Here's the new thread for the September 2010 arrivals - though some babies have already come in July and August, and maybe more to come in August before we're done with this month...

sassy34264 · 29/09/2010 09:49

Congrats park and anyone else i may have missed.

mapletrees Isobel is currently grunting away in her car seat (just got back from the school run and not took them out yet as they are sleeping)In this house it means she is trying to push air out ie, Trump!
I'm with bananastew i let them cry much more than i did with my 1st. There is not much i can do about it, if i am feeding one and the other is crying. Unless it is a really distressed cry they have to wait. No way would i have been able to do that with my 1st, that's why they are referred to (tongue in cheek) as PFB (precious first born) :o

beaditAli Sorry you had such a horrible time. I had something similiar with my 1st DD and remember thinking i will be stronger to stand up to them next time. Luckily it was a better experience this time, but they still made school boy errors that have upset me. (birth stats are wrong and there is no way of finding out the right measurements, wrong surname on all the documents, so no keepsakes)

DD1 has been off school for the last 2 days full of a cold and now Isobel has caught it. It's awful to see her little face full of snot and hear her struggling with breathing. Just hoping Jacob doesn't catch it.

Debs75 · 29/09/2010 11:18

Congratulations everyone especially Park Good things come to those who wait

Ladyrabbit I feed Lucy on one side and she tends to nod off after 10-15 mins so I wind her then when she wakes up I put her back on that breast until she finishes, then I change her nappy and if she is still hungry I offer the other breast. I was told with DD1 that you should offer the first breast until it feels empty before switching so they get the most hindmilk. I must be doing something good as Lucy is putting on at least an oz a day.

Beaditali What a carryon. The MW you want to complain about should be listed on your drug card when she gave you your paracetamol

Sassy Lucy has had a sniffle for a few days now. She isn't reaslly bad but she does have a snotty nose and is really snuffly when she drops off to sleep and wakes up. She has her 6 week check tomorrow so will ask the dr if she is still snotty.

JodeyLea · 29/09/2010 14:03

Hi ladies. Well big Congrats to you ParkJ, bet you are so happy to have you LO with you and the birth sounded amazing.

Just got back from my reflexology session so feeling very chilled. Baby was wriggling around for the first half hour and then really relaxed for the last half so I'm sure it felt stimulated by what the therapist was doing to my feet. Going to have some lunch and then catch up on the TV I recorded at the weekend. Very chilled afternoon planned! Keeping fingers crossed something will happen before next Wednesday (assuming this will be induction day)

Congrats Park, I've updated the list for you. Not many regular posters left to go...can't believe could still be another 11 days to wait for me (10/10/10 would be DD+14 for me), but not stressing about it! I have just attempted a walk round the block to post a birthday card, and was huffing and puffing like anything by the time I got back. Now for a nap methinks...!

Can I just ask all you who've now been through it about the S&S? I'll be offered one on Friday if bubs hasn't come before then, and assumed I'd go with it, but are there any reasons not to have it (other than it being uncomfortable)? Did anyone decide to refuse it, and if so, why?

Monstermuncher · 29/09/2010 15:18

Yay Park at last! Congratulations :)

mapletrees · 29/09/2010 15:37

Congratulations park, so pleased you escaped an induction.

And thanks whammie, bananastew and sassy. I decided to let Louis grunt away a bit last night to see where he would go with it. Sometimes he went on to cry, but others he nodded off to sleep after a while. It meant that I got a bit more sleep too (all of 4.5 hrs ish) :)

Sorry to hear some of the LOs have colds.

upsoearly · 29/09/2010 15:50

Just a quick update from me. Our little girl Maya was born last Tuesday night, very fast - all a bit of a shock, but she is fine and we are getting used to the new addaition to the family. I haven't caught up with the thread yet, but congratulations to all the other new mums - doubtless coming thck and fast now. hope you're all getting some sleep!

BooStar · 29/09/2010 16:07

Hello all,

Congratulations to all the new arrivals - I haven't posted in over 2 weeks so you'll forgive me in not congratulating individually - so many to remember!! But a special congrats to my fellow inductee swordfish on the arrival of Finnian what a lovely name!

Ruben Anthony finally arrived 16 days late on 17th September weighing 8lbs9oz and he's just perfect. Grin

Wish I could say the same for the labour/birth, I won't go into too much detail for sake of mum's yet to be but suffice to say it was pretty long, drawn out & traumatic in the end and involved a lot of blood loss (over half my body's worth) followed by transfusions and a rather long stay in hospital. Quite the opposite to the natural midwife led, water birth I had in mind!
However, we came home last week and after a frantic few days of permanent feeding (my milk took a while coming in due to the blood loss so the boy was feeding constantly to try to bring it on) and feeling very weak from the anaemia things are a lot calmer now and I'm really enjoying being a Mummy.

In a bit of a dichotomy of wanting to treasure every moment of him being so small and newborn, and wishing away the 6 week recovery period they've estimated for my blood levels to get back to a reasonable level and my bits to stop being so sore!! Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2010 16:42

Dixiebell I said yes because it was much more favourable to an induction. As it turned out I was induced but my cervix was very favourable so it was quick and I think the sweeps helped with that. I think there is a slight risk of breaking your waters and it is uncomfortable plus it is a form of intervention but otherwise most people tend to go for it.

