Ooh Hairymonkey,I love the name Amaryllis. I can't believe I forgot that one!

I also adore Saoirse, but it'd be a nightmare to spell and pronounce. If we were irish I'd have used it straight away!

I really liked Austin but as our surname is Power i was out voted!!!

honeyapple · 16/02/2010 19:29

ever since watching the film Paris, Texas I have dreamed of having a little boy called Hunter- although that big oath from gladiators that sha**ed Ulrika Johnnson keeps popping into view...

thisxgirl · 16/02/2010 19:31

Another one for Gabriel and Sebastian. Also, Thaddeus.

thisxgirl · 16/02/2010 19:35

I forgot Luca, Fabien and Raphael.

I haven't thought about girl's names ever since I found out I was having a boy...

Cyclops · 16/02/2010 19:35

Girls: Kizzy Bunty Yelena Boys:

Digby
Peregrine
Siegried (yes, ACGAS)

TaurielTest · 16/02/2010 19:36

DS was born on midsummer's day, and I did briefly consider "Solstice". Y'know, Sol for short. It was probably the hormones though

Spacefrog · 16/02/2010 19:37

I love Flora. DD was going to be called Flora but I changed my mind at the last minute because of the margarine.

Morloth · 16/02/2010 19:37

My fav actress has named her children Odin and Viggo, I wish I had that sort of courage!

PandaEis · 16/02/2010 19:40

i LOVE

for girl...

Rosalind
Rosalee
Margot
Cassidy
Maddison (not so much since DD has a devil child/friend of this name)
Eleanor

DH vetoed the lot when we were having DD

for boy...

Morgan
Dallas
Cassius
Jackson
Patrick

DH has vetoed all of these too

DorotheaPlenticlew · 16/02/2010 19:52

Patsy99, I love Aphra too, for the same reason! I think it is quite realistically useable, too. Would be arguing strongly for it for soon-to-arrive DD, except that we are avoiding names ending in A for surname-running-together reasons.

so ...

Aphra
Cleopatra
Hepzibah (I have one in my family tree )
Unity

Arthur
Reuben
Sutherland
Eli (again in the fam tree there is an Elihu but not sure I'd go that far)

LifeOfKate · 16/02/2010 19:56

I'm back for an update These are definitely names I'd never use, but I still secretly like ...

Girls:
Echo
Posy
Ariel
Tuesday
Tulip

Not as inspired by boys names, so not really got any of those

cerealqueen · 16/02/2010 19:57

Spacefrog, damm food manufacturers, I really wanted to call my little girl Clover, a character from What Katy Did but DP said everybody would think of the spread. Which they would.

bebejones · 16/02/2010 19:57

Some of these 'fantasy' names are really lovely!

Rejesta - Anathema is great! But would she get called Anthea!

Sungirltan - my actual first name has been mentioned too!

Cantmummyhaveabreak - Tabitha is my favourite girls name at the moment. I am 'working' on DH for this if we have another girl sometime! I love it!

MinnieMummy - Xanthe is a great name that DH vetoed Also really like Iolanthe.

Bokki - Think my SIL is going to be calling her next DC Monty if it's a boy!

aoifesmama · 16/02/2010 20:07

DD is Aoife (clearly) so shimmer that someone liked it - although possibly not on this list.

I desperately wanted her to be Daisy, but surname is Donkor and DD absolutely refused

Kingsroadie · 16/02/2010 20:33

Good thread! My name is on here as is my daughter's name (I think referred to as poncey)... Quite a few of these we considered too!

I like Sheherezade but I think possible a bit too much of a mouthful and what to shorten it to...
Also Savannah but Husband isn't terribly keen - not that we need to think or any names - our daughter is only 11 weeks old!

pamplem0usse · 16/02/2010 20:37

Argh my fave names are all popping up on here and I didn't even think they were that odd (well, not all).

Girls

Scarlett
Poppy
Ruby

(... yes a bit of a red theme!)

Boys

Huxley
Arthur
Horatio (although I think that would have to be a middle name)

DH likes the girls names, but he's decided he likes George for a boy. Given we were thinking of Michael for a middle name for family reasons I've vetoed that.... we're not having a George Michael in our house!

NKffffffffee0f8010X1140828dc0e · 16/02/2010 20:42

would love to call our boy Florian but it's just not on, is it?

comixminx · 16/02/2010 20:45

We're just starting to think of names for DC1 and have had good fun saying utterly ridiculous things as well as reasonably sensible ones.

Some of them are a bit long-winded / private jokey to explain but there's always:
Faith, Hope, or Charity, or Prudence or any of the other virtue names (I think these are nice actually but it would feel far too old-fashioned seeing as I mostly do know them as virtue names)
Hepzibah (actually quite cool but very definitely old-fashioned!)
Too many Lord of the Rings ones that we could never face actually lumbering a poor child with - Galadriel, Samwise, Meriadoc, Frodo... yes, that's where our geekiness comes out!

Beegey · 16/02/2010 20:56

Oooh, what fun. I love love love Gulliver and Malachi for boys but they don't sound good with our surname. Also like Austin and Millar, which we may well use one day (but most likely will use Kingsley). If DD had been a boy she would have been Rufus or Ambrose - both of which I have gone off a bit now.

Atticus is awesome.

My DD is Clover and I feel happy every time I say it. I couldn't give a monkeys about bovine connotations and I love it too much to let butter get in the way! I reckon if you love a name, go for it. Am frankly rather bored of hearing the same names in the playground.

Idreaminchocolate · 16/02/2010 20:59

For a boy "Thor" or "Strav" - short for Stravinsky - totally bonkers and would never use them in RL, but when I actually do get pregnant I might wind people up with these names when they ask if we have any ideas! Also "Fenella" and "Finoula" for girl twins (our surname also starts with an F and ends with an "ella")!!

A bit more seriously I like Valentine for a gril but DH has vetoed...

sportinguista · 16/02/2010 21:02

DS name is Rafael but his dad is portuguese so it fits well with our second name.

Daddy did suggest Caligula at one point which has to be the oddest suggestion, although I think that was when he's had a couple of whiskies and was kidding around. Both he and his brothers got the roman emperor theme so I guess he thought of continuing. Why caligula and not augustus or julius I don't know...
