You are being such a considerate friend Spanishlady... Your friend is really lucky to have you to talk to. I lost my baby at exactly the same gestation as your friend (21 weeks) and although I was slightly younger at 35, time was still a consideration when it came to ttc again. We knew we ahd a 25% chance of the issue recurring as well so that played a factor. I think your flowers would have been very appreicated and it sounds like you are always going to be a thoughtful friend who remembers her daughter. Something that I've appreciated having is a keepsake that I always have on me. Its a necklace that my DH had made with silver pebbles each carrying the birthstone of my children, the one I lost included. Its just an acknowledgement for me that I have 3 children even if I only say 2 when people ask.

DF - Thats bad that the sonographer said those things and then advised against a private nuchal Shock. Hope your SIL gets the good news she deserves Smile.

26 weeks tomorrow here! Yikes!!! This is going WAY too fast.... But its all good... Not sure what I've gained but I know its over a stone. Not sure I want to look anymore

maxpower · 25/08/2010 21:22

Hi everyone, lots to catch up on I see. Been under loads of pressure at work as my manager's just gone on holiday without doing a report that's needed for tomorrow so I had to spend all Monday and Tuesday and some of this evening (even though I don't work on Weds) trying to write it. ON top of that, I've been inundated with requests from other staff for divisional reports which aren't ready either and are all needed urgently. I'll be tied up in training and meetings most of tomorrow and have just seen an email from my manager's manager saying we need an urgent meeting about some big assessment taking place in a few weeks time - but my manager has done all the work on it so I don't know anything about it.....argh! I wouldn't mind but I specifically asked my manager on Friday before I left if there was anything I needed to know or do etc etc and she said everything was done Angry

maxpower · 25/08/2010 21:24

choosetr what a lovely memento

ButtonAzure · 25/08/2010 21:48

Feeling the change in the weather.. think this is the first time I haven't minded the end of summer.. means christmas will be here quicker :)

My left leg decided not to work properly yesterday.. i'm sort of dragging it behind me a bit, as if i'm wearing a giant heavy shoe. At first yesterday morning I just thought the clutch on my car was sticky for some reason, until I got out and my leg sort of buckled. For some reason i'm finding it really funny; someone said baby could be affecting a nerve but haven't really heard of that before.
I'll check at AN appt nxt week just in case. Will be 25 week appt so should get my forms etc.

I really want to work as long as I can. My biggest issue is that its a 20 mile commute in the car which takes about 1/2 an hour but should be able to take work on and do shorter days if ness.

I think I'll aim to do reduced hours from last week Nov, then pt till 4th dec, bout 8 days before EDD. Will poss reconsider that if both legs stop working! Confused

notso · 26/08/2010 08:42

Hello everyone, and wow I have missed loads.

Had a great if knackering time at V Festival, have been drowning in washing and soggy tents since we got back!

Loving everyones lists of baby stuff, may compose mine but the ammount of nappies I have bought is embarrassing, My name is Notso and I'm an Ebayaholic Grin

Mil has announced that along with the hideous swing she will be buying a highchair, if it's going to be the same one she got for Bil then it too is as fugly and over engineered as they come, I was just going to get a second hand handysit from ebay when the baby can actually sit up.
I am going to tactfully suggest a different one, but don't want to appear ungrateful.

Dh is most annoyed because Dave and Sam Cameron have nicked his number one baby girls name, Florence, especially after we saw Florence + the machine at V, she was amazing. I am hoping now that Frances is in with a chance!

Lavitabellissima · 26/08/2010 09:06

We liked Florence too but is definitely off the list now Sad I think it was set to be in the top 50 this year anyway, now more likely the top ten.

Miffster · 26/08/2010 09:32

We are going to need a new thread soon!
Spanishlady, what a lovely thoughtful thing to do for your friend, wishing her all the best.

maxpower Angry at your manager, for being rubbish. I have no nappies yet, i am waiting for some kind of sale somewhere, also no idea what size to get.

Still wobbling about whether to go for homebirth or midwife led birthing centre; the main problem I have is with the horrendous post-natal experience that is common to both hospitals. Also thinking about a postnatal doula to show me how to BF, that way I should be able to avoid hanging about in hospital, shouldn't I?

OnlyWantsOne I don't feel like I've seen my midwife much at all! Only 3 times plus 2 scans! But I've just booked my 4d scan so I'm cheating and seeing the baby more!

DuelingFanjo · 26/08/2010 10:30

notso I love Francis and the shortened Franny.

miffster I asked my DH husband last night what he thought about me switching to a home birth! Partly because of the recent thread here and partly because I am really scared of too much intervention. I think I will really have to research it though.

spanishLady I think that sums me up. I am the kind of person who feels quite capable except for when I am under instruction and then I just act all silly and like I don't know what I am doing. So I am worried that while I am absolutely capable of looking after a baby I will probably defer to other people's advice far too much if I start having a confidence crisis. I have quite strong ideas about what I want to do and then a big fear that I will let others talk me round if they get the chance!

Also the Yummy mummy thing - I don't think I will ever be some kind of earth mother type but I do want to do things the best way I can and do all the baby wearing type stuff but I am not an out and out hippy either Grin I tell my mum about how I want to parent and what I don't want to do and she sits and smiles at me in a knowing way so I am sure I will have a few surprises along the way where I do things I never thought I would.

