Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

ledkr hope the headache improves ledkr. I've had a hirrble headache the past couiple of days so sympathise...I know they say headaches are common in pregnancy butn this bad?!

I'm hoping for some reassurance ladies - and I know (hope) this is probably nothing...

DH cleaned out the microwave last night using flash spray (you're only suppose to use mild stuff like diluted washing up liquid) and this morning I felt really rough anbd hungry and the only thing I could manage was microwave rice and a bit of lasagne (I know, random!!). Stuck it in the microwave but it started smelling of the lemon chemical flash spray......took the meal out maybe slightly earlier than usual as worried about the chemicals from the microwave, so it was hot, but not quite as overburnt as I usually do (DH moans I always put things in for too long but I just prefer to be safe!). I ate the food despite the microwave smelling of cleaning chemicals as I was so hungry andit was the last portion and now I'm paniking myself I'm poisoned myself....which I hope is just a silly panic (??).

If anyone else could reassure me that I will be fine (or panic me out if ou think I need it..)

suzym1984 · 24/08/2010 11:03

Hi, back from MW and everything is fine. Heard baby heartbeeat which was so cute, I started filling up which is soooo soppy of me. And she didnt take any blood, yipppeeeee!

Angels what are you worried about hun, the chemicals or the food maybe not being so hot? Either way I would say don't worry. If you are worried about the food, then as long as you dont feel ill then you should be ok. As for the chemicals, I have no idea really. I have been cleaning with my usual cleaning products and never given it a second thought- should I have?
I very much doubt any chemicals will have gotten on your food, as it will have been covered anyway.

Don't worry yourself about it! Grin

angels1 · 24/08/2010 11:11

glad appointment went well suzy.

Think I'm worried about chemicals and not cooking enough. The dish wasn't covered Blush . I feel a bit ill,but then I do often anyway just with bad digestion/ms....so who knows, but I am a worrywort (especially when food is cocerned!).

Just checked my work email and so pleased as my students did well in their results. Still 2 students' results to come but all I've seen were pretty much as expected or better than expected, so I feel very pleased as I felt really bad as I missed a couple of lessons before they took their exam with ms - clearly my work was already done Wink .

ledkr · 24/08/2010 12:04

Angels. I wouldn't worry but can you ring mw for reassurance. I was tucking into smoked salmon on hols for breakfast and mw said shouldn't have I also took brufen and travel sickness pills before bfp not to mention got very drunk on girls night before missed a period. I just think I can't change it so mentioned to mw who seemed unconcerned so put it to back of mind. we must be exposed to lots of chemicals daily without knowing. LOL at u allowing nothing to ruin your bizarre breakfast choices.

suzym1984 · 24/08/2010 12:32

Well for a start I wouldnt worry about chamicals, for example, how many ppl will be preparing food on surfaces that have had anti bacterial stuff on (I know I am!). As for the heat, I am sure it will have been cooked properly and if you had food poisoning I am sure you would know about it by now! I had it once before and can only describe the vomiting as projectile Blush!

I was on holiday recently and ate an omlette with dubiously runny eggs, and also accidently ate some parma ham. But I am just trying to forget about it as I am generally very careful!

angels1 · 24/08/2010 12:34

Thanks for your reassurances - hopefully I'm making a panic out of nothing.

my bizarre breakfast choices are only that as there's like nothing else I can eat as I've made myself sick of so much from eating it with ms! I'm just running out of foods I can eat!!

grigglepuff · 24/08/2010 12:43

in fact reading this has made me realise my rather yummy soft boiled eggs this morning should have very much been a no no!

Can't worry too much about it - as long as you;re not feeling sick and try not to eat the forbidden foods too often :)

ledkr · 24/08/2010 12:49

That's why it made me laugh. I have had half bottle of lucozade some French fries and some cauliflower cheese with ketchup so far. Sometimes I can't think what to eat.was in luxurious all inc hotel last week and food choice out of this world . I would wall around with my plate staring at the food then come back with some chips and plain pasta and slice of tomato! one day they had mash and peas and I ate tons of it. Just taken my allowed codiene and think headache maybe clearing at last. can't actually say I enjoy pregnancy. can't believe I done it 5 times. are u dreading going back to work? I am

LittleSilver · 24/08/2010 12:52

Hi. Can I join? I'm coming late but have been following thread since 3+1 and read of so many mcs I couldn't cope with the thought of having to as to be removed from stats Sad. But today I had my booking appt with the mw and heard hb, so am reasonably confident enough to join!

Well, that appointment was largely a waste of time, much as predicted... Hmm

In fact if it hadn't been for the GBS result (today's urine sample clear, BTW) there'd have been nothing at all to talk about, and a medical student wandered off with my notes so in spite of having a 9.10 appointment I had to sit there for ages and ages and ages waiting to be called.

