Ooh, that true floozie how strange! Progress report- Thames Valley police are absolutely determined for me to do this course and have now extended the requirement into January and have told me that I can take the Course up North and the AA will send me through new paperwork. At least by the New Year I should have been reaquainted with both my elbow and my posterior, so a modicum of planning should help me achieve a day away to do this course. Having never received points on my license, I suppose I have the fear that endorsements on my license will add to my insurance premiums over the next few years (on top of claiming for totalling my car.) Not sure what to do now. The police have been helpful with trying to get me on this course, but at the same time I wonder if I should play hardball and wait out for a 'punishment' instead. My DH thinks I should refute anyway on the case of no witnesses and the entire thing was a debacle of 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. However, this would mean a court appearance I think and is not something I want to be faffing around with.

On the plus side, my packed lunch is very nice- pesto, mozzarella, tomato and lettuce sandwich with wholemeal bread and one of those Yeo Valley yoghurt pots which is rather lovely. I recommend them. The reflux is becoming so evil that its burning my mouth...

tiredfeet · 01/09/2010 14:04

elsa its ridiculous they are requiring you to do the course by January as your due date is October. I don't see how they can require you to do it until the statutory maternity leave period is up (at the earliest). But I agree with whoever suggested that, if they insist, you just take baby along and breast feed and nappy change as required Grin

floozie I'm so pleased you made it past your 'deadline' as it were, must be a big relief. It must be amazing though in some ways to be able to imagine so clearly what your little one looks like now.

sheildbug hope the appointment goes well today

I made it out sailing at the weekend, hadn't been for ages so I really wanted to, but the wind was more than we expected so it was a little bit hard going at times! I think I might have to give sailing a miss now until the baby gets here.

jennimoo I love the story of putting the pin into the coffee machine!

DH is away in France this weekend, really hoping the baby doesn't decide to make a point and come early...

nymphadora · 01/09/2010 14:54

Had a strop over Physio , cried on phone to them & Gp as the referral hasn't made it despite being hand delivered and they will give me crutches this afternoon.

Been shopping this am which comprised on 1 shop ( man got me a chair) another shop, cafe, another shop then dds helping me back to car. Trying to sort dd2 & dh bday presents but had to give up. Both next week & going to have to depend on online now.

shieldbug · 01/09/2010 16:42

nymph sorry to hear you are still having it tough. Hope the crutches help.

tiredfeet I am so impressed that you managed to sail. Hope you are ok on your own this weekend.

Well, I've had the scan -had to wait for ages to see the consultant because there was an emergency in the labour ward. Hope the poor woman was ok. On a more positive note, everything is fine with sproglet. The possible cysts aren't cysts at all and everything is measuring normally in the kidneys. Sproglet is also in a good position to think about engaging (upside down, head facing my spine). Dh and I walked out of the appt with the biggest grins on our faces. What a relief! Even better, he said there's no reason why sproglet would need to be followed up post natally, so clearly there's nothing wrong. Yippee! Thanks so much for all your support, it really helped.

nymphadora · 01/09/2010 17:59

Got the crutches, crying obviously worked Blush they phoned up and said I could get them this pm or tomorrow. dh had just come in so he gave me a lift (to the next street Blush ) and I now have them and a physio appt next week. so next week I have MH MW on Mon, Cons on Tu and Physio on Thurs. And I thought I'd be lonely when they all go backl Hmm

Great news shieldbug , looking like everyone is getting ready to go!

I'm waiting for my friend to go into labour. She was due last week and baby is big & v engaged but just not going anywhere! Will be born at some point in the next week though now so the end is in sight.I'm just trying to keep contact with her without actually saying 'have you had it yet!'

Tyson86 · 01/09/2010 18:29

Nymph Glad you have your crutches now :)

I have finally got my TENS machine. I am so happy, it cost £50 in the end and really hoping it works well for me.
I am getting very bored of waiting now, im 35 weeks on friday and just want to meet her. :)

nymphadora · 01/09/2010 18:44

Glad you got your TENS Tyson Grin

Hermya321 · 01/09/2010 19:53

Elsa The thing is a driver improvement scheme is the nice option as far as the police are concerned. If you go to court you could end up paying court costs and getting points for a due care charge. I've just heard that three points on your licence is now leading to an automatic hike of £250 on your licence. It's good they're being helpful to you though.

