Yo December 2010 ladies, here we go - the mid-point of our pregnancies...and beyond!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CherylAnnTweedy · 18/07/2010 18:24

I'm now fed, counted money (£68.80 - £7 pitch fee) so I'm pretty impressed with that. Bath time for boys in a mo, early night for both, then ebay time for me!

MrsSnapLegs - Still no house allocation?

I saved everything from ds1 so didn't need to buy a thing when i had ds2, but as he was my last as everything was no longer needed it was sold, so we're starting again with this one. Part of me wants to get mostly 2nd hand bits, but the other part of me wants brand new as it's mine & DP's 1st. I think we'll probably get a mixture tbh. We've a few bits that have been given to us by SILs friend, but still loads to get. We're going to see what we can get from NCT sales and go from there I think.

mumatron sounds horrible, poor you. I'm also getting a stabbing/stitch type pain on my lower right. I have my scan tomorrow so I'm going to get them to have a look, also seeing as the sonographers are mw's they should be able to tell me what it is. It's def not baby for me as all movement I'm feeling is on the left. My pain is particularly at its worst when I put weight on my right side.

93pjb - I'm taking my boys to my 4d scan, but they are a bit older. There were people when I went for my 12wk scan who had a LO in a pushchair, I'm sure lots take younger LOs with them.

We've got a definite (I think) girls name. Although ds1 put a dampener on it unintentionally with the exact worry we'd had. We both really like Katie, asked his opinion and he said (with nose turned up) "Ew not Katie, there's a girl in my class called Katie Price". GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Boy name we are still stuck with. Plus DP's surname narrows a few names down as it makes words or brand names.

GGG - not getting them as much now, but I was getting regular nosebleeds. It's a perfectly normal, albeit annoying pg symptom. They and the bleeding when I blow my nose has stopped since using Flixonase nasal spray for my hayfever. Also the pregnancy rhinitis has stopped with the spray, so DP is very thankful for that!

DF - a bit of dust and grime do children the world of good. (I'm not for any minute suggesting your house is like that). If children are too clean they have no way of building up an immune system. It seems (with friends dc's) the cleaner the child the more often they pick up bugs. Mine aren't exactly filthy, but they're healthy and I'm pretty lax with cleaning them etc.

CherylAnnTweedy · 19/07/2010 09:00

Scan this afternoon, so keeping busy all day, it's good too as this is all new to me as well as DP as I've never had a detailed scan before.

I have a quick question, another sex one, those of you who are still interested and not too tired, do you find it easier to orgasm? I'd never orgasmed until a couple of years ago (and that was battery powered!), DP is the only person to ever manage it, and only a few times, until now and it's every time & really easy! Needless to say, I am trying to get as much sex as I can.

mumatron · 19/07/2010 09:34

cheryl i can't stand being touched let alone sex. good luck with the scan. are you going to find out the sex?

dp was reading up on being 18 weeks pg last night and wanted to know why i wasn't blooming as it said i should be! what a cheek! seriously though is it a myth? i still feel like crap and have bad skin only perk is the bigger boobs and long nails.

have some time off work so taking myself and the dc into town for some shopping and a trip to the museum.

Chooster · 19/07/2010 09:40

I'm alos getting a few nose bleeds... NOthing too bad and it normally stops fairly quickly but its annoying if it happens when I egt up at night as it I get even more work up and then truggle to get back to sleep!

On the cleaning side of things - I totally agree that its not a good idea to become troo obsessed with having a sparkling house / child! My MIL is like that and as a result DH has tendenacies to be overly meticulous. We had a slightly heated conversation at the zoo when he kept getting out the wipes to clean the boys hands as soon as they touched anything. I think boys need to get a little mucky and I dont want our twto to be overly anxious about things.

Pleased to hear no sickness yesterday mumatron! Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of it.

Cheryl - Good luck with the scan today. I've also looked into a 4d scan (just a cheaper one) as DS1 who is 6 is really keen to see the baby and keeps asking if he can come to a scan. I wont have any more NHS ones so I'll have to pay for it but I think it'll be a nice special thing for my DS to see and keep up his excitement! I think DS2 though is too young at just turned 3 and I reckon he'll just be disruptive. I'm not sure I'd have taken my kids to a anomoly scan because of its more serious nature but I think a paid-for private scan should be good.

