before my BFP was dreamed of.

I'm wondering if it might be nice to make a copy and paste list with out TPT measurements so that we can see them all. Its nice to see we are all around the same though! Its funny how that works. I'll start..

angels1 · 06/10/2010 20:01

ledkr I've got gaviscon on prescription - GP has put it on repeat for 6 more bottles and they are the MASSIVE ones and she was very keen to prescibe for me - seems really unfair you have to pay - can you see another GP to see if they will write one for you?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 06/10/2010 20:15

If you want to vet your diet for GD-compatibility, if you do turn out to have GD you basically have to eat a low-GI diet (lots of good books on this but in very very quick summary, cut way back on rice/bread/pasta/potatoes/pastry/cakes and anything sugary (including fruit juice, although fruit is OK) and include some protein with each meal or snack) and eat smaller meals with snacks in between rather than eating three bigger meals a day.

And don't fret about waiting until 28 weeks for the GTT -- as I have moaned interminably about on here before, I am being assumed to have GD and they still don't want to see me or me to do anything in particular diet-wise until 24 weeks. So as the chances are you don't have GD anyway you have nothing to fret about (it generally develops and gets worse during pregnancy, so the chances are you'd pass the GTT if you took it now, even if you'd fail it at 28 weeks. Last time I failed by a whisker at 28 weeks so would probably have passed even at 26/27 weeks).

ledkr · 06/10/2010 20:20

I am seeeing another next fri for 24wk appointment. The one i spoke to today is the head one and known to be a tight arse.
prof do you know why he would be refusing to prescribe and if i can do anything about it?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 06/10/2010 20:28

General stinginess, at a guess (to be fair, I think they have a restricted total budget for Stuff They Prescribe so are often reluctant to prescribe things that are available over the counter and they think you should be able to afford for yourself as it eats into the budget for lifesaving stuff only available on prescription)

zerominuszero · 06/10/2010 20:59

angels hope it gets better for you. I don't have any clever words of advice I'm afraid, just that you're in our thoughts. Just do what you can and stop feeling guilty.

angels, please please cut yourself some slack! You are in no way, shape or form a wimp - in fact, sometimes doing the washing up makes me need a bit of a sit down if I've been standing up a while Blush and I'm a SAHM whose DD is at pre-school for two and a half days a week, so I haven't really got much to do and I'm a lazy cow. I really hope that you start to feel better soon.

Ledkr, I got gaviscon on prescription last time. I complained of heart palpitations (which turned out to be nothing) but I was also having awful heartburn. This time I've had to buy it!

Tarlia, good luck for your scan tomorrow! Mines at 2.10 pm.

Meant to add a congratulations to Knittakid! That's so lovely about your dream and the fact that you're going to use that name Smile Smile

Oh, I measured myself again last night, with toilet paper, as yesterday when I measured I hadn't eaten. Last night I had grown a whole half sheet so my bump is 8 sheets!

Congratulations on your baby boy knittakid, I love it when medical professionals tell you to eat chocolate, now if they could prescribe that I'd be very happy and the size of a house. Please let us know his name! Wink

ledkr Every pregnant woman I've ever known has been prescribed Gaviscon so that's a bit odd.

Agree with everyone else, angels listen to your HCPs (on this, anyway we may well be merrily telling you to ignore them once the baby gets here...) and don't blame yourself for the way you react to pregnancy any more than you'd blame yourself for the way you react to a flu virus.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 07/10/2010 00:19

Think I've managed to incorporate all the scan results, new posters and date changes... please shout if not.
