Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

OP posts:

40Weeks · 07/09/2010 15:35

Sorry Gina you meant the pram didnt you? Duurrrrr

worrymummy · 07/09/2010 15:47

angels you could talk to your union, they should be helpful?

angels1 · 07/09/2010 16:04

thanks worrymummy but that was what union said - theoretically they could ask for money back as I've been ill in holidays.

I've been advised by my head of department to 'not mention' the fact that it has been ongoing all summer and the fact that the doc has put a different reason for absence on both before and after holidays works in my favour. If they ask me straight out if I was ill all summer head of dept said I should reply that it was up and down (I don't want to lie and this is true) and if they ask me if I would have been fit for work in the summer to give a response about it would depend on what tasks they would have required of me in the holidays and that I would have been capable of some work (which is true - I could have done schemes of work etc when I felt up to it at home), and hopefully this will be enough so I don't have to pay back summer holiday pay and hopefully will get a bit more sick pay now it's a new academic year (we're just about to spend our savings on moving etc - could do without more money worries!)

welcome trojan :)

Like the name of new thread (actually not that new is it) but wondering when it will apply to me... certainly growing but feel like pants. Seem to have a UT infection, waiting for bacterial culture results, how nice.

Anyone else dropping stuff a lot? I remember doing it from last pg but not this early on.

40Weeks · 07/09/2010 16:30

Ouch endangered am feeling your pain, get my results Thursday but symptoms subsided so hopefully nothing.

And have always been a 'dropper' but yes its worse now, esp keys!

EndangeredSpecies · 07/09/2010 16:35

the bummer is I haven't even got any symptoms, just a high WBC in urine. Hope your results are good 40wks.

ledkr · 07/09/2010 19:53

Dopler advice on you tube. I use lots of gel then find the swishing then move it very slowly around that area stopping to listen every second. I can hear mine in distance as baby has a den behind my placenta. It's lower down than I thought and all the action is on one side. It can take up to ten mins to find it too. does that help?
Mad colleague got worse. she refused to do two things which I did when I was pg and spotting and worrying re downs screening. she's going to do my head in. Had two appointments today and did nothing

ledkr · 07/09/2010 19:58

Oh yeah and went swimming in her ''half hour'' lunch break. I had appointment 40 miles away didn't get home till 7 and I have dd. She's also demanding a car park space when she lives closer than me who rides me flippin bike everyday cos of parking! !!
Grrrs can't you lot get her for me?
Knitta I suggested mn but she declined.

moonminmama · 07/09/2010 20:17

Evening all! Welcome Trojan Smile

Think i have solved the puking problem. Im putting it down to too much fluid.

Regarding the coat. I have just bought a shawl/poncho from tesco. Only am cheap think to put me on but its quite nice. Black wooly thing. I had forgotten bow bad last winter was so will probably end up getting a
coat.

I have my 20week scan next Tuesday and I am soooooo excited! Cant wait to find out whether its pink or blue Grin I have felt the baby move a lot just lately, I am excited for the day when my dh can feel him/her move too.

Trojan1970 · 07/09/2010 20:49

Gina - I'm going to be at QA as I'm more over that way than Princess Anne. Will we see you on One Born Every Minute if you are in there? Grin

GinaFB · 07/09/2010 21:04

LOL Trojan!! Not me that's for sure!!! They are advertising it pretty heavily for women due in Nov though!!

40Weeks · 07/09/2010 21:16

OMG can you imagine being filmed while in labour?! I mean, I think I would actually throw stuff at the cameraman. Not the new baby but maybe something of equal or greater weight.

I love how they edit that to make it look like one of the midwives in particular eats all the biscuits. That would be me at work! No editing necessary!

MissTFied · 07/09/2010 22:51

Hi everyone. Good to read your updates.

Prof please can you amend my stats to show EDD of 8th Feb, and add Sussex as location? Thanks.

Is there anyone else out there who hasn't told anyone yet? Or am I just an odd-bod?! I am trying to see how long I can get away with it...

Wanderingsheep · 07/09/2010 22:59

Hi all!
Haven't posted on this thread for ages, it's dropped off the threads I'm on!

Haven't had chance to catch up properly but welcome to Trojan!

Angels, hope you get all the work stuff sorted.

I'm definitely not blooming yet. My skin is a mess Sad but my bump is growing. Smile I have to make a 16 week appt for next week and I've got my quadruple test on Monday.

DD started preschool today! She looked so grown up in her uniform and was so excited to go. She wasn't bothered about leaving me a d she didn't want to come home!!!

They grow up so quickly!

Wanderingsheep · 07/09/2010 23:02

MissTfied, I think I've told most people but I think last time I didn't until I was about 16 weeks. I had a scan then and I told them afterwards but told family after the 12 week one.

byronicheroine · 08/09/2010 07:14

I've told people so I can get as much sympathy/understanding as possible! Also, I got my first seat offered on the bus yesterday, but I thought I didn't look pregnant just a bit chubby... Is this a good thing?
Two weeks til the big scan and I really can't wait, then maybe I'll be able to narrow down some names and buy/beg/scrounge some things for the little one.
Does anyone else thing knowing the sex helps with bonding and imagining life 'afterwards', especially for all the OHs out there?

ledkr · 08/09/2010 08:26

Ahhh.been up all night with utI. So horrible at night cos no Dr or distraction. woke dh at 4 to get me pain killers. Had no sleep feel terrible. sorry to moan but mums on holiday so can't tell her welcome newbies.

byronicheroine · 08/09/2010 08:43

ledkr that's awful, am so sorry... drink plenty of water (it does help) and cranberry juice if you can get your hands on it. Get thee to the doctor's asap this morning, I know it's so uncomfortable. I was warned by the midwife about UTI's being common during pregnancy as I'm a bit prone anyway.
Have your dh make you a hot water bottle :)

