Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:

angels yeah Florence Rose was in the running for us too! Also it seems everyone has Rose as a middle name nowadays! boo

hubbard86 · 25/08/2010 23:43

had nt scan yesterday and everything looked fine, bean was scratching his head and really wriggling around. So pleased most peoples ms has eased off. Mines gone but the overwhelming tiredness looks like its here to stay. My psd has started. Finding the stairs into my flat really hard with a pushchair, will be very relieved when i finally move in 4 weeks. I had gd in my last pregnancy which was poorly controlled, ended up on increasing doses of insulin until induction and emergency cs at 38wks. I am really dreading having it this time. I have a gtt in 3wks and hope its negative and stays negative for as long as possible

linz17xxx · 26/08/2010 08:15

Had my midwife appointment yesterday. Heard baby's heartbeat :) and had my bloods taken for the downs test. Talked to my midwife about a water birth and I think I definitely want one now. 20 week scan on 22nd september :) cant wait. Ordered my quinny buzz 3 too which I absolutely love. Iv also seen the cot I want but don't know whether its too soon to get it yet. I'm scared of cursing things. What about all of you, have you looked at buying things yet?

sweetnitanitro · 26/08/2010 08:51

Glad the MW appointment went well Linz. I still haven't booked mine Blush, I've still got a week to go though. I am planning to have a water birth as well, are you going to the hospital or staying at home?

Good news about your scan hubbard86 :)

I've still had a few cramps here and there as well, I think it's fairly normal.

Florence Rose wasn't on our list but I think we have finally decided on a girls name so now we've got one of each. I'm sure one of them will change before February though.

ledkr · 26/08/2010 09:24

Gosh! I have no intention of buying anything yet! is that foolish? its been 8yrs since last had baby so can't remember. have been looking at pushchairs on reviews tho. I want a fairly good size pram as walk to school and thought baby could sleep in It during the day so I am ready to go. Also need it to fit in car and be a pushchair too. any ideas you younger experts

americanexpat · 26/08/2010 09:33

I had a letter through yesterday telling me that my double test results show me as low-risk. No actual risk given, but I assume the full results will be in my maternity notes when I collect them. The midwife said they'd only contact me if I was high risk, so was a bit Hmm when I saw the letter. Definitely relieved!

I've not bought anything yet but I've started looking at prams and reviews. I need something that folds relatively small and that I can get in and out of the car boot easily. I don't know how much we'll use it realistically so not keen to spend £££ on it.

sweetnitanitro · 26/08/2010 09:39

ledkr, I got a maxi taxi and carrycot, both off ebay, and they fit in my car just fine (have an Alfa 147 with a not-too-generous boot) if I take the buggy's back wheels off. When the baby has outgrown the carry cot you can just use it as a buggy. There are loads of smaller ones around now, depends if you want brand new or not though.

I haven't bought anything yet either, but we kept all of DD's stuff so I don't think I need anything. I might get a few extra nappies and wraps and maybe some new babygros.

sweetnitanitro · 26/08/2010 09:40

Forgot to say, are we going to need a new thread soon? How many posts are we allowed per thread?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 10:00

A thousand, so we've got a little way to go.

moonminmama · 26/08/2010 10:26

I have pram and for from ds. Purposely bought red so boy or girl could use it. Not sure where all the fittings are for our cot though so need to get onto that asap.

Glad to hear about the successful scans and blood results Smile

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 10:33

Have bought new carseat already because Mothercare had a special offer on (had given old one to SIL). The only other thing I need to buy is the (conveniently just being released) reclining baby seat for the Quinny Zapp chassis (have been using Quinny Zapp with DD since she was 12 months but the standard seat unit is unsuitable for under 6 months -- now they are releasing the Quinny Zapp Xtra the new seat unit is going to be available as an upgrade option to use with an old chassis too, hurrah! I will probably buy a new sling too, even though I don't need one, as I have a sling habit. Other than that we should be sorted.

angels1 · 26/08/2010 10:35

Morning ladies (yawn) I've only just woken up!!! Don't think I've slept this late since I was a teen, and I STILL feel tireD! Had a terrible night though - woke up feeling l ike I was having a panic attack (sweaty, shaky, heart beating astonishingly fast, feeling sick etc) then got terrible (don't laugh) amount of hiccupy burps and wind. Couldn't sleep after that for ages. Goodness knows what it is - maybe I ate something too airy/gassy or something as I do have a mad digestion. Anyone else get anything odd like this??

On the subject of cars, I'm quite concerned y car will be too small to even fit a buggy - we only have a toyota yaris - anyone know is this is too small? We were looking at new cars and were going to get a honda jazz, which, although still small, had a big gap under the back seats that could have fitted buggy in, but then what with housemove etc we don't have the cash. Thinking a yaris should be OK so long as we put one back seat down to fit the buggy along that through the boot, but means we will only ever be able to fit DH, me and baby in car with noone else. It's also only a 3 door so I'm sure I'll be drive mad with bendinbg about trying to get car seat in and out.

We haven't got anything ledkr but should get some freebies from family/friends so waiting to see what they have.

