Congratulations Cazzy, lovely name and birth story . Can't wait to hear more from you when you're ready.

I second the comments about iron tablets. I had to have a transfusion aftr DS was born because I'd lost a lot of blood and my iron levels weren't recovering, but they then put me on iron tablets as well. The main problem is what they do to your digestion - in the end I just took a unilateral decision to stop taking them, because they were doing such horrid things to me. So I'd say if you have another option to try first, then go for it!

Feeling tired today, after a late night in the pub last night (), and then a busy day buying carpets and washing sofa covers (thanks to whoever it was who mentioned doing this recently - mine aren't meant to be washable but they were so filthy that I couldn't bear it any more, and they've come out fine ). Now they're all ready to be covered in baby sick (though actually, they're pretty much exactly the same colour as milk-vomit, so maybe they'll be ok ).

vix206 · 05/08/2010 22:06

I have spatone here (took it during first trimester) so have had a sachet with oj tonight, prescription is for pregaday. Not sure whether to take it or just carry on with spatone as I know that doesn't disagree with me. Seeing as I am already painfully constipated I can't face being worse, but I have been so exhausted this past week and had a banging headache, so it's clear my levels are low.

No idea what my levels are as all I got was a call from doctors surgery saying levels were a bit low.

Just hope I have time to get them up before homebirth as am 38+4 and very twingey with some strong period type pains at the mo...

pamplem0usse · 06/08/2010 09:30

Crikey Alice why is it assumed that someone being not-very-subtle stealing has MH issues?.... Much more likely off their face on something.....
And in any case, if they have MH issues surely it's actually important that the police are called and they get some sort of help through the court process....
I think I'd have been a bit narked by the seeming lack of urgency!

Poncherello · 06/08/2010 10:22

Floradix is also meant to be really good for low iron levels and doesn't affect your digestion in the same way - had good reports from friends who have used it.

No idea how it tastes but maybe worth a try?

Congratulations on all the new babies - names are just beautiful. Still haven't decided on any but DH seems to come up with some really odd ones, our surname is pretty standard so feel like we can go a bit more exciting on first name ... but his are a bit 'out there' ...

Had interesting consultant appt yesterday - all looking favourable for a VBAC so fingers crossed. Had discussed some birth plan points (like not wanting a canula put in immediately on arrival on labour ward) all depends on how progressing etc all in all quite reassuring, need to spend plenty of time hips wide apart leaning forward or on hands and knees with bum in the air - interesting balancing that with evil heartburn!

Not sure how to copy and paste the link but on the Childbirth forum there's a hilarious thread on 'what's the most memorable thing said to you when giving birth' - good for a bit of distraction.

Have a good Friday all - look forward to hearing more announcements soon! x

soontobefatnat · 06/08/2010 10:25

Haven't posted in ages, it feels. I've been a bit out of it really - totally knackered, loads to do and even with my amazing mum staying and working like a trojan, there still seems an enormous amount left to do. Feeling a bit stressed. Confused

Annnyway, just wanted to send my congrats to all the ladies who've had their little ones over the last week. Such lovely names you've all chosen!

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/08/2010 10:36

Congrats Cazzy - gorgeous name :)

Vita - My HG levels are 11.5 but I'm taking Floradix tablets anyway just to be on safe side, since the better your iron levels the less chance of an after birth bleed and the better prepared you are for breastfeeding. I'd only take one tablet a day tho, since for the few days when I was taking the recommended 3 a day it didn't do my digestion any favours!! One a day seems fine so far though, and I've been on them for a week.

After all my freezer cooking this week my freezer seems to be gradually giving up the ghost Hmm It's not defrosted exactly, it's just def not quite as cold as it should be so I think we're just going to have to eat everything I cooked over last four or five days this week to be on the safe side. Annoying!! But at least shopping bill will be cheaper this week and it'll be great not to have to cook for a lot of days in a row :) The bit I'm most worried about tho is that we're going to have to investigate why the freezer is doing this. It's nearly 2 years old so it's out of warranty but really can't afford to buy a new one, esp since we just had to buy a new vacuum cleaner. Angry

Oh well, at least living room, bedroom, bathroom and nursery are all sparkling, clean, tidy and smelling rather beautiful! And I have a friend coming round about 12:30, a tray of Nigella brownies in the oven and a man coming to measure up my hall for laminate flooring this afternoon. Stepford wife trend continues...

