Warning - hormonal wailing pg woman alert!

The cats have fleas! Aaaaaaagh! Treated them 2 weeks ago with Frontline Combo and used a special flea killer spray around the house like a manic woman, but have discovered cats still have them today! Waaaaah! Have rung vet insisting that I want appointment today as not having fleas in house when due baby - receptionist was very calm and got me an appointment. She also said that a lot of peeps are struggling with fleas at the mo.

What more annoying is that we know that the fleas must have come in with someone, as our cats are indoor cats and so no chance of them picking it up from outside.

On the plus side have take delivery of my nice new bedroom carpet - which I have promptly sprayed with flea killer manically to prevent fleas from setting up home on it.

Slept badly last night as DH woke me up at 3am when he went to the loo, and I then didn't fall asleep again until 6.30am only to have to get up less than a hour later to take DD to school.

Baby very active today which is good as was a bit on the quiet side yesterday.

Right well I'm off to try and fig how to spray upstairs with mountain of stuff everywhere due to our room being totally free of stuff, and the other 2 rooms totally full of stuff so can't gain access to spray easily in those rooms. Sad

Anyone got some jolly news to share to take my mind off the fleas issue?!!!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/09/2010 12:10

Eek! Treat cats again, vacuum everywhere twice over (especially sofa/cat beds/wherever they sleep/down sides of skirting boards) to get eggs and larvae up, then spray house and go out for the day - Something like vetkem acclaim is good, but not something pg people should do so get dp doing it!!.

There will have been a new hatching (have you turned you ch on?) so keep on topmof it for a few more months until all the eggs/larvae in environment are dead/gone.

I have no fun news I'm afraid to take your mind off it!

Hermya321 · 20/09/2010 12:15

Richard Armitage is still single, that thought always cheers me up. Especially after I watch North and South. Mr Darcy can't hold a candle to him.

moonstorm · 20/09/2010 13:45

Nymph sorry about the piles Sad hope they magically clear up as soon as they came.

Bionic poor you ? I hate fleas, just keep blasting them.

Sorry I can?t remember too much of what?s said! I?m at work again and typing a sneaky post, so can?t take notes! I just hope everyone who needs sleep can get some tonight and that all of you who are suffering get some respite from pain. Hope nobody newly pregnant is reading this thread, otherwise we?ll worry them about what?s to come!!

I have two days left at work! Woohoo!! Just need to get through them without my waters going and I?ll be a happy girl! We?ve nearly got the house back in order after builder and decorators, so looking forward to a rest on Wednesday after I?ve finished work and when ds is at nursery.

36+4

Tyson86 · 20/09/2010 15:29

Im really annoyed, took ds to soft play as next 2 days he is at playgroup and im going to miss him, the bloody soft play is closed on a monday! He was devastated :(
Then went to the storage to remind myself what my graco was and it is a vivo so the buggypod wont fit, back to looking at tandems. I shouldnt of left the house today.

Bionic What an awful timing the fleas have.

Seashells Cant believe you are in your 338th week, seems so close Grin

nymphadora · 20/09/2010 15:38

tyson I think seashells is a bit overdue by your calculations Wink

I've just been to pick up the kids from their trip. parked about 200m away & took forever to get there and was then told they are running an hour late! I almost cried and the teacher took me inside for a drink then offered to bring them home for me. Blush so at least i don't have to go out again. Its a bad day pain wise and dh won't be home til 7:30. was hoping to take kids to Co op on the way home to do my shopping too (I've eaten all the ice again!) so will have to see if dh will fit it in but he said it was pushing it to be home for 7:30 so doubt it.

AbFabT · 20/09/2010 16:30

Fingon, your Carpal Tunnel sounds terrible. I have a touch of it, and had reflexology last week and it felt great - that's my top tip. And putting my hands in warm water also seems to help. And rotating your wrists. But it's not as bad as yours to start with, so I'm not promising a fix here, but maybe it'll help a little.

Great you have been approved for the homebirth! Me too! Just ordered my pool, and we just got back from Homebase with shower curtains for the sofa ... and stuff for the ceiling!

DH wants to try and fix the ceiling himself - he has become all dad-like and handymanish, which I am totally supportive of, bless him! DB is offering to help as much as he can, poor bro, he does feel dreadful.

Yikes at all of your family going through the ceilings! What I want to know is, why don't they make the ceilings stronger? Seriously, seems like a major design floor flaw!

nymph, aw, poor you re the piles. I have escaped so far, but I can tell you that in my AnteNatal Yoga class the teacher gives us exercises to do that aim to reduce the chance of getting them, or, reduce/minimise/eliminate them if you do get them - basically it's doing your pelvic floor exercises, but for your anus, so clench and unclench, suck in, breathe out. Don't know if it really works, but might be worth a go. Sorry you are struggling with everything else too, SPD and other pains, AND running around after your children. It will be such a relief when this baby arrives, huh! How lovely of the teacher though.

meansbeans, and dontstop, wow, so close! Best of luck to you! Really looking forward to your update with baby!