GBS discussion was generally as positive as I'd have realistically hoped for. Hospital policy is that I am now deemed to be GBS+ and should have IV antibiotics during labour have big luminous stickers on my maternity notes to that effect and everything and that therefore because my labour was quick last time I should come in as soon as I get twinges so they can get me on an IV. But if I don't get antibiotics 4 hours before the baby arrives they won't automatically put the baby on IV antibiotics but will get a paediatrician to assess and decide whether it seems like a good idea or not. She was generally in favour of my getting a private ECM screen done at 35-37 weeks, though (it wouldn't change their policy on whether they wanted to put me on IV antibiotics but would factor into paediatrician's assessment).

So what I'm actually going to do is get the 35-37 week screen, then if that comes back positive do as per policy and go in at the first twinge. If it comes back negative I'm going to assume I don't have active GBS (which is what all the studies would support), stay at home as long as possible when labour starts and probably not have the IV antibiotics (last time I got to hospital already in transition, and I don't think anyone will be able to get near me with a needle when I'm in transition...).

So, we have a plan. Well, they have a plan and I have a plan and they overlap in at least some details Grin.

"20 week" scan booked for 19 October (21+3), and next proper appointment at the Diaban clinic on 9 November to be issued with my little clicky blood test thing on the assumption I'll have GD this time round as well. So a couple of months of twiddling my thumbs in the meantime...

angels1 · 24/08/2010 14:30

hey littlesilver Grin

ledkr I'm really worried about how I'll cope with going back to work tbh. I have a week and a half left. I'm still feeling sick on and off, have to eat all the time, am exceedingly odd with smells still, very tired, get crippling headaches, bad backache on and off so it's hard to walk sometimes - I'm not sure how I'll manage to run around teaching kids how to cook - I just won't be able to dash around my room and stand up all the time like I'm used to but I'm very bad at work at pushing myself too hard. I'm also thinking I may have to teach nothing but cake making until christmas as I can't cope with the smell of meat/spices/most cooking in general!!

glad your appointment sort of had some use prof

Just got back from sainsburys and brought myself a stir fry pack which I just cooked - a semi-normal meal I quite enjoyed - horah! Here's hoping I don't get too bloated after it - I don't know how much more bloating I can take!

ledkr · 24/08/2010 14:53

My office is moving in Oct which means half hr extra drive every day am so pd off. was going to work till xmas but prob won't now. don't like job anyway so just adds to it. Headache still bad and poor dd is bored to tears. friend popping up in bit will be nice to see someone!

angels1 · 24/08/2010 15:07

I guess at least you'll be off on maternity leave a couple of months after the move so it's not like you'll do the commute for months/years, but that does sound really annoying ledkr. Even things like the extra petrol adds up quickly. Btw have you tried that 4head rub stuff on your head? I know it won't touch killing the pain, but it might help a little, and there's an accupuncture point on your hand you can press that helps headaches that really really works if you know where that is.

We had a new head mistress last year and I got the impression she spent a year getting to grips with the school and she intends on changing lots of school policies etc for the new school year next month, which probably means lots of extra work for everyone until we are used to it..

worrymummy · 24/08/2010 15:07

It's taken all morning to catch up with everyone's news! Nice to read about shopping and names though, and good scans of course.

My fave name is Noah! - but gutted it's becoming v common, also its ds2's middle name. Still love it though. I'm assuming it's another XY!

As far as shopping goes I'm ebaying as I gave all my maternity stuff away and don't have anywhere to shop/want to spend the money. Will need some school clothes though and scarily soon...

After saying last time that I thought I could feel movements weeks ago, since 16 weeks (last week) have been desperately trying to feel something and can't...now getting slightly worried as my 2 ds were SUCH wrigglers and kickers.

Also feeling tired again and VERY lethargic, on the plus side have just completed the Millenium Trilogy (Swedish thrillers) which were gripping!

Thanks to whoever it was for reminding me about the NCT sales, have found out when the next one is in Hastings! And once I have found out what the gender is (def want to this time as didn't before and regretted it the 2nd time) I might be able to get rid of some stuff and use the spare room again!!

Sorry this is so long and all about me xx

worrymummy · 24/08/2010 15:38

Prof just read your post about GBS, interesting as they seem to have changed the guidelines since 6 months ago. When I was 35 weeks I found out I was GBS+ which threw a spanner in the works for my homebirth plans and meant ds2 had to have IV antibiotics for 5 days as they found it on his skin. i didn't want him to have them but the consultant said he had to (my labour was too short/got to hosp too late).

Anyway this time the mw said they don't assume that you are + and they don't even test so I can have a homebirth if I want. Which is good I think, though maybe I should get tested to be on safe side?

angels1 · 24/08/2010 15:40

Yes worrymummy, since someone on here mentined Noah as a name (can't remember who, sorry) it's become my favourite boys name, but I didn't know it was becoming common now - I don't know anyone by the name of noah. Tilly (matilda) is still my fave for a girls name. They are the only 2 that DH and I both agree and like (although DH likes tilly but not matilda). AT the minute we are just trying to think about names we like and make a list then when we find out the gender we can get a little more thoughtful about it.