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 08:51

Oh no, Ledkr! Hope you get to the doctors today and you feel better soon.

ledkr · 08/09/2010 11:18

hi there thanks for the sympathy.Im quite prone too byronwas in hospital once with it which is why i had a mild paddy when Gp suggested i wait for the cultures yeah right i said stroppily my bladder is literally throbbing and i feel sick. Luckily had only an hr to work today so told them id add it on to next weeks hrs, when i rang lo and behold the special pregnant one is off sick AGAIN would anyone else feel a bit annoyed? She has had some mild nausea and thats it and is 8 flippin wks.Everyone is really cheesed off with it and we work with such needy kids its awfull to keep letting them down:(
Angels any news from school?Think the prof maybe right and you may need to go in for one day to break up the periods of sickness. Its about time that severe pg symptoms are looked at separately. I feela bit the same about the c section and dh paternity leave. Only gets 2 weeks most of which ill be feeling a bit pooh for but luckily he has loads of leave to take. I was thinking about booking a small break for the feb half term cos will be born by end of Jan and i thought it would also save me from the pil intended week long visit which they are planning-didnt you know im a holiday venue-anyone welcome lovely food provided free of charge.

angels1 · 08/09/2010 12:04

ledkr I hope your UIT clears up soon - sounds really nasty. Your work collegue sounds very lucky to have only suffered mild nausea by 8 weeks. Tbh I'm suprised she's making it so public at work so early when people seem to keep things quiet from everyone for a few more weeks.

Well I spoke to a few lovely people at work and they have sorted everything out for me (fingers crossed). Apparently people have complained in the past about the lady in charge of finding out why people are off sick due to her blabbing, so it seems I'm not the first to request to go through other channels. Just got a message saying they are contacting HR to see what happens re: my sick pay and I've been advised by union to be careful re: my wording as if they think it's a continued illness all through the holidays work can get rude with sick pay. My sick note starts from first day back at term so no point in going in (too late anyway) as i'll be in my signed off period. The nice people I'm in touch with at work have told me if I even try to come in whilst signed off they'll send me straight home no matter how fit for work I claim to be, so at least they're being understanding even if sick pay might be a tricky issue to deal with in the next few days. Just hope when I return it will be the same understanding-ness.

I agree with paternity leave ledkr it's a shame that the mother and father together can't get allocated a number of weeks/months and use it between them however they want (so if wanted father could take a few months off with SMP if mother wanted to go back quicker). It would certainly fit in better with peoples different needs with childcare etc, and probably mean women have less employment issues with potentially not being hired for fear of them going off on maternity leave. My DH is self employed and I wasn't even sure if he'd take any time off as when he doesn't work he has to pay his emplyees but they can't do they job without him (if that makes sense). Luckily, he's said without any prompting he'll take 2 weeks off after birth.

Btw - 'one born every minute' - I couldn't watch it - it was like watching through closed hands over face. It's what has made me think I can't handle birth without an epidural. The pain....THE PAIN.....!

OP posts:
debka · 08/09/2010 12:13

In Slovenia where I used to live the Mum and Dad can share mat leave- my friend who doesn't work's husband took a full year off when their DD was born- not that he was at home, he worked a second job so earned double money on top of the paternity pay! Bit cheeky I think but everyone does it and they pay sky high taxes as a result.

Angels they do make a big fuss on One Born Every Minute, labour's not fun but it is do-able without an epidural. What made me laugh was how they all came in all excited and chirpy and after a few hours/days it had all gone and they realised what it really meant!

wigglesrock · 08/09/2010 12:14

angels sorry if I'm going on a bit about work, but was just nosy curious to see if you have given work date of leaving to go on mat leave yet. If not I think it might be useful to make sure your leaving date is 5 weeks before due date that way if you are off sick you will continue to get sick pay until mat pay kicks in, if less than 5 weeks employer can make you take maternity leave earlier, happened to me with dd2, I was signed off work from 6.5 months but got sick pay until mat pay. Hope that makes sense, trying to stop previously mentioned dd2 from feeding her lunch to dog!!!

Feel better Ledkr, ps my sil stopped work from 6 weeks with both dcs and she worked for herself!!! She was a very special pregnant one!

ledkr · 08/09/2010 12:27

debka ive had 2 normal and 2 c section and one was definately ok without epidural but my first was extremely painfull as he was back to my back and i nearly passed out with pain, i have to say the epidural was very welcome and enabled me to calm down and give birth vaginally and in a nice way so i think people should be open minded about pain relief as every labour and pain threshold is different.
angels that sounds better about work. The only good thing about my nightmare colleague is that she makes me look like a trooper so if i do develop complications later on at least people will know its not the norm for me. I checked in on here the other day at work and you had commented on her and she sat 3 feet away from me..couldnt see screen but made me laugh. I had a funny moment at work yesterday as i have low bp and nearly fainted. My gp has told me to have salty crisps and lucozade sport as the salt will raise it. Special pg one was out but when she was back someone asked me how i felt and my heart sank as i knew it would set her off so i just brushed it off with an "ok now"
I told her about my cyber friend angels who vomits constantly but she still thinks feeling abit sick(altho never stops scoffing)is a reason for maximum sick time. I dont know maybe im just lucky but have had my share of nasty symptoms too.

wigglesrock · 08/09/2010 12:36

Agree re being open minded about pain relief, my dd1 was "back to back", long labour, very painful but doable, dd2 was induced which I know fills people with fear but mine was dead on, no forceps, no being made to lie down etc, much easier and quicker and again I know people seem to think it can be the work of the devil but pethedine is great, drowsy babies my arse!!
