Hello, after a bit of watching and wondering whether I was being premature I thought I'd join in.

Picked my nick-name because I am 38, started trying in July and was totally amazed to get pregnant this fast, baby is apparently due on 11 June but I think possibly earlier given the dates. Husband thinks he is Captain Fertile right now :)

The first thing that gave the game away was the super-boobs - if they keep growing at the rate they have in the last few weeks they'll be bigger than the bump but they are killing me :(

Just starting to feel a bit icky and today have a slightly dizzy feeling - I know feeling queasy is normal but what about the dizziness? I mean physically not mentally - but that has already begun I'm sure Wink

At what point did anyone else tell anyone? My big difficulty is hiding the not drinking - we went to a wedding at the weekend and I felt like Paul Daniels - there was lots of slight of hand involved and poor husband ended up sloshed as he kept getting my glass shoved in his direction when no-one was looking :o One of our friends already said I had a real glow about me - I said it was just a great new bronzer I'd bought!! Good fob-offs would be appreciated.

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 13:43

I am feeling slightly naseous now, though I wasn't when I woke up. Though I'm not sure if it's ms or withdrawal symptoms as I have decided to wean off my ADs.

I've also been having terrible headaches which I've just read is common in the 1st and 3rd trimester.

8rubberduckies can't you tell him if he's a close friend? Do people not tell literally anyone?? I've told my parents, DP obviously, my friend who's a student midwife, and 3 other close friends. DP is going to tell his mum soon as well I think. I just don't want to tell EVERYONE as it would make it so much harder is I did mc.

Wobblewatcher · 20/10/2010 13:44

Hi BTWQ

Dizziness is perfectly normal!!

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 13:47

Congrats blimey! Wish I ws glowing! [hgrin]

Yarnie · 20/10/2010 13:49

nurse sunshine We didn't tell anyone at all until after 12 week scan last time. I'm a private person and (hence broadcasting all my thoughts on here Confused) and wasn't sure how I would want to handle it if I had a MC.

This time, I am umming and ahing about telling my BFF who is also pregnant, after my scan next week (if all is well). If I wasn't having an early scan, no one would know until post-12 week scan.

CuppaMouldyBatBallsBrothJanice · 20/10/2010 13:53

Could somebody please explain what a chemical pregnancy is? I've seen it mentioned a few times now. Is it what used to be known as a 'phantom pregnancy'? MIL had one of these just before having DP - it was before the days of POAS tests so she thought she was pregnant with him for 11 months!!! Also somebody talked about having a 'molar pregnancy' and I've no idea what that means either Blush. This thread is educating me in so many ways!!!

Has anybody found any miracle cures for morning sickness? Mine is more a sort of stale feeling inside, rather than wanting to heave. I find if I breathe deeply and try to emit any trapped gases from either end Blush then it keeps it at bay. Probably wouldn't work for those poor souls spending the day with their heads down the toilet though. I'm still finding it impossible to clean my teeth without retching.

I'm craving cashew nuts - much healthier than the sherbet fountains I craved last time. Anybody else getting food cravings yet?

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 20/10/2010 13:58

I've told my parents a couple of bare faced lies in the last few days (No, nothing interestng going on here...), although my Mum does know that we're trying and about the CPs.
Not sure how long we'll manage to hold out not telling family and close friends, but everyone else will find an announcement in their christmas cards.

Thank goodness for MN eh?! Grin

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 14:02

cuppa my friend just reccommended arrowroot biscuits to me, and my mum reccommended anything with ginger in it.

8rubberduckies · 20/10/2010 14:12

Nurse I am just worried about telling people just yet as am so scared of a chemical pregnancy, as line has been pretty faint.

Cuppa a chemical pregnancy, as I understand it, is when the egg fertilised and you start pumping out the right pg hormones, but the egg never implants. There may still be hcg hanging around, hence why you may be getting faint lines on pregnancy tests, but you will eventually get a late period. Correct me if I'm wrong, those of you who are more knowledgable Smile. Molar pregancy I can't help you on sorry.

When pg with ds I found flight bands were a godsend, those wristbands you wear for travel sickness. I have started suffering a bit from nausea but nothing like I was last pregnancy yet! Will have to dig them out soon though probably!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 20/10/2010 14:12

Oh Cuppa I'm with you on the teeth cleaning. I took up eatting at leat 1 apple a day with DS so that my teeth got at least some attention. Am managing mouth wash at the moment though, so fingers crossed!

Peppermint tea got me though DS and ginger is good too.

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 14:22

OMG now I am petrified that it's a chemical pregnancy. How do you know? When do you get the late period? My lines were faint but looked online and read test instructions and they said that faint lines were more common the more HcG there was or something and you're still pg.

