Here's some combinations I'm pondering on; any opinions would be great. I'm into multiple middle names, as you can see...

Boy Combos:

Atticus Farrow Artan Remus
Atticus Larkin Aubrey More
Atticus Farrow Artan Boone
Atticus Aubrey Larkin Boone/More.

Girl Combos:
Evelyn Rose Pommeline ("Pommaleen") Noelle
Evelyn Violet Pommeline Noelle.

Thoughts?

Bumperlicious - I've narrowed them down now Evie was actually an original favourite of mine, so I'm not exactly striving for every name to be totally original.

janeite - I suspect this is what would happen if I go with Atticus. I have a friend whose initials spell B.O.B, so she's been Bob for as long as I can remember. Her parents still insist on Becky though

Larkin is an interesting choice. He was a fine poet but came over as a rather sad man. Racist and misogynistic yes. And the lines of his which come most readily to mind are

They fuck you up your mum and dad
They may not mean to but they do
They fill you with the faults they had
And add a few more just for you.

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 18:12

How very apt

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 18:13

aarghhelp - Good choice.

If your surname's Tin or Tout you'd have:

AFAR Tin

or

AFAR Tout

Whichever you prefer

cece · 21/02/2010 18:24

My sons have lots of middle names. Please note that when filling in forms you may start to deeply regret so many, as they never fit into the space provided...

MrsBadger · 21/02/2010 18:28

With that many middle names you may get a very good initial-based nickname - what letter does your surname start with?

Or use Atticus Larkin Artan Remus More and call him Alarm

Actually Atticus Larkin could easily be Ally.

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 18:30

Bella32 - Actually with the current combo it'd be ALRM Tin or ALRM Tout, and since my surname is neither your point is irrelevant.

MrsBadger - LOL, Alarm. My surname begins with O.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

MrsBadger · 21/02/2010 18:31

oh you have to do it, Alarmo is a fab nn!

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 18:34

My points are often irrelevant. But I think they're funny, so it works for me.

Alarmo! Alarmo!

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 18:34

aarghhelp - You're like a little Larkin sitting on my shoulder and sending me subliminal messages.

MrsBadger - Haha! Alarmo!

I wonder whether Larkin would have been amused at the thought of someone naming their child after him?

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 18:36

I think he would have appreciated the irony.

Drop the R name and your son will be very big in car rental

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 18:41

Irony will literally be his middle name. He'll grow up to be Chandler Bing.

OP posts:
aarghhelp · 21/02/2010 18:44

Literally?

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 18:45

Atticus Larkin Artan Irony Remus More?

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 18:45

My sympathies to the vicar

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 18:47

Literally in the ironic sense.

All kids get to the stage where the conversation goes:

"so what's your middle name?"

I remember so many times my best friend would not tell people hers. It was an unusual name with a strange spelling. I knew it but she was so embarassed every time this happened and it upset her. If it had been plain and simple, she could have just said it, but as it was, it was hours of torture for a teen because she didn't want to say it.

There are more ways to give a child meaning in their life than giving them a name which many people hear and think: WTF?

You can admire a person without using their name.

aarghhelp · 21/02/2010 19:03

I think there is an advantage in giving a mixture of common and uncommon names so that Junior can choose to be called John if he wants to in later life. If your lad were to want to be a plumber or a squaddie he might find himself a bit stuck for options. Of course it would be great in many ways if he is called to the bar or becomes Prime Minister, but he might make other choices.

It is a little early to be planning choices of schools, but he would have to be well hard to live down Atticus Aubrey etc at an inner city comprehensive.

dawntigga · 21/02/2010 19:09

I'd suggest you rethink all the boys names unless you enjoy the thought of your child being beaten up daily. Of course you may decide to go for an uber expensive private school in which case it won't matter.

Atticus will invariably get called 'At' eventually by his teenage chums.

teenage boys will reduce all names to the most basic form ime, and then eventually build them up adding 'a' or 'as' 'ly' or 'ski'.

You will have no control ovet this and 'At' is not objectionable is it?

Maria2007loveshersleep · 21/02/2010 19:22

I still think Atticus Larkin Remus More sounds ridiculous. Sorry. Remus=reminds me of wolves for some reason. Don't like it at all. More I also don't like, just doesn't make sense to me as a name. Atticus is pretty but I fear he might be called Attic as a NN .

Larkin I like...

Evelyn Rose Pomeline has grown on me. I actually think that Pomeline- even though unusual- is pretty & melodic. Evelyn Rose, these 2 names on their own without Pomeline is perfect. I really also like Rose Pomeline but NOT Evelyn Pomeline (too long).

popsypie · 21/02/2010 19:34

Love Atticus by the way as Atticus the best father in the world from 'To Kill A Mocking Bird' is my favourite character in any book I've read. Why not call you daughter Scout and stay on the same theme.

PS: Not sure about all the middle names, maybe go for something very 'normal' in the middle to give them a bit of choice. I've been to one wedding where there were giggles at the groom's middle names. Awful.