No sign of LO yet and apart from banjaxed knees and some cramping nothing to suggest LO's arrival is imminent either. 37 weeks tomorrow tho! Woo hoo! End is in sight :D

Aussieng · 06/08/2010 10:41

Congratulations Cazzy - Lovely name. I'm taking hope from all you second, third timers etc that my labour will be nice and short next time around!

Thanks for the tip on the baby event Sparkle. We are hoping to move to reusables when J hits 10lbs but in the meantime I'm going to stock up on some of those pampers and nappy sacks for use when we are travelling.

Hope you manage to destress soon Nat and it's good that things are looking favorable Poncherello.

Well I succumbed last night and let J stay in our bed after a feed and he slept much better! I kept scooting over to give him breathing room and he would snuggle right up. Ended up at 8 am this morning with him in the middle of the bed and DH and I squished up together on the other side of the bed with DH refusing to get up for work as he did not want to disturb LO! Rod for my own back I know.

Going to look for Alice's AIBU (nosy).

vix206 · 06/08/2010 11:22

I wish I knew what my levels actually were, its really playing on my mind as all they said was a bit low :( Now I won't see anyone until I'm in labour so it'll be anyone's guess how low they are. I am hoping if they were worried about it they would have asked me to make an appt or something?

Anyway, taken my 2 spatone this morning and will go and get my prescription from the chemist later and compare the 2 to see which is best for me to take. Hoping I can stick with my Spatone as I know it doesn't disagree with me.

In other news, buyer of the house is pressurising us saying she wants to move in 1-2 weeks!!! Baby due in 10 days, homebirth - Confused

But anyway, there is just no way the solicitors will be able to wrk that quickly so trying not to stress.

bouncingblueberries · 06/08/2010 11:25

aussie I don't believe in the whole rod for your own back thing. We let ds1 sleep in our bed and all slept much better for it.

Bit bleary-eyed this morning after a couple of rough nights - lots if cluster-feeding going on! Have found that sweet tea and chocolate biscuits makes it all a bit more bearable though. So that's my top tip for the day girls, stock up on some lovely posh biccies to see you through those long night feeds!

Off to catch up on the rest of the thread now...if I can manage to keep my eyes open that is!

chickieno1 · 06/08/2010 11:27

Congratulations cazzy. Lovely name and great story!

I am on 2 iron tablets a day and they re killing me but my Hb was 9.5 and I was absolutely knackered which wont do when lo arrives! I would recommend taking them on a relatively empty stomach with a large glass of orange juice and trying to drink plenty of water during the day. i never tried spatone but I think my levels might have been too low for that, might take it afterwards though.

Know how you feel nat, have just moved and stuck indoors waiting for movers with loads of boxes that ll need unpacking etc. Have had loads of help from my sisters and PILs but still stressed :(

Chulita · 06/08/2010 11:30

aussie Sam's been sleeping the last bit of the night in our bed cos he settles well. He's still feeding about every hour - nightmare cos in the day he'll go 4 hours easily!

vix I'm sure you'll get your levels back up with the Spatone. Hope they don't get sorted that quick on the house....too much pressure there!!

I'm exhausted, DD's playing up and mum's going home today so we're going to really have fun for the next 2 weeks til DH gets his paternity leave. MIL's coming next week Confused which is...erm...I need her here cos I can't lift DD but she drives me round the bend. Full of comments on how I should do things differently, and she's a control freak so ARGH!

Alicetheinvisible · 06/08/2010 11:50

Chicki after my accident my Hb was 7.9 and spatone managed to get it back up to 10.1 despite me not being able to keep food down most of the time, and when i was in hosp at 28wks it was 8.9 but had gone up to 10.2 in 3 weeks on spatone and being careful with my diet.

