Here's the new thread for the September 2010 arrivals - though some babies have already come in July and August, and maybe more to come in August before we're done with this month...

OP posts:

bluebell4 · 27/09/2010 13:43

Hi, just to let you know that Amy Lilia was born on 18th September.
Congrats to everyone else who has had their baby and hope everyone else isn@t waitng too long

surreygirl · 27/09/2010 13:51

Another birth - baby Grace born 9th Sept, 8lb 5oz. 4.45hr labour with just gas and air and Tens...gave birth standing up with two fab midwives in local delivery suite unlike my first delivery which was an assisted one in an operating theatre...

Grace is doing well, now weighs 9lb and is a Daddy's girl already.

Today's my first day without DH at home and I'm finding it mad looking after Grace and her 2.7yr old big brother :)

Good luck to everyone with newborns / waiting for their little one to arrive....

ooosabeauta · 27/09/2010 13:55

Congratulations saoirse and bluebell, and fingers crossed for you Park!

JodeyLea I was offered a sweep for today at 40+4, so I imagine they might offer you one, or do it if you request. The midwife did say today that it's got a 1 in 6 chance of being effective though, so perhaps don't bank on it working! I didn't have one for various reasons.

I'm having a pretty terrible day as I found out at my midwife's appointment this morning that the baby has turned back-to-back. Last week I was told that she was in a perfect birthable position, and it's been the only thing getting me through the anxiety of facing birth after my last back-to-back nightmare, but now I really don't know what to do with myself. Feel totally deflated and anxious and a bit devastated really and finding it hard to stop crying. I just wasn't expecting it. Have got a consultant's appointment on Thursday now, but got to make sure I don't go into labour before then, when I'll be 41wks.

Lovely to read happy news of new babies feeding and sleeping and living out in the real world Smile

40+4

Debs75 · 27/09/2010 13:56

Congratulations Saoirse bluebell4 and anyone else I missed.
Ladyrabbit what a dreadful thing to go through so soon to the birth. Glad he is feeling better now and things are back to normal a bit.

ooosabeauta · 27/09/2010 13:57

And congratulations surreygirl! (x-posts) Grin

beaditAli · 27/09/2010 14:29

Hi all and huge congratulations to everyone else who have their gorgeous new arrivals!
Jack is a week old already and I can't believe how fast it has gone already. I did spend the first 4 days after my section on another planet though so put some of it down to that.
I saw my mw today and was dreading telling her that i'm 50/50 feeding. Jack just guzzles and guzzles and can do as much as 7oz in an hour stint between a change. I just couldn't fill him up on my own so soon after the section. I really don't know how mummies manage exclusive breast feeding after their section. Confused
She was encouraging though, and said that as I'm also expressing my flow should match his demands soon so fingers crossed. He doesn't throw anything back up either so he really does have hungry bones! Smile Smile
What have any of you done regarding finger nails? I don't know how best to trim them from his greedy little mits. Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 27/09/2010 15:00

Congratulations Saoirse, bluebell4 and surreygirl!!

I use nail clippers while Luke's sleeping beaditAli but my mum keeps telling me I should be chewing them off, yuk!!

So sorry you're still here parkj83 but glad you're feeling positive and nice and relaxed.

My little man was weighed today by the health visitor and he is now 9lb 14 1/2oz so that's 12 1/2oz weight gain in 2 weeks! He doesn't feed anywhere near as much as my first so I didn't think he'd pile the weight on like his brother did but maybe he's just more efficient at getting the milk! Health visitor also told me he has a cs head, as it's such a nice shape!

watersprite · 27/09/2010 15:55

Congratulations to all the new arrivals and sending lots and lots of labour vibes to everyone that is nearing the end of pregnancy :)

Well Maria-Ann is 6 days old today, the first few days were bliss she seemed to feed every 4 hrs and slept when she was not feeding. However since saturday I've noticed a big differance with her feeding, she will have 1oz or 2oz then go back to sleep and wake and hour and half l8t for the rest. I've tried everything to keep her a wake when feeding but she always seems to fall fast asleep after an oz or so. I've tried keeping her a wake in between feeds but fail misrably. :(

Took her to doctors today as she seems to look yellow in colour, doctor said she has slight jaundice but it's nothing to worry about. Was told to put her under the window for a while.

