Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

angels1 · 17/09/2010 16:07

OP posts:
ledkr · 17/09/2010 16:12

thanks angels. I want something unusual but not outrageous.DD is Ella which is sweet but a bit popular. Also like Martha but there is a bit of an old slapper around Cheltenham called that haha puts one of does it not?
Had Elijah for boy if anyone wants it?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 17/09/2010 16:13

What about Lila/Lilah? Or Cordelia? Dinah?

Suppose he'd object to Jezebel too...? Grin

ledkr · 17/09/2010 16:13

prof was that a clue? paint charty? hmmm.

ledkr · 17/09/2010 16:17

No serious i do like that!!Love Lila and Lira but alas no joy. He comes from a very conventional family im afraid. We have very different views on child rearing.Should be interesting.

angels1 · 17/09/2010 16:30

Elijah is on our maybe list ledkr!! But we think we've picked boys name now. I love martha too - it's on my maybe list but DH doesn't like it - says it sounds too old fashioned Sad. what about Bessie, Daphne, Ruth, Dorothy, Rita, Alice? (These are all on my maybe list so I'm rather giving away alot of my possible options!)

I know what you mean Angels, I feel like a fraud in a baby shop, or someone very sick.

Elijah is lovely, I'm making and elephan that's called that www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/elijah

Prof, is it Leaf? that'd be a great surname!

Wanderingsheep · 17/09/2010 16:46

Prof, is it Green? Or something to do with the colour Green like sage?

ledkr · 17/09/2010 16:53

Or Smith?:)
Dorothy is possible middle name as its my 90 yr old gmas name but also dh Mum.Ella has my middle name.
Feeling very sick today but have a vile headache so probably just that. Any cravings you lot? I am rather enjoying my fruit. Esp nectarines yum.Nothing else tho.Better get ready for my date. Think i might wear one of my 5 items of clothing.
Nutter at work had her dating scan today but managed to avoid her. Will drive us mad all day Monday. Most of us have cunningly booked appointments all day haha.Poor woman.

ledkr · 17/09/2010 16:53

i meant my name as her middle name.

EauRouge · 17/09/2010 16:58

Congrats ledkr :) I love the name Ivy, it is unusual and very pretty.

I think prof's surname must be Farrow & Ball.

Wanderingsheep · 17/09/2010 17:31

Oops, I forgot to say Congratulations Ledkr Blush sorry!
That's what I came on for - to find out if you were able to find out!

Wanderingsheep · 17/09/2010 17:33

Nah, it can't be Farrow and Ball! It must be Dulux! Wink

smallblackflowers · 17/09/2010 17:50

Congrats on your little girl ledkr. Smile

I had my scan today and apart from a low lying placenta that means I need to be scanned again at 32 weeks everything was good. To my great surprise I am expecting a boy - was so convinced he was a girl too! Am really pleased, as will have 1 of each. Hadn't even given boys names a second thought, but am now quite liking Elija too. I'll probably not decide until he is born though, so ages to think about it all.

angels1 · 17/09/2010 17:52

oh, congrats fo sbf :) what a good news day Grin

Wanderingsheep · 17/09/2010 18:01

Congratulations to you too SBF!

I like Elijah too! I suggested it to DH who vetoed it like he does all of my boys names . If we have a boy he's probably goingto be called "Oi" or "You!"

tadjennyp · 17/09/2010 18:09

Congratulations ledkr and smallblackflowers! What lovely news. Smile

knittakid · 17/09/2010 18:09

a boy smf!! congrats!!

Trojan1970 · 17/09/2010 18:21

Congrats to ledkr and sbf. Smile.

ledkr re your post about formula and bottles I wanted to pass on a tip that I was given that worked really well. If you can convince your baby to take the formula at room temperature (I can hear a chorus of people retching at the thought....but DS1 was happy with it when he had both boob and bottle) you can save yourself time and money and stress. Sorry if this is a Granny and Eggs moment, but.....buy a formula powder dispenser (£5 from Mothercare) which has 3 compartments in, measure correct formula in to each, sterilise bottles as normal and fill with boiled water to cool. Don't add formula until you need it, if you make formula up it should be used within 2 hours (I seem to remember) yet plain boiled water should keep for 24 hours in sterilised bottle with no need for chilling. IF baby will take at room temp all you do is make up bottle and give it to them. Saves loads of hassle when out and about trying to find somewhere to warm up bottle. Hope this is of some help.

PS You are right about MS being like having loads of sisters, but I like you lot a whole lot more than I like my sister in RL!! Grin

MizK · 17/09/2010 18:26

Congratulations everybody on their scan news!!! Laughing at baby name debate issue - why do men Just Not Get It when it comes to cute names? I totally love Delphine for a girl and Gabriel for a boy yet have been told, in no uncertain terms by DP, that it's never going to happen!! Grr!
Hope you are all feeling well, time's flying past!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 17/09/2010 18:32

I thought though (and am emphatically not formula expert by any means) that the current advice is that formula powder should always be mixed with boiling (or boiling-ish) water because the powder itself isn't sterile and can contain Bad Things -- which wouldn't be achieved if you mix it with room temperature boiled water (which guarantees no nasties in the water but doesn't do anything about nasties in the powder). There are probably other MN threads about it by people who know what they are talking about.

angels1 · 17/09/2010 18:34

mizk I quite like gabriel too but have heard it about quite a bit (although can't think where from) - is it a popular one I wonder. DOes anyone know of a website where you can type in a name and find out how popular it is in babies/the UK public in general?

OP posts:
angels1 · 17/09/2010 18:38

I know nothing about formula milk at all (as you will be able to see form this question. Can you not make it up with boiling water, stick it in the fridge until needed and then heat it up? I am aware this is probably a deadly sin that I haven't quite discovered yet...When I had bad ms I just put milk with a few ice packs in a cool bag overnight by my bag every evening so I could have it when I woke up without having to get up - it was still ice cold in morning (if the issue is not faffing about around the house in the middle of the night for bottle feed - I know ledkr said she was getting a microwave in babies room for milk heating purposes).
