Evening ladies

What a nightmare day!! DS has had an ear infection for the last week (9th one this year) and has been giving me all sorts of grief. Everything from sleepless nights, fever, not eating, night wakings, god I could go on and on. He isn't usually this bad but this time the antibiotics don't seem to be working. Thankfully, I have finally got an appt with the ENT for next week (have been waiting since April) but get the feeling, from researching and speaking to other moms, that nothing is going to be sorted anytime soon. This has been the most frustrating part on motherhood for me. The minute baby has an ear infection, I will make sure she gets put back into my tummy!!! Sorry to bore you.

Chacha & BOB - Can't help laughing at the two of you. Take full advantage of having ME time and being able to do what you want when you want. I really miss be able to watch dvds all day with dh and chips and dip.

Tessa - Thanks for that. I am just hoping she was just having a bad day, after all there is alot to cover during a 10min appt. I will see what happens during the assessment and take it further if she won't do it. Just feel it would be a bit harsh to rule out a homebirth because of such trivial things (well, to me at least) especially as the chances of her being the mw on call when I'm in labour are very slim.

Nova - DH had a sympathy pregnancy last time which never seemed to end. He definitely has the mood swings this time round. but I didn't. Actually, think it is more to do with 23 weeks of nicotine withdrawal.

Rodeo - Have a great holiday.

Excuse me while I stuff my face with strawberries, meringue and strawberry cream with pink champagne.

babyonboard · 25/08/2005 21:28

my god...send some of that dessert over here cads!
I know what you mean about ear infections..my litle brother had so many of them when he was small..they are so painful too, it's really sad whe na baby/child is ill..!
hope ds is better soon...for his sake and yours!
i am woried about how much time I spend at the computer these days..I barely do anthing else, with my spd and low blood pressure keeping me indoors..ah well...at least we have a comfy computer chair..hehe!

peepee · 25/08/2005 21:31

ChaCha,
Great to hear from you.......
It is really nice hearing from you guys over here on the november thread.
Hope you are all keeping well. You guys must be huge by now! Not long to go... How exciting. Do you all know what you are having? (genders) Do tell!
Anyway am a little tired tonight. It has been a bit of a stressful day. Thinking about whether this one is going to be ok.. I have always m/c around this time and in a way am dreading the scan on tuesday. DH says it will put my mind at rest and is sure it'll be OK. I wish i could be as sure as him.
Enough from me. It's time for bed.
Take care and hope to hear from you soon.

BYYYYYYYYYeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. X

ChaCha · 25/08/2005 21:58

BoB - I think we have officially taken over the board, LOL. Well, DH brought home a small bag of goodies: chocolate, chips & dips and a blackberry pie and custard. Had a good cry and cuddle and am feeling better now. Amazing isn't it? Just don't know what comes over me..

CADS - Hope your DS is alright. Here's me complaining of being restless and bored and there's you coping with pregnancy and an unwell toddler....feel like a spoiled brat! Well, as you said, making the most of it eh?

Right officially off the PC for the night. Am going to have to discipline myself.

Nighty night all x

Enthusia · 26/08/2005 08:06

Morning all

Had an eventful day yesterday!!! Went to Lakeside with DH, he was working at dealership there so I went for a day of shopping. Got there REALLY early, which we thought was great, just coming off roundabout, when I look out my window and think 'hey that articulated lorry isn't turning, and we are' Next thing I know we have been hit on my side of the car and are spinning round in circles in front of numerous other cars that are trying not to hit us!!!!! My DH was brill - must be all that training he has when he tries out new cars on tracks. Got car under control really quickly! Then went to sort out other guy who was from Belgium, he was sooooooo calm! My hero! I was a little shaken but thought I was fine - until we got to dealership where he works and then heart started pounding, apparently went white, bloodshot eyes, and felt like I was going to be sick! Had a cup of tea with heaps of sugar and one of the people said I seemed to be in shock - I kept thinking that if my DH had been a second slower the lorry would have smashed through my door. Anyway - after that trauma walked to Lakeside as wanted to take mind off it, then bubs started kicking furiously as if 'hey I'm still in here and I'm ok' so felt a lot better. Didn't go to hospital - didn't even occur to me that I should until I was half way to Lakeside!!!! Feel absolutely fine now.

