Here's the new thread for the September 2010 arrivals - though some babies have already come in July and August, and maybe more to come in August before we're done with this month...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I really dislike pram shoes too sassy34264, worries me about their delicate little feet.

I have a sling (not sure of the make) which I love, Luke sleeps in it most of the time. Borrowed it from a friend as when I go back to work next week I will have 4 under 4 so 2 in the double buggy, DS1 walking and Luke in the sling.

MammyG · 30/09/2010 23:15

Hi all
Have been busy cathcing up on post. Congrats to all who have had babies. Best of luck to those in waiting.
We are only just back and settled from the hospital again. Phoebe gave us a terrible fright last saturday and we had to rush back. We live two hours away so thte drive was the longest of my life. We spent 4 days there with her hooked up to all kinds of machines. Thankfully she has gotten the all clear and they think it was just a mucous plug from her lungs or possibly reflux that got stuck in her airways. Im still shattered after it all. Going from the biggest high and feeling quite smug with myself to being a terrified crumbled mess. We are really enjoying just being at home and trying to settle in a little. The boys are over the moon with their sister but are also acting up hugely as it has been a very upsetting week for them esp as we had to leave so abruptly. Dh is off work til monday and as am bfing have no idea how I am going to juggle the 3 of them! The joys!
Phoebe seems to struggle with making a poo more so than wind at the moment. But I suppose as she is only a week old wind issues wont kick in for another few days. Must pull out the old books and try to refresh!!!

bellabelly · 30/09/2010 23:54

Oh MammyG - big hugs, what a frightening thing to happen, you must have been so stressed. Glad you got the all-clear and are back home again now. And glad you've got DH with you at home - that'll probably help settle the boys too. Mine are acting up a bit too and that's without half the drama you've had to put up with.

sassy34264 · 01/10/2010 14:03

Even though i had to laugh, i'm left feeling really shit! I've just changed Jacob's bum and while i was holding his legs up to wipe his bum, he was crying a little bit- but as this is usual- i didn't pay much attention. But when i put his legs down i saw that he was soaking. He'd peed while i wasn't looking. It was dripping from his face, hair and even his ears!

Oh no. Felt really bad. Anyone else been as dozy as me......make me feel better. x

cinnamongreyhound · 01/10/2010 14:57

So sorry to hear your news MammyG but glad you are home now.

Little boys are so much fun to change sassy34264, you learn though only been got once this time around ds1 sprayed me loads of times! Don't remember him weeing on himself though, should have taken a pic Wink and don't feel bad these things happen!

Antibiotics have started working and I'm feeling better already, no signs of Luke having any negative effects from them so far.

AliKatt · 01/10/2010 16:12

Oh MammyG, that sounds awful :( You poor thing! Glad she's ok now.

sassy I'm so sorry, but that really made me laugh Wink Try not to feel bad - it won't have done him any real harm... (I'm sure something similar will happen to me in the coming weeks!!!)

cinnamon glad to hear that the mastitis is clearing up :)

Dixie hope the S&S went ok and that something starts happening for you soon...

Still waiting over here! Went out to lunch with the people from my office today. It was great to feel a little bit 'normal' and not think about this baby for a couple of hours :) I've taken a tip from JodyLea (who hopefully has had her LO now!) and booked myself in for some reflexology tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed that will get bubs moving!

AliKatt · 01/10/2010 16:13

Oops, forgot... 40+6

bananastew · 01/10/2010 19:04

MammyG how scary. Glad things are better now tho. You really must live in the back of beyond if the hospital is 2 hours away! Bet its a lovely place.

sassy that made me laugh too. Unfortunately I would have done as cinnamon said & got the camera! I got lots of photos of ds in funny situations when I should've been helping him. My 1st instinct is always grab the camera!

Looks like we're heading towards a new thread! I'd love to save this one forever! When there's so much crap going on in the world its a constant source of chuckles and happy announcements!