Bit knackered today, but have been to town and back. I hate that everyone assumes i am completely fed up already and are giving me 'helpful' tips on how to get it out Hmm I would like to go into labour on my due date, but i am still quite comfortable and happy ticking along.

cazzybabs · 06/08/2010 12:02

arse - midwife popped round for post-natal check and my bp is very high again. have to go and see gp. i feel quite depressed.

Alicetheinvisible · 06/08/2010 12:32

Cazzy Sad hope it is just a blip (or the MW stresses you out Wink) Look forward to hearing from you properly Smile

marzipananimal · 06/08/2010 12:59

poor you cazzy, I would have thought it's normal though for your body to take a while to settle down again after giving birth.

vix doesn't your midwife write your iron levels on your notes? I had a look at mine last night after the iron conversations on here and they're in a column titled Hb. If not then I'm sure you could ring them to ask. I'm glad I found mine cos although they told me they were fine, it was actually only 10.9 which isn't far off anaemic so I'm thinking about getting some spatone now

vitapulchra · 06/08/2010 13:01

Vixis your buyer threatening to pull out if she doesn't get her way? B/c it's absolutely ridiculous and selfish to expect someone who's due to give birth to move out at the same exact time. I wouldn't even let it bother youit's too nonsensical to contemplate!

Aussie--I've always been firm about my babies sleeping in their own beds after the first few months (DH can't sleep with them there and I end up worrying too much), but before then I see a bit of co-sleeping as one of the loveliest things about having a newborn. They love it, you get more rest, and they can adjust to being in their own bed perfectly well (if that's what you want) in 2-4 months. Just enjoy and make your decision later about where you want him to stay!

Moan alert--Last night was absolutely awful, with little DS2 suddenly succumbing to a fever which has left him vomiting and lethargic today. Tried making other dc's sandwiches for lunch one-handed as he screams whenever not held. Plus I seem to have developed, for the first time in 4 pg's, MS, so I spent half the night in the bathroom sick from both ends (sorry TMI). I don't seem to have a virus but have been feeling increasingly nauseated over the last couple of weeks. Can't stand the thought of salad! Blurgh. Plus other dc's up during night for trips to the loo, which they refuse to do by themselves. DH has been wonderful helping in the night and went in late to work so I could have a rest. Now I'm actually hoping I DON'T go into labour soon. Horrible, horrible day.

Right, rant over, as you were, lovely ladies.

OP posts:
Aussieng · 06/08/2010 13:56

Thanks everyone - feel better now. Mum was not impressed at me letting J in our bed. FUll off doom and gloom and danger...

Vita - rant away! Sorry you are feeling so awful and hope it passs soon. Nausea is a sign of impending labour but in which case presumably it will pass when things kick of and if it is not that then hopefully your body wil realise that this is not the optimum time and will wait until you are up to coping with labour etc. I've heard that is how it generally works.

chickieno1 · 06/08/2010 14:03

cazzy i'm sure your BP will come down again.

Will def try spatone alice.

Grrrrrrrrr movers not coming today after all, they have a "small" problem at the depot?????? How difficult can it be to move a few boxes? Wanted stuff here for the weekend so DH could help me carry stuff, now it won't be till monday Angry

Sorry for the moan

ElusiveMoose · 06/08/2010 14:06

Vita poor you, sounds like a totally crappy day. Hope things are getting a bit better today?

Snowshine re your freezer, just wanted to say that ours stopped working last year (everything was far too cold). I was about to phone Hotpoint, but DH (who is usually not the DIY type) spent ages online and found out that it was probably the thermostat. He ordered a new one and downloaded the instructions to fit it himself, and it worked like magic. Only cost us about a tenner (plus several days hours of DH's time Grin). So it could be that.

Aussie I second what others have said - much to early to be making a rod for your own back yet. Babies don't adopt bad habits until months later.

Vix I can't believe your buyer!! What is it about moving house that turns otherwise normal people into completely unreasonable loons?