40Weeks · 26/08/2010 10:38

Thanks Little Silver we too have a Zafira (but an old one) so maybe I should just get off my arse pull my finger out and get the baby carrier out of the loft. Although I think we only have a lap belt in the middle so actually no point. I also dont want any kids in the 6th or 7th seats for the same reason. And even if I decided to sit in the boot we still couldnt get pushchair in. Will look for car seat threads though, thanks.

Also, am getting tummy cramps almost daily. Feels like period pains :( I guess it should be expected with all the growing going on. I didnt have them this bad the last two times though.

Thanks for putting me in the stats Professor

40Weeks · 26/08/2010 10:38

Ha ha sorry the cross out didnt work for me! You get my gist though!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 10:38

You should be fine if you get a small-folding buggy -- for example (I'm returning to my theme here but don't work for them, honestly) the Quinny Zapp is the smallest-folding buggy on the market so I can't imagine the Quinny Zapp Xtra would give you any issues with the boot on the Yaris. Some vast behemoth of a buggy probably would.

wigglesrock · 26/08/2010 10:48

Also going to have to start looking at prams, moses baskets etc, have 2dds and they used the same stuff but we moved house last year and in a fit of "oh my god, can't believe we are actually moving", tears of joy etc gave a lot of stuff to charity shop!! To be fair my dd2 was also really hard on equipment, if there was a bit of fabric on pram she hadn't been sick on I hadn't found it Smile.

My granny had bought us a really good pram for dd1 and then when my dds got to about 6 months I bought a cheaper buggy, I wasn't driving when I had dds so can't believe how much easier it is now! Re cars I have an old Renault Scenic and it should be fine for 3 in the back, although my dd1 is just on a booster seat. The boot is huge.

40Weeks · 26/08/2010 10:59

My friend has just bought a Mini and the quinny zap fits in that, and that is also a small boot. Its the only buggy that will fit in, according to the manufacturers.

Yes friend has a scenic, but a grand scenic - if I had a proper seat belt in the middle of the rear seat we would be fine, probably. Will be nice to have a new car though (well new to us anyway)

sweetnitanitro · 26/08/2010 11:09

Ooh, what slings have you got Professor? I've got a ring sling which I love and a baby bjorn which I HATE but DH loves, and I will definitely need a back up or 3 for when the ring sling gets puked on. I was thinking of making my own wrap (when I say 'make' I really mean 'buy a big bit of fabric and cut it to the right size').

wigglesrock · 26/08/2010 11:13

Keep telling myself that I will use my HIP grant for buggy etc but deep down I feel the need for new boots/coat, surely they would benefit my health in pregnancy by making me smile Wink

I am really lucky, have an extended family close by and they usually buy a thing each ie moses basket, buggy, cot, and they even let me choose it!!! which is quite a relief given that taking an 83 and 98 year old granny to a baby shop would probably result in them passing on "advice" to other pregnant women guaranteed to send them running to the hills!! Still mentally scarred by my granny telling me when she found out I was pregnant with dd1 that "that took a long time, I thought you were barren!!" I had been married for 7 years!!

40Weeks · 26/08/2010 11:17

WIgglesrock I think you should DEFFO buy stuff for yourself - lets face it, you will always find the money to buy stuff the baby needs and people will also buy things for the baby. But you need stuff too, maybe even a pregnancy massage too Wink - thats healthy!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 11:24

I have a hug-a-bub, a Close baby carrier, a Cwtchi, a Solarweave Connecta, an Ergo and an aargh-my-mind-has-gone-blank-and-I-can't-think-of-the-name. Also a Kelty Kangaroo which is more of a carrier like the Bjorn but is better IMO.

Blush

Mind you I'm not 100% positive where any of them other than the Connecta are right now (hmm... they might have been in the boxes of baby things that went to SIL...), but I've got a few months to find out...

I'm rather fancying a Rose and Rebellion or a custom Babyhawk but I really can't justify either.

ledkr · 26/08/2010 11:29

Am having most stuff from my grandson. how sureal is that? will spend grant on buggy tho as don't need anything for me. DIL is planning a shower so am hoping for stuff then like vests etc. had everything with dd including crib basket swing and 600 pram that didn't fit in car durrr! How things change eh.
Prof all my babies went mental if I put them in sling. do you think I smell?

linz17xxx · 26/08/2010 11:30

I am consultant led so I have to give birth in hospital but I definitely want a water birth. I've got a silver cross sleepover classic from dd and then the quinny buzz 3 for shopping and goin in the car as it is tiny :)

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 11:35

Mine don't like it inside so full-scale babywearing was right out, but liked it outside (and DS went mental in a pram). I never got on with a ring sling type, though -- found a wrap (when newborn) or mei tai style worked better for us.

But probably you smell, yes... Grin

byronicheroine · 26/08/2010 12:34

Hello all, I know I'm a bit late joining but a friend sent me this way and I like what I see. I'm due the 10the of february, but I live in Greece so don't have the support network that I would back home. This seems like a close second though (maybe even better....?).
I'm enjoying feeling better after the first few weeks, avoiding my DP Greek parents as much as possible (I think they are confused by the lack of a huge bump!) and looking forward to getting to know you all :)
