Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
angels1 · 08/09/2010 12:37

wigglesrock not given them a date yet but the date will be about 6-7 weeks before EDD anyway.

ledkr maybe I just moan more than you! Wink and really it's mostly nausea not vomiting I have (but having terrible nausea where you feel like you are just about to be sick the next second all the time and doing anything other than lying down tips you over the edge is still pretty bad and makes doing things like teaching cooking very hard - luckily so long as I do take it easy now I'm much better than a couple of months ago - it's just as soon as I do much it comes straight back so quickly. But keep positive that it keeps improving and I'll be back at work with a click of my shoes a la the wizard of oz). It wouldn't be as bad if I didn't want to go back to work - but I like my job!

OK I'm annoyed today, and regretting having told anyone about my happy news! I had a 'was it planned' last week (am still quite offended by that), and one of the guys in my office just mock whispered 'I can't think why anyone would want to have children. Just think - sticky fingers all over my car - how disgusting.' Right in front of me - the cheek!

And MissTfied, I don't think you're odd at all - I'm going to wait until I have a big bump till I tell anyone else /let them guess, then maybe they'll be less inclined to be rude!

angels1 · 08/09/2010 12:42

oh no wigglesrock for me I don't want pethedine - I hate feeling spaced out and the feeling of how they describe gas and air and pethedine to be like. I don't get drunk as I hate the effect it has on me so the out of control spaced out effect of those drugs would really panic me and make me more stressed - I'm actually going to make it clear on my birth plan that I do not want it under almost any circumstance (although might try gas and air to see how I get on with it as at least it wears off quick). It's just me though, and I am odd! It does mean though that there's no real gap in my options between paracetamol and epidural though.

TallulahBelly14 · 08/09/2010 12:44

debka that sounds like such a good idea, I'm very jealous of all the uber-progressive Europeans - 2 weeks paternity leave is so stingy!

angels1 · 08/09/2010 12:47

grr to tallulahbelly14's meanie man at work. We should think of some good lines to say quickly back to these people. I'm not funny enough to think of any good ones but I'm sure some of you can think of good one liners. Someone mentioned (not sure if it was on the feb thread, I think so) if asked if it was planned responding with something about not being sure who the father is as a joke to shut them up. Can you imagine not having a child just because you don't want to get a dirty car?! He obviously doesn't have much going on in his life to be so concerned about having a spotless car!

OP posts:
wigglesrock · 08/09/2010 12:55

angels no it doesn't make you odd at at all, It's funny I have a real thing about not having an epidural although have no real reason for it!! It's funny with dd2, she ended up coming out so quickly that she arrived about 2 minutes after pethedine was given but pethedine helped with the bits and pieces of stuff the midwife was doing or "tidying up" as my midwife called it!!

Not sure if dh can afford to take pat leave this time as he only gets statutory, he gets 2 days full pay, with dd2 he took 1, cue silent, seething resentment for about 6 months Grin

Bensmum76 · 08/09/2010 13:06

Hi all, Angels I was determined with baby no1 not to have anything more than gas and air and I managed it! I won't mention the fact that I begged for an epidural for 2 hours then when the doctor came to give me one I cried and said I didn't really want one!
I was offered a drug beginning with S that makes contractions stronger but I refused it. I think as long as you read up on your options then you'll feel empowered and strong enough to tell the midwifes etc what you want and don't want and make sure its all in your birth plan cos they do actually read them!

debka · 08/09/2010 13:21

Didn't want to imply that an epidural is a bad thing or makes you a weaker person- I know every labour and experience is different- I was just surprised at how ok it was for me. Fingers crossed I don't get a nasty shock next time round... Angels gas and air is lovely stuff and didn't make me feel drunk at all.

worrymummy · 08/09/2010 14:05

hello trojan and misstfied I am in Sussex too. felt a bit strange about telling people as I'm SO old (40) and it's my 3rd (and a surprise) but also wanted to so they didn't wonder if I had had a boob job/got enourmously fat.

Yes ledk clothes don't look right but don't have a full length mirror since DS1 broke it so don't really know what I look like - a blessing probably!

Speshpg sounds like a nightmare, would drive me crazy too. At least she makes you look like a trooper as you say!

Not sure about a doppler as think I would get stressed about trying to find heartbeat etc. I'm sure the DSs would adore it though!

Feeling a bit strange as DS1 started school and just DS2 at home, he is really missing his brother but DS1 seems to be really enjoying school - shock!

Love to allx

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 14:14

I and an epidural last time as I had a looong op labour that lasted a few days and I just wanted some sleep. Was brilliant, I was able to get a good sleep until it was almost time to push! I also liked the gas and air. It gave me the giggles! DH had a sneaky try when the MW was out of the room but it made him feel sick.

Tallulahbelly, I've had a few of the "were you trying?" comments. People are so nosy! I think that, unless you announce that you are going to start trying, it's one of those annoying questions that people ask. You can't win though because if you announce that you are trying you get "are you pregnant yet?" until you announce a pregnancy! Grr!

40Weeks · 08/09/2010 14:36

Hello everyone, welcome newbies

How rude of people - "were you trying?" As if anyone comes into work as says, "So how was your weekend, any sex last night? Did you use protection or are you hoping one of those bad boys got through the magic gates??"

Not one asks what form of protection you are using when you get a new boyfriend!!

