Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

Good morning! Smile

Grigglepuff, that MW sounds horrible! Of course you're not using it for diagnostic purposes and if using a dopler is giving you some reassurance and making your pregnancy a little less stressful then who the eff is she to say anything! Angry

Sometimes I have such little faith. My sister's friend went to the MW at 27 wks saying she was concerned as she'd had a show. MW said "oh no, it won't have been a show!" and sent her on her way. Unfortunately, she then went into prem labour and her little boy didn't make it Sad. Doctors said afterwards that of she had been taken seriously, she could have been sent for a cervical scan and labour could have been prevented!

Anyway, on a more positive note... It's my birthday today!

My stats need changing from 26 to 27 but I'm not sure how to do it Blush

Deliaskis · 14/09/2010 09:20

What a cr@p midwife for saying that. At this point (and earlier) before a lot of us are feeling 'proper' movements, there is no way to 'tell' for sure if baby is OK, so with or without a doppler, it makes no difference as to the safety of the baby. It's hardly as if you would use the doppler to avoid seeking proper advice if you did think something was wrong.

Some people are just cr@p.

Glad to hear about everybody's scans. Mine's still a way off - October 5th, but we're away the week of September 25th so it will be almost straight after that.

We're not going to find out, but I think both DH and I are mentally aassuming it's a boy, don't know why!

D

Lulabel27 · 14/09/2010 09:28

Griggelpuff so sorry you had a negative time at the midwifes - how insensitive of her. I can only think a doppler is a positive thing especially as what you picked up was identical to the midwife - you must be doing it right. Just ignore her.

Not sure about anyone else but I've been twice now to the midwife and had 3 scans and never seen the same person twice! Not sure if it makes much difference, it just means if I have a negative experience then I can hope next time will be better!

prof your post about the knees going green and ears falling off made me laugh out loud and little bit of water came out of my nose. At work. Luckily I was the only one in at the time Smile

Good luck to

Lulabel27 · 14/09/2010 09:29

Sorry that meant to say Good Luck to moonminmamma for your scan today!

debka · 14/09/2010 12:57

Sympathies to all with rubbish M/Ws. Not to gloat... but mine is lovely and very sympathetic and COMES TO MY HOUSE FOR ALL APPOINTMENTS!!!!

Bensmum76 · 14/09/2010 13:05

Hi all, hmmmm midwives, yes i think we've all had some 'dodgy' ones, shall we say. The two midwives i've seen so far have been very nice but I've yet to meet my 'proper' midwife. Have appointment Friday so maybe I'll get to meet her then. Scan booked for 5th October so only three weeks to go.
Is anyone else feeling very hormonal/emotional at the moment? I've been feeling it for a few weeks but today it all spilled out, in work of all places. Several colleagues got to see the blubbering wreck that was me, and all I could say was 'Its just my hormones'. Two of them were men and looked pretty scared!! Don;t think they'll be approaching me to help with any of their work today!!
Hope y'all are having a good day
xx

angels1 · 14/09/2010 13:34

hello ladies,

grigglepuff don't stress about the midwife - she doesn't sound very professional talking to DH behind your back. I didn't tell my mw about my doppler as I was scared she'd have a similar rant to me. It's no problem so long as we use them for 'fun' I think. Infact, I think it's a great way for DH to feel more part of things and bond a bit.

ledkr it's such a shame you don't have the antique pram as I thought of the perfect use for it for you - you could attach it to the back of your bike with a piece of string or something so that when baby is born you can ride about with the baby in pram behind you - perfect! lol (I joke of course). But imagine the look the mothers at school would give you then Grin

Now who was it here that mentioned possibly having baby born on Mark Owens birthday? I'm so impressed by the memory of whoever that was. I used to be a big mark fan and I can vividly recall he is an aquarious (the things you remember!) but not sure of his birthday....at a guess I'd say 25th or possibly 28th January?? am I right??

I'm fed up with permenant headaches - I think it's as my neck is in a bad position when I sleep from being propped up with pillows. Anyone have any pillow propping ideas which don't cause headaches?

moominmama what's the free boots changing bag like? Is it worth it? I've got boots vouchers, one for £3 off pampers and the other for free changing bag when I buy a pampers (but can't use both together). I was debating just using the £3 off one and not bothering with the free changin bag as I wondered if it would be very cheapy and I'd end out just buying my own nice one anyway (I won't use both vouchers as they are use by november and this seems too early to be stocking up of nappies anyway to me).

