vjoy · 28/08/2010 21:57

Hi all,
I'm new to mumsnet & 1st time pregnant too. Due date is at the end of April but I feel a bit better joining the May crowd as I don't seem to be left behind.
I'm 5 weeks now - went to my gp on Wednesday. Apparently I have to wait until 8-12 wks for an appointment with a midwife. This is south London. Is this normal, having to wait so long?
Symptoms wise - some morning sickness since Friday (not fun) and back pain.
Has anyone else got some pre-existing health conditions? I've got Fibromyalgia and Hypermobility Syndrome. Basically, being very flexible and having chronic pain at the same time. Fun. I'm just a bit worried my pain levels are going to increase a lot during pregnancy.
Anyway, sorry for the long blurb. It's great to be here :)

tummytickler · 28/08/2010 22:21

vjoy welcome! I am off to bed now, as I am really shattered!
I am in SE and we see the midwife at about 8 weeks, but she arranges the 12 week scan here so 12 weeks seems very late to me! Here it is at about 8 weeks, scan at 12 weeks and then another mw appointment at 16 weeks (I think!).
I have a dodgy back too! Need to stuff the duvet under it, ot it is really uncomfy - wonder if it is a symptom or just my old age Grin.
Right to bed! Have a good night!

MaggieMac · 28/08/2010 22:51

Hi,

We just found out today that we are expecting No#2. I had thought / hoped that I might be so am absolutely delighted.

Congratulations to everyone.

Yorkstar · 29/08/2010 07:23

Morning all :)

Congratulations and welcome to newcomers.
How old is your first Maggie? my ds is 22 months this weekend.

Normal round here too not to see mw till 8/9 weeks. Last pregnancy i didn't get my 12 week scan until 16 weeks as they were so busy so we paid for a private one. Have got my booking in appointment for 22nd Sep when i will be 8 and a half weeks.

Iv had more cramps this weekend too and was in bed by 9pm last night but ds gets up so early, i need to just to simply get through day!

tummytickler · 29/08/2010 08:26

yorkstar your appointment is on my birthday :)

maggie Congratulations!

I can't believe I am out of bed - I am so tired, ds tried to get out of bed for the day at 3am, but luckily dh sorted it Grin.
Roll on bed time!

MummyWilliams · 29/08/2010 18:37

Hello everyone! Will it be ok to join in?

Many, many congratulations to you all.

BFP yesterday. Extremely nervous and very scared after two 2nd trimester losses, (April 2009 and most recently April 2010).

Hoping so much that this one will go the distance.

Shall we start a stat list. Fingers crossed I will get to stay on this one.

Hi everyone!

Congratulations Vjoy, Maggiemac and MummyWilliams

Just to reassure Nhomi I have had cramping and had a lot with my first pregnancy also and all seems well!
I had a very exciting letter arranging my booking in appointment for the 25th Sept and scan 21 Oct!!

How are we all feeling?
I am shattered, hormonal, lightheaded and STARVING! I have a preggy belly and believe I am going to need Maternity trousers very soon! DH has even noticed my belly which is the most worrying, I am having to cover up.

Fingers crossed for all our lovely sticky beans!

Welcome to MummyWilliams, really Sad to hear of your previous mc. Fingers crossed for third time lucky.

Ooh how exciting to hear about your scan date already Purple. I can't wait.

I know what you mean too about bigger belly already, im only 5 weeks but having trouble doing my trousers up already and my boobs are popping out of all my bras Blush

Purplebuns · 29/08/2010 21:12

I noticed my tummy on saturday as my work trousers which were too big are feeling tight!
My belly is visibly doubled in size and I know I haven't eaten THAT much. I guess it is due to this being my second pregnancy?
Luckily my boobs haven't grown so much but they couldn't get much bigger anyway.. I am producing more milk which DD doesn't seem to mind.

Do you just put this bit at the bottom of each of the posts?

Congratulations MummyWilliams

Yorkstar my DD is 26 months. We visited a two week old today, DD was fine when I was holding the baby but afterwards kept saying "my mummy, MY mummy! and holding onto me" - there could be trouble ahead..

I am definately eating for two but as I have been dieting since March I think it is more because I can rather than need to.

I've added mine:

Purplebuns: EDD 1st/3rd May 2011 (DD almost 16months)
Yorkstar: EDD 1st May (ds 22 months)
MummyWilliams: EDD 5th May 2011 (*7 DD9, DS7) Aged 39
MaggieMac: EDD 8th May 2011 (DD 26 months)

Purplebuns · 29/08/2010 21:45

Looking at your age gaps I am wondering if I am crazy with mine :S but then you can only have a honeymoon baby once!

MaggieMac; Glad to see I am not the only one eating everything that isn't nailed down :o

Nhomi · 29/08/2010 22:02

Hi all! Hope you are all having a good day and congratualations to our newbies!
Am so glad I am still on holidays at the moment - trying to get my head around how I am going to cope being back at work next week given how exhausted I am! So glad to know that being tired is entirely normal though from the sounds of everybody else!
Been trying to work out my due date and I have a feeling I might be due in April not May but can I please stay because I like it here :)!

tummytickler · 29/08/2010 22:57

Hi all.
Congratulations and welcome MummyWilliams!
I am wearing a maternity skirt today. I do not think i look any bigger, but I feel really bloated and just wanted to be comfy! It is a nice one, and not at all obvious as a maternity skirt so hopefully nobody noticed.
I am soooo tired still, and crampy.