Ahhhhhggg cant believe it! Anyway, calmed down a bit now.

Re epidural - I was adamant I didnt want one but had long induced labour, ended up in theatre and was in agony and was soooo glad to have it - he needed forceps anyway so epidural didnt prolong anything in itself - 2nd time round just had gas and air for last hour and it was ace, even if it was just having something to focus on other than the pain. Dont set yourself any limits - just make sure your partner knows what you want (in case you cant speak for yourself on the actual day) but also, if you need something to help you through then go for it. Every person/labour is different so just go for what feels right at the time. The ultimate goal is the same, happy healthy baby and mummy Smile

Sorry just going to turn smug Sarah Jane off CBeebies

americanexpat · 08/09/2010 15:29

Tallulah - I can't believe the cheek of your coworkers! Have they no manners at all? I hope most of your coworkers have been supportive?

My mum asked me if the pregnancy was planned. I didn't take offense as she was truly shocked when I told her, said she wasn't sure if we intended to have children. I purposely didn't tell anyone we were TTC, as I didn't want people to think our sex life was up for discussion. I admit to being curious about a few pregnancies but certainly not rude enough to ask!

Lulabel27 · 08/09/2010 15:50

Hi All!
Just caught up again!

Welcome Trojan :)
GinaFB - you've bought a pram! That's so exciting! We went to Babies-r-us last night and broke their silver cross demo pram. To be fair there were staff all over the place, it was dead and no-one offered to show us so I don't feel to guilty! We ended up buying a little blanket but too nervous to buy anything else yet

Ledkr - what a nightmare with woman at work!! Can you wear an ipod to drown her out? I think my work is quite unique where no-one cares if you put an ipod in - it means "I'm working leave me alone!"

Angels1 - so sorry you're having such a nightmare with work thats the last thing you need.

Re: epidurals, I can't have one anyway due to metal plates in my spine from a car accident. I am meeting anethetist on Monday (when I also have 20 wk scan!) to see what options are! All seeming very real now!

GinaFB · 08/09/2010 16:41

Lulabel we only put a deposit down on it! Its fully refundable and if you see if cheaper and call and say that they will give you the additional discount! Also chose for it to be delivered before Christmas!

Re pethadine, I was given morpine and gas back in Feb and it made me so sick and out of it that I've vowed to try and do without in labour. The thing I hate most is being out of control!!

Deliaskis · 08/09/2010 17:00

Got my 20 week scan apt for October 5th, followed by a consultant apt, I assume this is to discuss anything that crops up on the scan? Or is the consultant apt for anything else? Had mw apt yesterday and no concerns so I've not been given this apt for any 'special' reason...

Dx

tadjennyp · 08/09/2010 17:26

Re the 'was it planned?' comments, can you answer with: 'yes we have a wonderful sex life, how about you?' That should shut them up!

I have my 18 week scan tomorrow and I am really nervous. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

jackinthebump · 08/09/2010 17:28

My pram has been delivered!!! It is at In Laws - we pick it up on Sunday!!! They bought it for us and decided to get it now as it is on offer!

The idea of an epidural terrifies me but I will most likely be having C Section so not much choice on the spinal!!!

40Weeks · 08/09/2010 17:51

tadjenny thats the best come back for sure, can you always be with me when in need of quick rebuttal!? Thanks

angels1 · 08/09/2010 18:44

just reading a post on the pg section about doing pelvic floor excercises and hadn't even crossed my mind yet. Just wondered if anyone here has been doing it yet or not, and if you have just how regularly are you doing them? I know I really should I suppose, just sort of forget. Maybe I need a timer to go off several times a day to remind me Wink

OP posts:
40Weeks · 08/09/2010 19:47

Hey angels, do you drink tea or coffee? I try to remember to do them when doing something I know I will do every day - or brushing teeth? Deffo worth doing, once its gone, its gone Wink

40Weeks · 08/09/2010 19:49

Sorry that didnt make sense, I meant to say you could do them while making a cuppa

angels1 · 08/09/2010 19:50

I only sometimes have tea, but I do always clean my teeth Grin so could try to do it then. Mw hadn't mentioned I should be doing this and checked my book and it's at the next months list of info so hadn't got there in the book yet!

OP posts:
ledkr · 08/09/2010 21:17

Talulah and worry i am fed up too. lost count of are you mad or insane comments from school mums. love the idea of ''yes weve been shagging for England'' I have decided to opt for ''yes I'm fuming that I managed to conceive at 43 my dhs only child after 6 months of gruelling chemotherapy'' do you think that will shut them up?
Angels you don't need to defend how you feel I have been on here when you have sounded really sick and fed up I know you'd do anything to feel better.
Wriggles..isn't dh a copper? mine is getting 2 wks and also adding some leave. I am having section so didn't want all his leave spent looking after me.hopefully will be able to get out a bit by 3rd week.
Had little accident earlier. cyclist hit car. dd was so upset

angels1 · 08/09/2010 21:19

Evening All - met my MW for 16 week appt today and she's lovely, which guarantees that I'll never see her again!

ledkr, UTI sounds grim, I hope you were able to see the Dr today, and that you can get some sleep tonight.

Angels don't let work stress you out, HR can be such jobsworths at times (sorry to any nice HR people on this thread!)

I'm off to bed now to get a head start on my snoring DH.

Night All.
