OMG - soooo excited for you mumsnerves Xmas Shock hope you're back in next to no time raving about how simple the whole thing was!!! :)

Halo according to my pregnancy app I am about to go through a weight gaining spurt!??! Personally, I thought I'd just had a growth spurt (bump-wise) but hey ho this is obviously the beginning of the weight gain for me! Am trying not to freak about it too much but find it difficult since I have always had weight issues in the past - I'm one of those people who is constantly on a diet basically! So letting it all go is hard, I was still drinking skimmed milk until not so long ago!

Crazybutterfly Thursday will be here in no time - bet you're so excited!! We have thought of names but still not sure, they are both quite boyish - Robyn or Charlie, keep thinking there are a million pretty girls names to pick and we are opting for boy ones!! However these are the only ones we can agree on just now, I really like Imogen but DP says it's a slutty name - god only knows why, I think it has something to do with the girl who was on Big Brother one year!! And he likes names like Katie and Rebecca, which I don't dislike but I just want something a little bit different, others we've bandied around are Erin, Phoebe, Olivia and Charlotte. I know - very diverse!!

addie81 · 15/12/2010 21:24

This is a shamefully belated post!!
Since my darling girl arrived I haven't had any time for MN. I thought I would share my experience with those who are still preggers, as I loved hearing birth stories when I was pregnant!
I was a week late, and had pre-eclampsia so went in to be induced. They gave me a new gel which they are using and left that for 24 hours, during which I had painful contractions but didn't dilate at all. They then gave me a pessary which continued the same effect - pain but no dilation. 12 hours after that they gave me another one. The contractions got much worse after that. Previously they had been like bad period pains. By about 6 hours after the second pessary the pain was agonising and I wasn't coping with it at all. I still wasn't dilating, but was having about 8 contractions every ten minutes - apparently this is uterine hyperstimulation and can happen with induction - wish they had told me that before they started.........
I couldn't have an epidural because I wasn't dilated so had a diamorphine injection which helped a lot. After another 6 hours or so I had started to dilate, so they broke my waters which were clear and gave me an epidural, which was utterly fabulous and I highly recommend it. Things continued for about another 10 hours after that. The CTG trace on my baby started to look suspicious. More amniotic fluid leaked out, and it had meconium staining in it. At that point, the medics were of the view that whilst both of these signs were potentially concerning, we could go on as we were for a few more hours to see what happened. My DH and I were really concerned, and said we would rather just have a c-section. Things continued to deteriorate and quite soon after that the consultant said he thought we should get the baby out asap, and I was rushed to theatre. OUr little girl was mercifully absolutely fine, and we have named her Gracie.
The whole thing was basically what I would have described as my worst case scenario prior to going into labour, but it was honestly fine, and I look back on it as a really positive experience. So long as your baby is ok you will be absolutely fine no matter what happens, so try not to worry too much about how you want your labour to go. I wanted no drugs, and no c-section, and I had both and it was all fine. Even an emergency c-section is really not that bad.
Best wishes to everyone else - I have really enjoyed sharing our journeys, but I have so little free time these days that I want to spend all of it with my husband and my baby so won't be coming on MN anymore.
Special best wishes to Fudgecat if she ever lurks here. xxxxx

highheelsandequations · 16/12/2010 16:39

addie thanks for sharing your story and congratulations. Gracie is a beautiful name. Glad it was a positive experience for you even though it wasn't quite as planned.

Had scan this afternoon and everything still looks good Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Little Pip measures 10+4 (a day off what I thought) and was waving little arms and legs about. DP is sorry he missed it but I'm very glad I went as actually feeling quite calm for the first time in weeks now. Don't know if I prefer the external scans to the internal though, more dignified certainly but driving and waiting with a full bladder is no fun! Unfortunately managed to hit someone's wing mirror on the way home and now have to find 130 quid to fix it but nevermind, still Xmas Smile

Going out to see the girls I used to do pole dancing with later this evening if I'm still awake, might share the news with them now everything looks okay (although I'm still a little superstitious). My instructor (who is also a friend) told them I had to drop out of our current course due to a shoulder injury as we needed to think of an excuse!

