I once froze a hamster. And then tried to revive him over the radiator.

gin you enjoy that bikini you lucky mare. Where you going in Morocco? I've always wanted to go... love look of romantic riads to stay in and carpet markets, and mint tea, and turkish delight, and floaty kaftans. Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Cosmosis · 03/08/2010 17:19

S'alright Box - BIL packed his laptop so am able to get my daily PESH-fix [phew]. Blackberry has dropped to the deepest depths of my handbag so no danger of accidently getting sucked into work stuff.

Hooray for Ginny...and a lovely Morroccan holiday to celebrate - lucky, lucky you

Honey I once drowned the class guinea pig in the paddling pool - Silver Jubilee was her name. Mum tried to revive her with a hairdryer but we suspect that just finished her off....was not v. popular after that .

Medee · 03/08/2010 20:23

Gin excellent scan news, so happy for you!

organiccarrotcake · 03/08/2010 20:58

Congratulations gin

honey, silver these are babygowns. You can obviously get cheaper non-organic ones.

Comma is modelling the little star one at the bottom of the page (poor photo but the previous one was worse and I haven't had chance to set up the photography stuff).

Doesn't matter whether they're boys or girls - they wear them at night, anyway. The point is that they just slide/lift over the nappy at night so you can nappy change without dealing with fiddly poppers, which are especially a problem when the lights are dimmed at night.

Mostly they have elasticated bottoms but some have buttons (!) and others poppers - which being in line are easier than babygrows to pop but in fact neither the buttons, nor the poppers need to be closed.

You use them instead of a babygrow, with normal bedding or a sleeping bag.

They're brilliant. I've been given several by a friend in a batch of second hand clothes she's lent me, and I've also pinched a MAC one (the lavender one). I'd never heard of them when I had LC and I think that they, and baby sleeping bags, are the two single most essential pieces of not-always considered baby items I can recommend.

Has anyone used a baby swing? I don't know whether to get one of not. Any thoughts?

Medee · 03/08/2010 21:51

meant to mention that I had my second midwife appointment, nothing exciting other than handing over my urine sample and having blood taken. She didn't really ask me much, other than any sickness. Don't see the CMW again till Week 16.

I've actually yet to vomit, but feeling generally queasy most of the time. Came closest to up-chucking tonight when removing some fermented vegetables, and choked twice on my dinner (roast chicken risotto) so gave up on that - managed the chocolate pudding though

organiccarrotcake · 04/08/2010 08:00

Oh medee I really feel for you

I never understood what possessed the designers of us to think that just when we're trying to grow a new person, making us feel/be sick is a great idea. just when you need the extra calories, let's take them all away... I was so glad when that phase passed, which it did overnight at 10 weeks - although obviously I then worried for 2 weeks that something was wrong.

Forget the children - won't somebody think about the mothers???

Poor Comma was really suffering with colic again last night but then we had a breakthrough with a homeopathic treatment. Let's hope it really worked and wasn't a coincidence and I can keep using it.

Muser · 04/08/2010 08:06

The constant nausea is awful Medee. I don't have that as much anymore, but my appetite has shrunk and if I eat I start to feel sick. I also, in a very cliched way, throw up every single morning. Which is no fun at all. I am now nearly half a stone lighter than I was 10 weeks ago.

Cosmosis · 04/08/2010 08:51

I remember that well medee on the few days that I was sick it was actually a bit of a relief becuase I spent most of the time thinking "I'm going to throw up..... oh, no I'm not" round and round in circles !

Today I am starting operation batch cooking.

ChoChoSan · 04/08/2010 09:22

Morning PESHies, and congratulations to Gin for her real live Baaaybeeeeee!!!

I am now 14+3, and in maternity jeans etc, though still panicking everyday and saying 'I don't think I'm growing any bigger, what if something's wrong"...but this is usually met with snorts of derision, so I will assume that other think I am expanding rapidly!

Placed an order for more maternity gear, so not in quite so much denial, but not going anywhere near baby stuff yet.

Who said you get less knackered during second trimester, BTW? Bollocks...I am ready for a snooze within about half an hour of getting up in the morning now, and yawning on a scale that threatens to inhale half of London, every 5 minutes.

OkieCokie · 04/08/2010 09:31

Yeah for mat clothes cho I find the jeans tres comfortable!

Moo how the fuck did you freeze a hamster? I once had a hamster that I bought from the pet shop and 2 weeks later I had 8 baby hamsters! They had sold me a preggers one. Mother ate 4 of them (I can only assume to control the litter!) so I raised 4 baby hamsters and then sold them back to the pet shop for 50p each - that was my first step in to being a "business woman" aged 9. I also used to take my hamster into school on the last day of term - all the other kids took cabbage patch kids and my little ponies and stuff - I took my pet hamster.

OkieCokie · 04/08/2010 09:47

Rots just ordered a baby gown and some pjs from MAC. Loving the lavender star one esp as it is on offer..!

FannyPriceless · 04/08/2010 10:05

We have been given a couple of babygowns but I haven't used them as not quite sure what they're for. Now you explain I can see the point, but tbh I think I'll stick with sleepsuits as Clyde has an amazing non-action bottom at night time, i.e. he doesn't need his nappy changed. Last night he had one nappy on from 11pm - 7am and it was barely wet when I changed it.

