A little experiment, can you identify the sex of a baby when they're wearing neutral clothes?

This is something that fasinates me! I have a 7 month old and I really think without wearing gender typical clothing you would have no idea of my babys sex.

I have put a picture of my baby of my profile, can you guess the sex?

Would be interesting to see others DC too!

I haven't read the thread yet in case you've revealed the sex, and I didn't want to cheat!

I reckon the baby is a girl. There's an expression and intensity in the eyes that looks feminine. The mouth and nose are quite fine too. It is difficult to tell though, until babies get proper hair they are very similar.

If he's a boy, he's very handsome!!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/04/2010 20:23

Funny you should ask!

I visited my sister and her 6 week old pfb this weekend and she is convinced that people would know that he is a boy even in gender neutral clothes. I tried to nicely tell her that I ver much doubted she was right.

This thread proves my point!

I don't think that she is a MN'er but I might have to prod her to sign up and point her in the direction of this thread.

OP - your dd is very cute!

DitaVonCheese · 25/04/2010 20:25

PDog I'm guessing a boy, but can't tell if I'm influenced by the blue change mat!

maxybrown · 25/04/2010 20:26

OK I have apicture on profile too now

maxybrown · 25/04/2010 20:29

oh that is a 9 month old btw

PDog · 25/04/2010 20:30

maxybrown I think boy

differentID · 25/04/2010 20:37

Maxybrown- boy!

CuppaTeaJanice · 25/04/2010 20:37

Pdog - girl

Maxybrown - boy

My almost 2 year old DS got mistaken for a girl twice today! To be fair, he did have a hairgrip in as his fringe is an awkward length, although it was a plain brown clip. And he was pushing around his friend's pink dolls pram.

differentID · 25/04/2010 20:38

Pdog- you have a son?

DuelingFanjo · 25/04/2010 20:52

maxybrown - boy.

DuelingFanjo · 25/04/2010 20:54

pdog - girl?

McBitchy · 25/04/2010 20:58

popped my toddler on!

DitaVonCheese · 25/04/2010 21:02

Maxybrown - boy

McBitchy - can't see your profile

I am finding this fascinating

maxybrown · 25/04/2010 21:03

yes

However even now at 2 yrs 7 months it is presumed he is a girl - especially if he has a hat on or is wearing red! Always when he has a hat on actually - if it is not obviously a boys!

Hulababy · 25/04/2010 21:09

memoo - I instinctively thought girl, but have no real reason as to why.

dontcallmebaby - girl?

pdog - girl again? Although I admit that the blue mat is making me doubt my instincts.

maxybrown - boy?

mcBitchy - your profile isn't open to view publically

PDog · 25/04/2010 21:09

My DC is a.... GIRL! I've always thought she looks like a girl but maybe that is just because I am her mum

She has been mistaken for a boy on a few occasions when wearing green - I always thought it was just because they only gave her a quick glance but DH has just said she looks like a boy in this pic.

I am finding this fascinating too.

Hulababy · 25/04/2010 21:10

mcBitchy - girl? But is that because of the longer hair?

DinahRod · 25/04/2010 21:14

It's harder to get it wrong when they're a bit older as baby clothes only seem to come in sodding pink or blue (pet peeve) but both dcs when nb looked like dh and therefore quite masculine. Didn't bother me in the least, although have heard FIL saying to dd, "Oh you do look pretty, now" !

Hulababy · 25/04/2010 21:22

More to guess:

Baby A?

Baby B?

Baby C?

DitaVonCheese · 25/04/2010 21:24

Girl, girl, boy?

I'm realising that all babies look like girls to me!

GoldenSnitch · 25/04/2010 21:30

I'd guess Girl, Boy, Boy.

Have got all the others right so far! NOt so sure on these though...

Greensleeves · 25/04/2010 21:30

boy boy girl

DuelingFanjo · 25/04/2010 21:31

girl, boy, boy?

sallyJayGorce · 25/04/2010 21:32

I'd have gone for girl but only just. Too busy thinking how incredibly cute your baby is regardless of gender. What a darling - and love the expression.

Hulababy · 25/04/2010 21:34

Noone got them right yet (well not all 3 anyway)

Clue: there are 2 girls and one boy.