OP posts:
Wanderingsheep · 14/09/2010 13:48

I got a free changing bag from my Children's Centre Grin. It was crap though, all the lining came apart and it said "X Children's Centre" on the front so looks a bit naff! I used to use it when I was Childminding.

Now, I'm not sure but I could have sworn that I've felt a bit of movement in my tummy Hmm could just be my tummy rumbling though! I didn't feel any movement until 21 weeks last time but people keep asking me if I've felt any yet this time, so I keep feeling like I should, iyswim!

wigglesrock · 14/09/2010 13:48

angels how are you feeling? everything ok with work? I have got the free changing bag before and its alright but my sister always buys me a baby bag as a baby present, she has really good taste and loads of money (well more than me!!!) so it's always much appreciated until I realize there's not enough feckin' room in them for all the nonsense I seem to need to take out with me!!!.

I always look forward to when mine are walking and can carry around their own little backpacks with their changes of clothes, nappies etc Wink

Wanderingsheep · 14/09/2010 13:56

Yes, and you don't have to cart around bottles of cooled boiled water, milk, food from home. You can buy them a snack if they get hungry/thirsty!

wigglesrock · 14/09/2010 14:00

Yes wandering I will never forget the sense of joy when I was able to nip in and buy mine a ham sandwich, couple of babybels and whisper it very quietly a fruit shoot and enjoy an extra long day out!! Of course now my almost 3 year old seems so old and grown up that I almost miss the old days, the word almost is very important Grin

angels1 · 14/09/2010 14:04

wigglesrock thanks for asking - I'm still rubbish. Been signed off work. At least I can do some stuff, just still spend afternoons/evenings crying to DH at feeling so terrible and miserable and can't do much without having to recover for ages - everything has to be done very slowly and passively if that makes sense. Still - positive thinking - I'll get there soon :)

OP posts:
angels1 · 14/09/2010 14:11

oh my, I'v just been looking up changing bags online and they are so expensive - will soemone tell me why a bag that holds nappies costs £50?! Is there something special about these bags or is it just a normal bag with pockets?

OP posts:
Wanderingsheep · 14/09/2010 14:41

Angels, fingers crossed that you feel better soon! Hope you're DH is giving you lots of help!

Some pushchairs/prams have the changing bag with them, ours for DD did but not that many do, I don't think. Not sure why they're so expensive. They usually have proper pockets for bottles etc but otherwise just a big handbag!

My sister bought one for my nephew, which was ££. It had a magnetic top that automatically clipped together so that you didn't have to zip it/button it etc. She said, "ooh, isn't this good? It means you can get all the stuff out using only one hand while you hold the baby!" Erm... Get everything out before you take the baby out of the pushchair Hmm!

Wanderingsheep · 14/09/2010 14:42

I can't believe the silence around me! DD is at preschool and it's sooooo quiet! Best not get used to it eh?

wigglesrock · 14/09/2010 14:47

They are not even as handy/big as a normal bag!!!! The best one I ever used was from Mothercare £24.99, bought as an emergency before heading on holiday, did for two years, was able to put in washing machine, could stuff loads of stuff in it. But it wasn't as pretty as the more expensive ones Wink.

Am now getting extra sick when I bend over, pick something up off floor, lie down with dds.

Angels have you thought of getting some box sets of tv shows etc that you always meant to watch and just putting them on, watching, dozing, using MN at the same time, just to help you relax. I've been watching a load when dds are asleep and dh is working nights.

GinaFB · 14/09/2010 14:52

Hello everyone hope you are ok?

I've been feeling lots of flutters, not so much in the day as I am busy and distracted but a fair number at night when I'm settling down in bed! Its lovely and I can't wait to start feeling them a lot more during the day!

grigglepuff I have been using my doppler every so often with my DP. Its been lovely to listen together to the heartbeat. I understand that the MW's have to err on the side of caution and warn you etc etc to cover their backs but there is a way to do it!!!

I've found it fairly easy to distinguish between the wooooshy placenta sound and the thumping train that is my little boys heartbeat!