Actually, while he was on the changing table I thought to myself, how is he holding on after having had two feeds in the night? Then he did a horse-size wee all over both of us. Ahh, the joy of little boys.

cossie What are you going to cook?

SkiHorseWonAWean · 04/08/2010 11:12

fanny I have already been weed over twice this morning whilst changing... for those of you planning on buying beautiful integrated spendy changing mats take note. Have already thrown 3 mat towels in washing this morning!

rollerbaby · 04/08/2010 12:50

Ski its the same dozy cow as the risotto thread... Not sure I can hold myself back.

Okie my mum hated the smell and kept putting 'Hammy' out in the garage utility room which was freezing in winter. I brought him in and he didn't look very well, so held him over the radiator. Oops.

Those babygowns look v handy, but how many nappies are we likely to change in middle of the night? I can never work out how you can tell if it needs changing and how often. Obviously running down leg is a giveaway... so straight after feed? Cannot be as bad as clearing up dog poo off the carpet surely???

Yes Cossie what are you cookin? I am thinking beef stew and lasagne so far for iron levels post B.

ChoCho the energy thing is a bit of a lie. I don't feel dog tired ALL of the time, just most of the time now with occasional treats of energy. Just don't run up any tube escalators and fuck your hips when you happen to get one.

CurlyCasperBaggedABairn · 04/08/2010 13:35

Jings, I disappear for a little while and ginstar only goes and properly leaves the differ closet! Wonderful news. So pleased for you

Backinthebox · 04/08/2010 13:43

at anyone on holiday/havijng a holiday/even thinking about a holiday. We don't 'do' summer holidays because of the cricket I have decided that as of next summer the only way to go about things is to just go on one anyway. I will have 2 little people to take with me, so don't need to go alone! OH can come if he wants. He's fancying the Caribbean mostly on the grounds they have cricket there too, so that'll be alright. Apparently going on holiday in the winter doesn't interfere with cricket (interferes with horsey stuff, hunting etc, but I have MONTHS of that to enjoy and can see the sense in missing the odd meet to have a lovely time with mates skiing!)

Clucky, glad you posted from your sun lounger - I was trying to figure out what the really important thing I was supposed to do was - and voila, I have not forgotten your cats now! Just keep dropping in every 2-3 days and they'll be fine! (Actually I do have it written in my diary.) BTW there seem to be no biscuits, only tins - that right? Or shall I go to shops for them?

Rots am loving the babygowns! What a great idea. DD hated sleeping bags but I reckon would've gone for those. I'd never heard of them before either. I think I will start out by buying the frog one. DD wanted cleaning IMMEDIATELY in the middle of the night whenever she pooed, which was once or twice a night for the first couple of months

Complete drama here yesterday: Should've had MW on Monday, but got a text to say she couldn't make the appointment and would call me as soon as poss to rearrange. She is an IM so this has happened once or twice when she has overrun at another patient's house. No problem. Then I got a phonecall from the back-up midwife saying my MW would be unable, due to a tragic unforseen circumstance, be unable to continue working for a while. AAaargh! Anyway, the back-up came out to see me straight away, we got on well, and she will take over my care and throw in a few extra visits for free in order to close the 'getting to know you' gap I have now. She seems nice enough, and will come with me to the hospital for the delivery. Anyway, she did my check-up, and all the crawling around I've been doing means the baby is now in a fab position. So that's all good.

Cosmosis · 04/08/2010 13:46

I has done 3 x double portions chili, 2 x lasagne and 2 x shepherds pie. Still to do, 2 x pasta bake, 2 x mac cheese with leeks and bacon. will do them tomorrow. am all cooked out today.

I did putted frozen spinach in all of them too thinking that would help with the iron, along with the red meat and red wine

Congratulations gin!

Poor honeymoo's frozen hamster!

I had Braxton Hicks for the first time evah last night, which made me panic and blow 70 quid on a sling and a TENS machine.

34 weeks!

rollerbaby · 04/08/2010 14:24

I moved onto a rabbit after that whose fate wasn't much better. He hated me and I had to wear a ski jacket when holding him to avoid having my skin taken off.

Skater you iz practically in the post natal ward girl! Oh er. 27 weeks now and feels like I've got forever to go.

Speaking of which the sister of my SIL is in labour as we speak. Feel nervous for her...

cossie god you're good. How long are you cooking for? My problem is that Mr M hates everything I like, but he can order pizza frankly. I need to find freezable disposable boxes.

Box you cannot put your life on hold for cricket. That way lies madness. Book your summer holiday and tell him after. that's what I tend to do anyway. plan it all and present the itinerary as a fait accompli with accompanying photographic/tripadvisor references to back up. Usually he can't resist. I should have been a travel agent.

Next year we are going in May to Italy - not cancelling this time. flights are booked already we just need to get we 3 there. Thinking of bringing m&d for babysitting duties. Nice. Am I mad to take a 7 month old to a hotel where it is predominantly couples? We've been before a few times and I've seen the odd baby/child. Italians love kids so should be fine....

SkiHorseWonAWean · 04/08/2010 15:12

honey pampers have a yellow stripe down front - turns green with wee. poo = hold & sniff!

maswera · 04/08/2010 15:18

I have just been described as my DP's 'baby mumma' What the jiggety-fuck?!
