Oh and its thunderbolts and lightening outside....if we have a powercut I think I might just cry....

jennimoo · 23/09/2010 19:31

Hermya - I find it kind of annoying people telling me what I can and can't do, they are often wrong! They insisted I was eating mussels 'at my own risk' in a restaurant as they said I shouldn't have them! I also got in to a heated debate at work when a random stranger didn't want me carrying something, and I insisted it was not a problem! I am also more stubborn while pg I think, which is unfortunate for those who try and tell me what to do!

I managed to get a bit more sewing done today, and have got the birth pool more or less in position, and all the necessary stuff nearby (with dh help!) Also cooked a couple of carrot cakes, for the freezer, and bought some last baby bits I needed.

Let's hope we all sleep a bit better tonight, and don't feel so sick. I've been fine during the day though so fingers crossed.

I'm off to nibble on a pineapple now ;)

38+2 (got it wrong this morning!)

jennimoo · 23/09/2010 19:34

Elsa - sharp pains? You are full term today so may be baby is ready?

Every time I hold my belly DH looks at me wondering if this is it, and I have to tell him I have no idea what contractions feel like, but guess I'll know when the time comes!

Hermya321 · 23/09/2010 19:37

Elsa I'm sorry you feel so pants, can you call a friend at all? Run yourself a bath and see if that'll take the edge off a little. If nothing else, it might help you relax a little. I hope you feel better soon.

Tyson86 · 23/09/2010 19:39

Hello all
Went shopping round town for winter clothes for ds as noticed his wardrobe had been ignored cos of baby shopping bless him, was in town from 1pm till 6.30pm, im absolutely knackered now and my back is hurting loads, first time im really hoping i dont go into labour tonight as really need my sleep Grin

moonstorm · 23/09/2010 21:24

Hello all!

Seashells I'm going on both dates - I'm 37 weeks today, but 4 days behind according to my (ov) dates. So really happy to be 37 weeks todat, but will be happier in 4 days!!

Had consultant appointment today - baby 3/5 engaged - hope it stays there! Could explain why my pelvis is suddenly worse, though. All good to go Smile

Planning to book my labour for a week on Saturday- Monday as it's most convenient. Hope my body is listening!

Had to buy new laptop as I handed mine back to work - [poor emoticon] now have to get used to a new keyboard...

Hope you all sleep better tonight Smile

Elsa123 · 23/09/2010 21:41

Thanks Hermya Thunderstorm over and laptop back on. The paracetamol has helped a little. I had a bath late this afternoon which also helped and I'm sure would help even more if I could fill it enough to cover more of my bump Smile. I've still got a fuggy head though.

Jennimoo, the pains are pretty bad/sharp but I don't think its anything early as its a bit to random, low and localised but then how do I know?!! We'll see- I shall try and relax. Friday and the weekend tomorrow x x

floozietoozie · 23/09/2010 23:45

Elsa howfar away is your DH? just in case!

Seashells my lmp and scan dates are the samebut I know my friend who was here at theweekend was convinced she was about two weeks behind what the scan said. She went 14 days "over" and had to be induced, but when the baby arrived her midwife took one look and said there was no way the baby was two weeks late, so she might have been right.

Thanks for the good wishes earlier. It must have been just a small bug or something I ate cos it cleared. I'm just worried now about getting reactive constipation!

Brain failing me on the rest of your posts. Really wondeing what's happening with meansbeans though.

We went to visit a school this afternoon and have put ds's name down for next year. Seems ridiculously early but a friend told me they fill up a list so wanted to get in in time. I always thought the local authority allocated all places but the head said if you were on the list you were pretty much guaranteed a place. It's not actually our catchment school even though it's in the next street down so hope she's right.

FingonTheValiant · 24/09/2010 02:21

GAH!! I JUST WANT TO SLEEP!!! Why is that so bl*y hard?

I seriously think the next person who tells me to make the most of the last few weeks without the baby and sleep loads will be in danger of losing a limb!

And I've got a stonking cold. I'm sure the inability to breathe is not helping.

meanbeans I hope all is going well! I've got my fingers crossed that you have a beautiful baby by now.

Elsa I've been wondering the same thing - with so many pains, niggles and tightenings down there how on earth do you know what's what? Thinking of you though, just in case it's all go!

