I would have a think about Eurostar as well. Lots of places you could get the train to as well. Not just the obvious stops, you can get a high speed train from Paris/Brussels/etc to nearly anywhere you could think of. Giving you the option of a little rail trip if you're worried about getting bored in one place. MrM and I went to Paris for a long weekend and then on to Lyon for the rest of the week a while ago. It was lovely.

Am slightly jealous, as me and TYF are planning our glamorous day trip to YORK for next week (he got shafted on normal summer holiday weeks off at work). We're also going to push the boat out and go to SALTAIRE! Can you all handle the glitzy extravagance of it all, daahlinks? We might even go to HARROGATE, but fear that might be going a bit crazy.

Have slight feeling we might not be in same economic bracket as everyone else here Sad Blush Envy

Mind you, at the moment I feel too rough to walk round the corner to the supermarket, so couldn't handle anything action-packed.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 20/09/2010 12:46

But Scorps you get to go to Betty's for cake! Possibly in York and Harrogate! Life doesn't get much better than that!

Mmm....maybe I should bake a cake later......

PollyPoo · 20/09/2010 12:47

I'm with you scorps - a day trip to fucking Waitrose is out of my league at the mo! The only reason we have holidays is because they are freebie caravan ones, courtesy of family. Grin [pikey emoticon]

Drom I third the heat thing - I could not stand being in the sun when in second half of diffing with Boo. Made me extremely irritable. No really! I know you can't imagine it. Wink

Silv sorry to hear you are so uncomfortable. Tis miserable. Do you know a good chiro/osteo person? Or someone who can recommend? GP will prob refer you to physio, but I have never found that much cop tbh. Horses for courses though - may be worth a try?

PerfectDromedary · 20/09/2010 12:56

I heart Betty's. Have just been looking at a hotel in Harrogate purely because I could eat cake in Betty's if we go there on hollibobs at Christmas.

PollyPoo · 20/09/2010 13:06

Mmmm cake....

Rots I may be interested in pool - have you got link to t'internet info? So I can check out sizes etc? Am still waiting for TG to get involved in the decision making - not sure whether to hire or buy. As TG is the one who will a) pay for it and b) have to assemble and fill said pool, you'd think he'd want some input. I don't much care either way - as long as it is clean and hot and I can fit in it (am 5'10' so hoping that I won't end up with something with no room to move).

Scorpette · 20/09/2010 13:06

But I can't eat cake! Sad Ah fuck it, will just be lovely to have whole week of TYF to myself. We're boring as fuck but we're happy.

OkieCokie · 20/09/2010 13:15

I get to go away a lot but it is mainly for work which is shite and something that I won?t have to do for quite some time. Our family holidays are not as exotic as they once were pre child. In fact I even started talking about taking my parents on our next one for the extra help and the look on Mr C face was hilarious. I think it is a perfectly reasonable suggestion (oh how things change!), now going with his parents would be an entirely different matter and not one I would ever take on board!

rollerbaby · 20/09/2010 13:48

Lots of stuff to catch up on here...

scorps twinges might be to do with your corpus luteum . The only reason I know this is because I got scanned at 5 weeks and something or other days and the sonographer showed me the ovary and corpus luteum that little moo had come out of. This basically supplies blood to them until the placenta takes over. Or something like that. Anyway I do remember her asking if I had felt anything cos some people do and sometimes they can even swell up a bit. So I wouldn't worry. Sounds like good news if you are feeling sick and the hormones are raging.

drom my one criteria would be - make sure they have a fucking comfortable bed. No point paying out to go to some where fab and being really miserable in the middle of the night. I learnt this in Whitstable which was loverly and just what I needed, but my god I was aching for my own bed by the end of the week. I echo the others, hot is just not brilliant when you are large, can't get up easily to jump in and out of a pool etc. It made me feel a bit weak and funny back in July when we had our UK heatwave. And this is coming from someone who used to be a right tanorexic.

scorps cake in harrogate sounds ace. I've always wanted to go to Bettys!

okie I once went on eurostar. Got really pissed on the way to paris, ended up out in the leftbank being followed by weird frenchies on the friday night and then had a hangover for half of the weekend. Oh those were the days.

VAG why don't you bake or knit peut etre, in between downward dog poses? :)

silver sounds like you've over stretched your pelvic ligaments sitting astride chair. Be careful, cos it takes ages for the inflammation to settle - I would know. Lots of stretching and take it easy now or else you;ll make it worse.

I had shitty shitty nights sleep last night. Up and down like a fucking yo yo and baby kicking REALLY HARD. This is a new thing. I feel like the next 5 weeks and 6 days are going to ramp up now.

Have holes in my only pair of (pre preggo) leggings, topshop mat Tshirts don't cover the bottom of my bump and jeans are now too uncomfy. I feel like a right chav in my faded tracky bums and tight t shirt. Can't be arsed to buy any more clothes for the sake of 6 weeks but WTF am I meant to wear? I spose I should get some lounge wear but am being really tight in anticipation of hideous lack of funds. Hey ho, I will be a scummy mummy.

OkieCokie · 20/09/2010 14:04

I was thinking about the clothes issue too moo. My maternity jeans are just not cutting it anymore as they are below bump and I really do prefer trousers over bump. I walk about fearing that my tum tum may be peering out over top of jeans and under bottom of t-shirt. Was thinking why bother buying new but I recall being in mat jeans for some time post birth so it still may be worth it.

rollerbaby · 20/09/2010 14:11

I was sort of hoping I might shed a teeny weeny bit of tum 'n' arse post birth which would make jeans more comfy, but I fear that baggy trousers are the way forward. I'm thinking essential stuff to get now includes:

Leggings x 2
Tops that can also double as feeding ones
2 x bravado nursing bras (cheaper online than in pretty preggers by £10!)

