I'm having trouble with the caffeine too. Just had a disgusting peppermint tea, but it's better than green. I almost gave up tea for ttcing (I've gone from 7-8 cups a day with 2 sugars in to one or two cups a week) but I LOVE tea. And what with no wine as well, this is going to be tricky!

A chemical pregnancy is any miscarriage before 6 weeks. It can be up to six weeks because it means that the baby hasn't implanted properly. You get positive pregnancy test results but then you quickly get negative ones and start bleeding.

I had increasingly dark pregnancy tests for four days (from 11DPO), then all of a sudden on 16DPO a negative test and started bleeding the same day. By that time I'd told all my family and all DH's family Blush

They are pretty common. Sorry! The good news is that means it doesn't mean anything is wrong. It's just a blip.

Tolalola · 20/10/2010 15:20

Oh hurrah! I'm getting the teapot out again. I am in the Caribbean, and it's all a bit weird here. i.e. they say absolutely NO alcohol or caffeine, but don't tell you about a single food that you shouldn't eat...

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 15:26

Oh wow the carribean! Where exactly? Are you from there or did you move there? I am very jalous. And cold. very, very cold. Do you have info on foods that are generally not recommended during pg then? There's some very simple but helpful advice here and it included reccommendation on caffeine.

Nervousexcited · 20/10/2010 15:26

Hello, i am new to all this, still learning what all the shortcuts mean - dh/ af/ b/d etc (smile) so pls bear with me. I found out on Monday I am pregnant, about 5weeks but as my last cycle was unusually long, 40 days, dr can' t say exact time we conceived! Am nervous but excited, my DH is so excited but I don't want to get carried away until our scan. But obviously I am ecstatic! I have not got any sick-ness, just sore bb's and stupidly tired. I think the other symptoms are in my head, like symptom spotting before you get a BFP! Anyway sorry fir going on and on and I look forward to reading more posts soon x

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 15:31

congratulations Nervous excited [hgrin]

yellowtomato · 20/10/2010 15:41

Hi Tolalola caffeine is allowed here....where are you?

This page tells you all sorts about food but there is a section on coffee and alcohol explaining exactly how much you can have

coffee advice

Put the kettle on! Wink

8rubberduckies · 20/10/2010 15:50

Nervousexcited congratulations! I also found out monday on day 44 of my cycle, so am not sure of dates... I feel your pain!

cep · 20/10/2010 15:58

wow look at all the posts in just a couple of hours.

Welcome newbies and congratulations.

caffeine is ok but you still have to be careful and not have too much. tea/coffee doesn't bother me but i drink a lot of pepsi max.

ooh carribean - i got married in the dominican republic.

Nervousexcited · 20/10/2010 16:08

Thank you guys! We are not telling people for a good few weeks yet so nice to be able to talk about things.

Jera · 20/10/2010 16:12

I'm due 6th June according to the calendars. My 1st (IVF & donor eggs) - poss 2 - scan on 3rd Nov will confirm. Am 41 & new on here so please help me!

IsabelleSE19 · 20/10/2010 16:19

Thanks yellowtomato. Not too many jobs around - I work in publishing, which is notoriously sensitive to economic downturns. However, I am starting to realise that recruitment agencies don't seem to do too much for you if you don't keep hassling them, so definitely going to get on their cases more.

Just eaten a Flake so am generally feeling more positive about the world... [hgrin]

yellowtomato · 20/10/2010 16:29

Isabelle absolutely right about agencies, you need to be very proactive to get them to do anything for you. If they think you are motivated and more likely to perform well at interview and get an offer (so they get commission) the more likely they are to help you. Also if something comes in you'll be the first candidate who comes to mind.

Hmmm, chocolate.....

yellowtomato · 20/10/2010 16:29

Oh and welcome and congratulations Jera

TumTumGnu · 20/10/2010 16:43

Wow this thread is starting to get out of hand! What a lot of people Smile

I too am suffering with the reduction in caffiene, I am a big tea and very strong coffee drinker so am trying to cut down a bit. Ho hum sometimes it is like all the fun things are bad for me Wink

Well after my spotting yesterday I then started getting some nasty abdominal pains which of course totally freaked me out. I spoke to my midwife about it this morning as I had my first apointment and she has booked me in for an early scan next wednesday.

This afternoon the pain seems to have settled down a bit but the bleeding has got heavier so not sure what to think! Confused
Thankfully it is still mostly brown and when I did a preg test just now the line came up really quickly and was really strong. Also my temps were still good this morning. So I am trying to stay positive and think calm thoughts until next wednesday.

CuppaMouldyBatBallsBrothJanice · 20/10/2010 16:44

Welcome Nervousexcited and Jera! Possibly 2?!! I suppose there are so many of us that statistically someone must be having twins. I reckon either you or Barbie!!