Moonstorm I'm so jealous of your 3/5 baby. Mine is 37+5 and only 1/5 :( was bouncing on a ball like a maniac yesterday trying to make him drop - not happening though.

Dh has announced that the baby can put in an appearance from the 4th Oct, I've told him he's being selfish, the baby is more than welcome as soon as he wants :o Honestly, another 10 days!! Although that still puts me a week before my EDD.

I was really hoping the full moon theory would turn out to be true tonight, but all it's done is give me nightmares and stop me sleeping.

Tyson really hoping your get all the sleep you're after, sounds like you need it after a shopping marathon.

Jenimoo can't believe how efficient you were today (yesterday). Sewing, baking and setting up a birth pool - I really need to give myself a kick up the backside and get on top of things!

Hope everyone else is sleeping happily, this thread has had far too many early morning posts. I wonder if all antenatal threads become sleep-deprived at about this point?

Take care all :) x

SamanthaB123 · 24/09/2010 03:46

Also awake...just off to get some cornflakes.

nymphadora · 24/09/2010 05:36

I'm awake too.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 24/09/2010 05:38

Hermya, there's a fridge in my room at hospital. It will have 4 bottles of champagne and a camembert in it!

Tyson 5 and a half hours shopping Shock, you must be knackered.

Well, since doc gave me zantac (ranitidine), I've been feeling a bit better and no more reflux. Hurray.

Off to the local expat club today for a big lunch. No cooking for me.

34+6 today. Hang on babe for at at least 14 more days.

nymphadora · 24/09/2010 06:00

Will you lot stop talking about food in the middle of the night I keep having to get up & eat Blush

Car going for its MOT today so off out for lunch while its there. My 'terrible thing' (sounds v OTT now Blush) got sorted yesterday but not allowed to tell anyone yet, probably tonight though.I'm feeling so relieved now :)

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 24/09/2010 06:50

Yey nymph! what a relief :) hope you can relax and celebrate today.

Dh and ds are still sleeping away, lazy so and sos.

No full moon baby for me, think I'm going to tryto distract myself (hard when everyone asks how you are)

Elsa123 · 24/09/2010 08:55

Morning all. I'm feeling much better after a decent night's sleep, only about 4 occasions where I needed to go to the loo!

Thats good news Nymph!

I'm glad that your reflux is better with the Zantac ILGH. I bought some and it did naff all for me! However, I say this gingerly...I haven't had reflux for quite a few days now...

37+1

Hermya321 · 24/09/2010 09:21

Morning all!! I actually slept quite well last night, very surprising but none the less welcome.

I'm sorry to all those who haven't slept well last night. I hope your days are a bit more relaxing.

ILGH Good combination, I like it.

Seashells Thats one of the reasons I'm not going to put a countdown on FB, my MIL asked me if I was going to do it. But I can forsee that people will just be texting me going 'is he here yet?'. My friend got so fed up with people asking her that she didn't come to church for a month.

shieldbug · 24/09/2010 10:14

36+6 One more day then baby can be born as soon as it likes (hint hint, sproglet). Dh says the consultant reckons it could be 3-2 weeks early (I don't remember her saying that at all, but I was rather distracted, worrying about the possible kidney problem at the time). Anyway, that means I'll be "in the zone" as of tomorrow!! Sproglet isn't even vaguely engaged though as I am still getting lots of heavy- duty rib kicks and it wriggles away like a mad thing! It really does feel like an excitable baby.

moonstorm lol at the idea of booking your labour...now wouldn't that be convenient?

Had a good night's sleep last night and feel fantastic as a result. Glad you slept well too Hermya. Sorry to hear lots of you are still struggling in that department and hope tonight is better.

Elsa Good to hear you are feeling better. I reckon we'll all have lots of false alarms wondering if it's all systems go. (Or at least for those of us who are first-timers and really haven't a clue).

meanbeans I'm guessing the silence means there might be news? Hope everything is going well for you.

floozietoozie · 24/09/2010 10:28

Shieldbug I haven't got a clue either because if I start having contractions before my waters break it will be a new experience for me too. I was just thinking the other day I don't really know what you are supposed to do about going to hospital in that scenario - how far apart are contractions supposed to be? Do you always go once waters have broken or wait to be in established labour? I don't want to be on hospital too long before it happens especially if I'm monitored but equally as it was quite fast once contractions happened last tome I don't want to be having the baby in a taxi. Dp can't drive - can you drive yourself in earlu labour or is that a bit ill-advised???