8rubberduckies · 20/10/2010 14:25

I don't think they're massively common nursesunshine, I didn't mean to scare you or anyone else! I suppose I have just heard of them more from being on the ttc threads so much this year, and am suffering from an acute bout of early-days paranoia Blush.

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 14:28

Roll on 12 week scan

moomin156 · 20/10/2010 14:40

nursesunshine are you actually late with your period, if so then it is unlikely to be a chemical pregnancy from my understanding. The pg tests are so sensitive these days and you can do them from a week before AF is due which is when it picks up the Hcg, but in reality the egg doesnt progress and implant improperly. If you have a missed period and a BFP then that is good news.
That is only my understanding though, the mners that have been through one should be able to tell you more

8rubberduckies · 20/10/2010 14:44

Moomin you explained it so much better than I did, the term " eventually get a late period" should really have read "get a period anything up to a few days late" I think. Blush

moomin156 · 20/10/2010 14:44

8rubberduckies tell him, you have been through so much already and it really wont hurt or change anything. i am sure he wont say anything to anyone else if you dont want him too and it does help to have someone to talk things through, cover for you, go to the bar etc without having to make dodgy excuses.
Go on do it.....you will feel so much better

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 14:44

OK, thanks moomin. yes haven't seen AF for a good 7weeks. I just can't believe that this is really happening to me and keep waiting for something to come and snatch it away from me. I'd rather be hanging over the toilet vomming all day than this uncertainty/disbelief. Am also awaer that stressing and being anxious is not healthy for baby so am stressing and being anxious about that too!

knackered76 · 20/10/2010 14:45

Only my DH and 1 friend know this time. The only reason I told my friend is that she was pregnant with me last time, one week I went in to have erpc (evacuation of retained products from conception . . . . . lovely name!) and the next she had a termination as her 12 wk scan showed unlikely to survive pregnancy :(. I wanted to tell her as she is the one likely to have a harder time dealing with it and might need time. Planning on keeping it secret as long as possible, even after 12wk scan, though might need to double up on some spanx!

NurseSunshine - the chances of all these bad things happening are really quite small. Reverse the statistic and it sounds better . . 20% chance of miscarriage means 80% chance of it not happening :)

Tolalola · 20/10/2010 14:55

Morning all. Sooooo sleepy today. DP got home from work last night and I said 'Ooh, I'm sooo tired!', to which he replied 'Shall we have people over for dinner tomorrow?' Grr. Grin

We just had a dinner party the night before last, and there was a lot of fiddling with a half full wine glass from me. I don't actually have any objection to having a glass or two a week, but seem to have gone right off it at the moment, which makes it easier. I'm missing caffeine dreadfully, though! Dying for a coffee.

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 14:58

Have you gone off coffee completely Tola? What about tea?

8rubberduckies · 20/10/2010 15:00

You're right moomin, I should tell him. I told anyone who would listen as soon as I found out at around 7 weeks last time, but just feel too scared that something is going to go wrong this time, maybe because we've so desperately wanted this pregnancy, whilst the last one was a happy accident! My best mate is off to Brazil for a month next week; I'm meeting her for lunch Monday so am going to tell her, as I will probably be showing by the time she gets back! I started showing early with the first, so think I'm just going to pop out of my jeans at about 6 weeks this time!!!!

Loujalou · 20/10/2010 15:03

I have been reliably informed that a CP is only when you don't get pass your RTD (Red Tide of Doom) if you get pass then its a "proper" pregnancy. Another reason not to early test IYSWIM. If you never took a HPT then you would have just thoght RTD was a just a bit late.

yellowtomato · 20/10/2010 15:10

Isabelle sorry to hear about the job hunting stress, hopefully you will still hear good news from the job interview, they might just be disorganised or a decision maker has been off sick etc.....

Are there many jobs around to apply for in your field at the moment? Maybe that is a stupid question and there are not many jobs in any field......Blush

i can imagine how difficult it is all day at home on your own and very difficult not to share your frustrations with your friends. Fingers crossed something will turn up for you soon.

Tolalola · 20/10/2010 15:10

Yes NurseSunshine, I'm trying really hard to give up caffeine completely, but am finding it much harder than giving up alcohol!

I'm not in the UK - do they not try to persuade you to give up caffeine there? I know guidelines are different everywhere, but if you lot are allowed it, then I'm falling off the wagon!

NurseSunshine · 20/10/2010 15:15

Where are you Tola? I have read different things but they all say that between 150mg and 300mg of caffeine a day are ok. So I'll either have a couple of cups of tea (approx 50mg each) or one weak-ass-watered-down filter coffee (about 100mg). I see it as still playing it safe but not going absolutely OTT. Same as anything though, do what feels right to you