Friday tomorrow, hope everyone's okay and have lovely things planned for the weekend.

luckyseven · 16/12/2010 17:31

great news highheels def worth three santa smiles! Posting from bed as feeling a bit yuk after getting my swine flu jab yesterday. Due date is tom but according to midwife looks settled for another week! They have issued advice for all pg women to get the flu jab as there have been three women get it this week and another one in my hospital yesterday but to get it you have to ask for it. Just thought i should let you know it is still around as i was reluctant to get it but glad that i have. mumsnerves hope you are ok. I think someone else had an appointment today too?

haloflo · 16/12/2010 19:20

HH That's brilliant news! Hopefully your DP will make the NHS one when that comes through. Enjoy sharing your news if you chose to.

I found that maternity bras are rubbish. I have 2 t-shirt ones from M&S but they come up very high and also are a bit uncomfortable now my bumps is high up as the band is quite thick. I also have these ones. They are v comfy and don't come up too high but as they aren't t-shirt bras come up lumpy and bumpy under tight tops. Now my boobs are less sore it's nice to relax braless in my nightie at the end of the day Xmas Smile

lucky I had my jab and felt fine, sorry its affected you. I am also glad I had it. Are you having another scan soon did you say? Happy due date for tomorrow, hope LO isn't hanging on until Christmas day (unless that's what you want??)

aly Your baby shower sounds amazing but your pain does not. Glad you are feeling ok now. Just over a month to go for you then, seems like yesterday you got your BFP. Is there a reason they want to induce you early (like GD?)

mumsnerves I hope you are enjoying snuggles with your LO one. Can't wait for your update. I think I will go back to bump bands, good tip!

addie Thank you for your birth story. At 26 weeks I'm starting to occasionally think about the birth & despite everything that happened to you its brilliant to hear that you found it a positive experience.

crazy I hope the scan went well today and you are currently shopping for some cute baby clothes at Bluewater!

mrsw It's good that you like all those names although I guess it might be hard to narrow down. Our list is very short so far as DP likes nothing! After Christmas when things quieten down at work I am going to sit him down with the book and make him write down any he likes.

Since my post the other day I've made an effort to eat more fruit and veg and am feeling better about myself. Also my boots email said its likely I've gained 16 -22 pounds by 27 weeks. This sounds about right so that made me feel better. I will just have to keep chanting, "I am not fat, I am having a baby" during any low days and crazy I'm sure we will be super slim after breastfeeding and if not there's always magic knickers! Xmas Smile

I hope everyone else is well.

crazybutterflylady · 17/12/2010 14:39

Hi ladies, happy friday!!

addie thanks for sharing your story and being so ubeat despite it not being what you had planned. Very inspiring! I am trying to keep an open mind about the birth though I can't say I have thought about it too much hehe. I hope you're enjoying being a mum!!

mumnerves thinking about you - hope everything is going well!! Can't wait to hear from you.

luckyseven sorry to hear you're feeling ropey...it's quite good though because it's forcing you to rest before LO shows up! I think maybe s/he has been watching the weather forecast Xmas Wink

halo I wish my scan had been yesterday but sadly it's next Thursday - boohoo. Still, it will be a nice lead up to the festivities!! Wednesday will be my last day too because there's no point going in on Thursday after the scan and Friday is my wfh day, yay Xmas Grin Glad to hear you're feeling a bit more positive about the weight, I thik we just have to give ourselves over to it and worry about it when/if we have to later on.

mrsw I think you're better off only having a couple that you both like, should make things easier and I love both those names. Would you name her Charlotte or Charlie? We have a list of about 13 names we both like for each sex (!), we are planning to narrow it down when we find out which one to concentrate on and hopefully we'll have 3 or 4 we both really like and can use as a shortlist.

highheels SO happy for you, there's nothing like the first proper scan when you can see an actual baby! I'm really glad you're starting to feel a bit more confident and are enjoying things, you deserve nothing less my dear!

Hermya sooo cute hearing about DS and seeing the smily pictures... it amkes everything seem so real to see the end product of all this chatter hehe!!

I'm looking forward to next week and being off work for a bit and relaxing with the family before our move. I can't wait for the scan - just hope everything is ok! I had to go to the Dr today as I have been getting a reall achey leg and foot and Mr Crazy was stressing about DVT. Luckily it's just the weight of the bump and my legs adjusting to it, so I have to rest and keep an eye on it. God knows how I will be as time goes on!!

cherry btw - did you get those compression tights? I ordered some and they are SO tight on the bump, made me feel a bit yucky yesterday :( how did you get on with them??

xx

superpenguin · 17/12/2010 16:03

hello all!
I can't believe it is Christmas next week!
we might get our xmas tree & decorations out tonight if can be bothered. House is full of junk everywhere at the moment so goodness knows where we will put a tree though!