V tired and depressed today. Hope you all feel better, glad some of you slept well.

  1. Another week on, hurrah.
sam12 · 24/09/2010 10:32

Hermya Yeah am so relieved and dh is off to buy some extensions cables today. We've got lots of helpers in for the weekend and hope we can get in mid next week. So baby needs to stay firmly put for at least another week!
Secondary teaching is not as bad as people tend to think it is. I really love it and teenagers are (on the whole) such good fun.

Jenimoo I totally agree with you on being annoyed when people tell you what to do. My MIL as been the main culprit and I have had to bite my tongue a few times.

Nymph Am glad it has worked out for you- it must be such a relief.

Last day of work today and have nothing at all left to do as I have done all the handover stuff so mooching around on the internet pretending to be busy. It is really making it sink in though- before the thought of having a baby was one of those far off ah that will be nice feelings- and now it is hitting me that is real as I am leaving work to prepare for it and it will be reality very soon.

Hope you all have a good day

Hermya321 · 24/09/2010 10:34

Floozie After a very detailed chat with my doula last night, she said to me that my local hospital like to wait until you're about 4 - 5 minutes apart, I think they like to at least hear from you if your waters have broken and you can go in if you can no longer cope at home and want some magical lovely pain relief. I think if you give in touch with the midwife they should be able to tell you whens best to come in. My midwife said that its best if you ring them as they can often tell by the sound of your voice how you're doing. Don't ask me how they do that though.

jennimoo · 24/09/2010 11:41

I was told it's contractions about 5 mins apart, lasting about 1 min each that signals head for hospital, depending how far away you are though I guess. I read that in established labour you can't talk through contractions, so that's how they tell on the phone.

Elsa123 · 24/09/2010 12:06

Jennimoo At my ante-natal class they said 3 contractions in 10 minutes. As I live about an hour away from the hospital I think it would be more sensible to go with the 4-5 mins apart. I have to say, the last thing I'd want would be to get there and be turned away, due to the length of the journey, this would not be my ideal. My colleague was telling me the other day that he and his wife rocked up to the hospital and they refused to believe she was in established labour (without checking) and it was her second so she did have a clue. They refused to go and said that they would wait in the carpark if they weren't allowed in. They were reluctantly allowed in, with the staff saying that they were being over anxious and she had her DS2 20 minutes later. I hasten to add this was not at the hospital I am going to!

I'm not sure about this not being able to talk through the contraction thang as yesterday night, the pains I had were too sharp to talk.

AbFabT · 24/09/2010 12:20

Meansbeans, where are you?!

Glad a few of you slept last night, sorry to hear some still didn't. Not sure being online when you can't sleep is wise - it's meant to stimulate your brain and make things worse.

Maybe we'll all happen on the next full moon! :) Only a month to go!

SeaShells, re dates, well, I've always thought it's best to not be too focussed on a date - it's so rough anyway. They don't take into account that everyone's cycles are not 28 days, they don't take into account that some months are shorter than others, so I think there really is quite a large date range we can deliver in that should be considered 'normal' and right for us and our babies. And I calculated that when they have me as conceiving, I know we didn't, it would have been at least three days later, so it's best not to be too set on a due date.
As such, though I am still stating I am 38+5 or whatever, I could well see the 4th October go past, and not be that bothered. And anyway, I am aiming for 10/10/10, just because I like it! :)

I'm not concerned about knowing if "this is finally it" when I feel anything like contractions - we've been told to call the midwife unit when we think we're having contractions, and they can tell from what you say/how you sound how things are, and direct you as to when you should go in (or when they'll come to you, if it's a homebirth).

nymph, glad 'the thing' seems to be ok now. Will you tell us later?

Fingon, get well soon.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 24/09/2010 12:48

Abfab- I totally agree! LO was a "one hit wonder" Wink as I had been so ill, moving house etc, and my cycle was all over the place as it had only just returned post mc. It's just because ds caught us unawares, I'm obcessing more this time!! Plus I'm anxious as childcare is involved whereas last time I was so far from family we only needed to worry about ourselves!!

Nevermind, ds is being cute, and third and bird us on, so there is peace in the house for once!
