Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

They don't actually need all that much, but it's fun to buy so pretend I didn't say that Grin

This being our third I think DH will have a fit if I buy anything. Bah.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/08/2010 15:36

(So I shall have to shop vicariously through you)

angels1 · 19/08/2010 15:48

afternoon all, yes it has got quite quiet around here recently.

Well, I'm totally Angry at my work. Sent an email in to request what days/hours my provisional teaching timetable will be in september (as I'm part time it's nice to know what days I'm in etc) only to find out that one of the things I do at work which takes up half of my 2.5 days a week they haven't given me due to 'timetabling issues'. Grrr. I seriously suspect it's as they knew I was pregnant (don't know if you remember I had a phone call from one of the ass. heads wanting to know all about why I was signed off work for the last few weeks fo school) and are just worried I'll be off alot. Have no way to prove this though and never will be able to, but it's funny how the only time a timetabling issue liek this comes us is when I'm just about to be off on maternity leave in a few months.

So, either I'll be short on my hours this term (which equates to about £150 a month which for someone with a baby on the way and moving house and getting lots of building work done on new place in the next few months is really worrying thought) or they'll dump some subject I know nothing about on me to teach every week (which I have actively told them regularly I won't do as the heads of departments are useless at giving decent lesson plans and I'm a perfectionist so end out redoing everything which takes so much time that it's not worth it for the money).

Just feel a bit fed up and let down by them. I love teaching and the kids are great....just a shame about some of the staff...and to think they wern't going to tell me this until I got back to school in september and think this was totally acceptable. argh, I feel REALLY stressed now. anyone else work somewhere where they work really hard at what they do and do they best they can but just get bogged down with crap from the powers that be or is it just me? it's sad as it makes me now not so bothered about doing a good job when I'm back.

rant over! maybe I'm just getting over emotional about it and they are being perfectly reasonable.....?

zerominuszero · 19/08/2010 15:51

supadupa we haven't bought anything yet because we know our family will give us lots of stuff, especially as my bday, xmas and DH's bday all come just before the baby's due, but the problem is that we don't know what they'll give us and what they won't. Not a big problem, of course...

...but it's going to be difficult holding off buying stuff for much longer...

sweetnitanitro · 19/08/2010 15:58

I haven't bought anything yet either. I made a real effort to steer clear of obviously gender specific stuff with DD so I should be OK either way. I was given some pink stuff but I have no qualms about dressing a boy in pink pyjamas if that's what is clean Grin

I really could do with some new maternity clothes though, I has an October baby last time so most of my maternity stuff is floaty summer tops which will be no good at all this time around!

Who is going to find out the sex of the baby at their 20 week scan? We're not going to, we like arguing surprises.

angels1 · 19/08/2010 16:03

We haven't brought anything yet btw. Hoping to beg borrow and steal (well, beg and borrow) and much as we can first and see what needs getting. My Mum has offered me a 30 year old rusty pram.....not sure we'll be taking up that offer if we can get away with it Wink

DH and I decided we will defo find out the sex. Thank goodness he agrees with me on that one! I have I think decided on a lovely lovely girls name that I want to use that DH hasn't said no to (so looking good) so knowing my luck it will now be a boy! I'm no good at getting excited over boys names...just girls names.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/08/2010 16:11

Oh, we are (if he/she is cooperating). I am not good with suspense...

sweetnitanitro · 19/08/2010 16:25

angels, we're having the opposite problem! We've got a lovely boys name that we picked quite early on but we're struggling with girls names.

I'm terrible, I'm dying to know what everyone else is having but I don't want to find out myself Grin

Bensmum76 · 19/08/2010 16:26

Hi all
We won't be finding out the sex this time. We paid for a 3d scan with our ds which was amazing and found out the sex then but dh really doesn't want to know. I'm not a fan of surprises but really don't have a preference.
Just found out after my sister had her scan this week that we're both due on 20th February!! What a strange coincidence!!
I haven't bought anything yet as we seem to have most things and have felt too poorly until this last week. Will probably wait until 6 months then go wild!

moonminmama · 19/08/2010 16:34

I am definately going to find out what we are having. We have all DS stuff so will either be washing and airing all that or bagging it up and donating it to anyone that would like it Smile

I have just started a thread asking for ideas for a 'prebaby' shopping list. I am trying to stock up before the baby is born whilst I am still on full pay. I.E formula, bibs, bottles etc

I have had a sit down and looked at how long I can take off work. I am having to go back the half term before we break up for the summer. I am gutted! I am going to have to leave my new LO for 7 weeks with DH/MIL/my mum. I am really bothered by it. TBH I am having problems already getting my head around a few things. So trying not to think about them too much for now as there is very little I can do about it Sad

Welcome to the board newbies Smile

zerominuszero · 19/08/2010 16:54

We're not sure whether to find out the sex or not. DH is quite keen but I'm easy either way. Oddly, our parents both think we're crazy for even considering finding out the sex. They all seem to think it's such a nice surprise... which it is, of course, but that doesn't make people who want to find out evil! Worrying, as if they care that much about finding out the sex, what are they going to think about our discipline techniques, choice of school and everything else they don't agree with?

