Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

i'm exhausted too but all my own fault. I'm a maid of honour next sat so had the hen weekend to get through so many months of organising had gone into it i couldn't really miss it. Spent sat mornin prepin food for bbq and bridal shower as well as final dress fitting (dress still fits ) then took bride to a pole dancing lesson (i just watched ) managed to get home for a couple of hours cook dh tea put ds to bed have a rest than get ready and head out again finally got home at 4am after making sure the minibus dropped off all the very drunk hens then had to be up for 10am to look after ds so dh could go in for a meetin at work then organised a sunday lunch at local carvery. One good thing is that i have not had time to worry if everythings ok etc or think about feeling sick looking back at post think i'm going to need a few weeks to recover

tadjennyp · 25/07/2010 22:51

I had a water birth with ds. It was amazing and I thoroughly recommend it, if you can. Won't be allowed to have one here. He was 8lb 9oz and it seemed so easy in comparison with dd who was only 6lb 4!

You seem really busy hubbard - well done!

ledkr · 26/07/2010 07:46

Back on the roller coaster! had some spotting last night...not bright red more Orangey then tailed off to brown. needless to say it was hard to sleep then at 2am I heard a few funny noises and looked outside to see an orange glow. turns out the hedge over the rd which is huge. about 20ft high was ablaze! all the neighbours were out fire brigade there talk about excitement. Anyway I have decided to have my first sicky ever and am going to rest which is unheard of. Do you think I should contact mw? I had a good scan sat and London for nt Wed. BLeeding has stopped. I know a few of you have had this any stories greatly appreciated whilst I am watching Jeremy Phillip and holly

angels1 · 26/07/2010 08:20

morning ladies,

I'm very impressed with hubbard and all she managed to fit in at the weekend - you've packed more into 2 days than I think I've done in a month!

To those discussing water births - I've had a back problem recently (slipped a disc a few months ago whilst in a circuits class at the gym - my fault for trying to be healthy!). My osteopath warned me that I'm going to have serious back trouble whilst being pg and said a water birth might be good for me in this respect. I'm not sure if you can have an epidural and water birth though??? At this point my thinking is to get the strongest drugs I can to get me through!

ledkr I've read brown blood (as opposed to red) is a good sign (if you have to bleed iykwim). Take it easy today and ring mw who I'm sure will reassure you. Tbh I'm not sure if she'll get you a scan if you've had one on sat and got another booked for wed though. Hope you're mw is nice and reassuring though - my doc essentially prepared me for the worst and made me think I was mcing then the scan was fine. It gave me even more panic! I had bleeding after some nookie with DH and read this is common, but there are lots of other reasons for bleeding too. And if you havent' had any more (?) that's a good sign. When I mc I got small but regular amounts in the beginning.

Oh - I've found a very good reason for us ladies to get DP/H to do all the cleaning for us. I read that using cleaning chemicals (esp bleach) and aerosol air freshners during pg (I guess and inhaling the fumes a bit) makes our future children more likely to have asthma. I said that one to DH yesterday and the bathroom got cleaned - miracle!!

My 'juicy' dreams began last night . It's so annoying that I'm so up for it in my dreams but it's the last thing I can think about when I'm awake!

CheeseChomper · 26/07/2010 08:29

Hi all,

haven't been on for a while as been on holiday- i'm so sorry to hear about the ladies who have left us .

I've got my scan (i'm 12+6) later on this afternoon, and feel sick with nerves, convinced i'm going to get there and find out the baby had died...sorry, negative I know, but i've had pretty much no symptoms the last couple of weeks and have actually been feeling good! Shouldn't complain but you can't win- bad symptoms = yuk, no symptoms = worried!

Wish me luck!

sweetnitanitro · 26/07/2010 09:22

angels I don't think you can have an epidural with a water birth because they need to monitor you, but I could be wrong!

I am looking into a home water birth, I really wanted a water birth with DD but it was 'out of order' on the night I couldn't get one. This time I shall buy my own flipping pool and make damn sure it's working!

cheesechomper, best of luck with your scan let us know how it goes.

smallblackflowers, thanks for the tip! I looked on their website but it seems like they are not based in my area. I might drop them an email just in case they are planning to expand.

sweetnitanitro · 26/07/2010 09:23

BTW I found this site when I was googling, it's got some great info on home water births if anyone else is thinking about it. www.homebirth.org.uk/

angels1 · 26/07/2010 10:18

sweetnitanitro I'd love to have a home birth, but I'm too scared to do it incase anything goes wrong having never been through it before (and wanting pain relief). I'm not that close to a hospital should anything go wrong so think it could be a bit risky. I think it would be so much less stressful to go through it in the comfort of you own home. I HATE hospitals and sure I'm going to be a terrible patient and will just want to get home straight away! I also have a really special diet and am convined the hospital won't be able to offer me anything I can eat (am already thinking my hospital bag will be full of food I can eat for apres-birth!) if I have to stay a few days.

