Lucian. Love the way it sounds but DH insists it's son of Lucifer think he got it from a bunch of silly films

My MIL is called Noelle so I wouldn't even consider!

TheDevilEatsBabies what's the problem with Cian? That's my son's name! [worried]

WhoSleptInMyPorridgeAndBrokeIt · 18/02/2010 17:00

LC200 why on earth Rubella??? Why not Measles or Tetanus then?

LC200 · 18/02/2010 17:59

It's pretty! Ruby or Ella for short.

I am actually not over keen on Rubella - it's dh's "choice" - not that we used it obviously.

I do love Miscellany though...

WhoSleptInMyPorridgeAndBrokeIt · 18/02/2010 18:15

well we were really really bad with baby names - we just don't seem to like any names, especially me. We were quite happy with Evelyn, and bc DH was for some reason absolutely convinced we were gonna have a girl we kind of gave up on boys' names. Suffice to say we had a son took us about 10 days to choose a name, most of which went on as follows:

DH (browsing baby names websites): ?
I: no
DH: ?
I: no
DH: ?..?..?
I: NO WAY!!

Really hope no.2 will be a girl, otherwise I'll probably have to hang myself

WhoSleptInMyPorridgeAndBrokeIt · 18/02/2010 18:22

Is it just me or does anyone else think Jasper, Felix and Mauve are cat's names??

BTW I doubt anyone would be as cruel as Herr Heinrich Schliemann, the excavator of Troy, who named two of his kids Andromache and Agamemnon

LC200 · 18/02/2010 18:39

Agamemnon! That was another one dh liked!

Lovethesea · 18/02/2010 19:23

heQet · 18/02/2010 20:47

I've always liked Savannah for a girl.

When I was young and stupid I thought Shangri-la would be a pretty name.

gremlindolphin · 18/02/2010 21:36

wow what a cool thread - I wish I had a baby to use up some of the inspiration.

I have 2 dds but if I had a boy my fantasy names were
Jasper which dh doesn't like anyway
Stefan which is the name of first boy friend so bit of a no no
Cassian - just like the name but dh thinks its v poncy!

Lovecat · 18/02/2010 21:47

ex-SIL wanted Savannah for a girl until DH pointed out it would make the poor child sound like porn star (we have an unfortunate surname)...

Boys names I love but DH ruled out on grounds of 'getting beaten up every day in the playground'itis:

Dorian
Florian
Sebastian (actually Sebastiane, but I never even got as far as spelling it DH screamed NO!)
Tristan
Julian
Lucien
Alaric
Raphael
Gabriel
Ariel
Oisean
Ciaran
Wolfgang

Never considered Thor but it does have a ring to it...

Girls names I was overruled on:

Ella
Niambh
Sinead
Orlaith
Aisling
Scarlett
Flora/Florence
Stella
Julia
Freya

Nam e that DD (5) wishes she'd been called:

Chantelle

justwhen · 18/02/2010 21:54

Ok obscure I know but I would like to have called our girls the following:

Little Lips
Scopf a douf

BicycleBelle · 18/02/2010 23:28

I used my mad-but-I-love-them names as middle names: Texas (significant holiday) and Venus (strong female, and she had just one Wimbledon when DD was born).

BicycleBelle · 18/02/2010 23:29

That would be "won" Wimbledon - must go to bed!

Kayzr · 19/02/2010 08:10

Is anyone else making a note of any of these names for future use? Or am I the only one?

somanyboyssolittletime · 19/02/2010 09:59

Kayzr - me too! Am due to be induced with baby on Sunday, and have got this thread on my 'watching' list! Some lovely ideas here!

ChynaDoll2006 · 19/02/2010 10:14

Nativity for a girl. Beautiful, but crazy!

whimsicalname · 19/02/2010 10:35

I'm delighted how many people (ooh, 4 at last count) have said Cosmo! My second son is called that, and we frequently get complemented on it as a lovely name. We met a couple in a cafe who also had a 3 year old Cosmo, at the time. We (and they) had never met another.

Last summer I met a grown up Cosmo, who had heard me screaming at calling my Cosmo, and came and introduced himself. He was in his early twenties, and had always loved his name.

Part of me wants to say 'don't name your kid Cosmo' because I like him being unusual, but mostly I think go for it! It's a lovely Victorian name, and definitely due for a revival.

LC200 · 19/02/2010 10:47

Nativity is a great name.

Quite a few people have put my son's name down, but generally in their girl's list

I have a feeling he is going to hate me when he's older...
