Here's some combinations I'm pondering on; any opinions would be great. I'm into multiple middle names, as you can see...

Boy Combos:

Atticus Farrow Artan Remus
Atticus Larkin Aubrey More
Atticus Farrow Artan Boone
Atticus Aubrey Larkin Boone/More.

Girl Combos:
Evelyn Rose Pommeline ("Pommaleen") Noelle
Evelyn Violet Pommeline Noelle.

Thoughts?

Agree totally with "BridesheadRegardless" regarding middle names.

noktok, it's not true that all children with unusual names will be teased more. Children can make up taunts for the most plain of names. Many of my friends have very unusual names. They all say they love their names.

Meadowlarks I hope you have no trouble ignoring the people here who don't like more unusual names or care for lots of middle names.

Atticus and Evelyn are lovely names. I prefer the Rose combo for Evelyn. I'm undecided on the boys one, but I really like Aubrey, and I think it sounds lovely with Atticus.

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 15:24

lowrib - thanks. I wasn't expecting everyone to like them, quite the opposite.

Let's remember that to everyone these people meet, they will be Atticus and Evelyn; hardly outrageous or hilarious. In regards to middle names, for some reason I care far more about the boy's than the girl's; that's why I've gone to town with the number and the meanings. They're not set in stone, anyway.

Sorry, I got a headache reading the boy names. Please: no no no.

Girl names far too long & bizarre as well...

nappyaddict · 21/02/2010 15:27

Please do not use Farrow, Artan or Pommeline. They sound ridiculous. 2 middle names is plenty as well. 3 is a bit OTT (unless one is your maiden name)

appellationmountain.net/2008/10/03/name-of-the-day-pomeline/ - For anyone wondering where I got Pommeline from.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 21/02/2010 15:33

Technically you made Pommeline up because you didn't like the proper spelling.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2010 15:34

There's nothing wrong with 3 middle names. Unless they area load of unbelievably pretentious waddle. It honestly looks like you're trying too hard.

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 15:35

No I didn't, there's another website that I can't find that links both. Either way, with the amount of "Tryndy" names nowadays, I hardly think I'm breaking protocol. I might return to the original spelling, anyway.

OP posts:
meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 15:36

Pretentious waddle? I don't see how you can gauge that without knowing why I chose them.

GibbonInARibbon · 21/02/2010 15:45

Your list of names hurt my eyes.

But I do like Evelyn.

nappyaddict · 21/02/2010 15:49

The only people I know who gave their DC 3 middle names used either their maiden name or one of their mum's maiden names as a middle name or where the child is mixed race and they have wanted to use names from both cultures.

poppydaisy · 21/02/2010 15:55

I really like your first name choices, especially Atticus!

I think you can give your name as many middle names as you like (well, I'd probably stop after 4 or 5 ), as they rarely get used and are a great way to honour relatives.

I particularly like:

Atticus Farrow Artan Remus

and

Evelyn Rose Pommeline Noelle

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 15:59

Thank you, poppydaisy.

Since I've come under the usual "pretentious" accusations -

Atticus - After the obvious Finch; if there's ever two people I'd want a child to look up to, it would be Gregory Peck and Atticus Finch.

Farrow - After a friend of mine whose life has been incredibly hard up to this point and yet still carries on without complaining.

Remus - After the kids rejected by society who built modern civilisation.

Larkin - Like I said, the poet. A great unpretentious man and life-long librarian.

Aubrey - Another friend.

More - After Thomas More, great thinker and loyal companion, who defended his beliefs to the end.

If these say "pretentious" then we're speaking different languages.

janeite · 21/02/2010 16:01

I don't think they are pretentious; they are just rather 'too much' all combined imho. But then again, my daughters have names which lots of people would consider boring, as dp talked me out of all my hormonal hippy suggestions. They are not boring people though!

MrsBadger · 21/02/2010 16:02

Atticus Philip Thomas?

GibbonInARibbon · 21/02/2010 16:04

MrsB can I just whisper that your hamster post made me snort tea out of my nose.

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 16:05

Philip - like I said, bad connotations.
Thomas - Also bad connotations.
They also don't sound as nice.

OP posts:
poppydaisy · 21/02/2010 16:10

No, Philip and Thomas don't sound as nice... I guess we all have different tastes .

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 16:18

I'm thinking now possibly:

Atticus Larkin Remus More

Evelyn Rose Pomeline (one L)

I see that Noelle on top of Pomeline was a bit much.

Larkin as a surname is different to Larkin as a name. And Larkin as a poet was a racist misogynist yes - a damned fine poet though!

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 16:26

Lots of incredible artists were racist misogynists...it doesn't mean the child has to be. I like the way Larkin sounds anyway, and janeite, it's not like I'm using it as a first name, it won't ever be repeated if it doesn't have to be.

The friend's first name happens to be Sophie, which through the impenetrable casing of luxury around me, seemed so wrong for little Atticus.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 21/02/2010 16:35

so why isn't Sophie in your girls' options? is said friend only an inspiration to boys?
