Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

Morning ladies,

Am back from a lovely weekend in Edinburgh during which I succumbed to maternity trousers - I got a pair of lovely jeans from Next and some boring black trousers from M&S. Weirdly, I think my 'bump' (such as it is) has got bigger since then, but I think it's more that I'm not trying to squish it into normal clothes anymore. Had a little proud content moment in changing rooms looking at newly round tummy and DH was really lovely and looked like he was going to cry when he saw me.

I think I'm starting to feel generally better too, not quite as tired (although also more used to pacing myself I think), and starting to feel a bit more like I look in the mirror and see nice things rather than the grey tired me I have been seeing for a couple of months.

Can't wait until I can start feeling flutterings...

D

Deliaskis · 16/08/2010 09:09

I mean DH was going to cry in a nice 'look at my lovely pregnant wife' way, not in a 'OMG my wife is huuuuggggge way'!

americanexpat · 16/08/2010 10:02

I finally bought a pair of maternity jeans and have two more coming from eBay and I'm feeling properly pregnant now. DH took a photo on Saturday and I think I look absolutely massive - I made him take another photo this morning and I look much smaller. I'm attributing it to being small breasted so my bump looks comparatively big (that's what I'm telling myself anyway).

Deliaskis · 16/08/2010 11:27

americanexpat mine always looks bigger later in the day and not so much like a 'bump' first thing in the morning.

And I don't have the small breat thing going on!

I honestly think though that I look like more than 3 months. When strangers ask me when I'm due I feel like I want to say December or something so they don't think I'm just fat.

D

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 16/08/2010 11:35

I've already been asked whether I'm sure it's not twins!

I think I may start saying "Oh, not until after Christmas" when strangers ask when I'm due. It's technically accurate and will stave off some of the twin remarks.

ElleB1980 · 16/08/2010 12:01

I can totally empathise with the bump bigger at night thing...although I've come to work today and people can't stop commenting on how pregnant I'm looking!
I've bought maternity work trousers and some jeans (both TopShop if anyone cares!) in the last week. I honestly cannot imagine ever wearing normal jeans again. Hidden elastic in the pockets is totally the way forward.

geekygiraffe · 16/08/2010 12:10

My bump is more obvious in the evenings too. Loving my topshop maternity jeans, and will wear them forever (you can eat as much pizza as you like, and they just stretch...).
I'm seeing the midwife on Weds for my first routine check-up after booking in. What happens? I think it's just wee, weight and BP, but will they listen for the baby's heartbeat too? Really hope so.

PDR · 16/08/2010 12:40

Hello everyone!

Been away for a few days in London... Sooo sorry to hear people's bad news - I am thinking of you both.

Welcome back Millie :) Congratulations!

I have my first Obstetrician appointment this afternoon :) Not sure if they will scan me as the letter says full bladder etc but then again I have had lots of scans so far so probably no need. Still excited I might get a sneak peek of my little bean again though!!!!

Currently eating pitta bread and homous... yum yum yum (hope its ok in pregnancy - too late if its not!!!!)

CheeseChomper · 16/08/2010 13:26

Afternoon all! Sorry, been away for a while as been so busy!

Touch wood everything is okay with me and the little one- now exactly 16 weeks and can't wait for my next midwife appointment on Thursday, so hopefully can hear the heartbeat again. Feeling a little freaked out as i'm not tired or sick anymore, and can't really feel anything yet, have to keep reminding myself that something is in there! Thought last week whilst lying down that on two occasions I might have felt baby move- got a slight 'bubbling' sensation that other people have talked about on threads, but it might just have been wind! Grin

DP is taking me shopping for maternity clothes this week as my usual wardrobe is now rapidly becoming defunct. Going to hit TopShop, but does anyone know where else might do some slightly cheaper, fashionable maternity clothes? I've had a look in our local H&M, and their maternity section is a bit rubbish where we are...

Angels1- Is it you that lives near Bromley? I'm sure there were two people who lived quite near me, and one had mentioned meeting up, but I wasn't sure who! Have tried to search threads but can't find out, didn't want anyone to think I was being rude in not responding... If it wasn't you, please ignore!

grigglepuff · 16/08/2010 13:45

CheeseChomper I found a pair of skinny legged maternity jeans in mothercare on sale for £15 (down from £25) they might not be to everyone's taste but they look like my normal jeans so I'm very pleased with them. They have a big band of elastic all the way around the top though. Not sure if it's a local sale or nationwide :)

angels1 · 16/08/2010 14:08

Yes cheesechomper I am near Bromley...and remeber someone else was too that suggested meeting up....I forget who though Hmm . Was it grannyapple ? On the clothes front, I'm sure a friedn said she went to primark and got stuff that wasn't actually maternity, but was loose in the tummy/very stretchy and fitted her for a few months before it got to the massive stage. They're really cheap so you might be able to pick up some bits. They may ahve a maternity section too.....I'm not sure. How about new look??

applecharlotte · 16/08/2010 14:26

cheesechomper GAP is brilliant for maternity clothes. I got a fab pair of maternity jeans for £30. Also the tops in the non maternity section are great for pregnant ladies who are in that inbetween stage ie put on weight but not got a prominent bump.

I went into to Topshop and they have some LOVELY dresses but they are pricey - £38 ish I think. I'm going to treat myself when my bump shows up!