Had my 38-week check today, at the same time they did the home assessment - baby small, she thinks, but fine, all signs good, heartbeat/urine/bp etc. And baby started hiccuping when the mw was listening for the heartbeat, it was lovely. And so yes, homebirth approved, pool ordered (yikes, £££!), and hopefully I'll get the homebirth as hoped!

38 weeks.

Hey Lovelies, only got 5 mins - Mum's here which is lovely but of course I overdid it cleaning the house this a.m. and I need to lie down while she naps (yes, I have a mum who naps!) I ended up very very sore earlier.

So sorry for fleas and piles and carpal tunnel and SPD and everything Sad poor everyone! Not too long to go for us now.

Good luck to dontstopme and *meanbeans!!!!!

thinking of you all!
xx

Tyson86 · 20/09/2010 18:13

PMSL Thanks Nymph x

Tyson86 · 20/09/2010 18:37

Yippee, MIL is buying me the tandem i want Grin

Elsa123 · 20/09/2010 19:20

Evening everyone- I had a good day today- nice hair do and then I met my friend who I have not seen for 18 months and she's offered me a breast pump and car seat which is great as my carseat is 0-4 years but a 0-9 month one would be useful for short trips where it could easily be taken out of the car. She assured me its been in no accidents!

Congratulations on the homebirth approvals Fingon and AbFabT its all slotting into place nicely for you.

Bionic what awful timing- I was thinking about this the other day and wormed the dogs yesterday but need to put flea drops on. Do you do the regular on the shoulder blade flea drops for cats? I use those for my dogs (I think cats need a different type) and they've never had fleas....however they did get mites once and I swapped to a different type of drops that also treat those, so your vet should be able to advise. Are you sure they're fleas and not mites? Pants as you've got indoor cats, something or someone must have brought them in.

Well it looks like most of us got a rubbish nights sleep last night what with reflux, sore hips, carpel tunnel syndrome, insomnia, other DCs etc etc...I hope tonight is better, finger crossed (apart from you Fingon crossing your fingers might make it worse Grin. x x

Thirdtimer · 20/09/2010 20:17

Ahhh I've found you all! I know - I've been very absent for a while... but I'm still here. Been suffering with a rash (see other thread about itching... dunno how to do fancy linky thingies) and heartburn has got so bad I'm on ranitidene twice a day. Hips close to breaking, nights are hellish but otherwise all well! Not!!! But hey, not long now! 35+5...

Hermya321 · 20/09/2010 20:39

Congrats on the homebirth approval Abfab and Flingon!!

Tyson Woop!!! Nice one MIL!

Gosh we're all falling apart on here aren't we, is there anyone who is actually feeling semi normal or is that just some dim and distant hope?

I have spent the day on the sofa, I do not see this changing. I've been thinking today that I may be too knackered to go back to work. I'm going to ring them tomorrow and see about starting maternity leave a week earlier than I planned. It's only a week, we'll cope and I can fall apart guilt free.

I better pray the LO shows his face around the 37 week mark. The last time I checked me and the big dude in the sky were still on good terms.

I find it somewhat ironic that the majority of us are becoming insomniacs considering we're due to be giving birth in the particulary spooky month of October.

How is everyone else tonight?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/09/2010 20:49

Hello Hermya I'm here! Just spent 45mins on the phone to mum- everyone seems on edge waiting to hear news lol.

I'm not too bad ( and that is not meant to sound smug) my vvv don't hurt and my cts seems very very variable, so I'm counting my blessings considering I'm 38 weeks. Must be building up to a horrendous post natal phase!

I am currently watching every costume drama I can (Jane Austin being my default sickie tv) so need to move on to something different very soon. I never watched the sopranos and quite fancy getting into those. Did anyone read about those nutters who watched all the Lost episodes back to back in a cinema over the weekend?! I couldn't get into the first series and that was meant to be the better one!

nymphadora · 20/09/2010 20:53

hermya I think the people who aren't falling apart ate the ones who we haven't seen for ages cos they don't need to moan/get advice

thirdtimer nice to see you back, think we are due the same day.

Hermya321 · 20/09/2010 21:04

seashells I'm glad you don't feel so bad, ironically Jane Austen is my go to when I feel like crap. Watched the entirity of Pride and Prejudice today (BBC version). I love it, but I have been spoiled by North and South with Richard Armitage. Oooooo he can smolder!!

Nymph I think you're right, us moanies should probably stick together eh. Wink

I've just been looking in the mirror and I think my bump has dropped, would explain why I'm getting up to go to the loo every ten minutes and why I've fallen over and walked into a door today. Apparently once the bump drops your centre of gravity shifts and you can become a bit clumsy again.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/09/2010 21:09

There is alot of truth in that nymph! I spend slot of my evenings on mn as having ds and being 38wks means I'm good for nothing other than Internet or tv or book! My mn obcession started when I was chained to the sofa by a continually bfing baby, and met a whole online community stick in exact same position!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/09/2010 21:23

Yum yum RA is scrumptious! I was enjoying johnnie lee miller as knightley in the BBC Emma-always had a soft spot for him Wink

Have you seen that jilly Cooper has got a new book out in time for our baby sleep deprived days - I need to get my hands on it (good trash).