Pram update: After pondering how expensive they are for a while now we have decided to buy second-hand. I must confess - I have so far bought 3 prams off ebay... in varying conditions and the cheapest was only £5 - can't resist a bargain! One I paid £20 for and is in really good condition too. I may yet buy a few more, test them all out and then re-sell the ones I don't want.

General update: 29 weeks today! oh my gosh time is starting to fly now.
Had a bit of a saga at the weekend as I was away at a friend's house for the weekend (on my own without DH!) which is about 200 miles away and I got ill with some sort of tummy bug, (mild diarrhoea, painful stomach cramps / acid indigestion type pain, and loss of appetite) and of course I had left my notes at home. Anyway after speaking to a midwife on the phone they advised me to get checked out so spent 3 hours in the labour ward (!) at a strange hospital in a strange city, so they could confirm the problem really was only gastric/digestive and nothing to do with baby. They strapped me to a monitor and listened to baby's heartbeat for a whole hour and another monitor which is supposed to measure contractions (I wasn't having any!) and tested my BP, temperature and urine before concluding that everything was fine with baby and I just had gastro-itis (not sure of spelling) which is what I thought anyway all along. What a palava. Ended up spending an extra night at my friend's house before I felt well enough to drive home, and took 2 days off work sick, but am completely fine and better now.

Still got backache though, but now got an extra lumbar support for my chair at work which seems to help a bit, and am getting a back massage on monday from a midwife in my area who also does massage, yay!

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 18/12/2010 10:33

Super Gosh that must have been so scary, but I'm glad you're ok.

Crazy Are you going to be finding out what flavour your baby is? I bet you can't wait.

HH Brilliant news, do you feel like you can relax a little now? Pregnancy is a stressful time just by itself isn't it.

Lucky I've had it as well, it's not nice is it. But at the time I felt I didn't want that worry on top of everything else. If you've had your baby though and are breastfeeding you can consult with your GP and request it. The guidence notes on the jab do say this (read over the shoulder of the nurse in the surgery).

mumnerves · 18/12/2010 15:33

Hi all!
Just a quick update from me as am shattered, was up till 5 with my little man this morning :o
Everything went really well, was in active labour probably only for no more than 6 hours with just a tens machine and entonox. He is an 8lb 2.5lb cutie, dad and I are both smitten. Will update with full gory birth details soon and catch up as soon as I can. Take care everyone and have a lovely weekend!

Good luck lucky am thinking of you x

Congratulations mumsnerves am so happy for you & your family! Welcome to the world baby Sean Xmas Grin

luckyseven · 18/12/2010 19:29

wonderful news mumsnerves congratulations on baby sean. Hope you are adapting well to being a mum and am intrigued to know about your experience! I am feeling a wee bit like my period is due and have a bit of spotting. Not sure how meaningful it all is but am bouncing on the ball whilst watching strictly as it might help. Don t want to get my hopes up about having the little one before christmas but please send me some positive christmas baby vibes!

aly323 · 18/12/2010 22:58

Huge welcome to Sean!!! and huge hugs to Mumnerves! We're all anxiously awaiting your details, but understand that you just might want to spend a little time with baby right now. I'm so jealous, I wanna meet my little guy!

Addie, thanks for posting your birth story. I love your attitude about it all! A happy healthy baby really is what it's all about. Enjoy your time with Gracie and your DH!!

Halo, just thinking about the whole weight thing. Don't worry too much. Everyone gains differently. For me, I put on the most at the beginning, then slowed down. Now, I may be picking up again. If my gain from 9-15 weeks kept up, I would be the size of a house by now. I go back to the doctor again on Monday and am curious to see where I am now. My diabetes has really helped me to keep things in line- however, it is also the reason they may induce me. Placentas tend to peak (and then decline)earlier in diabetics.