Looking forward to seeing all the up and coming scan news! Now I've had mine I'm feeling alot more relaxed and am actually starting to enjoy pregnancy...... apart from the achy hips, bloating, wind, exhaustion (what energy in the 2nd trimester) and hormonal mood swings...... Grin

angels1 · 14/09/2010 15:05

wigglesrock I've been watching tons of DVDs (have a love film account) but am running out of films as I can't find any that look interesting that I haven't seen. Currently watching 'the lovely bones'. Any suggestions for good films that arn't too emotional/depressing (I cry easily!) anyone?

OP posts:
ledkr · 14/09/2010 15:18

angelsdont forget if you get the baby style buggy it comes with changing bag.
I am at work and am just about to go on a late visit to a really dirty house but have drank lots of tea so may need to use the toilet yuk! worst think about my job. I want to be watching dvd box sets and im not happy.:(
I am feeling quite well actually. I think i may have finaly achieved a minor "glow"i am sure it will last for about 4 hours tho then ill be back to normal. I think having a moaning fellow pg woman next to me does help.
She has asked me to drive to some training in November as she is struggling to drive.I WILL BE 7 MONTHS SHE WILL BE 4. Priceless.
Tell me you are not all sticking to the tea/coffee allowance. i seem to drink loads of tea it tastes to me like nectar.

Trojan1970 · 14/09/2010 15:29

Angels - have you got people who will want to buy presents for the baby? You could choose the changing bag you really really want and ask for vouchers towards it? Does work normally do a whip round when people leave for Mat Leave? (I know you're signed off at the mo). You will use the bag every day for 2 years, where as baby clothes will be grown out of in literally weeks. I got a used one on Ebay. You can 'save' a search on ebay so you get emails when an item matching your search is listed (sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs, but it was a revelation to me!!) You might 'bag' a bargain Grin

Anyone else been brave enough to get on the scales? I was pleased to see I've only put on 3lb....however it is all relative as I was significantly overweight before I started this pg lark Blush

grigglepuff · 14/09/2010 15:38

Oh my god your work colleague would drive me nuts! I've been thinking that for a while but then realised just now that you sit next to her every day! You're still showing a lot of restraint with her - I would have exploded by now! Grin

Trojan1970 · 14/09/2010 15:38

PS - sorry if the word 'scales' is taboo. I really am a heffer and wasn't trying to be smug with the '3lb'. No offence meant to anyone.

angels1 · 14/09/2010 15:41

trojan I've been too scared to brave the scales since the shock when weighed at the mw's a couple of weeks ago. I figure ignorance is bliss and I have enough to worry about! Good idea on the changing bag front and I didn't know that about ebay. Might try an NCT second hand sale at some point and see what's there too. I have christmas and birthday before the baby is born so vouchers may be top of my list :) (and with any luck I'll get one of the baby carier/transport/pram/whatever they're called thingys with a bag included) I'm not sure if work do gifts for mat leave or not - I would err on the side of no as I got married earlier this year and they all clubbed together and I got a massive wad of John Lewis vouchers Grin. I can't see them wanting to give me more gifts a few months later Wink and would feel a bit bad about it, especially having been off ill for so long.

wigglesrock · 14/09/2010 15:41

Trojan I haven't put on weight either but was certainly padded before pg!!, I was at my lightest after dd1 was born and for next six months or so, I put very little weight on and after she was born I obviously lost quite a lot. Not sure I could market pregnancy as a weight loss program but it works for me!! Grin

Ledkr I yearn for tea, first thing I went off this time and still can't touch it, the day I can stomach a mug of tea I will personally be gulping mine and everyone else's allowance. Can't believe precious pregnant one asked you to drive, cheeky mare but as you said before her whining does make you look good!!

Angels I have been watching comedy/romantic films, which usually I don't bother with. Have you seen 30 days of Summer, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

americanexpat · 14/09/2010 15:44

angels - if you're open to TV series, Arrested Development is funny in a quirky sort of way.

trojan - I've been keeping tabs on my weight and have put on 8.5 lbs, 3.5 of those in the last 2 weeks. Shock DH asked me how much of that is cake and he has a valid point. My sugar cravings are out of control.

I felt a "rolling" sensation in my lower abdomen this morning. Is it too early for me to feel the baby roll around like that? I've only been feeling very subtle movements until now so maybe it was intestinal?