I've just made some cheese scones and put them in the oven in the hope of giving myself something different to eat from the repetivie lasagne I've been eating all day every day for about 2 weeks.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/08/2010 15:51

They are assuming that I am + because I had GBS in my urine sample at 10 weeks. Apparently that is me labelled for the whole pregnancy Hmm.

I think what the consultant was saying was that if I just had the one positive GBS result at 10 weeks, didn't get the antibiotics but there was no sign that the baby had been affected (no GBS on skin and no symptoms) then they wouldn't automatically do IV antibiotics for the baby. I think that sounds right based on my reading of the RCOG guidelines -- if the only risk factor is one GBS+ test early in pregnancy then ABs should be offered but if there are more risk factors then they should be strongly suggested (or words along those lines). I think in any individual hospital/PCT what you get is a mishmash of their individual policies and the RCOG guidelines.

In your position I probably would get tested at 35-37 weeks -- I saw what my friend went through being unsure whether her DD would survive and then having her in intensive care for a month (and then waiting a couple of years to see whether there was any developmental delay) so I do think GBS should be taken seriously, but there's a difference between "seriously" (testing for it at a point and via a method where a result will mean something) and "being pointlessly twitchy" (really, my chances of being GBS+ at 40 weeks are scarcely any different from those of any random pregnant woman).

CheeseChomper · 24/08/2010 16:59

Grigglepuff - Been meaning to respond to your worries about high HGC levels!

I too had very high HGC levels when my bloods were taken, and my scan also showed up a possible reverse flow in baby's heart, giving me a 1:73 of a baby with DS, which was a huge shock as i'm only 26 Shock

However, I had a CVS and all was okay and baby doesn't have downs or any other chromosonal disorders, i'm probably just a weirdo with unusual results Grin. I don't know your stance on CVS', but I must admit that this has put my mind at rest no end. can you request a CVS, or an amnio?

I got told last week at my 16 week appointment at the midwife's that I might also need an extra scan here and there after 20 weeks to check baby's growth. I was a bit upset at first, thinking 'what's wrong with me?!!!!', but now i'm actually glad they're going to be keeping an eye on things.

TallulahBelly14 · 24/08/2010 19:08

Hi ladies! I've been away for a bit while we moved house (very stressful!) and it's all go over here!

I see that everyone's having 16 week check ups - I had a look at my appointment cards and I'm not sure I've got one booked. Should everyone get one?? I'm worried I've been missed out...?

ledkr · 24/08/2010 19:19

Worrymummy..I too thought I felt flutters from about 11wks but since getting to 16 have felt none! heard heartbeat yesterday tho so not concerned.
Prof I agree about taking it seriously. my sister is neo natal nurse and urged me to get checked asap. Found out yesterday that if my anti bodies increase my babe may end up with transfusion couldn't really find out anything else and am too scared to Google.
Headache still strong have not left sofa. wonder if its a virus. What a waste of a day.

sweetnitanitro · 24/08/2010 19:22

CheeseChomper, that's great news about your CVS results- what is the difference between a CVS and an amnio? I thought they were the same thing Blush is one a cord sample and the other a fluid sample?

Tallulah, hope you settle into the new house soon! I was told to phone up and book my 16 week check, which I must get around to at some point...

I've got quite a bump now Shock I can't believe it, it took me forever to show with DD. I can also feel this baby moving around quite a lot, he/she is right little wriggler Grin I just can't believe how early it all happens the second time around. And I still keep forgetting I'm pregnant.

wigglesrock · 24/08/2010 20:14

Hi all, angels read earlier post re cleaning stuff etc. Don't worry any normal household cleaning will be fine, I'm a cleaner and even the stuff I use is ok. I'm thinking of Noah as a name but dh still not over keen!!

Very disappointed thought the all encompassing sickness was finally starting to lift, treated myself and sister to cinema and lunch, had really nice time, got home and threw up again, again and again. Have eventually got dds to bed and lying up watching Entourage box sets.

tadjennyp · 24/08/2010 20:17

I have looked pregnant for weeks now but there is a definite bump instead of just fat, I hope! I have a quad test booked for Thursday morning but I hope they will check for a heartbeat again as I haven't felt anything yet. It's my third so I would have thought I would feel flutters at least! Hope everyone is feeling well and not dwelling too much on test results.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/08/2010 20:29

CVS is a placenta sample and can be done from 11-14 weeks; amniocentesis is a fluid sample and can be done from 16 (? or maybe 15 ?) weeks. CVS used to have a higher associated m/c rate (so people would often wait and do amnio instead) but these days in places that are used to doing the procedure the rate is around the same as for amnio.