Having a good day today. My Stieg Larsson hospital bag book arrived from the library finally (though I'll probably finish it before I go into labour Grin), and the bricklayers are coming tomorrow to put my last window in, so as long as the baby can stay put until tomorrow afternoon, most of the messy builder stuff will be done Smile.

vix206 · 06/08/2010 15:13

marzipan she does write them on my notes but what happened is she came on Wednesday and took a full blood count and then I just got a call yesterday from the doctors reception to say the results were back and they were a bit low. So I haven't seen my midwife since she took the bloods, and won't do now until labour. Unless I go overdue of course!

vita yes rant away that's what we're here for - sounds like you're having a time of it :( Buyer not threatening to pull out or anything like that - she's just trying to be pushy. There's no way the solicitors will be able to move that quickly anyway so I'm not going to let it stress me out :)

Had my first day time nap of the week - really feel like I'm on maternity leave now :) And I have picked up my iron tabs so I think I'll start on them tomorrow and hope they do the trick. Any sign of sickness I'm back on the Spatone :)

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/08/2010 16:27

Elusive - Thanks for the tip, I've been looking online today at things that could be wrong with the freezer Hmm Think we're going to eat everything over next few days (should still be ok, cos it's colder than the fridge and my ice cubes haven't melted) and then drag it out from the recess it's wedged into in the kitchen and take a look at the fan etc at the back. Pain in the arse!!

Good job on getting your hospital bag book - I joined library at the end of my street today and got a really trashy one called Library of the Dead. But I suspect I'll have that read by Monday he he

My tens machine arrived this morning while I was in the shower and I was pissed off cos I knew I'd have to go into town and collect it on Monday but when I was walking round to library an hour later I met our normal postman and I told him what had happened and he valiantly took off in his van to track down the other postman cos he knew his route, retrieved the package and dropped it back for me. My hero!!

marzipananimal · 06/08/2010 16:33

wow littlemiss! What a lovely postman! I'm grumpy with royal mail at the mo cos we've recently moved house (and postcode) and now have to collect undelivered post from a sorting office a 20 minute drive away instead of the one 5 minutes walk down the road which dh walks past twice a day, grr!

neenz · 06/08/2010 16:33

Aussie, another thumbs up here for co-sleeping in the early days! I co-slept whenever I could with the twins (only one at a time tho) cos they were cluster feeding a lot in the night (building up supply) and I would never have slept otherwise! At 7wks they seemed to suddenly get the hang of night and day and started sleeping in their cots from 11-7 with just one 10min wake-up each Smile. The key I think is to try to get them used to their own cots/moses basket for daytime naps and maybe settle them to sleep in their own bed and then take them into your bed when they wake in night so their cots/moses baskets are not completely alien to them.

I will definitely be co-sleeping with this one early on. I do think letting an older child sleep in your bed is a nightmare but that's just me, I've never had them in my bed again since they were 7wks old, but you have to do what works for you.

ElusiveMoose · 06/08/2010 21:38

littlemiss yay for your postman. Mine's lovely too. For the first year or so after DS was born, he would always come back to my house at the end of his round if he had to knock on the door with a parcel, because he didn't want to disturb me and the baby too early. What a star!

Neenz that's what I did too - co-sleeping for those first few weeks is lovely (they actually showed me how to do it safely in hospital, which I thought was really sweet).

Where is everyone tonight? Maybe you're all off having your babies Grin.

Right, I'm off to bed. Have been talking about having an early night for ages, but it keeps not happening, so tonight is the night!

LittleMissSnowShine · 06/08/2010 22:17

I'm still knocking about - eating brownies and drinking the low alco-ma-hol vino in front of Big Bro lol

No sign of baby yet here anyway. Tho starting to have something a bit like how people have been describing SPD pain to me. It's not really bad or anything but it's pretty noticeable, kind of like an ache pretty low down. I'm thinking/hoping/deluding myself that this might be indicative of head properly engaging now? Anyone else had this?

Have MW appt on Monday tho so can get her to check anyway!

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend ahead :)
