Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Celia76 · 26/09/2010 16:23

Can I join the Feb 2011 group please?!

I'm 34 and expecting DC3 on 28th Feb. Currently have DS1 5 1/2, and DS2 3.

I've had two sections so will definitely have a third probably at around 39 weeks!

Good to 'meet' you all!

ledkr · 26/09/2010 16:30

HI Celia its nice to have you join us as i have to have a c section after 3 previous and i dont think there are many others on this thread who are. I will have mine in last week of jan so will be able to give you the lowdown before you go in.
I am guessing it will be much like before but am getting a bit worried as it gets closer cos ive had so many.

ledkr · 26/09/2010 16:39

hubbard or anyone else. Is it worth a referral for the spd? Last time physio said the could do sweet fa so i went to and osteopath at great cost but it was very helpfull. Are the nhs taking it anymore seriously now? Do they actually do anything?Would like to avoid expensive osteopath if poss.I can be pain free after a rest then comes on bad if i walk.:(

smallblackflowers · 26/09/2010 17:05

knitta we sort of co-slept with DD - DH built a crib that attached to our bed with our mattresses at the same level, and I pulled her across to feed and put her back afterwards (some of the time if I hadn't dropped off). She was always in her grobag and I just ensured that I tucked my duvet around my waist and wore a cardi to bed to keep my arms warm. It instinctively felt like the right thing to do - I guess that this type of sleeping is what our primordial ancestors did and what we are designed to do. I will definitely be doing the same again with #2.

Celia welcome Smile

ledkr my NHS physio actually realigned my pelvis with gentle manipulation last time round, as well as the standard instructions to do pelvic floor exercises. The effects lasted a while and I was told that I could go back any time to be realigned again if needed. It was actually pretty close to the birth so I didn't end up going back, but hoping to get to them earlier this time.

EauRouge · 26/09/2010 17:06

knittakid, yes we were/are bedsharers. DD spent the first night in her moses basket but neither one of us really slept. My mum gave me the idea to bedshare, she did with both me and my brother and said it was lovely. If you're not happy with bedsharing then a sidecar cot is another option, we've rigged one up now because DD started sleeping sideways and there wasn't enough room Grin She'll be going into her own room soon :( I got a really helpful LLL leaflet about co-sleeping when I left the hospital after DD was born.

Celia congrats and welcome! :)

suzym1984 · 26/09/2010 17:21

Thanks everyone for the advice about baby bedding, there just seems to be so much stuff in the shops and I get all confused!

I have bought a couple of cellular blankets today and I fancy a swaddle pod, just cos they look cute Grin.

Oh, and the nursery looks lovely in Primrose colour. Cant wait to get all the baby stuff set up in there now!

knittakid · 26/09/2010 17:26

Thank you all, my main worry is the duvet, as they say you shouldn't have one on the bed when bedsharing. I guess you solution worked SBF.
Did you also have something on the side of the bed or did they sleep in between the two of you?

I know it is not that common now, but as you say, surely it is the way it has always been done... I just don't see myself feeling it is 'safe' being too far away from the little thing.

DH also thought perhaps one of those electric blankets that go under the bedsheet would make it warm enough for us to have just a blanket on top? is this a bad idea?

Welcome celia

knittakid · 26/09/2010 17:29

Oh just saw that tonight they are showing Juno, which if you not have seen it's very good, not at all what you expect from a teenage pregnancy film, and realy funny.

EauRouge · 26/09/2010 17:51

Electric blankets are a no-no due to potential boob and nappy leakage. I used a duvet, just up to my waist as sbf did, and then a cellular blanket over the two of us or just over DD depending on what pyjamas I was wearing, how cold it was etc.

Bedsharing is more common than you think Wink but a lot of parents don't own up to it due to twatty unwanted 'rod for your own back' type comments. I was never shy about it and found that a lot of mums quietly owned up to doing the same thing from time to time. I think it's actually better to plan it because you'll be more prepared from a safety point of view.

You might want to read what Dr Sears says about it (he was the one that talked my mum into it!), it will give you a few ideas about safety aspects, benefits and general logistics. www.askdrsears.com/html/7/T071000.asp

EauRouge · 26/09/2010 17:52

Just to add that Dr Sears is like all baby experts- just take what you need and ignore what you don't like Grin

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/09/2010 18:23

We bedshared (either part of the night or all night) from 3.5 months with DS (having reached end of tether over sleep) and from birth with DD (it having worked first time round).

What we do is for DH and I to each have our own duvet, which we wrap tightly around ourselves so the baby doesn't risk getting covered, then have the baby in a Grobag and clothing to keep him/her at the right temperature. It works pretty well.

Wanderingsheep · 26/09/2010 18:49

Do you put the baby in the middle or at the side?

Welcome Celia. Smile

Celia76 · 26/09/2010 20:24

Thanks for the welcome!

Ledkr - I'm a bit apprehensive about another section too. Luckily it'll be done by the same consultant who delivered my boys, and I have absolute faith in him but I found recovery from the second much harder than the first (which was a super quick, pain free return to normal within a couple of days), so what will a 3rd be like?!

Hope everyone doing well, and those of us off to work tomorrow have a nice quiet day!

ledkr · 26/09/2010 20:49

Celia. I found my last one easier I think. i was awake but asleep with other two so don't know if it was that. bit worried today as have spd and normally fab dh just can't seem to grasp how painful it is and spent hrs on ps3 whilst I cooked a roast did ironing and helped dd with homework. admit i was being a martyr but am now thinking is he going to be same with c section! told him not to talk to me until hes looked up spd on net!

