crazydayz · 03/11/2010 11:43

Hi all,

I know I haven't posted for ages and ages but I do read the thread every day to see how you all are doing and keep up Smile.

I thought I was being a bit of a wet blanket as my symptoms of tiredness and vomiting felt dreadful and I didn't want to whinge as it being our first I thought that everyone else was handling it better than me!

Well we had our 12 week scan yesterday and it turns out that there are actually 2 in there!!!! Shock So I wasn't being a wuss after all.

We haven't come to terms with having twins at all yet but thought I'd better share my news!

WorrisomeHeart · 03/11/2010 11:47

crazydayz wow!! Congrats on the twins! I am a twin, and I can honestly say it's brilliant! I really miss my sister (she's in NZ) and we are really close. I'm so pleased for you - and it's about time this thread had a multiple birth!! You may have already done this, but have a look at the TAMBA website - will help to have a great support network around you!

Argh, Lochie stirring, will post more later.

crazybutterflylady · 03/11/2010 11:47

Shock OMG crazy Shock

Do you have twins in the family? That's so exciting!!!!xx

pixiestix · 03/11/2010 12:33

Wow, Crazydayz!!! Our first Frolicker twins!!!! Congratulations! Do they know if they are from the same egg or seperate ones? Oooooh - How exciting! Smile Smile SmileSmile

OneOf8 · 03/11/2010 12:45

Big congrats to HighHeels!

Crazydayz - woo hoo - 1st of the multiples! We know someone who had identical twin boys - did they say if your were identical or twins (sorry not sure what the other type are called!)

CrazyB my OH and I make the "fart" noise we people bend over on TV. Is great being immature!

Mumnerves a bit Envy you are on Mat leave now - I have ages till proper leave starts (although do finish the 2nd job soon!) Am really feeling pooh this week. Think I have a slight cold, but where I'd normally pop cold and flu pills like candy, mixed with a few ibuprofen to be sure - I am suffering. Cant moan to loudly, as have the option of hiding in bed but still chose to come in!

Yorkshire Hope you are doing well - will be excitedly awaiting your news!

Bunny bit disappointing about the physio. Not sure how these people get to claim they are specialist/experts!!

Loved the baby pictures - hope ours is as adorable!

Going to slope off now, and hug a cup of hot chocolate to warm up! Hi to everyone else!

cherrycobbler · 03/11/2010 12:58

just a very quick post to say WOW at your news crazyd!!!! that is soooo exciting!! DH is a twin and its lovely. His mum absolutely loved being the mum of twins too. What a shock! Hope you do feel a bit better soon though - I can't imagine being 2x tired/ sick, so you have my full sympathy!

HRHCavey · 03/11/2010 13:31

[pokes head round the door]

Congrats on the double-y good news crazydayz. My mum is an identical twin and has lots of fun twin stories about her and her sister.

Truffkin · 03/11/2010 13:41

Just popping in from the Frolickers thread to say wow to CrazyDayz Grin How exciting, hope it sinks in soon so you can enjoy the idea!

Hermya321 · 03/11/2010 14:02

Crazy See you're not a wimp, you had two of the LO's in there!! But BIG congratulations!! My friend has twin boys (and a toddler) and they're lovely, albeit a bit of a handful but she seems to revel in it.

We had the MW round today and DS was weighed and he's back up to his birth weight already Shock. I'm glad someone is feeling the benefit of all those sleepless nights. Grin

MissFlick · 03/11/2010 15:40

Wow crazydayz!! That is amazing news :) I have been thinking about you recently so am so glad all is well. Did you have any inkling or was it a complete shock?! Lots of love to all of you lovely grads. X x x

WhiteRoses · 03/11/2010 16:07

Quick post cause I've just done a HUGE (even by my standards!) one on the parents thread Blush

Worrisome - I have considered expressing, and actually asked the dietician about it, bcause I thought it might be a good idea to know for sure exactly how much protein LO is currently getting. However, in spite of that benefit, she advised against it, because it could result in my milk supply drying up, because pumping doesn't give the same stimulation as baby. Fine for the odd time, but overall, she reckoned better to stick to normal way if possible. And to be honest, I'm happy with that. Out and about, it's so much easier just to whip a boob out. Nice and instant, no messing about.

Bunny - sorry physio wasn't more helpful. :(

Yorkshire - Grin - hope it all speeds up for you now and you soon have your LO in your arms. Grin

mumnerves - good to see you back - with a post in length worthy of me! Wink

Crazydayz - don't think we ever really met properly but massive congratulations! No wonder you're in shock! Grin

Hermya - great news about Asher's weight. :) You're obviously doing something right! :)

WhiteRoses · 03/11/2010 16:09

P.S. - sorry to all I've missed - hope you're all doing okay. :) And Worrisome - I STILL can't get in to see your picture... :( Will try to give it a go later on DH's laptop.

highheelsandequations · 03/11/2010 16:13

Wow Crazydayz, exciting news! Congratulations :)

crazydayz · 03/11/2010 16:18

Thank you for all your kind comments ladies - you're beginning to help me over the shock.