Purplebuns - I wanted a birthing centre, dh not keen as it is too far away, I thought about a home birth but we are too far away from hospital imo. So hospital it is. I used to work there though and i know if a dr is involved I will get fussy about who i have!
I am not overjoyed at the prospect tbh. I normally do natural and drug free though. How about you Purple, any ideas?

Dh and I have been talking about names. It is not going well Grin. We agree on a few girls, but not boys!

Hello and congrats to everyone. I'm due 30 April according to calculator but I'm sure I'll be later so would love to join you girls. We found out on 24th and am 5 weeks. This is our first. I need to pee ALL the time and have sore boobs and period type pains. Those are a bit worrying. Hope to keep up with you guys along the way

tummytickler · 29/08/2010 23:32

Oh god, the peeing is awful! I am up and down constantly. I thought my Mum might suss when I went over to visit today, but thankfully she was a bit distracted by my aunt.
welcome and congratulations LostGeek! Is this your first dc?

LostGeek · 29/08/2010 23:47

Thanks. DH has insisted we swap sides of the bed already so I don't wake him on the way to the loo! Sorry I dunno what DC is. Still learning! New to forums as well as pregnancy

Purplebuns · 30/08/2010 10:16

Hi, LostGeek DC is dearchild/ren Acronyms are here So is this your first? Also it seems like we are all getting cramps and it is due to your womb stretching to make room.I have also added you to the list below.

Tummytickler I think I may opt for a home birth as I was interfered with too much at hospital and our local birth centre has stopped doing births :( Also I am worried I will give birth very quickly, so would like to be prepared with having the stuff at mine. I am quite scared this time :( I think I am going to try and get a debrief before this one comes!

Hi Purblebuns. Thanks! I was typing on my phone last night and was too tired to go back and google what dc is! I shoulda guessed. Thanks for the link -that will help loads. Yes - this is our first. It's comforting to know other people have the same symptoms. When it's your first (or even if it's not I guess) you just don't know what is 'normal'.

I've heard of a few people who opted for home births but all of them ended up at hospital anyway. That's what is putting me off a bit. One friend had to get a 4x4 to take her to the ambulance cos of the snow. Not a problem for May births though! Sorry to hear you are feeling apprehensive. :(

LoobyLou33 · 30/08/2010 20:11

Hello fellow-bloatees, congrats to any newcomers...

I'm so glad other people are talking about maternity wear already - I thought I was being ridiculous to consider buying stuff now, but virtually all my trousers feel way too tight! I too have caught myself walking round the office with a button undone Wink

Anyone here do shift-work? I've got 3 horrible weeks of getting up at 4.30 am for work which is just NOT what I want at 5 weeks preg! I'm freelance so no way to get out of it. Gross. It makes you feel ill at the best of times and the nausea/diziness has started kicking in. Any tips for surviving shift work at this stage? Would anyone mention it to your employer for the sake of them understanding?

tummytickler · 30/08/2010 20:25

Looby - I used to do shift work on a labour ward! Awful nightmare. I am convinced it is so bad for your body. I finished work a month ago and got pregnant straight away after a long time of trying, so I am convinced that had something to do with it. I do not envy you!

The dizziness is what i find the most difficult to handle - no tips at all I'm afraid - I have never managed to deal with it, and had to take anti sickness tablets to get through work in the past.

Glad to see you are buying maternity wear! I will tell dh that I am not the only one!

I nearly bought a buggy too. I saw a bargain Bugaboo on ebay, but dh had a fit, so I said I would wait until after Christmas Grin.
Trouble is i feel I should grab a bargain when i can.
I also bought a gorgeous sleepsuit thingy when i was out - i could not resist!

Purplebuns · 30/08/2010 20:26

Hi
Lostgeek that is why this thread is soo useful as we can all compare symptoms and relax a little.
My birth this time I am going to be a lot more firm in my birth plan and I am going to be more aware of when I can say NO! than last time and I think I am going to read up on hypnobirthing and things also.

loobylou I have already told (in confidence naturally) my employer as it could affect my working, and if anything bad happens I would rather she knew I was pregnant before. I feel sorry for you having to go to work so early you have my sympathy!

I have been wearing my old maternity jeans today... And they fit.. these are the jeans that fell down as soon as I had given birth just to demonstrate how lumpy I am already. pah.

I hope everyone is well and not too nauseous yet.. we will recount in a couple of weeks as week 7 seems to be the lucky week for that Wink

OP posts:
Yorkstar · 30/08/2010 20:36

Loobylou im back at work on Wed (i teach) and am going to see how my morning sickness goes before i decide whether to confide in my boss early on. I find that eating little but often can help even though sometimes you can't face it. Good luck!

I too suffer from the dizzyness tummytickler its been my earliest pregnancy symptom both times and agree its even worse than the sickness.

MaggieMac · 30/08/2010 21:01

hi,

Yes definately feeling the clothes a bit tight too.

Good luck Loobylou & Yorkstar, hope you get on ok. Last time round I would have something to eat before I got upright in the morning & it really helped.

tummytickler · 30/08/2010 21:12

Oh yes - have a little something to nibble on. I find coke really helps settle my something. Not something i normally drink, but i find myself quaffing the stuff back now - better than wine i suppose Grin
Hope everyones doing ok today! We went to a fete and i had to say no to the whippy ice cream :( Grin