Tyson Glad you got your tens machine.

Shieldbug Yay for Sproglet!!

I went shopping with my Mum today and got some adorable little outfits and then bought out boots for hospital bag gear. It felt very very odd buying maternity pads. I got two packs, I know I'll probably need more but I just couldn't bring myself to load my basket full of them.

I also ended up getting into an argument with some woman in Asda car park. I'm not normally like that at all, but she caught me at the end of my tether. Long and short of it was that I'd opened my car door and it had bounced on hers. I hadn't even gotten out of my car and she was all, 'Excuse me! I saw your car door bounce three times off of mine' and I said 'I'm holding the door, it's not hit your door hard. I'm always careful with these types of things'. Anyway I got out and looked at her door and said 'It's not caused any damage' and she was like 'I can see that'. So I stood there and thought, whats your problem then and said 'right then' and walked off and her daughter was like 'an apology would be nice' so I said 'I said I was sorry!' and she then got into her car and huffed 'I don't think you did' and drove off.

I know I should have said sorry, but I think it was her approach and my pregnancy hormones combined which made me a bit squiffy with her. She probably lives in some mansion and has champers on her posh cereal and I'll be the chavvy pregnant woman with the crappy car that had a go at her. This incident will be spoken of far and wide in her circles.

nymphadora · 01/09/2010 20:30

Lol hermya sounds like what I am doing to everyone people that annoy me!

I stocked up on maternity pads/ breast pads in asda last week. Dh holding basket as I added pack after pack after pack Confused Shock Confused

floozietoozie · 01/09/2010 23:30

Elsa - that sucks. I do think they should allow you more time than that. A four-hour course if you are a breastfeeding mother on maternity leave is pretty much out of the question IMO.

Nymph glad you got the crutches. Hope they really help you.

Shieldbug I'm SOOOO pleased that everything is fine with the baby's kidneys. What a relief. Smile Smile Smile

I have my glucose tolerance test tomorrow morning, and am not allowed to eat past midnight. That means I have another 36 minutes at time of typing to stuff my face, doesn't it? Wink. I'm getting quite scared at the thought of not eating until probably 11am at the earliest, after being out of the house for nearly three hours by that stage...

In other news, I think I'm getting a cold - runny nose, sneezing, probably caught from my niece who started coming down with one while we were on holiday. It might explain why I've been feeling super-duper tired and emotional some of the past days (although probably just pregnancy will explain that!).

I bought a new bag to use as a hospital bag on holiday, so I need to actually start packing it now. I did try to find some pjs while away but there were limited shops. I'm also wondering where I can get Lansinoh from.
Boots don't stock it - any suggestions anyone? I'm going to a baby show on Sunday so maybe one of the exhibitors will have some. I'd also like a new dressing gown, just a thinnish one as I remember hospital being very warm, but also because I don't want it to take up too much bag space.

floozietoozie · 02/09/2010 08:08

I've had three hours sleep. Confused. I slept from 12.20 at the earliest till 2, woke up for loo then couldn't get back, probably would have eventually but ds woke at 3 and came in with me, took a while for him to go off. I mist have gone to loo six times. Was Reading in the toilet at approaching five, then i may have slightly snoozed from say 5.50 till 6.20, but that was the last time I looked at the clock. I definitely slept till 7.30, then had another 15 mins doze before my alarm went off to go for my GTT. Oh joy. Do u think they'll be able to find me a bed for the two hour wait between blood tests???

shieldbug · 02/09/2010 08:59

nymph glad to hear you've got the crutches now. Had to laugh at the image of your dh getting a basket full of maternity pads and breast pads!

Tyson good news on the TENS front. Hope it works well.I know what you mean about being bored of waiting and I'm a week behind you!

Hermya Well done on the shopping front. I find I've got very little tolerance for people who are unpleasant at the moment. Hormones, 'eh?

floozie hope you manage to get a comfy spot at the hospital and the test goes well. I haven't come across any baby shows near me so I'm Envy at those who manage to go to one. Hope you enjoy it and resist the temptation to buy everything!

Mil gave me some cute sleepsuits for sproglet last night, so the baby wardrobe is getting more extensive now. I'm still hunting for a nightie for hospital though.

nymphadora · 02/09/2010 09:12

shield I think he was thinking section would just clean me out & I just kept piling them in!