One of my friends is probably outwardly a bit of a yummy mummy, three beautiful kids, a full time job, beautiful home and yet she is really as mad as a bag of frogs. Another has really embraced baby wearing, co-sleeping etc etc. I am sure I will get plenty of advice but a little bit of me just wants to find my own way and not get lost in being a mummy. Grin

DuelingFanjo · 26/08/2010 10:31

I mean frances of course!

heidipi · 26/08/2010 10:48

Hello everyone - I think I've been having some BH and wanted to compare notes.

It's just happened in the last couple of days - feels like a sort of clench across my bump, not at all painful or crampy, just kind of a pull, different to the usual baby moving feeling. Does that sound like BH? I found myself hunching a bit when I stood up cos I felt so tight around the middle.

The sprog is still wriggling around in there as normal so whatever it is I'm sure it's fine, I'm just a complete novice at this!

Trying to decide where to go for a week's hol with DP at the end of Sept. Thinking France or Cornwall/Devon - I'll be 7 months by then so think I'll mainly want to lie around reading books rather than anything too energetic. actually that has been true of every hol I've ever been on but at least this time I've got an excuse!

notso · 26/08/2010 11:08

Lavita two Prime Ministers have nicked my names now, loved Leo but the Blairs had one two days before DD was born.

Miffster sorry you are undecided and have had bad experience of hospital. Hope you have a positive one this time whatever you decide.

Laurenamium not seen M/W much either, but seeing the consultant plenty to make up for it!

DF I also love Francis but DH has has over-ruled it for a boy choice, he appears to be warming to Frances though.
You sound similar to me in parenting styles.
I have found it easier to stick to my guns over certain things second time round as I learned to trust my instincts over 'advice', so this third one should be perfectGrin

heidipi That does sound like BH to me, they are a bit odd at first but you get used to them. I would love a nice relaxing holiday, instead I am going to be riding a bike around Centreparcs with DH and DC's!!

Back from my mothers in Devon - will get on later to do a full read but got to start packing for camping as we are away tomorrow for a couple of days - just thought I would let you all know I was still alive Grin

heidipi · 26/08/2010 12:17

Thanks Notso I thought as much, will look forward to another 3 months of this then!

btw Frances seems to be getting popular again! It's been our top girls name for a while but now I'm liking Evelyn too. Am still mainly convinced it's a boy though.

Oh god I haven't even got a list yet, must get to work...

SpanishLady · 26/08/2010 12:34

thanks all - I havent heard back from my friend so hope she got through yesterday as well as can be expected.

The momento is a great idea and I have found a silver bracelet you can have engraved so I thought I'd get that for her birthday and have her baby's name put on it.

My 1 year old niece is called Florence - bet my sister is bemused the Camerons have it as well but tbh I wouldnt let something like that stop me using the name if I liked it enough.

We are trying the idea of playing the same song over and over to the bump and choose the Beatles 'Here comes the sun' - we played it last night and my DH placed his iphone on my belly and the baby tried to kick it off! After laughing we were perplexed it is was the weight of the iphone or the song he/she had the issue with!

I act rather nochantly for some reason about the baby to most people but in private I love him/her so much I am quite scared by it - right now is lovely - I dont feel unwell anymore but as he/she moves abit every day it does feel like we are in a private club of two!

Chooster · 26/08/2010 12:59

Wow notso - thats an impressive list of nappies Smile. I take it you're an old hand at using re-usables? I tried last time but gave up far too quick and reverted to disposables.

Heidi - thats exactly what my BH feel like, just a clench for a while - maybe 30 seconds then it dies away.

Gosh I've only seen my midwife once! Must call to make an appointment

japhrimel · 26/08/2010 13:01

Miffster - if it's your first, some hospitals insist on seeing a wet nappy or wet cottonwool from baby pee before discharging you - as well as insisting you have a pee first too. So knowing you have support at home doesn't necessarily mean you can get out of hospital straight away.

I think they're more funny about it when it's your first. A friend had her 2nd in February, went in at 6am and was home by lunchtime. She was very adamant that that was what she wanted to do if there were no complications but said they were fine about it once they knew it wasn't her first baby.

Afaik, there is no major advantage to going to a stand-alone MLU instead of staying at home, other than not having to sort out pool, etc yourself - and 1 disadvantage is that you can't guarantee a pool will be available at a MLU. Obviously if the MLU is attached to the main hospital, then transferring if needed would be easier.

We don't have a stand-alone MLU near us - the nearest is 25 minutes in the opposite direction to the hospital I'm booked in under! As the transfer is one of my big personal issues that's making me think home-birth, going to the MLU attached to the hospital doesn't sound great, but that's just me.

heidipi - sounds like what I've been assuming is BH too. Smile

DuelingFanjo · 26/08/2010 13:12

So who's going to start the new thread then? I don't feel confident enough to think of a good title Blush

I've been playing my bump the albums of Bob Dylan Grin

Am also nonchelant with other people but am starting to talk to my bump a lot more in private Blush

Lavitabellissima · 26/08/2010 13:19

I think Miffster should do the new thread honours, she is suitably witty Grin

Miffster · 26/08/2010 13:37

Here is the new thread!