Shopping was great, Ikea was manic and I gave up, hardly bought anything and am going to ASDA today as have heard they are one of the best places to go for everyday, good quality, good value baby stuff!!!!

Can't wait for the weekend and some time off with DH, he never used to get weekends of bank holidays so this will be great. Don't think we are going to do much though!!!!

Nova- yesteday I was in Lush (I am now addicted ChaCha) and the women couldn't belive I was 29 weeks, she thought I was quite early on. So I must look quite small, she did say it was a nice shape though mind you I had a bit of room to hide a baby anyway - I have very wide hips, used to have a relatively small waist if compared to hips - that has disappeard, but if you didn't know me before I guess you wouldn't realise!

Nova and ChaCha - I also make sure I look nice for DH, I like looking after him and dressing for him, it makes me feel great and him feel like a king, I don't think it is old fashioned. Haven't read the thread this was on yet, but thought I'd throw my two-penneth in!

Bubs has also changed movements now and has a definite routine, also kicks very hard. Woke DH up by kicking his back while I was cuddling him (this is the man who has slept through fire alarms and an army training raid) I on the other hand was still very much asleep!

Right, putting cot together today - going to Asda - cleaning some drawers just sold on ebay - tidying up and gernerally sorting!!! Mind you I will be on here every hour or so like you ChaCha - I just can't help having a peek at any new messages when I pass!

Wow what a long thread. WAKE UP anyone who has fallen asleep reading this

29 today hooray

CADS · 26/08/2005 09:06

Morning

God, enthusia. That sounds really scary. I am absolutely terrified of having a car accident. Unfortunately have lost a couple of relatives and friends in road accidents so have a bit of a phobia. Everytime we get on the motorway with ds in the car and feel a little panicky. Your dh was a real hero.

Thanks BOB and Chacha. I think ds is feeling better. Managed to get a full nights sleep last night so feeling a lot better. Have just dropped him at nursery till 12pm so have some free time. He only started going last week (2 mornings per week) so haven't yet registered that I can do anything I want or even do absolutely nothing.

BOB - Dessert too good. Too greedy to share. Get you dp down to M&S for the 'strawberry cream with pink champagne'. Absolutely, divine.!!

Chacha - You are NOT a spoiled brat. I felt the same way when I was on maternity leave. It isn't like we have loads on money and can keep going out and doing things like lunch, shopping sprees, hairdressers and spa days, because it all cost money. Believe me I know all about going from two incomes to one. To top it I was the main bread winner so it was extra pressure and stress for me. We have managed on one income (without too many sacrifices) for almost a year now. Your priorties change a lot. Has for having a toddler to cope with we all adapt. You wonder how I cope with one and I wonder how the others with 2 or more cope especially with work too. Enough babbling.

Your guys are making be feel really bad. Poor dh has been neglected ever since ds was born. Have to keep reminding myself to pay him some attention. It is really hard for us to get out on our own. Got nobody to babysit, unless we're in south africa. And if after ds has gone to bed we are both tired or doing our own things like watching tv, reading or on mumsnet!!! Keep thinking about using a babysitting service but am a bit wary. Has anyone used one?

Right 2hr55mins left. What shall I do next?

twinkle1 · 26/08/2005 09:42

OMG enthusia,
so glad u r ok,it must have been so scary.

looking forward to a weekend of diy must grout kitchen tiles.
well will go as im rambeling again
twinkle
27+1

ChaCha · 26/08/2005 10:04

OH ENTHUSIA! What a shock for you both! Am so glad all is well though, your DH was a star!

I made a trip to IKEA in Cardiff not long ago but didn't really make many purchases - store was v.busy and i just felt overwhelmed with all the different sections IYSWIM. Asda is definitely good value for money, my MIL swears by it. I've had a look at some of their stuff and a lot of it looks great at reasonable prices. Let me know what you get.