CrazyB There are no twins in either of our families so a massive shocker! [Grin]

They think they are non-identical but can't be 100% sure because if they are then they both have anterior placentas making them a bit difficult assess properly.

Flick It was a complete shock - I cried a lot! Blush

Worrisome Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the TAMBA website - looks like just what I need to get my head round the crazy but happy news!

DH is beginning to come round to the idea I think and is walking around with a grin on his face now rather than the shocked and dazed expression that he wore all night last night!

highheelsandequations · 03/11/2010 17:01

crazy thanks for the reassurance :)

Warning, paranoid post with lots of questions!

Can I ask you lovely ladies when you started getting pg symptoms? Still in the disbelieving phase, have so far peed on 4 'proper' tests and about 12 internet cheapies. Have my other CB digi that I'm thinking of breaking open tomorrow morning. Even DP has started asking if I've been peeing on sticks after I come back from the bathroom!

Also have become paranoid about herbal tea and stopped drinking any of it after reading too many conflicting articles (bloody internet!). I was drinking ginger, nettle and fennel and others occaisionally. Have checked the manufacturers website and it states that they're safe to drink in pregnancy but am still worried! Confused Has anyone asked a medical person?

And who did what in terms of exercise in the first trimester? I have stopped all my classes until checking with the doctor but curious as to what others have done.

At this rate I'm going to be a gibbering wreck at the end of 9 months :o

haloflo · 03/11/2010 17:42

Afternoon all!

crazydayzbabytimes2 Wow!! What an amazing shock. Are your symptoms still really bad? I hope you are starting to feel better. When's your EDD for the LO's?

Yorkshire Looking forward to your news, I hope all goes well.

worrisome Congrats ! What an ordeal, I bet you are glad to be home. Hope your recovery is quick.

highheels! Many congrats! I hope this is the start of a BFP flurry! I know how worried you feel as I was the same. My only advice was to take each day at a time and try to keep busy.

I don't know about herbal tea but there is nothing in my official NHS notes. I drank alot of Rooibos in the first trimester as I went off normal tea and coffee and I think that was ok. Ginger tea is probably recommended as it supposedly helps with nausea.

With exercise I used to run but found it made me sick otherwise I think you can continue as normal if you can. Gentle exercise is recommended in pregnancy. Be careful with weights and stretching though as your joints are starting to relax and it's easy to hurt yourself . Best thing would be to have a quiet word with your instructor when you are ready and see what they say. Remember loads of people don't find out as early as us and they would
continue as normal with no harm to the LO.

My symptoms probably started about 5 weeks (tiredness, mild nausea, v sore boobs) and kept getting stronger until about 10 weeks when they slowly got better. I spent weeks boob prodding just to check things were still going as they should!

Good luck in the scan next week. Will you get a few early scans with your FC? If not you want to hold on to 7 weeks? At 7 weeks they can see a heartbeat which means that your mc rate drops.

Waves to all. xx

Thanks for the good vibes for me tomorrow. Am really nervous for the scan. Sorry to those I missed, my concentration is rubbish today.

cherrycobbler · 03/11/2010 17:52

won't be able to pop in till late afternoon tomorrow so just wanted to say masses of luck for the scan tomorrow halo, will be thinking of you.

highheels I had no symptoms till about six weeks, when I felt a bit tired and a bit sick and my boobs were huge, and then from seven weeks till now complete exhaustion and constant nausea/ vomiting hit. I only stopped POAS'ing about then! Re: the timing of your scan, you might want to call the FC and tell them you think your dates are out and ask what they suggest? We had an early private one at 8 weeks and although it felt like ages before we knew it was real, I'm glad we waited as by that time you could def hear a heartbeat and know that the m/c rate had dropped. And then the four weeks till the 12 week scan didn't feel like such an eternity. But it is a very personal thing so what felt right for us won't necessarily be right for you and MrHH :)

Hermya321 · 03/11/2010 19:32

Highheels The only herbal tea I was told to avoid was rasberry leaf tea. I suspect all others are fair game otherwise they'd have it printed on the box (my stack of RLT does). I did running, pilaties and swimming early on in pregnancy. The only reason I stopped was because of SPD. From what I've read you can carry on as normal for the most part, just make sure you're drinking lots of water. If you do feel concerned, have a word with your Doctor or you can give the antenatel ward a ring. For the most part they'll always do their best to answer your questions over the phone.

OP posts:
highheelsandequations · 03/11/2010 20:09

Thanks for the advice ladies. Did phone the clinic back and they said they're happy for me to still have the scan, and they'll book me in for another a week or 2 later if they can't see anything. For once I am really glad to have been going through fertility treatment!

Halo good luck for the scan tomorrow.