She is also struggling with her wind, she seems to be full off it. I've tried infacol and now she's on colief. I've also tried various bottles with different teats. (cant breastfeed)

I'm just wondering if anyone is having similar experiences with there little ones. All advice greatly appricieted :)

Chelle1986 · 27/09/2010 16:12

Hi all,

Just to let you know that Oliver Daniel Williams was born yesterday morning (26/09)at 08:19 after a 6 hour labour with just gas and air.....phew!!

Started having bad backache at 2am almost instantly 2-3 mins apart, went to hostpital at this point after 2 hours at home with pains and when got there was already 6cm dialated. Waters broke straight after internal exam.

Was then taken straight to delivery room and had urge to push with every contraction for the next 3 and a half hours - actual pushing then lasted for half hour before he was all out....! Weighing in at 7lb 12oz.

He's beautiful and feeding and sleeping well. Came home yesterday at about 6pm after 8 hours or so on the post natal ward.

Congrats too anyone I've missed whilst high on the G&A!

xxx

LadyRabbit · 27/09/2010 18:04

watersprite my lo has a tendency to fall asleep during feeds as well. I'm trying 'switch feeding' (I read about in the Sears and Sears book, my new bible!) and it's proving useful. Basically I let him feed on one boob for 10 mins when he usually nods off, then I wind him, swap boobs and let him go til he drops off, then I wind him again. I am expressing too to make night feeds faster (coz he's on demand so feeding every 2hrs at least), and I do the same, say give him 1oz, wind him, actually swap the side I'm holding him on to be consistent with boob feeds and he seems to settle ok.

We've got wind gripes here too. Trying infacol but not too much because until we establish what it was that had him out in the scbu we can't know for certain that it is actually wind or something else.

HTH!

If anyone else has any more advice I'd be grateful too.... I'm knackered from demand feeding but he lost a fair old bit of weight and 2 and a half weeks on still isn't at birth weight.

sassy34264 · 27/09/2010 18:58

ladyrabbit I've read that the first bit of your milk is more thirst quenching watery milk and then the hind milk is the more dense, calorie laden milk. (someone correct me if i'm wrong). If you're changing breasts before one is empty it would suggest you are mostly giving LO the watery milk and this may be the reason why LO isn't putting the weight back on quickly.

congrats to everyone with babies......they are coming thick and fast now.

bananastew · 27/09/2010 19:15

watersprite Some would say thats just how she feeds so let her do as she will. I however know how frustrating it can be as ds1 was the same. He was constantly falling asleep on the bottle. Have you tried tapping the bottle? I'm not sure what it does exactly, whether it knocks a drop of milk in their mouth or just stimulates the suck but it worked for us, and is helping with Oliver. He seems to suck & suck but not really get anything but if I tap it goes down better!

skyeplusbump · 27/09/2010 20:05

hello everyone, congrats on all the new babys!!
melly and comixminx i love love love the names!! Smile
arlos doing great feeding well and getting fat!
we have been on holiday to cornwall, just got back,it was lovely skye had so much fun on the beaches...i want to move there now! Grin
my bloody laptops broken, but hopefully will be fixed soon and i can check in more often! im not even going to atempt a catch up this time as thre are sooo many pages!! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 27/09/2010 20:33

My little man is the same watersprite, I don't worry so much during the day but at night I change his nappy once he's fallen asleep and that usually wakes him enough to have some more milk.

I would have thought that in 10 mins your little one is getting hind milk LadyRabbit but is there any reason why you don't put him back on the same side after you've winded him? No tips on putting on weigh, both my boys have piled it on. I'm not quite understanding why you are expressing to feed at night? I'm feeding Luke on demand and he goes between 1 1/2hr and 4hrs so hopefully it'll settle down at bit for you soon.