Dh back in proper shirt & tie today so that's the end of any flexibility til baby now :(

Got a delivery of nappies today (eBay &mn)so that's more washing piled up!

tiredfeet · 02/09/2010 09:25

sheildbug that's great news, it must have been such a relief Smile

nymph glad you've made progress with the physio and crutches, hopefully it will make things a little easier.

hermya their reaction seems a bit over the top given that there wasn't any damage!

floozie poor you having such a bad nights sleep. I hope the GTT goes ok and that you can have a rest when you get home.

nymphadora · 02/09/2010 09:31

Forgot to say good luck floozie

piesey · 02/09/2010 11:12

floozie I'm not sleeping well either at the moment - went t bed very early last night and really only dozed through the night plus had to get up many times for the loo. If go to bed later I seem to manage only getting up once or twice, and get a slightly deeper sleep. I am feeling s shattered though - I couldn't keep my eyes open t watch TV!

I'm trying to get all my kitting bits finished but not finding time or energy to do it.

sheildbug I've been looking for a nightie too - it's difficult to find one in a dark colour. I got one from Matalan (about £5) which has buttons all the way down the front and is a cotton jersey but it's pale with a little pattern on it. But got it anyway as thought it would be useful, especially for bf.

Elsa123 · 02/09/2010 11:55

Morning All!

Sheildbug I'm so pleased that there is nothing going on with your baby's kidneys afterall- you can relax a bit more now.

Nymph well done on getting the crutches- what type do you have? Hopefully they won't be a pain in themselves!

Tyson Well done on getting a Tens Machine- where did you get it from?

Hermya- thanks for the advice! Stupid woman who had a pop at you.

Floozie I hope your tests go ok- pants not being able to eat, that and a cold and no sleep its one long laugh isn't it?!

Nice late start for me as I was waiting in for the mw- 34 weeks today! Everything was fine and I've grown 4-5 cm in the last 3 weeks, so the baby/fundus is catching up with itself! I now measure 29-30 weeks.

With the lack of hospital tour available at the John Radcliffe in Oxford and the fact that my mw does not work there had left me totally in the dark about procedure, what its like etc so yesterday I did some ringing round and have put together a list of phone numbers etc, so I feel a little more prepared and I asked loads of questions on the procedure etc as I haven't been in hospital for 28 years! They spoke to me as if I was an idiot on the phone and I was at pains to explain I was not in the same trust area and I was unaware of admissions procedure etc-= so I actually have a clue now which is reassuring.

They also have private and amenity rooms available and we thought it would be nice to use one if I end up staying overnight after the baby is born. They have some good facilities including towels, nappies, pads etc. The strange thing is you have to book one for your EDD but you may not have your baby on that day- so I'll see how that pans out! But you don't pay until you've used it.

I finish work next Friday! Can't wait!

Hermya321 · 02/09/2010 11:59

Tiredfeet Thats what made me think Champers on the breakfast cereal to be honest . Maybe I've just spent too much time with people who've been on the opposite end of the spectrum when their cars have been damaged; and my standards as to what is necessary for a rolicking in a car park are a bit more extreme than hers were. Oh well, c'est la vie. I was down with my family this weekend and my cousin who is twenty three weeks pregnant has got hormone overload. She's been in several arguments (she won) with strangers in the supermarket car park and even cried all over a cab driver.

Floozie I'm sorry you're not sleeping well, I suppose it won't help when people inevitably say 'oh it's practice for when the baby comes!' I preempted my friend the other day and told her I would inflict bodily harm on her if she said this to me. Grin

Shield I think as you get more and more pregnant there is a slow erosion of your paitence and tolerence, theres a direct correlation. I suspect we could even get a graph to prove it as well.

Apart from that, I hope you're all well this morning. Smile

Hermya321 · 02/09/2010 12:08

Elsa I hope I didn't sound preachy at all, I've known people go through this process myself and they've said that the course wasn't that bad. My DH went for a speed awareness course last year as well and tbh I'm glad he did considering what the insurence companies do when you've got points on your licence. Thats weird about the rooms though, what if your DD is a very busy period? Weird huh! I'm glad you're getting sorted though with hospitals. You've not had a very nice time of it have you.

nymphadora · 02/09/2010 12:54

Re car insurance , it's the underwritersadding the premium. They are for life insurance too soshop around & find out who is underwriting them. We've just re done life insurance & dh got 50% extra on his for having arthritis. I haven't a price yet but already have it so only changing if it's worth it as I have a dodgy history. Add lifeinsurance to your list BTW!

