I have opened the virtual gin, found the Desperate Romantics and am about to start playing I've Never. Who's with me?

Not enough amniotic fluid. She was getting daily monitoring for it. I think everything was fine with the baby itself. But obviously today they must have decided something had changed.

laurielou · 04/10/2010 15:32

Oh muse I've no idea re early babies. Just wanted to add support for your SIL. Look after yourself too, x

Headbanger · 04/10/2010 15:35

I have nothing useful to add Muse, other than the (completely asinine, sorry) observation that on Google there's a lot of very positive stuff about babies born at that age thriving very well. Just dropping by to say thinking of your SIL & family and will be looking out for updates. xx

Headbanger · 04/10/2010 15:37

And Drom, I am so sorry about your friends. What rotten news.

OkieCokie · 04/10/2010 15:50

They must think it is better baby being out than in. In situations like this you have to trust the professionals.

PerfectDromedary · 04/10/2010 15:55

Muse One of my colleagues had a placental abruption at 6 months. After a few terrifying weeks, baby was fine. Baby is now a very happy, active toddler with no developmental differences to any other child his age.

As far as I know, although is not ideal, baby is pretty much cooked by 32 weeks and will be ok if born at that stage. I'll have everything crossed for your SIL & the little one.

Thanks for sympathy for poor friends. IVF is a heartbreaking lottery.

Thanks all. I have been googling as well. And buying many cute toys in the airport. Because then little niece/nephew will be ok. Obviously.

Backinthebox · 04/10/2010 16:34

This is the best malaria article I have ever read. I work in many malarial places and don't take anti-malarials as I would be on them permanently, but I am very aware of malaria. We get a few cases of it each year at work, and have had the occasional person die from it - scary! People who die generally don't know it is malaria they have got - the article explains it quite well. If I am going on a roughing-it camping type holiday I do take tablets though. I can't see me going on that type of hols for a while though!

As for vaccines - the people who annoy me most are those who refuse to get their kids done at all and then cite herd immunity as their reasons for not doing it. Firstly, you want everyone else to put their kids through a procedure you deem to be too dangerous for yours in order to protect yours? Secondly, you have no idea what herd immunity really means - it requires as many as possible to take part. Gah, I hate these people!

AlpinePony · 04/10/2010 16:59

rocket We have a mutual friend on fb who is not a PESH! ShockWink West country artist...

rollerbaby · 04/10/2010 17:26

Oh muser how worrying for your family. I'm sure the baby will be absolutely fine after a good spell in an incubator though. I'm pretty sure after 28 weeks they're fine to come out and if the doctors are saying better out than in, he or she will be in safe hands. All that said, it must be very scary, particularly when you're pregnant yourself and you know just how vulnerable everything is. Thinking of your SIL - let us know how she is.

Muser · 04/10/2010 18:26

News waiting for us when we landed. Another nephew 1.2 kilos. Breathing on his own and apparently all is good, he's just small and early.

CUNextTuesday · 04/10/2010 18:27

thank goodness for a safe delivery Smile

Scorpette · 04/10/2010 19:16

Oh, am so happy he's okay, Muse. Me and my brother were both preemies and are perfectly fine (yes, yes, debate otherwise amongst yourselves Wink). And, as I think you've seen in my FB pics, my brother is a strapping lad, so it doesn't necessarily indicate future titchiness or anything. As Moomin so wisely says, these things are extra worrying when you're pg yourself, but everything is fine now. I hope SIL is bearing up well, poor thing - must be v stressful for her and her partner right now. But mainly HAPPY, hurrah!

Headbanger · 04/10/2010 19:18

PHEW. Well done all round, and blessings upon the mite!

Muser · 04/10/2010 19:21

Mum sounds like she's doing better than Aunty. I keep crying, she phoned and sounded fab.

In other Muser insanity stories. I haven't felt Bob move today, and not much yesterday either. At 19 weeks that's probably just a shift of position meaning I can't feel the flutters, right? I should not be menkulling?

SilverSky · 04/10/2010 19:32

muse good news on your nephew. Bob could be lying low and you being stressed today can have an impact on baby movements. If in doubtget it checked out. Don't delay. Put your mind at rest.

Muser · 04/10/2010 19:37

Thanks. Am now home and got the doppler out. He's definitely lying low, I eventually found him though. Little bugger. I think the very loud ceilidh music at the wedding scared him and he went and hid.

SilverSky · 04/10/2010 19:45

Yay! Bob still has loads of room so not unusual for them to go quiet when they have so much space. I had a similar issue at 23 wks and rushed to the hospital. I was told to keep my fluid levels up. Also a can of pop and choccie bar also had the desired effect. Doesn't change the fact that it's downright worrying.

rollerbaby · 04/10/2010 20:40

Congrats Auntie Muser!

Muser · 04/10/2010 20:44

I had tried the choccie bar but it wasn't helping. I think I can feel movement now but lower and much easier to confuse with trapped wind (oh the glamour).

Scorps, sorry to hear you are vomming. Hope it's not too bad. Medee have you decided what buggie you're getting? I am thinking a Bugaboo Bee as I have heard great things about it's size and portability for a city gal such as myself.

Although having spent the weekend in the vicinity of Loch Lomond I am once more wishing I was in Scotland and not London. I was trying to convince MrM that we should move to Edinburgh and buy a little holiday chalet in the west for escaping to the prettiness.

Ariesgirl · 04/10/2010 20:53

Glad WeeMuseNeph is ok. Tssk, these little nephews eh? So troublesome! Will he be in an incubator etc for long?

Don't buy a chalet in the west highlands. You will feel compelled to go there all the time to justify it, even in the rain and in midge season!

Scorpette · 04/10/2010 21:07

Museroonie, are you sure he hasn't just tired himself with all his ceilidh (sp?) practice? Wink Try talking to him about taking long walks in the grounds of your Highland Lodge - that might perk him up

Have just razzed again, unfortunately, but it's not heinous upchucking (yet). I'd just had an all-fruit ice lolly - raspberry flavoured vom is SO wrong Wink

Sending new nephew and family lots more love

Muser · 04/10/2010 21:23

MuseNeph will probably be in hospital for 4 weeks or so. I bought cute toys in the airport as I wanted to do something happy. Am now trying to think if there's anything practical I can get for them. The Grandparents have probably bought up the entire world's supply of preemie babywear now. I'm glad they've got family close.

I now kind of want to find out whether Bob is a Robert or a Kate at my scan next week. To see if we can get a full house of boychildren in the family.

Muser · 04/10/2010 21:28

Also ick and gross to raspberry flavoured vom. My top tip is not to drink milk if you are likely to vom. It comes back up cottage cheese.

I was quite restrained on the ceilidh dancing Scorps. It is quite fearsome when in full swing. I did get up for one dance and was advised to sit back down again as it involved the menfolk picking the womenfolk up and spinning them round in circles. I think Bob would have got dizzy.

rocketleaf · 04/10/2010 21:35

Muse, so glad your neff is ok!! MUst have been a scary day today. Hope Bob becomes a bit more active to set your mind at rest.

Ski - that is VERY spooky, how do you know her? Actually not that spooky as on of the BESH is a friend of mine IRL who figured out who I was while lurking on the BESH thread. Small world wide web

Think I spoke to soon re lack of sickness as have been feel rough ALL day. Not helped by scroppies colourful descriptions of her vom. :o
