Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

My DD is Isabel! Grin I don't know any others but keep getting told that it's getting very common. I still love it though!

We also like Charlotte (maybe Lottie for short) but can't think of any boys names. I like James but DH not keen. We're definitely going to find out the sex if we can, it makes choosing a name so much easier!

Wanderingsheep · 19/08/2010 22:07

Linz17, are you me? Hmm Grin I've just noticed that we both have DDs called Isabel, both like the name Charlotte and your birthday is September same as mine! Although my scan is October! Weird!

linz17xxx · 19/08/2010 22:26

That is wierd! Maybe we just have very good taste :)

Wanderingsheep · 19/08/2010 22:38

Oh yes, most definitely! Smile

hubbard86 · 20/08/2010 00:07

i have bought a pram and cot already. My pram is an old fashioned style grandstyle pram that is only a year old that i picked up from a car boot for £20 and my cot i bought through preloved website for £15 (will buy new mattress for cot ) both items look brand new. We can't afford to spend too much as saving for a deposit on a house. Still have lots of items left over from ds so will use as much as possible as have lots of neutral stuff.

As for names, finding it really hard to find ones that i really like. With ds i had lists made out by now and fell in love with thomas william and lilly grace but i don't feel the same about the girls names now so really stuck good thing i've still got another 6months to find one i like.

sweetnitanitro · 20/08/2010 08:35

Wow, those are some good bargains, I'm impressed! I love picking up bargains like that. There's an NCT sale near me in a few weeks so if I need anything it'll probably come from there.

americanexpat · 20/08/2010 08:54

We're keen to know the sex, if they can tell at the scan (midwife warned that they wouldn't put too much effort into it if the baby isn't cooperating) but I don't think we're keen enough to pay for a private scan. We've settled on a first name for a girl but a boy's name is a bit more difficult. We also haven't decided which surname to use as I didn't change my name.

I've tried to start shopping but I look at all the options and get overwhelmed. I'm a bit sad I won't be having a baby shower (one of those great American traditions) since we're so far from family.

the shopping list Smile

We are off to Gullivers world today although the weather is pretty grim. Fingers crossed it stays dry!

suzym1984 · 20/08/2010 10:00

Remember Dont think they take bloods at 16 week check, but give results from the 12 weeks bloods they took, if that makes sense?

As for names...we change our minds on a daily basis Grin DH is convined it is a boy (that seems quite common doesnt it, wonder if men all secretly want boys!) and we like Thomas for a boy (that was also my Grandads name).

Going shopping again today...more work maternity clothes for me!

Are any other teachers worried how the kids will react when u go back in Sept with a much rounder tummy? The 5 yr olds in my class will be v confused!

angels1 · 20/08/2010 10:10

suzym I think all my students will just think I've been eating an obscene amount all summer (which actually is true...). I'm at a secondary school so you'd think they'd work it out....but another teacher was pg last year and when she was really far on (about a month from giving birth) some of the year 7's STILL hadn't actually worked out there was a baby in there - they thought she was just fat lol, give me strength for september please! Wink

jackinthebump · 20/08/2010 12:46

I am hoping to find out the sex of mine at my scan next friday, should be able to tell at 16 weeks but have another at 20 weeks so not as much of an issue for me!

I really want boys but DH wants girls! As for names, so far we are both agreed on Jack for a boy but cant really agree on Girls names, and obviously need 2! I also really like Isabel and strangely my name is Charlotte! DH is not a fan of Isabel though, but has said he will just name them while I'm too knackered to argue! My counter to this is to register them without him in the name of my choice! :o

Must say Maternity trousers are the most comfortable trousers I have ever worn!

angels1 · 20/08/2010 13:57

Well, I managed my first trip out to the shops since finding out I was pregnant and beinbg struck down with ms (woohoo). Only local out of town place and very fruitless. Decided I wanted to get some maternity trousers and maybe a couple of tops, just so I could wear trousers (I'm now stuck living in 2 dresses as they are my only 2 that fit) and feel decent about myself as have been feeling so fat and ugly since putting on so much weight from having to eat ALL THE TIME Sad. My trip involved a trip to next and debenhams which was useless as they didn't have any maternity stuff. Then went to mothercare but their jeans just didn't quite fit right (I have short legs and a fat tummy at the best of times!) so went to mamas and papas to find the first 2 pair of jeans looked lovely but were (gulp) £100. Way too pricey for me. There were some others but nothing the right size/length. It was useful in that I've decided I'll go for an over the bump trouser as I found the comfier and once it gets chillier it'll keep me warmer.