I keep quite fancying tinned tomato soup, but only the thought of eating it, not actually eating it. Makes no sense to you I'm sure, but perfect sense to me

sweetnitanitro · 26/07/2010 10:26

Ooh, I want some tinned tomato soup now you've said that! I know what you mean, I thought about a home birth the first time around but I was worried so in the end I booked into the midwife unit which was a nice compromise- too bad it was closed on the night! You can't have an epidural on MW units though.

I'm sure the hospital will be fine, the staff were lovely to me when I went and I was allowed home around 8 or 9 hours after DD was born despite having a 2nd degree tear. And they let me take my own food in, all I could eat after she was born was cereal bars and they tasted like cardboard.

Right, I'm going to the co-op to get some tomato soup

moonminmama · 26/07/2010 10:33

Hello all. I am trying desperately to keep up with every one on here but failing miserably I am however in awe of hubbard! I haven't done that much in months. Went on a hen do to Leeds a few weeks ago but couldn't possibly have lasted until 4am ( I drove the hour journey home at 9.30) then thoroughly enjoyed the wedding last Friday.

The fact that the carpet smell in our new house still makes me sick meant that I thoroughly enjoyed staying away from home over night. Unfortunately it feels ten times worse to come home to. Somedays I cope fine, others I find it really upsetting that I can't bare to be in my lovely new home

enough of my moaning. I'm glad to hear that on the whole the news is positive. I'm looking forward to my scan next Tuesday. Hopefully make the smelly carpet situation seem less depressing!

moonminmama · 26/07/2010 10:35

Oh and it's chicken soup all the way for me

angels1 · 26/07/2010 10:38

I feel really sorry for your carpet situation moominmama, must be horrible, and that smell lasts for ages doesn't it? I keep getting wafts of cigarette smoking through my windows as live next door to a pub and they all go outside my front door to smoke now they can't smoke inside. It's very frustrating but at least closing the windows gets rid of most of it. Just means I'm forever up and down opening and closing the windows as I love the fresh air (when it's not smoky). I'm getting scarily close to shout abuse at them for smelling up my house when I have to close the windows though - I'm blaming the hormones as I'm normally quite passive!

angels1 · 26/07/2010 10:39

pea and mint soup has been my only source of fruit and veg in over a week now - soup all the way!

scubamummy · 26/07/2010 11:40

angels I know exactly what you mean about cigarette smoke, especially with my hyper-sensitive pregnancy nose that can smell anything from 20 paces away. Our downstairs neighbour smokes and it wafts up to our open windows, don't want to close them when it's so stuffy but haven't got the guts to say anything to him about it...

I found that breathing through a tissue folded in half works to keep the nasty stuff out of my lungs! Not ideal but it prevents me having to jump up and down all the time to get to the windows. Although god knows I need the exercise right now!

PDR · 26/07/2010 12:29

angels as far as I can remember from last time, if you want to have a water birth then pain relief is limitied to gas and air - no epidural because you will need a drip and constant monitoring and no pethidine etc as these drugs make you feel drowsy and you might drown but things may have changed... also the water itself acts as a form of pain relief I have heard.

I was not allowed a water birth last time and will not be this time as I am "high-risk". I have been booked in under consultant led care this time but yet to hear from the consultant....

Anyone else in the same boat?

grigglepuff · 26/07/2010 12:35

My midwife asked me where I'd like to give birth during my booking in appointment. I said the hospital because I have a bad back bad and when it gets really bad I can barely walk. By the time I reach 40 weeks I can imagine the pain I'll be in so hospital would be good for pain relief etc. She recommended a home water birth as she said it is the best pain relief for people with bad backs. I would have always said a home birth would be my first choice but scared myself into thinking hospital is the way forward. My midwife was so positive and encouraging that I'm now seriously considering it. The other option is the hospitals birthing centre which is also supposed to be very good but I think I would much rather be at home despite the upheaval it will most likely cause.
Anyways that all seems SOOO far away - not even had my scan yet - 6th August so I have over a week to do - so nervous and excited!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/07/2010 12:59

I expect I'll be "high risk" because I'll be going for another VBAC and stand a good chance of having gestational diabetes again, but last time that just meant that one of my antenatal appointments got swapped for a "consultant" appointment (which was actually with a harassed underling who was running late, hadn't read my notes, and then mis-read the growth scan report... so, soooo much more helpful and reassuring than an appointment with my normal midwife, then...).