MammyG · 01/10/2010 22:29

Thanks all
Banana - ya Im the one living in the arse end of the back of beyond. Fab scenery and wonderful when the weather is good but I do miss the buzz of big towns and cities not to mind the services!!
Sassy - Have you heard of the peepee teepee? Mt cousin bought me a pack as a joke but if I was out and about I used them and they saved us from the spontaneous sprays. they are little triangular cloth teepees and you pop them over their willies while you are changing you them. they wont take much but it gives you a chance to grab a nappy. they are funny!
so my boobs are twice the size of Phoebes head!! They are constantly uncomfortabqle! I only managed 10 weeks with boys and think this time will be the same. not sure I am cut out for breast feeding.

beaditAli · 02/10/2010 09:30

Ha ha Sassy Little Jack did the very same thing in his first week. He's not peed on me yet but has in his own face! Grin and I was changing his little bum and hadn't noticed that he'd peed all over his vest. It was literally stuck to his chest. I too felt so cruel..... even though HE peed on himself! Smile
Any tips on how best to catch it most welcome!
Jack is still from the land of nod and last night went 5 hours without a feed. Couldn't believe it when I looked at the clock.
He does however soak through to his mattress about 3 times in the night/early morning. His clip is off so his nappies seem snug around his tum but he is always wet on his back. Just can't fathom it. Sad Confused any advice?
Alikatt...... I feel you need to do some self inducing! Wink

Mammy..... so sorry to hear of your dramatic few days. Glad you're back home with the family and things are on the up Smile
If i'm speedy enough next time with the camera I'll add a pic of Jack doing his Riverdance between nappy changes. It's hilarious!

mapletrees · 02/10/2010 11:20

Think I might have to invest in a 'peepee teepee' - Louis just weed on his dad and himself three times in one nappy change. :o In the end we decided to give him a quick dunk in the bath, and while we were enjoying a lovely post-bath snuggle, guess what he did all down my clean jeans...

As for tips on how to prevent them weeing all over themselves - I just gat a clean nappy on as quickly as possible and in the meantime make sure his willy is pointing down and there's a clean wad of loo roll nearby to catch it. He still always find the one moment when I let my guard down though :)

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2010 14:00

I have the same problem beaditAli but when it happens the nappy isn't always full so I think it's how I've put it on. If it is totally full I would suggest you get the next size up as they'll be bigger and therefore more absorbent.

A good thing to try mapletrees is to open the dirty nappy and let the air get to his bits then close it again, this usually makes them pee and you've then got time. Also open up the clean nappy so it's quicker to put on.

Swordfishtrombones · 02/10/2010 14:25

MammyG - so sorry to hear about your traumatic experience. I hope all is well now and you can relax a bit. Thank you for the wonderful tip about peepee teepees! I've just ordered some from ebay!

Maplestrees - I'm no expert (having got soaked myself at 3.30 this morning when I was bleary eyed and trying to change Finn) but we have a change mat that has a removable towelling mat (you could use a muslin maybe?) which soaks up a fair bit. Also my SIL recommended having an old muslin or flannel on the changing table to cover him as soon as the old nappy comes off. That at least gives you a fighting chance Grin.

I'm with the sleepsuits all day every day people. I have to change those often enough and they are much nicer when everyone wants to pass the baby round for cuddles - they don't let a draft in like tops and trousers!

Cluds · 02/10/2010 17:52

Hi everyone, Just a quick note to say that Jessica Grace was born at home 3.28am on 1st October. She was 8lbs 6oz. Everything is just perfect.

Mammy G i am so sorry to hear about your traumatic experience but am glad you are all back at home now. As the mother of a sick child I so know how you must have felt.
Am glad that having had two DS I don't have to worry about the wee thing! .....or does it still happen with girls???

ooosabeauta · 02/10/2010 17:59

I'm so sorry MammyG that you've had to go through that. I hope things are feeling calmer and it's lovely that the boys adore their sister Smile

Congratulations Cluds!

sassy34264 · 02/10/2010 18:03

Congratualtions cluds
Yes, it still happens with girls. Infact on a count by count basis, Isobel has peed more times than Jacob when the nappy is off. Difference is, hers only goes on the mat! :o

With regards nappies mapletrees it sounds like they aren't very good. Try, trying a few different brands. I've found Aldi to be the best so far (between Pampers, Huggies, and Morrisons).

AliKatt · 02/10/2010 18:12

Congratulations Cluds!! That's fab news :)

I wonder how JodyLea and Dixie are getting on...

I may not have my DS yet, but I'm reading the peeing tips with interest nonetheless! I'll be putting those to good use once the LO eventually arrives!

Reflexology was nice this morning - very relaxing. I had quite a few period type pains while it was going on but nothing since so no idea whether it will really help, but it can't have done any harm. Other than that, DH and I have been practicing our hypnobirthing lots today and have been for a long walk (which brought on a couple of braxton hicks). Will try to get in the mood for some more exciting self-induction methods later... not easy when you're the size of a house!

41 weeks exactly

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2010 18:51

Congratulations Cluds!!