Right better get on do some work...

Chooster · 19/07/2010 09:42

Oops, littered with spelling errors - typing too quick and too tired! Was out last night and didn't get into bed until midnight which is far too late for me these days!

notso · 19/07/2010 09:57

Good Morning,
Enjoyed a nice child-free, DH-free lie in this morning, it's nice but strange to think I don't have to go to work any more. Going to blitz the house, then having my eyebrows waxed, hopefully the weather will stay dry and the DC will be away with PIL until Weds night.

Is Blooming Marvellous closing down then? My local one shut ages ago, I bought some lovely thing for DD/DS from there so will be sad if it shuts.

Mumatron hope the sickness stays away, poor you. I hve been sick free for 3 weeks now but with DD itstarted up again in the 3rd trimester though I didn't feel ill with it, just ate then was sick and carried on.

Dueling I know my Mum and Dad think I am a lazy mare! I really struggle with the housework, I manage to keep my living room tidy always but everywhere else is a tip. I am going to have to follow fly lady or similar as I know things will get worse now I'm out of work. I think having a baby around does make you a bit cleaner though, I recall the embarrasment of DD's 1st birthday and her favourite 'toy' being a giant dust bunny!

GGG Names are proving a nightmare here too, there isn't one name the four of us agree on!

MrsSL I still haven't regained my cooking mojo, my taste has changed completely, hope I get it back when the baby comes.

93pjb not taking my two to the scan, I get too worried that something will be wrong. My friend on the otherhand due in Sept, has taken hers aged 5 and just 2 to everything.

Cheryl All I can say is I'm horny, horny, horny, horny! I was like this with DD and I am convinced it's why she arrived on time. Thankfully DH is always pleased to obligeGood luck with the scan, can't wait for mine in 16 days.

notso · 19/07/2010 10:03

Chooster you little stop-out! I can't do late night now either.

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2010 10:45

chooster truggle was my favourite! It should be a word if it isn't already!

Hope you have a great scan cheryl - what are you going to spend your carboot money on

mumatron enjoy the shopping and hope you feel better soon.

I need to pee all the time and then not much comes out! I think it must be the size of the baby and it sitting on my bladder!

SlightlyTired · 19/07/2010 11:17

Hi all. Had my scan on Friday - we're having a girl and all looks fine!! My mum came with us to the scan, so she looked after DD while they did all the measurements and checked that everything was well, then they both came in for show and tell. It was wonderful. DD, who is 3, asked a lot of questions on the way home, like what happens if our baby dies? What happens if we don't look after her? Is she happy? (She couldn't believe that the baby could be happy when it was dark in there!)

Chooster · 19/07/2010 12:38

Ah, so lovely slightlytired! Your DD sounds very cute, and great to have that mix of her in the scan for the end bit. My DS1 is desperate the feel the baby kick but with my placenta right bang at the front I dont think he'll feel it for a while. He was playing up a little bit yesterday so I asked him if the new baby was making him anxious in any way and bless him he didn't even understand why he would feel anything other than happy about the new baby... Thankfully I dont think I'll have any jealousy concerns with him, mind you he was an angel when DS2 was born so should be fine. DS2 however... Mmmm, he could be another story.

Deulling - I think truggle is a great word too!!! . Not so sure about some of the other spelling errors though

WhatWillSantaBring · 19/07/2010 12:49

Oh slightly that's so sweet - DD is obviously already worried about her little sister! How did you answer the dark question?

Cheryl hope the scan went well. I remember reading something about increased blood flow down there causing greater enjoyment for us ladies - I want to make the most of these few months before I get too hippopotamous (sp?) like. And slightly dreading the decline into once a year which a lot of parents seem to tell you is all you have to look forward too AC.

Had an extra scan this morning - ostensibly to measure cervical length (biopsy a few years ago) but they also did check the baby briefly for heartbeat and general well-being. All looked good and bump was a lot more active than last time. Although I don't want to find out the sex, I still wanted to know, if that makes sense - though nothing showed up on the scan. I don't know how I'll contain myself at the anomly scan!