ElleB1980 · 16/08/2010 14:58

Topshop was a bit pricier than I'd hoped tbh, but the fit was perfect. I also tried H&M, Dorothy Perkins and New Look but I found their sizes were all coming up huge on me. Topshop usually comes up small but seems to have hit the spot with the maternity range.
I've only bought trousers so far, and one dress for work, and have just been buying tops from the normal ranges - there're so many tunic styles and longer length t-shirts around you can find stuff to fit any budget.

tadjennyp · 16/08/2010 17:00

I went round the local second-hand stores here as I don't know what the decent maternity brands are in the US. I managed to pick up a pair of jeans, trousers, long skirt and three tops for just over $20 though! This is definitely my last and I don't want to spend too much money on clothes I will only wear for the next 6-8 months. I did spend nearly $60 on bras from Motherhood and appear to have gone up to a 36C already! lol.

wigglesrock · 16/08/2010 17:20

I got some great tops and jumpery type things in New Look, bit big for me at minute but so comfy and will save me running around in a few weeks. Funny enough I was always ok in normal trousers/jeans just maybe a size bigger and I am of a plumpy persuasion normally. Although I am already having issues with certain shoes, my left foot swells quite early in pregnancy and creates all sorts of shoe problems!!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 16/08/2010 17:33

I've actually gone the other way this time -- have bought some nice Isabella Oliver stuff in their 50% off sale and some more on eBay and should be able to sell it on afterwards for roughly what I paid for it, so it will end up costing me less than the cheap stuff I bought for my other pregnancies that didn't last. This is the theory, anyway...

tadjennyp · 16/08/2010 17:39

Sounds lovely Prof but we don't go out much without the kids over here and I don't work, bar giving the odd German lesson so haven't spent much on clothes at all over the last 2 years! Coupled with the fact that I lost nearly 2 stone last year means I struggle to work out my US size. I do have some clothes that I wore when I was larger that I'm hoping will see me through the next couple of months or so, when the weather turns decidedly colder.

milliemoocow · 16/08/2010 17:45

If any of you are on a tight budget like me you could try eBay for maternity clothes I got few bits of there for work and knocking around in then got my main maternity clothes from newlook maternity in the sale, I have to confess tho that all time fav are my jeans off eBay that were originally from next they are soooo comfy lol!!!

Anyway off to work now although I'm so tired would rather b goin t bed lol (yawns)

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 16/08/2010 17:49

I don't (well, I do work, but almost exclusively from home where I can do it in my pyjamas if I want) and haven't either but had started to lose weight and buy a few nicer (not particularly expensive, just not jeans and T-shirt) things before getting pregnant so have carried that over a bit and trying to look a little bit more put together than I have since DS was born. And more of them are dresses this time, because I get huge towards the end and even in big maternity tops the front rides up and I get a strip of belly exposed, which is not nice in the middle of winter. This time I am prepared to avoid frostbite of the navel...

supadupa900 · 16/08/2010 18:42

Hello lovely ladies, please can I join in? Had my scan today, and all AOK- 12 wks, 4days and due 24/02/11. This is my first baby, so have been using the site for general advise, and have only just stumbled upon this group.

wigglesrock · 16/08/2010 19:01

tadjennyp have you looked at Old Navy, my brother-in-law sends me over bits and pieces for my dds and was nosying on website for next order and noticed their maternity section. Much cheaper than over here- am currently coveting some lounge pants!! Though think I might be pushing my luck asking him to browse in the maternity section Grin

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 16/08/2010 19:14

Welcome supa!

I seem to have sprung a bump this weekend. It seems to have appeared from nowhere - even my skin is starting to feel stretched Confused

Have been feeling movements today too - lots of them, I'm guessing buba must have had a growth spurt or something!

Re maternity clothes, I bought jeans last time round from ebay, all were in good nick and less than a tenner a piece, I'm guessing they'll still be too big as I'm about a stone lighter now than I was, but will fit me a bit further down the line. I also bought an Isabella Oliver wrap dress from ebay and sold it for more than I bought it for. It never looked particularly nice on me either which was a shame as it looked gorgeous on the pregnant model on their website (what a surprise...)Grin

I'm feeling pretty good today, no sickness and loads of energy during the day. I've flaked out now but a slab of chocolate cheesecake may perk me up a bit!

moonminmama · 16/08/2010 20:30

hello all, I too have been away for a while, busy 'sorting' stuff at home.

Im glad to hear people are feeling better.I too have had to go out and buy a pair of maternity jeans. This is my 2nd little one and I am huuuuge compared to the same time in my last pregnancy.

I have just commented on another thread how i was stibgy during my last pregnancy and really begrudged spending much on maternity clothes. But as a result I always felt fat, frumoy and generally unattractive, so have promised myself that I am not going to do it this time. I have bought a lovely maxi dress which will stretch over my bump. I have always been a jeans and tshirt person, so when I wore it at the weekend felt a little self conscious. I did however get lots of compliments, which was nice.

My issue is work clothes. I am having to work until late January (although I am doubting whether I will be physically able to)so need some nice maternity clothes I can wear for teaching.

As for the meet up idea, I think it is a great one. I would love to get involved. I am in Warrington. Anyone clothes that would fancy it?

Oh and welcome Supa Smile

smallblackflowers · 16/08/2010 20:40

moonminmama I'm in the North West too (south Lancs) and would like to be involved in a meet up Smile