Congratulations BooStar and upsoearly!

I'm glad you've had a better night mapletrees, it's such a personal thing whether to leave them when crying/grunting etc you have to see how you feel.

bananastew · 29/09/2010 16:42

Ok, so he won't stop crying unless I pick him up or have him in the sling. I spent 9 months carrying him. I don't want to do it anymore! I've got Ds1 sat next to me saying "mummy throw, naughty mummy" because I just threw one of his toys because I lost it! I just want a break!!!

watersprite · 29/09/2010 16:49

Congratulations to all the new arrivals.

Just wanted to thank all for the advice given about feeding my little one and the winding issue. I'm glad to report that Maria-Ann is doing so much better at feeding and winding is so much easier after the doctor prescribed colief. :)

The only issue I have really now is that she is now constipation and finds it difficult to push her poos out, I feel for her (poor mite). Midwife has told me to give her a teaspoon of pure orange juice, I'm really hopeing this will work as I hate to see her struggling.

Good luck to all the mum's who are nearly there :)

skyeplusbump · 29/09/2010 18:27

oh banana, thats awful, my dd was like that...she had refux and the gaviscon did eventually help.any chance it could be that?

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2010 19:29

So sorry bananastew, my first was like that. I would suggest shutting him in the bedroom where you know he's safe and just sit for 10mins to calm down. My hubby was great and took DS1 as soon as he got in from work and I had a few free mins and could go for a walk if I needed to :(

bananastew · 29/09/2010 19:37

I do think he's struggling with wind. He brings it up brilliantly at feed time but does often go very red in the face writh round grunt, groan, scream a bit more then settle a bit. I don't understand why he stops the second he's picked up tho. When I've tried infacol before, its brought his wind up so violently he's brought the whole bottle up too!

Since I posted that I've also discovered that the laptop can bounce & scared ds1 half to death by screaming! I know there'll be hard days but I just feel like a horrible mummy today. I've put Oliver to bed upstairs. So far he's been down with me. He's settled fine & is fast asleep so compared to last nights 10pm bedtime he's doing better! It's not helping that DH is working 8am-9.30pm so I'm on my own all day.

Whats that MN saying? Its a phase, it'll pass!!!! Grin otherwise I'll Sad

mapletrees · 29/09/2010 20:15

bananastew you have my sympathy, doubly with your DH working such long hours. Louis is rarely happy for long unless one of us is holding him and I find it physically quite exhausting while DP is at work, and that's without another DC to look after. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2010 20:16

DS1 was terribly windy/colicy and screamed from 3pm-8pm most days whether I picked him up or not and only stopped to eat! I definitely recommend the massage I described earlier bananastew. It's really hard when you're alone for such a large amount of the day, does he sleep in a pushchair? Perhpas you could go for a walk or take DS1 to the park to get a break from the house and screaming? It will improve and you will be more positive about it all some days than others. Don't :(

comixminx · 29/09/2010 22:17

I see we're moving from mostly focusing on the last bits of pregnancy and labour itself, to coping with new LOs either as new mums or as enlarged families! All exciting.

I'm trying to get to grips with balancing feeding with everything else - I'm bfing on demand but also expressing about 4 times a day to try to make sure that I have enough for D to give DD a bottle in the evening, the aim being to give her enough just before bedtime that she might start off the night sleepy! Well, it may yet happen but so far we've not really got to sleep until about 11:30, 12:00, or just after - if that. The multiple expressing is also what one mw suggested to ensure that my milk supply builds up well - she was not convinced that Dd's latch was all that good, though I think it's generally ok. It could do with a bit of optimisation having said that, as my left nipple in particular is a bit pinched and sore! How can I get her to open wide enough to take in a bit more boob at a time, anyone got suggestions? I am going to a breastfeeding counselling session tomorrow but any handy hints are welcome.

Dunno if this is relevant to you, bananastew and mapletrees, but we've found that although our DD also wants to be held a lot, it is much easier to put her down if she is a) well-fed and b) warm enough. I know you're told to be careful not to over-heat babies but I think we probably didn't keep her warm enough when first putting her down by herself in the moses basket... another suggestion we heard & tried was to put something with your own scent into the basket - eg an old shirt etc. Apologies if it was on this thread that someone said this!

OP posts:
sassy34264 · 29/09/2010 22:38

bananastew I hear you with regards to the being on your own. My DP is only here at weekends due to being forces, and at the minute he is away for 3 weeks (1 and a half weeks down). Because i have 2 babies i have noticed that they both suffer with wind at the same time, which has suggested to me that it is food related. Had an awful day on monday, they cried nearly none stop from 8pm till midnight (i cried after that!). So yesterday i didn't touch dairy (i already had my suspicions about yogurts) and i had the best day ever. I'm keeping a food diary to see what else affects them.

sassy34264 · 29/09/2010 22:41

Also. i think they stop crying when they are picked up because they are upright and it makes the trapped wind hurt less

JodeyLea · 30/09/2010 07:05

Well ladies, hopefully I'll be joining you very shortly by being able to chat about bf & wind as at 2:30am I started having contractions every ten minutes or so. They are currently every 6-7 minutes so just trying to hang on in there. Looks like that reflexology could have done the trick.

Look forward to announcing soon x x x Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 30/09/2010 08:34

Good luck JodeyLea!