Debs75 · 02/10/2010 19:39

Congratulations all the new mum's and babies.

Lucy weed on me within about 2 minutes of being born. The others have all manages to wee or poo on me at some point. Usually the middle of the night when i'm too tired.

I prefer sleepsuits to 'proper' outfits fot LO's. Easier to put on. doesn't ride up and so much comfier for baby. Lucy does have some outfits from friends and family and she wears them when visiting.

Lucy is a very windy baby which is odd for a breastfed baby. Most of it does tend to go through and we get some very smelly nappies.

parkj83 · 02/10/2010 20:13

Hi all,

I'm slowly making my way back to normality...!

Mary is starting to settle down, but night-times are more unsettled than days... she'll stay out for anything between an hour to 5 hours. DH and I are a wee bit tired! I do the feeds and DH the nappies.

We're co-sleeping at the moment too, as that's how she sleeps the best.

DS is smitten with Mary - he reads to her, and loves holding her too.

Our Dalmatian is so taken with her that he checks on her 1st thing in the morning, and if I leave her fussing in her carry cot for more than a minute, he comes and tells me! Yesterday, DH had her while I went to the bathroom, and she started squalling to be fed. I barely finished, and he was waiting by the door, half growled at me, ran to her, ran back to me half growled again, ran back to her... he was not impressed that I didn't match his pace! :o

On the outfit consensus, it's sleepsuits here all the way too :)

And debs, Mary's BF but windy too, and very prone to hiccups! Nappies aren't smelly though, so DH is very happy on that front lol

I've loaded a couple of pics of her on my profile - enjoy, and I'll touch base again when I'm in less of a zombie-state Wink

Congratulations to any new arrivals in the meantime though!

Dixiebell · 02/10/2010 20:59

Hi all, update from me. So I had mw yesterday, and when she listened to the heartbeat there was a bit of deceleration, which she was concerned meant the cord getting compressed. Also still wasn't sure whether I was leaking fluid. So got sent to hospital for monitoring. Then spent all day yesterday off and on the machine, heart rate seemed fine but with a couple of dips which the mws wanted to check with doctors, but there were so many c-sects going on in the hospital we ended up playing the waiting game until past midnight, when finally they gave up and sent DH home, keeping me in. Was really upset to have to stay in as I knew I wouldn't sleep, but was lucky in the end as my waters then broke (definitely!) at 2am. I imagine the two internal exams I had probably encouraged this. Not having any contractions yet, although the monitor said I was having tightenings fairly regularly, but I really couldn't feel them! Finally got sent home today, but back in at 8am tomorrow for induction because of risk of infection without my waters. All a bit of a trial, am excited it is happening now, but a bit disappointed the breaking waters haven't triggered proper contractions on their own. Anyone else ever had waters break without contractions? Never mind, not long now. I'll do a bit of ball bouncing before bed tonight. Will let you know what happens!

40+6

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2010 22:24

Fingers crossed your reflexology has done something AliKatt.

I was told that breastfed babies didn't get colic when I had DS1 Debs75 and parkj83, which was total rubbish! He screamed from 3pm-8pm every day which was clearly colic and he never had anything but breast milk. Was also a very sicky baby but still piled on the weight! Luke seems to have a hard time with wind from about 6.30-9 most evenings and he is breastfed too.

Good luck Dixiebell, will be thinking of you!

beaditAli · 02/10/2010 22:53

Congrats cluds more gorgeous news!
So... we swapped Huggies newborns for Pampers size 2 today and so far have no wee leaks but have had a monster poo leak. Not sure which I'd prefer so am at a loss for now. Will just have to keep those mattress covers handy every night me thinks Hmm
Jack is currently having his awake time 10.52pm and I suspect it could last so am leaving the two chaps downstairs with Match of the day and am taking myself to bed so sleep tight all Smile

mapletrees · 03/10/2010 11:20

Congratulations Cluds, and good luck Dixiebell and AliKatt

beaditAli we swapped from Nature Babycare to Pampers in the first week because of leaks, and haven't had any major problems since. I think some nappies just fit some babies better, so I'd second sassy in keeping trying different ones until you find ones that fit Jack well.

As for cloths, it's sleepsuits for us too, occasionally with a cardie if it's cold in the house or we're out.

Park, how sweet is your dog! Our cat has been studiously ignoring Louis, though last night he decided the pram was the best place to snuggle down and dry off. Angry I'm surprised it's taken him this long as normally he likes to claim every new chair/box/basket etc within hours of it entering the house..