Well done to cheryl for thinking through the full implications of a name - unlike the foolish Mr and Mrs Peacock who called their DS "Drew". And GGG, I've never met another girl called GreenGeekGirl so I don't think your name is that common

I'm with most of you on the cleanliness issue. I'm all for tidy and clean, but not obsessively so, and I look at my mum's slightly ropey hygiene practises and the fact that I have a cast iron constitution for proof that cleanliness does not necessarily equal godliness!

japhrimel · 19/07/2010 13:09

CherylAnnTweedy - I wish! I'm horny a lot but am finding it takes longer for me to orgasm, so as sex positions are tricky (especially with the SPD) and I'm always knackered it seems like such hard work!

Strix · 19/07/2010 13:24

Hi everyone. Just marking my place.

PJen · 19/07/2010 13:40

The closer the birth date comes - and it is still 4 months away - the more petrified I am! I am scared of giving birth! How can a baby come out of you-know-what and I rip when awake and bleed and go through all that? If it was anything else but giving birth, people would not find it normal. It is as if they cut your feet open while you are awake to do a surgery. It's barbaric. I can't do it. I am petrified. That is the reason why I didn't get pregnant for 36 years... gosh what did I do to myself? Please tell me that MW/consultant will accept giving me a C-section. I don't care about the negatives. I absolutely can not get ripped when awake and while having a choice... How is this not against humanity to sit there and watch? How can I sit in a birthing pool with open wounds while poos and amniatic fluid is in the same water? Okay I need a surgery room, anesthesia and a c-section. How can I get it plllleaaaaasssse...

PJen · 19/07/2010 13:42

sorry for the rant... the initial "OMG I am pregnant" days are gone and now the reality is kicking in..... and I am petrified! Absolutely horrified...

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2010 13:51

Yay for a girl SlightlyTired

Stop scaring me pJen I have tried not to think about it! he he.

GreenGeekGirl · 19/07/2010 13:58

PJen Oh you poor thing, it is a bit scary isn't it. I didn't realise until I spoke to a friend who has just had her first that not everyone tears! I just assumed that was a given but apparently not. A C-section may well be less .. um ... traumatic at the time but I undertand it's more painful afters and takes much longer to heal. I'm not sure it's the easy option exactly. Also, not all women have horrible birth experiences at all. Some really do enjoy it (which seems utterly bizarre) and by all accounts the contraction are far worse than the actual delivery, by which point you're really focussed on getting the damn thing out! Have you thought about self-hypnosis classes?

GreenGeekGirl · 19/07/2010 14:07

Oooh I love ebay - just got a £45 Mamas and Papas travel cot for £1.64!

mumatron · 19/07/2010 14:08

pjen im on dc3. if it was as bad as all that no one would have more than one. i have never needed a stitch before and my two weighed 7lb9 and 7lb2. im sure you will be fine.

is 18 weeks too early for braxton hicks? i've been getting them every few days, only once or twice but just a biit worried as never had them this early before.

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2010 14:21

I'm starting to get heart burn. Maybe that Fray Bentos pie was a bad idea

SlightlyTired · 19/07/2010 14:54

WWSB, I told her that baby is happy because she is cosy and has everything she needs in there. Not sure if she bought it...

PJen I've already had one and you're freaking me out! Seriously though, I had a couple of stitches and it wasn't that bad - the end bit of actually getting the baby out was very quick and actually pretty amazing - feeling it slither out of you is weird but wonderful. It's the contractions I'm not looking forward to repeating...

Am also getting Braxton Hicks mumatron...particularly when going for a brisk walk or when I'm tired and I get up quickly.

mumatron · 19/07/2010 15:01

df i want pie now.

Lavitabella · 19/07/2010 15:07

df - I'm getting a pie on the way home too now! what flavour? are we allowed Kidneys?

DuelingFanjo · 19/07/2010 15:13

do you know what - I didn't even think about the kidney content!

I also ate a little bit of blue cheese yesterday because I jut couldn't stop myself!

Lavitabella · 19/07/2010 15:19

I know we can't have liver but wasn't sure about kidneys.
I have had some blue cheese (quickly from fridge when DP wasn't looking) and the odd glass of wine, although now it gives me heartburn, so I'm not bothering anymore.

I have my 20 scan next week with a consultant at Queen Charlotte's, do I need to book a midwife appointment as well? what happens normally? do I need blood or anything taken?

I think I am getting SPD, seeing the Physio again tomorrow but feeling very sorry for myself today