Congratulations Chelle1986, sounds like a good labour for your first!

For those with wind problems I found baby massage worked really wel with ds1, the sun and moon massage and bending the legs into his tummy. Will see if I can find images somewhere. So far Luke is very good with wind, burps well and doesnt seem to suffer- finger crossed he stays that way!

mapletrees · 28/09/2010 10:16

Watersprite, Maria-Ann sounds very similar to Louis. He tends to fall asleep after 5-10 mins on the boob, I burb/change him, trying to wake him up with variable success, and put him back on. He's especially bad for this at night - we can do 10 or more rounds and still when I eventually put him down, he wakes up a short time later wanting more. I'm afraid I haven't found a solution, but it's nice to know we're not abnormal. He's also very windy and I've been giving him Infacol since Sat. It seems to be making some difference - he still writhes around a bit, but is crying from it much less. :) (oh, and try not to worry about the jaundice, most babies get some, and as long as it's gone by about 3 weeks it should be fine.)

LadyRabbit, my midwife advised me to leave Louis on one side for at least 15mins to make sure he was getting enough hind milk, though I think it varies from person to person when it comes, so if you are worried about weight gain it might be worth leaving you LO a bit longer before switching sides. Also, a mw at the breastfeeding drop-in said the foremilk makes them more windy than the hind milk, so it might help with his wind too...

Congratulations saoirse, bluebell, surreygirl and Chelle

cinnamongreyhound · 28/09/2010 11:43

I can't find any images on line and I don't have scanner so I will try to describe the baby massage.

1/ Water wheel- firmly stroke from under the rib cage down the abdomen, with one hand followed by the other 6 times with each hand.

2/ Knee bend- Put knees together and then push into tummy, repeat 6 times again.

3/ Sun and Moon- firmly stroke clockwise in a full circle with one hand and then with semi circle with the other.

4/ Repeat Knee bend.

I used to do this with every nappy change and it really did help him. Hope it helps others too.

JodeyLea · 28/09/2010 11:46

Huge congrats to bluebell Surreygirl & Chelle
So many babies, bet there aren't many of us left now still to give birth.

Well, I had my MW app this morning and all is well. She told me that my appointment with the hospital (which is this Friday) will be for a sweep (if I want one)and for me to be given my Induction date. So in the meantime, I am booking myself in for a mixture of reflexology and accupressure. Anything is worth a try to try and avoid the dreaded I word. Confused

40+4

mapletrees · 28/09/2010 12:23

I have another real novice question for the more experienced mums out there.. Louis is getting more and more vocal as the days go by. Mostly this is just great, I love all his little squeeks and chirps, some of them have me and DP rolling around laughing. However, he's also doing a lot of grunting, especially when I try to put him down in the night. Sometimes it seems to be to do with wind, but others it doesn't. It really sounds like he's struggling for something, and my instinct is to pick him up and comfort him, but DP thinks he's fine and we should leave him unless he starts to cry. In the day, I just pick him up straight away, but if I do the same at night, I end up holding him and not sleeping even between feeds. Can't help but feel like I'm being selfish if I just leave him so as I can get some rest. Am I over-reacting?

whammie76 · 28/09/2010 18:38

mapletrees - my ds is 3 1/2 weeks old now and he's just started making grunting noises when he's lying down in the last couple of days. Health Visitor was in today and she thinks he may have a touch of the cold, which makes sense, as dd and myself have slight sniffles. Ds grunts a little when doing a #2, but these grunts are quite loud. H.V suggested raising his mattress and puting a bowl of water in our bedroom. DS doesn't cry when he grunts, so don't think it's bothering him too much, i just find it unpleasant listening to him. Sad

bananastew · 28/09/2010 19:37

Mapletrees as Oliver is my 2nd, unfortunately unless he's absolutely screaming, a lot of the time he has to be left. Just because I have to see to ds1. I'd be tempted to leave him if he's not crying. Its not selfish. Its important that you get your rest. I think I'd have had a different answer had this been my 1st tho!