I tried to arrange the biggest patch of sleep with the baby in the middle (once he/she could roll, anyway) but I would sleep with arm on baby side out perpendicular to my body, then bent through 90 degrees at the elbow, so the baby would sleep effectively in the crook of my elbow on either side and would be pretty secure either way. But then DH doesn't roll or thrash around much in his sleep (and we have a superking bed) so I don't worry about him in relation to the baby. I guess with a different DH and/or a different bed we might have arrived at a different arrangement.

Mostly (and certainly once the baby can roll) we put him/her down in a cot (or Amby baby hammock, which is what we used for DD and will use again this time up to 9-10 months) at the start of the night and move him/her in with us when he/she wakes up after our bedtime.

hubbard86 · 27/09/2010 00:25

ledkr midwife wouldn't refer me as pain was likely to be with my size than spd and would be a waste of resources. I had spd last time and was on crutches for short distances and wheelchair for longer periods as it was so painful. Wanted some advice on what i could do to avoid being a cripple with a 2yr old to run around with. Instead i just get told i'm too fat (such lovely midwives in wolverhampton ) hopefully will have more luck with nice gp. Can't really afford an osteopath.

Don't know if i'm having a c section or a vbac yet. If i get gd again will probably have another section as induction after section holds more risks for rupture than natural vbac. Won't find out till 28wks if i'm in the clear or not

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/09/2010 00:45

I had GD last time and still a VBAC -- no one even suggested induction or not letting me go to term (well, I think the sonographer doing my growth scan predicted that the consultant wouldn't be happy letting me go overdue, but the consultants didn't actually seem to have a problem with it). But mine was well-controlled with diet and I didn't need insulin, which I know makes a difference to how happy they are on delivery dates.

But then they just assume I have GD again this time and I don't even get screened for it. Humph.

I think a good specialist physio can help with SPD, but there seem to be a lot of useless ones out there (and obviously a limit to how much they can do).

TallulahBelly14 · 27/09/2010 09:55

Morning ladies, hope everyone had a marvellous weekend?

Suzy, will you be posting the after pictures from your nursery redecoration? Ours is still being used to house junk after our move, and it might be good inspiration!

We had our scan on Friday, and all was normal. We stuck to our guns about not finding out, so no news there. I do however have quite high blood pressure, so have been put on Methyldopa tabs - has anyone else taken them?

Oh, and I saw this article this morning, about David Cameron's newborn sleeping in a box. Sounds like we're all much more organised than SamCam!!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11409577

PinkiePoo · 27/09/2010 10:07

Welcome Celia Your only a few days ahead of me!!

tallulah wow your will power....there is no way i could resist!! I bet you have examined your pics though for little clues..hmmm???

I had an AWFUL dream last night. Don't want to go too much into it as its upsetting but its made me into MISS PARANOIA 2010 yet again today.

Anyone else get flutters on/off? I have not had any for 2 days. I heard hb last monday at hospital, and doc said the baby was moving loads as we could hear the hb then hear a woosh, then hear it then it would go. I then stupidely read on the internet, that a girl had the same thing and in fact he baby's hb had actually stopped! ARGGHHHH! I now cannot stop thinking this is what has happened to me.

I want to go and see my midwife, but she is going to think i have completely lost the plot. I have 2 more weeks till my scan...seems like an eternity!!

americanexpat · 27/09/2010 10:28

PinkiePoo - at 18-19 weeks, I was feeling occasional flutters, not everyday though. It wasn't until 20+ weeks that I started feeling movement everyday. Try not to worry, but I know that's difficult.

TallulahBelly14 · 27/09/2010 10:37

PinkiePoo, try not to worry! Is this your first? I'm 21 weeks and I've only just in the last week been able to work out when it's my tummy rumbling vs. the little one moving around. If you're definitely sure you can distinguish the movement, then do speak to your midwife and see what she says. Otherwise please don't panic - and stay away from Google!!

PinkiePoo · 27/09/2010 10:50

Thanks guys....tell me about it Tallulah Google is the best in times of paranoia breakdowns Wink

Well been feeling them from 16 weeks but only slight and as it is my first was convinced it was gas but by 17 weeks i really do feel they were proper little flutters, usually happen in the evening when i am on the sofa.

But nothing last night Sad hopefully he/she will put mummy's mind at rest soon!!!!

PinkiePoo · 27/09/2010 10:50

I meant Google is NOT the best in times of paranoia breakdowns!!!

angels1 · 27/09/2010 11:01

morning ladies :)

Just had reflexology - bliss Grin hoping it will help all my ailments. Problem is the lady is so busy it's hard to book any more appointments which is frustrating.

Sorry to those suffering SPD Sad especially hubbard - I'd be really offended if told I couldn't have physio due to waste of resources as I was overweight - surely even one appointment giving ideas for stretches/excercises/advice would help you deal with it?

To those who co-sleep - a question - I like the idea but probably won't work with us as already have a free cot from friend (saving money) and the height is bound to be different to our bed height so won't be able to stick it on the edge of bed and do the rolling over to feed trick. My concern (other than the whole squashing the baby things which I'm sure is just in my mind) would be getting the baby in habits in the future and that they'd struggle to adapt to sleeping in their own cot/room when they are a little older so have hard wakeful nighttimes once they are a little older and you are trying to move them out of your bed. How long do you co-sleep with them and have you found this?

Good to hear more good scan news - mine is still 2 weeks away and feels like it'll never get here!

My tummy seems to now quickly be getting bigger and bigger - can't really miss me coming from a mile off now Wink

pinkiepoo I've only had very ocassional flutters since about 16 weeks (now 19) but nothing much for the past week - there's no regularity or pattern to them.

Still got thrush :( held out on the pessary until I see doc tomorrow (but using cream) but found this morning a little tear/cut in skin in lady bits which is painful. Had to stop cream as not sure it's good on open skin and will get doctor to look at it and see what's going on, as this is the second time I've had a skin cut in that area since getting pg Hmm.