Fingers crossed I keep improving on the sickness front so I can try somewhere else next week hopefully with more luck. I'm thinking gap could be good.

sweetnitanitro · 20/08/2010 14:02

Oh that's a bummer. I'm sure I got some lovely stuff in Debenhams when I was expecting DD (think it's called Red Herring or something) but it was quite a big store.

Have you looked on ebay? Most of my stuff came from there, people sell big bundles of maternity stuff and you can get some real bargains. I got something like 15 tops and 3 pairs of jeans, plus swimming costume and other bits for about £40!

Asda does cheap maternity jeans and they do home delivery if there's no shop near you.

angels1 · 20/08/2010 14:17

Yeah I looked at ebay and there are some nice looking bits but I don't know if anyone else finds this but I always try on heaps of things and only ever buy very few as they don't quite fit or look right or suit me. I can never find trousers that fit me right in the best of times so only ever get maybe 1 pair of trousers a year or less as they never fit right. Mum is the same shape as me and she has the same trouble, so I must just be oddly built. There is an asda half an hour from me though so I could go there to get some stuff.

The journey to the shops was quite eventful as I got stuck in a massive line (didn't realise for a while) of cars following a funeral procession. Drove past the coffin/church and there were hundreds of people there as I think it was the funeral for a local young lad who died a couple of weeks ago in a car accident. All the grief in their eyes/the sight of all the flowers and I was a crying wreck all the way to the shops Confused

Hello all, waves to angels lots of fun and slightly dirty jokes to be had on jacuzzi thread!!

VV excited now we are talking about names - my favourite baby bit, I have 2dds Sofia & Olivia and am coming up a bit blank on boys names I quite like Luca or Noah (husband not a Noah fan!!) I find girls names much easier thinking of Elena or Anna but am sure this will change. Would love to find out sex at 20 weeks scan but a big note on my leaflet on 20 week scan saying don't ask us, we are not telling!!

angels1 · 20/08/2010 16:00

oh wigglesrock I do like Noah. Hadn't thought of that one. I too struggle to get excited about any boys names at all, Noah is the most exciting one I've found yet! I quite like Jacob (Jake for short) but found it's actually quite popular and don't want a very popular name.

I think teaching in a mainly boys school which is quite small so we know the students quite well, loads of boys names remind me of the students of that name, which mostly puts me off! sigh. I have a shortlist of 5 names I really like for girls (which is expanding by the day) but nothing really for boys.

Wanderingsheep · 20/08/2010 16:12

Wigglesrock, link to the Jacuzzi thread please! Grin

Don't think I would like my hospital not telling me the sex. I need to know!

wigglesrock · 20/08/2010 16:20

wanderingsheep the dirty jokes may have been in my head only!! I had posted yesterday in Pregnancy re swimming pools with bubbles and jacuzzis and it didn't take long for positioning of bubble jets to be mentioned!! Although to be honest most people mentioned it in a helpful way, I may have taken dirty out of it!! Grin

angels1 · 20/08/2010 16:32

I blame wrigglesrocks dirty mind entirely Wink

Wanderingsheep · 20/08/2010 17:03

Tut tut! < shakes head > Smile

PDR · 20/08/2010 19:26

Why would the hosp not tell you the sex?

moonminmama · 20/08/2010 19:36

Angels1 I'm glad to hear you are feeling better but not that your shopping trip didn't amount to much. I got my jeans from Red Herring. They aren't great but were in the sale so will put me on for a while. I got a dress and top from there too a few days ago unfortunately not in the sale Sad £50 for them both. They will be ok for work and the dress is black so hope to be able to accessorise it to change it's look

I too work in a high school and am back a week on Tuesday although I'm going in for results day on Tuesday. I can't imagine the look on my ex yr 11s faces when they see me because I am quite visibly pg now Smile

wigglesrock · 20/08/2010 20:07

PDR - "Policy of hospital not to confirm sex, priority of scan is to assess baby health and development" With dd1 they wouldn't even give us a hint, couldn't really see to be fair, with dd2 they hinted when I annoyed them enough. Obviously if you can see its a boy they don't deny it!! Actually having this one in a different hospital but they seem to be even stricter!!

PDR · 20/08/2010 21:29

Gosh I didn't know some trusts had such a strict policy! Our local hospital just warn you it's not 100% accurate and if the baby isn't in a good position then it's tough luck but if they can see and you want to know then surely they might as well tell you? Very strange policy!!! Babybond etc must be raking it in in your area!!!!

wigglesrock · 20/08/2010 21:38

PDR In Northern Ireland, no Babybond as far as I'm aware. Really expensive to get private scans done here, I looked into it for a different reason a while ago and no simple sex scan, had to get fancy dan £200 scan, decided not to bother. Good hospitals and GP care though, and fandabedozie schools!! almost makes up for giving the world James Nesbitt Smile