I'm trying my hardest to get on with the day, just can't get any 'get up and go'. I hate to admit this but i think i'm feeling a bit jealous of the fact that DH has such a busy schedule (I can't believe that I'M saying that!!!) I've noticed that he's taking on a lot more work at present and of course he will be feeling the burden of being the only one earning and has to. Anyway...glad i can come on here and chat about such things, feel better just to talk about it.
Can't win! Complained when i was commuting everyday and coming home knackered, complain when i stay at home...humph!

CADS - Hope DS is feeling a bit better. It's good to know that others have gone through this life changing transition from independence to SAHM. I cried ALL night last night and drove DH absolutely bonkers. Baby kicked and turned all night too and i was pretty exhausted. I'm definitely not depressed just ... getting used to new life i think.

Thanks for listening. Enthusia, keep logging in while you potter. I will be doing the same again today. Might try and start a list. xx

novadandypowder · 26/08/2005 10:08

Cyber {{{hugs}}} to Enthusia, glad you and belly bean are ok

I spent last night painting the bathroom. I REALLY hate painting, and it looks like it's going to need a second coat - boo. Have also discovered I've managed to paint my fringe white and it's not come out with washing, so it's going to be head scarf day today.

Off to mw appt. so i'll catch up with you later x

CADS · 26/08/2005 10:23

Nova - Did you get one of those bellybags. Would kill to be able to lay on my tummy. Have dreadful hip and backache. Will try sweet talking dh into it over the weekend. Might have a chance this time as I have just discovered he is getting a season ticket for the football which I think cost a few quid.

Chacha - It is a major life just. It will take a while to adapt so don't worry about the tearful moments. I definitely found my emotions were all over the place last time. This time it has been fine because at least I have some idea of what i am getting myself into.

Twinkle - Loving DIY at the moment too. Did the kitchen tiles yesterday. Thinking of regrouting bathroom floors soon.

Right off the the chiropractor

Enthusia · 26/08/2005 10:56

Thanks for the messages!

Right have tidied the house and cleaned the drawers ready for collection, excellent!!!!!

I know what you mean about adjusting ChaCha I am very happy that I seem to have so much to do to keep me occupied, the summer holidays have flown by, but I do feel a little weird about money. It is not the fact that I am not earning perse, it is that we have less coming in. My DH and I have lived off each other for years, and up until this year I was the main breadwinner as I earnt more while at uni and in my first years teaching, but when we came back from Thailand Dh took over and we were able to afford a lot more so our standard of living rose, now I am looking at ways of cutting back again and it seems scary. Especially as the house we are in at the mo costs us a fortune in mortagage repayments, heating etc and we have had NO viewings yet, so looks like we might be here for a bit longer than we originally hoped!

Oh well, I am sure it will all sort itself out, it always has before.

I love painting Nova - wanted to paint nursery but the old wallpaper (we decided not to remove) is that patterned stuff and was soooooo hard to roller over, kept getting pains, DH had to do it.

BEKsmum · 26/08/2005 11:18

Morning girls, Enthusia glad you and bump are ok after yesterdays ordeal. Well done for dealing with it all so calmly but i'd mention it to your mw next time you see her just to be on the safe side and obviously if baby goes very quiet then give her a call for reassurance.

Cads hope your little one is feeling better today - do you think they'll ffer you gromits at your appointment?

Bob & Chacha don't worry about being bored and restless it won't last I assure you. I didn't really have time to get used to maternity leave as I worked up to 4 weeks before Ben was born, but was taken into hospital the evening before I was due to leave work and had Ben on the following Friday, that week was spent in hospital being bored to tears!!!

The money situation does sort itself out, I was very conscious that dh was having to give me money at first but I've got used to it now - the thing I find hardest is not being able to buy presents etc for dh just for the fun of it or at birthdays & xmas as I'm really buying him things out of his own money.

Right have got to go and buy a pressie for a 4 year old girl as Ben is off to a b'day party tomorrow at Xmas Tree Farm, which should be lovely - only thing is I haven't got a clue what to buy a little girl - I struggle enough with Ben's best friend and we've known her since she was 6 weeks old!