Have got posh family party next sunday and wanted to look fabulous and glowing. But no I fear hot and fat will be the look du jour.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 20/09/2010 15:12

Heat is vile. 38 the day I had Bear... that's cool for Dubai. I'd go to Israel mind... trust the medics there!

ChoChoSan · 20/09/2010 17:37

Hello loveleez...fanks for all your lovely posts about my now-wriggling baybee...I had to post and run on friday, and have only been catching up by phone'ternet.

Scorps - I was panicking on here about freaky left hand side constant soreness around week 7, but it abated, and just returns every now and then for a day or so - think it's stretchy wimbledon common. Glad you are feeling better.

Drom if you are staying in the UK, how about somewhere like Babington House near Bath, or Calcott Manor in Tetbury? Both have spas...and Calcott Manor has an outdoor hot tub which is de-vine in the winter. babington House has a pool, but not sure if suitable for winter swims.

rollerbaby · 20/09/2010 17:55

On a recommendation front, does anyone have suggestions for a 40th wedding anniversary present (my m&d)? I cannot for the life of me think of anything original.

ginhag · 20/09/2010 18:58

Babington has indoor pool. Is lush.

Muser · 20/09/2010 19:01

What's your budget moo?

Going back to work today was not fun. Really busy. Have a thumping headache now. Waiting for the paracetamol to kick in.

OP posts:
SilverSky · 20/09/2010 19:06

Babington House is tres divine. Have been there for a wedding. Totally love the place.

Fanks for all the advice. Fink I have shagged my muscles sitting on that bloody chair. Will try the piles thing. I keep waking up on my back. Plus last night was a two wee job and I woke HI up. Well I did nearly break my frigging neck on the cushions he left on the floor. So serves him right.

Just four weeks to go laydees. Assuming I am on time. Still not packed my bag or the baybee's bag.

In terms of Hollibobs - I reckon UK cos if you are like me I would hate not to take full advantage of a sun break cos my bod and brain won't let me.

Still not written my birthing plan or as NCT say "birthing hopes" as best to keep open mind. Quick q' if you want to wait for the cord to stop pulsating before being cut does that mean you have to forgo the managed third stage? This week it's the women only sesh where I guess we talk about rips and tears and sex after birth non??

CluckyKate · 20/09/2010 19:39

Oooh - we didn't have a wimmin only sesh Silver but blokes didn't have to participate in the breast-feeding bit. The rips & tears bit was for everyone, although they kept details pretty sketchy.

We went to France when I was 34 weeks last time - blimmin' uncomfortable on the ferry, ditto in the car, gite furniture also not up to scratch in the comfort stakes either so actually wished I hadn't bothered & stayed somewhere closer to home [miserable git emoticon]

I has news - had 20 week scan today & am having a boy!!! Is 98% certain so MrCluck is v. proud Grin. All is well and v. average (50th centile for all measurements) so feeling pleased as punch Grin Grin

Cho-girl you must be due a scan soon too??? What news???

PollyPoo · 20/09/2010 19:43

Congrats Clucky, brilliant news!! Yet another boy!

Of those who are due a 20wk scan soon, do you want to know the sex? I didn't want to know, but seem to be in the minority. Just wondered what your thoughts are.

rollerbaby · 20/09/2010 19:48

Fabulous news clucky - another boy! I think these things are fairly certain non? I will be in major trouble if not, having bought everything in boyish tones.

silver in hippobirthing book they call it preference sheet! Ha ha bloody ha. "I would prefer to sleep through my labour thank you very much".

Muser budget is probably not too much more than £100-150, although I could probably get brother to go halves and get something more lavish. Any ideas v v gratefully received. My mind is way too focussed on all the stuff I need to do in preggo leave. I couldn't even fall asleep to hippo cd last night - that is bad.

I would LOVE to go to babington house you bastards. :)

rollerbaby · 20/09/2010 19:51

pollo I found it v bonding knowing it was a little boy in my tum tum, but that is just me. Also wanted to go to town on the shopping and not necessarily buy acres of yellow and white. I think I have succeeded in buying more than the little monkey can possibly wear. Have now assembled 3 giant piles of washing to be done.

SilverSky · 20/09/2010 19:52

We do not know sex!! I do like a surprise!! Is causing lots of good baybee name discussions. Finding it soooo hard to agree on a boys name. Better be a girl eh!

When I finish work I will be mainly wearing tracky bottoms and slouchy tops. There will be limited social life cos I will have no clothesto wear!

organiccarrotcake · 20/09/2010 20:05

silver no, you can have a managed 3rd stage and wait for the cord to be cut, too, or even go completely lavender about it (no let's not go there).

pol www.madeinwater.co.uk/

What I have includes: pool, pump to empty the water out, heat cover (to keep water hot), instructions. It has an inflatable floor as well as sides which makes it more comfortable and to help keep the water warm.

What it doesn't include is a pump to inflate it but it's got the same sort of valve as an airbed.

organiccarrotcake · 20/09/2010 20:12

silver I have a problem :(

Despite much searching I absolutely cannot find the pump for the ball. I'm so sorry. It will turn up but if you want one I recommend not waiting for me as it may need a garage clear-out to find it.

I'm really, really sorry :(

mrsfc didn't make post office today but have packed up everything for dispatch tomorrow.

PollyPoo · 20/09/2010 20:24

Ooh that looks fab Rots - does it have the tap connectors/hose pipe? Just looking at the website and there seem to be a few different options.