I am embarrassed to list my current reads/tv programmer. I am a well read person, honest!!!!

Elsa123 · 20/09/2010 21:32

LOL Nymph good point!

Hermya I know what you mean about the bumping into things and falling over. I fell over good and proper on my dog walk 2 days ago. In my defence I did put my foot down a rabbit hole. fortunately DH was with me and hauled me upright again.

I've just been chastised by my DH over the phone- once again I won't see him all week and I have so much on that it feels like all go, what with tidying the house, grouting the bathroom, running errands, twice daily dog walking, more carpets being fitted etc etc. He doesn't want me being a zombie by the weekend and would rather I laid up all week so I had the energy to be with him at weekends...now I hasten to add that the energy would be used doing all the DIY and tidying that I would have been doing during the week. Because you see if I did it during the week, there would be new stuff to do at the weekend (the never ending hum drum of self building)...bit of a vicious circle really. I would lie up, really I would but I feel so guilty for having done naff all ( apart from growing a baby of course). Also, my sister is in the country and wants to come over with her 2 children tomorrow and then wants to go shopping on Thursday.

From next week I'll be cooling my heels in Bucks during the week as I want to be close to my hospital not 3 hours away which I am right now. Of course I can still think of loads to do down there Smile.

Welcome back Thirdtimer!

Elsa123 · 20/09/2010 21:33

But I am getting a leg massage tomorrow afternoon and a manicure and pedicure the following day Grin. The pedicure is absolutely essential as I struggle to put socks and shoes on let alone cut my toenails!

AbFabT · 20/09/2010 21:40

I didn't want to sound smug, gloat and make you all sick, but Hermya, I'm actually feeling fab! I have slightly swollen ankles and wrists, but apart from that, nothing. I'm even sleeping brilliantly, some nights I don't even disturb myself with a toilet break, and if I do have to go to the toilet, I've always been able to drop straight back to sleep. I hope I've not jinxed myself now and will be having aches and sleepless nights for the next however many weeks.

I never got morning sickness, nothing!

Do of course have ceiling dramas to contend with though!

Hermya321 · 20/09/2010 21:53

Abfab I think after all the dramas at work that you had to endure I'm glad your pregnancy is going well. So karmically, you're ok (plus I've met you and you're too nice to be considered smug). I figure that my crappy pregnancy may hopefully balance itself out with a nice birth and a quick reduction in the tummy department. Well I can dream can't I.

Some looser of epic proportions outbid me on ebay for some baby bits I wanted. Would I be unreasonable to send a terse ebay war email?

Seashells I'm not ashamed of my crappy TV watching at the moment, I consider it essential training for breastfeeding. Mind you, you were watching Jane Austen that counts as culture. JLM just adds to the visual appeal, I'm sure you were comparing and contrasting the womans role in society in JA's time to that of today.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 20/09/2010 22:10

Blush I actually was Hermya. I was also, whilst perving studying jlm's acting, trying to work out whether knightley and emma's relationship was healthy or not. I think sgb and the feminism lot would have one or two things to say!

Elsa- as resident vet on this thread I advise that your dog can cope on one walk a day for the next few weeks, or even better get a dog walker in (mine is the third number on my "I'm in labour" list, as there is no way my poor old boy will walked for the first week!) Grin

Hermya321 · 20/09/2010 22:17

Go Seashells, I suspect that Emma and Knightlys relationship was one of the more healthly ones of the entire lot. At least they were friends before they took the leap. Whilst Mr and Mrs Darcy, it took a tour round Darcys house and him rescuing her sister to realise that the bloke was sort of alright. Although I love that book, it still annoys me that there is a very big undercurrent of monetary value going on in reference to the relationships. Look at Bingley and Jane, the guy up and leaves her and yet when he comes back she still think the sun shines out of his unmentionables. If there was a relationship to be worried about, it would be theres. Sorry I think I got a bit carried away there.

Abfab Do you get the Green Parent magazine, just heard that there is going to be an article on Vegan parenting in there this month.

Elsa123 · 20/09/2010 22:20

Grin Seashells I'd rather drop something else off my things to do list than dog walking as it gets me in the fresh air and the dogs genuinely make me smile with their antics. I know they'd cope, but the constant pacing, whining, big eyes and pawing at the door would drive me to distraction! My Scottie would be fine to bimble in the garden, but the Spaniel would be even more hyper than normal!

I think I need to start sorting out my things to watch! Jane Austen is looking like a great idea. I wonder what other box sets would be good to get? There are loads of drama series aired recently that I haven't seen. In fact, most of them. Does anyone have any recommendations?