This afternoon is craft afternoon - the kids are decorating plant pots and then planting little plants in them - should be fun but also very messy! Hope you all have a great bank holiday weekend, we've got nothing very exciting planned but I'm sure it will fly by anyway. Beks (28+5)

CADS · 26/08/2005 11:27

Thanks Beks. In my opinion, ds needs grommits but it doesn't look like they like to put them in for children under 3, ds is only 18mnths. I think we've a long hard battle ahead of us. There is no way I could possible have a second child with ear problems, is there? Surely, life isn't that cruel!!!

ChaCha · 26/08/2005 11:36

Hi Beks - Sounds like a fun afternoon, can i join in? I enjoyed tile painting with younger kids using glitter glue pens? Have you tried that too? It's lots of fun.

Enthusia - Well done on the drawers! I'm in much better spirits now, amazing rollercoaster of mood swings that i'm on at the moment. Have sorted a list of 'to do' and am working my way through that and then plan to put my feet up in the afternoon with a salad baguette and movie. Will push myself to visit a friend early evening and as DH will be out tonight will carry on with the list. Feeling much better!!!! Sometimes i think it's just good to get it off your chest IYSWIM.
Back to the list then ...

novadandypowder · 26/08/2005 13:21

Enthusia I will gladly swap you any task if you come and paint my house for me. It's not even that difficult - everything is white, I just find it really annoying having to tape up all the things you don't want to get paint on, and having to keep refilling the roller is a pain. And I always end up getting myself covered in paint, I don't know how I do it, I mean, my whole fringe?????

Cads, I did get a belly bag and it's lovely to be able to lay on my front, although it's a bit annoying that it doesn't extend as far as your feet so they kinda hang off the end. For me it's a relief as I find it uncomfortable sitting in the armchair as my lungs and stomach get all squished, and i've lost many an afternoon falling asleep on it. I've put a blanket over it which helps as it's made from a soft 'pleather' (i love that word) fabric. The only real problem I have is that my cats also love it and I''m constantly having to fight them for it. It's also supposed to be good from 30 wks as laying forwards gives the baby room to move if it's breech.

Had mw check up today and all is well with me and baby. They always ask if i'm doing any exercise and i feel really bad when i say no. I've been walking a lot, but i think the Portland just expect everyone to be going to pilates or yoga. Then she made a comment about me still being able to fit in my jeans, so i guess she was assuming i worked out? She said i was 'a good size' and that baby is head down, she tried to get me to feel the head but i couldn't work it out. There was a very rude man in the waiting area who didn't offer me his seat, so i made a point of standing right by him with bump in his face - he's in a maternity hospital FFS!!!

Right, off to do second coat in bathroom with hair firmly tied back beneath a head scarf

SharonTW1 · 26/08/2005 13:28

Hello ladies, wish I could chat more with you all the time - another 7 weeks !! By the time I've whizzed through the thread my lunch time is over.
Hope everyone's ok, a lady who works for me brought in a huge chocolate cake for me today because she missed my birthday, it's yummy ! Office been busy today - no wonder.
Well best get back to it x x

ChaCha · 26/08/2005 13:48

Sharon - Do you deliberately post messages when you have or are just about to eat something delicious? Chocolate cake - yummy!!

Nova - LOL at making your point - I would do exactly the same! So baby's head is down? I always thought babies lie across the way in the womb like it shows on the early scans. When do they start to move into vertical positions - am i thick or what??? Do i have the right to call you 'stripes' with the white on your fringe now? (think Gremlins)

Am getting through my list...but the list is actually getting longer. Might be a good idea to split the house into 2 sections and over several days.

novadandypowder · 26/08/2005 13:57

I agree chacha, whenever anyone mentions food I immediately want whatever they've mentioned (except your desire for sweetcorn as that is still one of the foods that makes me feel sick).

I'm guessing all my laying on the belly bag has encouraged junior to move into a good position??

I'm more badger I reckon . DH got all excited last time I got paint in my hair (yes, it's happened before) as he thought I was going grey. He was disappointed to find out it was paint, as he's going grey at a rate of knots which he's finding very disturbing.

