Here's some combinations I'm pondering on; any opinions would be great. I'm into multiple middle names, as you can see...

Boy Combos:

Atticus Farrow Artan Remus
Atticus Larkin Aubrey More
Atticus Farrow Artan Boone
Atticus Aubrey Larkin Boone/More.

Girl Combos:
Evelyn Rose Pommeline ("Pommaleen") Noelle
Evelyn Violet Pommeline Noelle.

Thoughts?

I like Atticus a lot, especially because of the TKAMB connection. There is an Atticus at my DC's (state) school, who doesn't get teased at all.

I really don't like any of the other boy's names. I don't like surnames as first names generally (unless perhaps they are a family name).
If you really feel such a strong connection to Phillip Larkin, why don't you just use Atticus Larkin Surname? It sounds SO much better.

I like most of your girl's choices. I like Evelyn, Violet and Rose a lot. I'm hugely in the minority but I actually like Pomeline (with one m). I don't like Noelle personally, but more due to a personal connection.
How about just Evelyn Pomeline Rose? I think it's really pretty.
Adding a third mn just spoils the effect imo.

Other French names you might like:
Apolline
Amandine (means almond)
Capucine
Maelys
Genevieve
Clementine
Coraline
Valentine (could use for a boy too)
Romane

It's obvious that you have very individual taste in names (not a bad thing) BUT you do have to remember that you are naming someone else who may not share your individual taste and may be v embarrassed by it!!

each to their own i say if you like the names and want 3 + middle names go for it, I love evelyn rose, no opinion on which sequence of boys names but think 'Arty' is a nice shorter version of Atticus x

AllieW · 21/02/2010 20:18

Lots of middle names can work, my Aunty was Kathleen Dorothy Joyce and my Uncle is Alec Francis John. Gives you lots of choices if you don't like your first name!

Of those you've suggested, I like Atticus and Aubrey and Evelyn Rose (which pn of Evelyn are you going for, btw, Ever-lyn or Eve-lyn?).

Similarly distinguished names, perhaps also on a poetry theme, include Byron and Dylan. In point of fact, how about Atticus Byron Aubrey?

AllieW · 21/02/2010 20:19

Oh, forgot to mention that Vaughn/Vaughan might work in there, too.

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 20:23

Woah, lots to reply to...thanks for all your replies. It seems the controversy's died down a bit and the Atticus/Pomeline fans have come out of the wood-work

In regards to the lovely stereotyping going on; I went to school with a Euphemia Valentine Bluebell Smythe who was one of the most popular girls in the year and very unresentful of her uniqueness. I know it's not the same for everyone and whilst I'm against private schooling, I highly doubt I'd let my kids attend a comp where you get ridiculed if your name is more eccentric than Dave.

popsypie - I hate the name Scout and I'm not trying to have a clan of Harper Lee connotations.

loobylu3 - Thanks, but I couldn't face giving just one middle name, I can't really explain why. I love Evelyn Pomeline Rose, thanks.

Brideshead - I don't mind At or even Atski

AllieW - I'm using "Ever-lyn", I think "Eve-lyn" is the masculine pronunciation. Funny you say "distinguished", I chose Larkin because the man himself was totally unpretentious; I find Byron quite the opposite. Vaughn is horrid imo.

Well, obviously it's your choice but the child may not be as popular as your friend Euphemia.
I do wonder if your DP is as keen on these names as you are as your taste is so unusual an not v popular (on here at least)!

StrictlyKatty · 21/02/2010 21:38

I think you should drop the More. I love TM but it just looks really silly. The surname is always spelt Moore now and never used as a firstname.

Also, as the last middle name it would be beyong funny if your last name is a noun.

'Atticus More Onion' for example

Just silly silly silly

poppydaisy · 21/02/2010 21:45

"I'd suggest you rethink all the boys names unless you enjoy the thought of your child being beaten up daily. Of course you may decide to go for an uber expensive private school in which case it won't matter."

Do you really think children will beat up a child because his name is Atticus and not Adam or Arthur or Alexander ... honestly do you think a child finds it that strange and tease worthy?

And do you think a child going to private school has a different view on names than one going to a state school, really?

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 21:46

Not all comp kids are called Dave.

I know a Cornelius Hubert Aristotle Vernon and a Salman Peregrine Indigo Valentine at ours.

"I'd suggest you rethink all the boys names unless you enjoy the thought of your child being beaten up daily. Of course you may decide to go for an uber expensive private school in which case it won't matter."

What does this say about the upbringing and parenting of those children that beat up others purely because they have a more unusual name? I'm actually quite shocked that a parent would make such a comment!

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 22:07

StrictlyKatty - I've been wondering this too.

Bella32 - I know, it was a stupid example, but I'm with poppydaisy on this; I actually think unless your name has a clear funny connotation attached to it, kids really don't care, they might think it's unusual, but when you have a group of them growing up together it becomes of little importance. Your examples illustrate the point; how often do you hear of Cornelius/Salman being made fun of/beaten up? My guess is not often.

Salman Peregrine Indigo Valentine?!

Really sorry but I just don't get the whole loads & loads of middle names things. I just don't get it. Gets even worse if they're strange names on top of that such as

-Indigo
-Peregrine

or More (sorry to the OP)...

mopsyflopsy · 21/02/2010 22:13

I'm surprised by people's strong (negative) emotions to the OP's plan to give her baby several names. Why does it shock people that much? Who cares?

I wouldn't personally give my child more than 2 names (because I'd be too lazy when it comes to filling out forms etc ), but it doesn't bother or offend me (and doesn't make me faint) if the OP gives her children 10 names!

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 22:18

Salman has two younger brothers.

Archimedes Stendhal Boris Oliphant and Tennyson Hamilton Ulysses Gregor.

loobylu3 · 21/02/2010 22:20

Bella- yeh right!

loobylu3 · 21/02/2010 22:20

Bella- yeh right!

meadowlarks · 21/02/2010 22:22

Thanks, MF. I'm baffled by it too. People don't seem to realise that English culture is in the minority when it comes to MNs; if this were a Spanish board, there'd be no questions asked.

Maria - That's great. May you have many easy-to-fill-in-forms-with children. Peregrine used to be a favourite of mine, actually. My cousin's called Bede Walter Inigo Nicholas if you're wondering why I consider giving at least two middle names normal.

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 22:23

Can anyone guess what their baby sister's name is?

Heated · 21/02/2010 22:26

They're not that different from recent Times entries and compared with some positively tame:

Montague Ignatius Collingwood caught my eye.

My absolute personal favourite this year is Alfred Huckleberry Jack Beowulf Middlemist

seeker · 21/02/2010 22:27

Oh, don;t be silly. Naming a future adult human being is ine of the most grown up things you have to do, do so it like a grown up. Not like a teenager.

loobylu3 · 21/02/2010 22:34

Is it Horatia Xanthe Lettice Camilla maybe?

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 22:37

You're way off, looby.

It's Raspberry Una Gertrude Rosemary Alhambra Theodora.

loobylu3 · 21/02/2010 23:03

That is v impressive Bella! I like Theodora though!

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 23:07

They were just a little disappointed dc4 was a girl.

They had Abraham Claudius Roman Olivier Navarrah Yul Mephistopheles all lined up if she'd been a boy

Bella32 · 21/02/2010 23:12

Of course my real name is Petunia Magdalena Shiloh Lara.