Just had a walk into town ( bottom of my st!) with my mam. Had to have a couple of sit downs but was furthest I've been in ages& just had lovely bread!

hermya I got nappy bucket from hardware shop £4 if you are passing!

DillyDora · 02/09/2010 13:35

Hi Lovelies,

Just read through your posts, glad all is well looby congrats to mummywilliams if you're still checking in, of course I remember you! Hope you're doing better now you have the crutches Nymph. Well done to those who have got past their 'scary week'!!! YAY! I didn't realise but my DH was holding his breath for 30+4 as that's when his sons were born, I'm such an idiot, I just thought as it was a different person with just a singleton pg then there could be no comparison. Anyway, he's feeling better now but still too superstitious to buy anything, I found this out in a department store in Munich - apparently it's ok for him to give me the money and me to buy it but he can't, I had no idea he was so superstitious/worried so I feel a bit of an old cow bag really.

First ante-natal class last night, no new news but like the woman who runs it. Did wonder if any of you were there! It was in Muswell Hill....

Elsa can't you explain to the polis that as a spy you know all about driving?

Shieldbug glad your baby's kiddleys are just fine!

Sorry to anyone I've missed.

BTW went to that wedding in Bavaria, all very lovely and got told 150 times how small my bump is till even DH was getting Angry but it was great fun and I felt not too fattish (and I wore support socks to the day ceremony so I could have ankles for the evening party!!! Wink

lainacheek · 02/09/2010 13:41

hi, i am a mum of two and now training to be a child psychotherapist. a special part of the training is observing a mum and her baby for the first two years of life. i would visit once a week for an hour and just watch and not participate. its really just about seeing the baby develop especially the communication between baby and mum. i live in north london so local would be ideal but also happy to travel. if you think you are interested and you are due towards the end of oct or beginning of nov then please either reply to thread or email me [email protected]. thanks and all the best everyone

Elsa123 · 02/09/2010 14:16

Good luck with your training Lainacheek.

Hermya no, not patronising at all, very useful as I have no knowledge of any of this process or the impact of points on the license re insurance. On the car I'd written off I'd never so much as got a chip on the windscreen, so its all new to me. I'm not saying I'm a good driver, just a lucky one! Your independent view does encourage me to just do the course. If as the police say I can do it in Lincolnshire, then hopefully my mum can baby sit for that day and you never know, i may have got the hang of pumping, so I can provide some expressed milk (thats if breastfeeding goes to plan- it may be SMA Gold by then....she says keeping options open so she doesn't beat herself up through dashed expectations...).

Dilly i was hoping for some kind of dispensation Wink but it seems being pregnant is getting me further than my job...

I've just been downstairs to see my friend who was visiting London for work yesterday and she got me some chocolate from Fortnum and Mason. I've had a square and its now taunting me! She's so generous- but made up for that by publicly laughing at my bump. She's the Equality and Diversity Policy Officer for the company...cow Grin.

moonstorm · 02/09/2010 18:40

Can ane teachers help urgently? (I'll write on here propery later)

I'm feeling really upset and stressed - I work on Mondays and tuesday normally. This week there have been some training days at work (Wed-Fri). I haven't gone in as I don't work on these days and I had confirmed in advance that I wouldn;'t be coming in (this being just about the gestation ds was borna and all that, I'm not doing anything extra - sorry of that's selfish). I've just found two really snotty emails in my work inbox asking why I'm the only member of part time staff in...

Normally I do try to make all training days, but it's my understadning that you can't be made to work the days you don't work. Am I definitely correct on this? I have found loads of stuff on the NUT website confirming this, but I want to make sure I'm right and that this isn't just their opinion.

I'll do anything for the children I work for, but these trainign days aren't even relevant to me.

I'm sure my blood pressure is thourgh the roof - these things don't normally bother me. I don't want to go back to work now. There wasn't even a 'is everything ok?' sentence. They were just realloy rude!!

Hope this makes sesne I'm hurrying

nymphadora · 02/09/2010 20:11

You have to do the proportion of inset that your contracted for . In your case 2/5. If they were compulsory your head could offer to pay you for those days or you could use them as your proportion for the year IYSWIM.