Starting Monday, I'll go into the hospital twice a week. They'll do general checks and I'll have non-Stress tests. Believe it or not, I'm pretty excited since I'm going on leave and it'll be nice to check in with my little guy so often.
Also, I finally noticed my breasts leaking just a tiny bit. Funny how happy that made me.

bunnygirl80 · 18/12/2010 23:41

mumnerves congrats on the arrival of Sean. Can't wait to hear your birth story. Xmas Smile

Hope you pop soon lucky - there's still plenty of time for you to get your xmas baby Xmas Grin

halo don't worry about the weight gain - I was weighed the day I had Will and I'd gained a grand total of 26kgs from my pre-pg weight Xmas Shock I'd lost 15kgs by the time he was a week old, and I'm still losing a kilo a week now. I reckon at least 2kgs of the weight of got left is due to my ginormo-boobs Xmas Grin

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 19/12/2010 08:55

Congratulations Mumsnerves!!!

crazybutterflylady · 19/12/2010 10:37

Congratulations mumnerves, can't wait to hear all about the arrival of cute littleSean and see photos of him please Xmas Grin. I bet you are really looking foreard to your first Christmas as a family, hope you have a lovely one.

lucky sending you all the vibes I can muster! Good luck! Did you love Strictly? I was crying at the end, I am such a hormonal wreck Xmas Wink

Hermya I am going to find out yep... if the bean isn't having a shy day that is! I am really hoping everything is ok too, I feel like I have been concentrating on the scan for the wrong reasons, ie finding out the sex rather than checking everything is healthy and now I'm panicking slightly!!

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend x

highheelsandequations · 19/12/2010 12:16

Congratulations mumsnerves!!

OneOf8 · 20/12/2010 12:03

Hi all - congratulations to the new mums, and hope everyone else is doing fine! Things are looking up at work, so hoping to catch up with you all over the next few days as currently working from home to avoid work carrying over into next year!

Good luck to anyone having a scan prior to my proper catchup!

MrsWajs · 20/12/2010 12:39

Oooooohhhhhh congratulations mumsnerves :):):)

And lucky, I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed that you pop before Friday!!

Oh all these baba's are making me very excited and I'm not even due for another 4 months lol!!

Nowt much to say from me, back on nightshift tonight for another 4 nights and then am off for a week over Christmas then back on for New Year, not great but I wouldn't be going out anyway so might as well be earning the big bucks at work!

highheelsandequations · 20/12/2010 20:10

Finally got appointment for 12 week scan and booking appointment, Christmas eve! So fingers crossed everything will still be looking good and we'll have an extra special happy Christmas Xmas Smile

haloflo · 20/12/2010 20:51

Evening girls. I come with news!

luckyseven has my number from when I borrowed her CBFM and has just this minute text me just now to tell me about her arrival. She asked me to share it so I will type what the message says:

"when you are next frolicking could you let the girls know that Beth Elise arrived this morning and is the image of her dad. She was 8lb 4oz and melts my heart every time I look at her"

lucky I hope this was ok, I am so happy for you.

highheels Thats brillant news. Will be thinking of you Friday. What an amazing Christmas present!

crazy Best of luck Thursday, sorry about getting the weeks mixed up. Do not worry about the scan although it is natural too. Can't wait to hear if your bump is pink/blue.

MrsWajs · 21/12/2010 01:37

Awww halo that is lovely! Congratualtions lucky sounds like it all went well and quickly!!

highheels that's fab news, you'll have an amazing christmas now I bet :)

crazy also waiting with bated breath on news of your scan :) isn't it all so exciting!

MrsWajs · 21/12/2010 01:41

Wow just looked at the list and it's getting distinctly closer to nearer my turn!! I remember looking at it in the beginning and thinking it would take forever to get anywhere near the top!!

Have we heard from capricorn or homebound for a while??

bunnygirl80 · 21/12/2010 05:10

Congratulations lucky Xmas Grin

The arrivals list seems to be getting longer than the list of those still waiting....

superpenguin · 21/12/2010 11:16

Oh congratulations to mumnerves and luckyseven :) :)

cherrycobbler · 21/12/2010 11:38

ooooooh congrats to mumsnerves and lucky!! Can't wait to hear all about the births and new life as a mummy.

crazy you asked ages ago about compression stockings - I have some support tights from pebble.co.uk and tho they feel tight on they don't bother me hugely but they are a complete pain to get on. I have however invested in some knee high scholl medium support things - just like pop socks - and they are good for relieving the achiness and making me feel like I'm doing something about the 'orrible veins...

Had my 20 week scan this morning, super quick (like 15 minutes!) but all seems fine, phew. Baby was being shy so couldn't find out the flavour - really disappointed about that even though I know that I should just be really happy that the baby seems fine (which I am, if that makes sense?!). Good luck with yours on Thurs CB, hope babybutterfly is less shy than ours!