I have booking in on 4 August and currently have NHS scan booked for 16 August and FMC private scan booked for 19 August. I suppose I should really cancel the NHS scan.

ledkr · 26/07/2010 13:00

Angels...bleeding has not come back and mw not concerned. Just praying it won't come back and looking forward to Wed. Scan will be very detailed and I hope reassuring and can then tell my dcs. what a shock for them and the baby to have in many big brothers ha ha. dd is out with my mum so am having a good rest and eating lots.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/07/2010 13:07

I don't know how I am ever going to keep this quiet until 12 weeks. I saw an online friend in RL yesterday -- admittedly she does know I'm pregnant, but the first thing she said was "wow, you really are showing already, aren't you?".

I've got to spend the weekend before my scan at my mother's surrounded by random relations. And it's too hot for big sloppy sweaters. Aaaargh.

Don't want to tell rest of family before DS (and DD, although she won't really grasp the whole thing), and don't want to tell DD until scan has checked for problems.

GinaFB · 26/07/2010 13:09

Hello all, hope all the ladies here are ok. I have had my scan this morning and am relieved to say that so far everything looks ok. I just have to wait for the bloods back for the Downs testing. Due date has changed to 1st Feb so can the stats be updated please!

Becuase of my Spina Bifida history I am booked in for a more detailed scan at 16 weeks with Fetal Medicine to check the brain for early indicators of SB. I will also have the 20 week anomolies scan to check for everything else and to check the spine in detail.

All in all we are very relieved that the baby had a heartbeat but not getting too excited until we have passed the 20 week hurdle!

G x

Afternoon ladies,

Had a nice weekend feeling pretty much OK most of the time, but feeling cr@p again today. At least I got to enjoy the weekend though. Yesterday went out for lovely Sunday lunch and walk with parents, and it was soooo nice to be able to wear just comfortable clothes and not worry about hiding my rapidly expanding mid-section!

Hopefully if scan tomorrow is AOK will be able to 'come out' properly on Wednesday which means comfy clothes at work etc. too. Have really uncomfy jeans on today which are not good - already undone, with bump band over the top, but still uncomfy. Although I was big to start with, I am definitely noticing expanding middle now so it will be a relief when this is no longer a covert operation.

Tried a maternity bra on in mothercare on Saturday but didn't buy due to the general hideousness of it - just flattened boobs to either side, and I am used to having a bit of 'lift' so was not impressed! Will have to try some other styles.

Also spoke to big sis (who has one DS 2yrs)Sunday and she has offered lends of all her 0-6 months stuff like pram, baby bath, etc. so will save a bit of cash.

Still terrified of bad news tomorrow

D

ledkr · 26/07/2010 13:26

prof I am not even bothering to hide it now but dd seems to have got used to my new shape.I am so excited to tell her hopefully on Wednesday after my visit to fmc. Word has leaked out to my ex family in law and I can't think how. I have a sneaking suspicion its from the hospital as one is a nurse. if I find out I will take it very far: I still denied it which meant lying to my ex sIl who is a close friend as I just dont want anyone to know before my dcs and until . Know It's ok. how annoying is that

PDR · 26/07/2010 14:51

Prof hope my experience with the consultant is a bit better! The midwife said I would get the first appointment after I went for my NHS scan so we'll see.... She also said I would be scanned more often than normal.

I am also showing big time and finding it hard to deny when people ask me straight out! My smile kind of gives it away I think!

I've had 2 scans now and both were normal so fingers crossed everything will be ok.

ledkr if you suspect a breach of confidentiality can you speak to the hospital? At the very least they can investigate on your behalf... Do you think when healthcare professionals look at a file there is a way of tracking it? When I sign in on the computers at work/make changes to people's files etc there is an audit trail so you can always see who has been messing with what...

moonminmama · 26/07/2010 15:06

Angels, I wear glasses so have been walking around the house with a baby wipe folded under my specs to try to keep out the smell. Looks very attractive as I'm sure you can imagine

I'm praying it will end soon.