Thanks to those of you who have explained chemical pregnancies. I'm now wondering if I had one when ttc DS. AF was 3 days late and quite heavy - I remember it started at Bluewater shopping centre and I cried all the way home Blush - hormones! I guess this is why the MC stats are so high if CPs are included - something positive to focus on for those of us who have reached 6 weeks +.

I can't stand coffee so I'm not missing that at all. I'd love a nice smoked salmon sandwich though, and a dunky egg with soldiers, or a glass of Baileys and ice.......

sasamaxx · 20/10/2010 16:48

Oh my goodness - I am NEVER going to catch up with this thread Shock

Er - congratulations to everyone who has joined over the last couple of days - I will try to get through all the posts but really short on computer time just now.

I am still so knackered all the time, and have a really bad cold and cough which is just wiping me out at the moment.

The kids are SO SO demanding as well and won't let me rest for a minute.

Anyway, apart from that, at least time is passing and that magical 12 week mark is getting closer (only 4 and a half weeks away now)
My mammoth eating frenzy kind of slowed yesterday as I felt sick while eating my dinner and had to abandon it Shock

Hope everyone is coping ok with the symtoms - sorry I've not replied individually to anyone - will try to do so later if I can Smile

Tolalola · 20/10/2010 17:18

I'm in the British Virgin Islands. Dominican Republic is lovely, what a nice place to get married, cep! I am from here but my parents are English and I went to school/University and worked in England before moving back here, so I'm sort of half and half. My DP is English/American, so DS has 3 passports!

Thanks for the links to the foods/caffeine thing NurseSunshine and yellowtomato. I have a book from my last pg, but the beginning of that was 3.5 years ago and the guidelines seem to change so fast that I'd better get a catchup!

Haven't been to see the Dr. yet - has everyone else been? It's expensive here and my health insurance lapsed when I started working at home after DS was born, so I'm trying not to go more than I need to.

yellowtomato · 20/10/2010 17:24

tolalola I've been to the dr but the appt only lasted about 3 mins, she just put me in the 'system' and said that I'd hear from midwife/about 12 week scan in due course. Neither are likely to happen before 12 weeks.

But some people have seen midwife already so I think in the uk it depends where you live! How far along are you, I can't seem to see if you said, there have been so many posts!

moomin156 · 20/10/2010 17:39

A 2 hr kip and once again i have missed loads....welcome all the newcomers and congratulations.
sasamaxx i have the cold bug and feel awful but with just myself to look after i have spent the last 3 days in bed nearly.

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 20/10/2010 17:40

Just had a friend give me some nursing pads she had left over, saying 'Hopefully you'll need these soon'.
Haha sooner than she thinks [hsmile]

moomin156 · 20/10/2010 17:55

Can i ask a very non pregnancy related question.......i need ideas for a fancy dress party next week ...theme is 'blood sex and gore'..........want home made ideas. Thanks

IssyStark · 20/10/2010 18:03

Hi all!

I've been rather absent from mumsnet since my last miscarriage in the summer and then a difficult holiday with a group of friends over the summer which included two newborns which rather put me in a blue funk, but I'm back now with pregnancy #9, due around my 40th birthday on 22 June if it sticks Smile

I'm married to Nick and we have a lovely (even when tantrum throwing) son, Alex aka the Garklet, who will be four in December.

I'm under the care of Recurrent Miscarriage of the Princess Anne here in Southampton (that's the 'One born every minute' hospital for those who remember) and I'm also on a randomised controlled trial called Promise looking at the effect of progesterone supplementation on recurrent miscariers. If nothing else the outcome of this pregnancy may help future women who suffer from recurrent miscarriage even if I have to suffer crusty pants from the four pessaries I have to take daily Blush

cep · 20/10/2010 18:06

welcome again newbies, can't believe how many of us there are now.

Cuppa - why smoked salmon? my mw didn't say anything about avoiding that.

didn't realise that properly cooked eggs meant hard yolk as well, i thought it was just the white, i'm gutted i love soft boiled eggs they're my comfort food and i have to admit i was eating way too many of them.

tumtumgnu - forgive the ignorance but what is your temp supposed to be during pregnancy? didn't realise you could tell through that. i'm glad your pains reduced, and hope the bleeding does soon. fingers crossed for wednesday.

sasamaxx · 20/10/2010 18:09

moomin - oh no - poor you that sounds awful.

Mmmmm - blood, sex and gore - that sounds awfully like childbirth to me (with the sex bit having been 9 months previously) Grin
Don't suppose you can dress up as a woman in labour though...

How about a sexy bride of Dracula?

cep · 20/10/2010 18:10

hey Issystark, welcome and congratulations, sorry to hear about your previous miscarriages, fingers crossed for you.

I watched one born every minute. I think you're the nearest to me i'm in Fareham.