Hermya what is SPD? Am I being thick?

luckyseven · 03/11/2010 20:49

Just nipping in quickly as our house is upside down and we are still trying to make ikea wardrobes!

halo all the best for tomorrow, let us know how you go!

crazydayz i am just delighted about your twin news - so exciting. I just loved the idea of twins, for me it would be instant family and one birth. I am also a wee bit obsessed by multiple births, i used to love hearing about the Walton sextuplets!

highheels so you thought the two week wait was bad for symptom spotting? Yep first few weeks of being pg are nerve racking. From what I remember I was still getting mild period pain like cramps for a week or so after bfp then nothing then sore boobs, a bit of constipation and hugely bloated and sea sick around week 7 with the nausea and tiredness continuing to about 14 weeks and then super energy burst. Starting to slow a bit now at nearky 34 weeks but can't complain. I was doing a dance class called Zumba when i was first pg and gp hit the roof and told me to stop, i then started pg yoga at 14 weeks and it wasn't bad but no longer go to a class and just do a video. Not sure if you should go to your class without ringing the doc or midwife to confirm it is ok. I drank peppermint tea as like halo i went off tea and coffee and wanted to restrict my caffeine intake.

yorkshire looking forward to hearing your news!

oneof8 speaking of fart noises I swear one came from my bump, i googled it, naturally and other women have reported similar noises - has anyone else experienced this, it was wierd!

bunny in our house if anyone is likely to get stuck into the hospital snacks it is me - I can't buy biscuits as i can't stop at one!

Was at a check up yesterday and have been confirmed as having carpal tunnel syndrome mostly in my right hand, it is quite debilitating when it is bad but I am coping and i was given some poas strips to check protein every day that the swelling is not going to be pre eclampsia.

Parenting class was fine and just confirmed what i had already read. dh behaved himself, i kind of forget that we are idiots with each other behind closed doors but pretty sensible in real life. I have realised that i have to stop thinking i will have the baby by Christmas and prepare myself for going overdue. a date of birth of 1/1/11 is remotely possible for me.

I also found out that I can opt for the home from home active birth suite where you can have a water birth, gas and air and pethidine if required and change up to the labour ward to get remyfentinol if I want (it is a drug offered at my hospital that i have had described to me as like a night out on the magners and you are in control of how much you get and it doesn't pass to the baby as much as pethidine)

Right off to help finish the wardrobes, put one more coat of paint on the new front door and hang my upcycled mirror in what will be the nursery!

hi to the new mums, please keep hanging around and telling us tales from the other side!

Hermya321 · 03/11/2010 21:43

Highheels Sorry SPD is synthesis public dysfunction otherwise known as pelvic girdle pain. It's something that can happen in pregnancy where by when the hormone relaxin starts getting released to soften your ligaments it softens your ligaments too much and you can get pain. It mainly affects the pubic joint and you get pain when walking and when you spread your legs apart. I had it during pregnancy and it was quite painful and was made worse by excercise so I had to stop.

By the way if anyone is having symptons or if I have missed anyone who has SPD on here. It really does go away after you've given birth. I've had no pain whatsoever. My plan to find a suitable space to do a cartwheel in remains intact but delayed due to the stiches Grin.

OP posts:
bunnygirl80 · 03/11/2010 21:52

crazydayz congrats on the twins. At least now you know why you've been feeling so awful.

mumnerves yay for starting mat leave.

highheels I think the advice about exercise in the first trimester is pretty conflicting. My GP said that it was fine to carry on with whatever I'd been doing before as long as I didn't get too hot or keep going to the point of total exhaustion. I played netball until I was 20 weeks, I just made sure I took regular breaks and drank lots of water

lucky good luck with your furniture building Smile

I'm off to do the housework in preparation for the PILs arrival on Saturday. They're staying for 4 months Shock - thankfully they've rented and apartment down the road from us so they won't actually be in our house when LO arrives.

Bellaby · 03/11/2010 22:05

crazydayz that is so exciting about the twins and the first time for the Frollickers!

crazyb I had my first yoga class tonight and thought about you when the instructor started talking about the various bits!! Enjoyed the class a lot just a shame it's only once a week

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 04/11/2010 00:59

Just popping in between contractions to give a quick update. Still at home, still having contractions, still no where near giving birth apparently. Started with regular contractions last night (Tuesday) at about 6.00pm. Fairly short, 10 minutes apart, disappeared completely for a while overnight, enabling me to get a bit of sleep. Back on again from 4.00am to about 1.30pm today, again slowed up and I was able to get some sleep. Back on again from about 5.00pm this evening (Wed) and have been building in volume and intensity ever since.

However, spoke to the hospital at 10.30pm and the midwife told me I haven't been in labour that long, cos if it stops it not labour (I did say early labour - I thought that's what you called regular contrations!). It made me seriously disheartened - like all the hard work I've been putting in for the past day doesn't count!! Sad

However, since I sent DH to bed and started updating facebook and MN, the displacement activity seems to be working and I'm getting business-like contractions again. Hoping to string together a series of useful contractions over the next hour or so, then I might be able to consider going into hospital. Smile Been roughly 6 minutes apart for the last hour. Once they get down to 4 minutes apart I can go in. Feeling fine between contractions (TENS machine cutting the mustard so far) but getting a bit alot painful during contractions. Also very tired on account of my 24 hours of non labour! I really hope that this time the build up will continue and my next post will be to announce the arrival of little YTD. :)

MissFlick · 04/11/2010 02:06

Go yorkshire Go! Fingers crossed that the contractions stay put and that you are very soon on your way to the hospital to meet your baby.

Good luck for the scan today flo- I'll pop back later for news xxx