Name-wise, we've got a good girls name but are struggling with boys names. In fact, it would be good to have a girl first just so we don't have to think of a boy's name Confused

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/08/2010 17:05

That was one reason we found out first time round we were having terrible trouble agreeing on boys' names and thought if we were having a girl we could just forget about them. Of course, we were having a boy so spent the next few months arguing-- discussing...

MizK · 19/08/2010 18:07

Hi all, glad to see lots of happy news re scans on thread and sorry for everybody who has had bad news this time.

I'm starting to think about baby names non stop now, am convinced that I must be having a boy as I seem to be poring over the boys names lists way more than the girls ones! Has anybody else got a gut feeling over the sex of their baby? I won't be finding out as DP is adamant that he doesn't want to (spoilsport....!).
Am also mildly panicked after reading P & B magazine today and realising that everything that I liked in terms of cots, prams etc costs about a million pounds, as I had my last baby nearly 8 years ago I think I'd forgotten how ruinously expensive this baby business can b.....

tadjennyp · 19/08/2010 18:10

I'd quite like to find out this time round as I already have one of each and I'd like to sort out their clothes. On the down side, dh is going away with work next week just the day after the in-laws leave so I think my two will be hard-going. He's going to near New York, too but I think it would be too expensive for us all to go at short notice and probably a little difficult for us to get into the city. I'd be crazy to take a 4 and 2 year old into New York on my own, wouldn't I? Grin

suzym1984 · 19/08/2010 19:54

OOh I really want to find out, but DH is being a real stickler and has put his foot down! I think I would prefer a surprse really tho!

As for buying things......I have bought a few baby grows and socks etc. Also nappies (to get my free change bag) and I bought a baby monitor and room thermometer in the asda baby and toddler event! Wonder if I am getting carried away?!

Got my 16 week appt on Tuesday, so will be a reflief to get the final blood test results!

MizK I know what u mean about the price of the big things, nursery furniture, prams etc...makes me nervous!

suzym1984 · 19/08/2010 19:56

Oh, and I have also bought 2 pairs of maternity jeans, some maternity work trousers and some new tops for work in September too! Maybe I have a spending problem,........

linz17xxx · 19/08/2010 20:07

We are goin to find out. My scan is a few days before my birthday in september so it will be a lovely present. I haven't bought anything except maternity clothes yet. Got quite a bump on me, especially on a night! We have a few possible girls names but can only agree on one boy's name at the minute. My partner is convinced our baby is a boy as it had huge feet on the scan ha ha

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 19/08/2010 20:10

oooh what bloods are you having at 16 weeks?

also - please can everyone suggest a lovely boys name - we're struggling!!

sweetnitanitro · 19/08/2010 20:25

Remember, my DH vetoed Marcus and Alastair (no accounting for taste!) which were my favourites, but then suggested something I'd never even thought of which we both love. What sort of names do you like?

My DH is also convinced we're having a boy but I have no strong feelings either way.

linz17xxx · 19/08/2010 20:39

We have picked ethan james for a boy and for girls on our short list are charlotte grace, madeline, willow or verity. Any preferences?

angels1 · 19/08/2010 20:50

I like madeline linz - great name, that's on my short list. My current top choice for girls is tilly (short for matilda) and quite like nell.

moonminmama · 19/08/2010 20:56

We have 3 boys names already picked out- Joel, sam & Ben (we already have a Tom) but we are struggling for a girl. We quite like Isabelle (izzy) but fear it's becoming very popular.

I love Charlotte and grace btw

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/08/2010 20:59

DS has a good friend named Ethan; DD calls him Eefee which is very cute. Your girls' names (and everyone else's names) are all great IMO.

supadupa900 · 19/08/2010 21:28

Moominmama where is your pre-baby shopping thread? I'm not very good with this whole forum thing, and can't find anything!

linz17xxx · 19/08/2010 21:29

I already have a dd called isabel and luckily its not too common where we live so there is only 1 at her dancing class but it is spelt differently. I like tilly its pretty. I like daisy and Layla but my partner doesn't :( I also love lucas, louca and Jayden for boys but my partner doesn't :(