CADS · 26/08/2005 14:11

Yipee!! DH has agreed to buying the belly bag. Am place my order NOW!

Mint chocolate, ooohhhh

babyonboard · 26/08/2005 16:36

Yey..not feeling so bored and restless today!
DP got his hands on a dvd of the whole final season of 'six feet under' so I have been happily watching that with my feet up and a pile of fruit and milkshakes..hoorah!

He's off out tonight for a leaving do (in croydon..poor boy!)so I will continue like that for a while..maybe pencil in a nice bath and a takeaway..hehe

I can't imagine where you are getting your energy from Nova..we should really be redecorating as we plan to sell or rent out our flat in the very near future but i just never can be bothered..these days I guess I just couldn't with my spd and fainting fits, but even before all that - still too lazy! hehe
Will have to get dp and friends on the job and bribe them with a crate of beeer..

I wish I had kids to do crafts with..it's not as fun on your own!

Take care..will probably be posting again soon today..hehe

babyonboard · 26/08/2005 16:38

Aw...and so jealous of the baby bags, read some woman in the paper today saying she wishes she could carve out a hole in the matress just to be able to sleep on her front..I've said the same thing so many times!
It's crazy how much you miss such a simple thing...
Looking forward to lying on my squishy belly post baby..heheh

Enthusia · 26/08/2005 17:23

Right cot together - very easy considering it was Ikea. Asda baby bits in the wash - not that much, have to try the larger one later. Got some sleepsuits and bodysuits, 3 for £2 which I thought was good, plus some PJs for me and a nightie for the birth. PJs are button up and were only a fiver and nightie, considering it will be thrown out straight away was only £3 and not too frumpy. Also cot a fitted sheet for £4 for cot which fits brilliantly, was worried as Ikea beds etc don't usually take normal sheets!

BoB - your day sounds lovely, might suggest to DH we have a day in front of the tv over the weekend.

ChaCha and Nova I was told baby was head down at all my MW appointments except the last one where she was so busy I don't think she even checked! Don't know how babies normally lie - I get really confused. Your beanbag must help though Nova as all the mags I have read say to go on all 4's in exercises for moving a breech baby.

ChaCha - are you a list person, I used to be, haven't made even one since being pg, well apart from one telling other people what to do around the house!

Beks - isn't it funny I always find buying prezzies for girls so much easier!!!!!

novadandypowder · 26/08/2005 17:37

BoB, i'm actually feeling better now than I have been through the entire pg so far, so making the most of it before I get too big and tired. Also DH is not a DIY boy, so if I don't do it, no-one will, and given the luck we've had with builders so far I'd rather not risk getting someone else in to do it. Anyway, makes me feel better about indulging in a take-away pizza last night.

Enthusia, i also read that leaning forwards encourages the baby to lay back to front (rather than back to back) which is supposed to help at birth - here's hoping.

Right, bathroom is now painted, along with my headscarf, and have rewarded myself with a rice crispie cake deluxe (coco pops set with white choc - yum). The problem is it now makes the skirting boards and door look really tatty so i'm going to have to repaint that now.

babyonboard · 26/08/2005 17:42

Should I be worried that my tot is still 'spinning'?
At the scan on monday in hospital he was head up, but midwife said this morning he is head down, and it feels like he's doing cartwheels to be honest! I'm 27w 5 d today.

You are all a bad influence! Always talking about lovely foods! and you all being busy busy busy..makes me want to get up and do something (but i'm too scared of fainting!)..luckily i'm still loving my sewing so I can sit back and do that.
i am well into my embroidery now..it's very therapeutic, with a dvd of sopranos or sex and the city on or such.

novadandypowder · 26/08/2005 17:51

Just you wait BoB, once I've been to my knitting classes and the painting is finished you won't be getting me off the sofa until i'm in labour.

The baby still has loads of room to move around in, and it'll keep moving until it's ready to come out, so don't worry .

We've watched all of The Sopranos and SATC. We're currently hooked on The Shield, and we've just started getting into CSI. We love DVD nights.