Well. We've booked the Christening! 7th November. Just a very small do, My immediate family & our best friends. Family issues mean it has to be this way Sad. I'm disappointed as I was hoping Oliver could wear his brothers christening outfit but it'll be too big.

parkj83 · 28/09/2010 20:13

Hi ladies...

Mary Josephine arrived bright and bubbly this morning at 7.33 :)

She's clocked in at 7lb 11oz, and I'm pooped!

Just a brief outline, I was woken up by contractions at about 2.30, saw them through to 3.30 then phoned doula and mw. 4am was told I was about 4cm dilated, and it just rocketed from there! I squeaked my way through the next 3 hours, and then muddled my way into the birthing pool at about 7.15. Waters broke one contraction later, and then all of sudden I could feel her coming down the pipe :o all in all, it was ca. 10 min 2nd stage, and I managed to make it through the whole thing with nothing more than a tens machine, the pool and my doula.

DH was taking DS to school friend's house when I squeaked that I could feel the head starting to come through, and he's never moved so quick in all his life! He made it back literally just in time for when I pushed her body out.

Apart from a scare in the shower - I passed out - we're both doing fine! She's flummoxed me slightly in that she's sleeping loads between feeds! Complete opposite to DS, so really pleased.

I'm going to chip now, but many congratulations to the ladies who have also posted their LOs in the past day or so x

Thank you lots and lots to the ladies who listened to me gripe yesterday too!

bellabelly · 28/09/2010 21:13

beaditAli · 28/09/2010 21:17

I wasn't sure whether to share my birth story on here but have decided that it could help a few first time Mums in hospital be more confident than I was with asking for what they wanted.
So..... my waters went with a sudden gush late on Sunday 19th night. Well.... early hours of Monday 20th really. We rang hospital as my contractions were every four mins though only lasting 40 secs. Told they'd call back when they had room for us which was 2 hours later so we headed off.
I was checked and wasn't in established labour so went in their bath for an hour which was lovely. Contractions weren't speeding up but lasting longer so I was sent upstairs to a ward to be induced.
Once on the ward I was told I wouldn't be induced and spent the next 41/2 hours disturbing a ward full of new Mums with my moaning. I asked for pain relief and was given 2 paracetamol and told that if I had something stronger now there'd be nothing for me later. Sad Shock
I wasn't checked again so how she knew I didn't need anything is beyond me. Hmm Anyway, after being sick a lot and my husband begging for someone to see me I was finally checked and all hell broke loose as I was 9cms. Shock Shock I was SO SO mad but got on with being whisked downstairs to the delivery suite thinking I'd have little Jack in no time with gas and air. How wrong...... another four hours of pushing and having a drip increased 3 times I was on a waiting list for my c section.... all the time trying not to push him out. Gas and air and the thought of my late pooch kept me a little sane I think!
Jack was then in neo natal for 2 hours as he'd needed oxygen at birth. Sad
I'd really like to issue a complaint about the mw that literally abandoned me on that ward but she's the only one I don't remember the name of. Hmm
So, having successfully begged to be discharged after 2 nights I was sent packing with my canula still attached and no red book for Jack! An absolute farce all in all.
I'd say to anyone who might be a little reserved like me to balls up when you're in hospital and to flipping well make sure staff know you're there and give you what you ask for! Had I known the signs of being so close to pushing I'd have dragged tht mw to my bedside!
100% worth the faff for our amazing bundle though I would definitely not return to the same hospital if I ever get over the whole thing to brave doing it again.
Sorry for sharing if this frightens anyone.... we can't all have 4 hour labours but I do think I was particularly unlucky on a busy September day on Ward 2!

skyeplusbump · 28/09/2010 21:21

congrats park! so pleased for you! Arlo suprised me like that to...three weeks on and he's still at it!sleeps at night too! Grin
