Ignorance is bliss, CM. If no recommendations is good enough for Canada and France, then it's good enough for me. Do more babies get effected by their mothers eating certain things in pregnancy there? I very much doubt it. . .

Zephyrcat · 28/09/2005 12:41

Hiya cadmum - I think the general thing is not to eat fresh things such as mayo, ice cream etc but to eat the packaged ones because they've been heat treated. (I've got the proper instructions somewhere will have to dig them out!)

poppyh · 28/09/2005 12:57

well im having king prawns with salad and hellmans mayo for lunch.I guess im bad too!

Zephyrcat · 28/09/2005 13:02

Have found a few bits of info.........

Not to eat: Soft mould ripened cheeses like brie, camembert, blue cheeses like gorgonzola or stilton - they have a risk of listeriosis. Goats cheese carries a risk of toxoplasmosis.
Undercooked runny eggs, anything made with raw eggs - eg mayo or homemade desserts such as real custard, trifle, mousse or ice cream. Uncooked or undercooked meats such as parma ham - there's a risk of toxoplasmosis. Give pate a miss as it carries a risk of listeriosis. Liver or liver products contain high levels of Vitamin A which can cause birth defects.

YES TO : Hard cheese such as cheddar, edam or red leicester as they a re a good source of calcium to build baby's bones. Mozzarella, cottage cheese and cream cheese are all fine.
Well cooked eggs are a good source of protein. Shop bought mayo and desserts are fine as they will have been pasteurised.
Good quality well cooked meats are a good sourse of protein and iron, which many pg women lack.

I didn't know about a few of those - like the goats cheese and the parma ham. Is feta cheese goats cheese? I had loads of it in a salad last night!!

Cadmum · 28/09/2005 13:26

feta is goat?s cheese but fine if pasteurised. HTH...

munz · 28/09/2005 13:29

well this is the first, hopefully not the last! lol, my mum's already planning GC no 2 about 6 months after the first she wants me to be PG again - no thanks! lol.

zep - does htat mean well cooked but runny eggs r ok - u know more or less hard but not quite so still a bit runny? i've had loads of ice cream (not soft/mr wippy one) will it be ok

OOps, ate goats cheese salads every week with DS! My fave at the restaurant near work!

toothyboy · 28/09/2005 13:35

You guys must give it a rest - pleeeease! I think I don't post very often cos every time I look there's so much to catch up on I just can't face it!!! Perhaps someone could do a daily or weekly summary of what's gone on so I don't miss out!

I'm 18 weeks today and baby is very active. Have bought some new maternity clothes and dug out some from last time; trouble is, they're all still a bit big, but none of my normal clothes fit so I just look like a tramp at the moment!!

Hope everyone's well - I shall go and catch up on the last week or so!!

munz · 28/09/2005 13:38

LMAO@TB - yes welcome to my world! lol.

bump still not kicking away starting to get pains in diff positions, but am sure it's wind as been a bit ahem constipated today/yesterday.

still pains there - think bean doesn't like how I sit at my desk??

Zephyrcat · 28/09/2005 13:40

Munz you can't have runny eggs - so if you do fried eggs it's best to turn them over in the pan so you don't get a runny yolk and if you boil them the yolk has to be hard. Ice cream will be fine - just don't buy 'fresh made' or 'home made' - make sure it's from a freezer in the supermarket.

munz · 28/09/2005 13:42

gonna go sit and sulk now! lol, althou DB made a nice comment which was well if u're not sure/comfortable don't eat it just in case - waht's another 5 months 5 months I tell u. I miss my runny eggs - first dinner I have I swear to god!

Zephyrcat · 28/09/2005 13:43

lol Munz Bless!!!

Zephyrcat · 28/09/2005 13:50

DD has named 'her' baby Dewie!! I have no idea where she got that name from - just hoping it doesn't stick!! Makes me think of hewie dewie and louis!!!

munz · 28/09/2005 13:52

lol, might well be from there! dewiw - it's a sweet name - so she's thinking boy then?

OP posts:
Zephyrcat · 28/09/2005 13:56

lol nope she's convinced its a girl!! She's already saying "When I'm bigger and I have my baby in my belly....." She's only 3.9!!! Will soon put her off that thought!!

newgirl · 28/09/2005 14:42

Did you see that emmerdale had to put a warning/apology out last night as they had mentioned that liver was good for pregnant women! very topical for us lot! They had nettle soup too but apparently that's ok.

sorry toothboy - some of us are very easily distracted at work and email here all the time!! i think last week can be summed up as:

scans/kicks
food
jeans

no change there then!

ps munz - will try to buy at weekend so you won't be hearing from me for a while

Frizbe · 28/09/2005 17:56

Dewie, wasn't that scarey movie! doubt dd has seen that right?!
Toothy's quite right we don't half natter on here! and as I have nothing more to say today I shall leave you all to it!

desperatehousewife · 28/09/2005 18:04

Shall we start a new thread - to celebrate the fact that we've got to 4 months!

Frizbe · 28/09/2005 18:09

munz · 28/09/2005 20:02

spiker · 28/09/2005 20:49

Before you dash off and start new thread, can I join? I'm due 23/03/06 with #2. Have been sick as a dog until 2 weeks ago so am very happy to arrive at second trimester milestone. Just waiting for that 'energy surge' to kick in now...

Cadmum · 28/09/2005 22:03

Hello all and welcome spiker.

I am fine with a new thread. 20 weeks is still a long way off and we are probably too chatty to wait...

munz · 29/09/2005 07:50
