Clarabumps · 17/02/2010 22:43

Girls
Araminta
Dolly
Lolita
Clover

Ophelia...far too tragic!

Boys

All of these seem a lot crazier when they#re said in a scottish west coast accent.

MamaMimi · 17/02/2010 22:43

Boy - Grover

Girl - Ariadne (Scottish surname, just wouldn't go)

LadyCressida · 17/02/2010 22:56

Lemuel for a boy.

Cleopatra, Persephone and Calypso for girls. I still wonder if I can sneak them in as middle names

Or maybe I'll just have to use them for pets!

Autumm for a girl I love it

Poppy,Holly, Daisy, Lily our boys would not of suited Daisy and Lily also all our children are big people so DH said no to all the flowers still wish I had Autum!

madnortherner · 18/02/2010 02:48

Am I the only one to have a DH who wanted unusual names for our two?

So my "guilty pleasures" are standard names: Jonathan, James - things like that.

Loving saladdays' hippy name of Pebble though. Maybe once you become an off-the-wall celeb eh?

bethjeff · 18/02/2010 03:14

I love the name Assunta as well. If I ever have another girl it will probably be at the top of my list.

I also liked Adeline, Crista (sounds a bit too much like Cresta for me though), Ada, Penelope, Farrah and Magda. But they got thumbs down from DH.

TKB · 18/02/2010 07:48

Jocasta. I thought Jocasta Innes was fabulous when I was a little girl, so it just always seemed beautiful. Everyone else thought I'd lost my mind.

MissWooWoo · 18/02/2010 09:36

Fuschia for a girl

Chip for a boy

BornToFolk · 18/02/2010 09:59

I've always loved Cornelius but you couldn't saddle a child with that could you?! DP and I both like Josiah too (West Wing fans) but not sure we'd be brave enough.

I like Fionn (pronounced Finn, as in Fionn mac Cumhaill) because my Irish granny used to tell me Fionn mac Cumhaill stories when I was little but it would mis-pronounced all the time. I really like Saoirse too but that would have similar spelling/pronounciation issues.

ceb80 · 18/02/2010 09:59

Chip was my nickname at school, no reason, just decided I didn't want to be called my name and wouldn't answer to anything else.

shockers · 18/02/2010 10:04

I would have loved to have named DD lettice.

Chandon · 18/02/2010 10:21

I want a girl, and I want to name her:

VALENTINA

Saw that one mentioned on page 1 already

Good powerful yet feminine name.

xxkt1xx · 18/02/2010 11:09

boodleboot · 18/02/2010 11:14

xxkt1xx · 18/02/2010 11:29

victoriascrumptious · 18/02/2010 13:38

Girls
Sheba

BOYS
Geronimo

fredsdead · 18/02/2010 14:10

REALLY wanted to give DS middle name 'Danger' but it got lost in those hazy, weepy early days when was being all emotional and I'd completely lost my sense of humour.

So regret it now, especially how appropriate it would be for the little terror.

LoveJules3 · 18/02/2010 15:01

I think my DD1 has my guilty name: Merren
I really like Saiorse(sp) too though, but no one would be able to pronounce it! I always wanted a girl called Eden, and thankfully my DH loved it and it's now dd2's name.
LOVE Jasper for a boy, but since Twilight came out everyone would think it was from that! We had a Joel instead. My Dh has never really vetoed any names............there's still time though!

panda76 · 18/02/2010 15:44

My DP is called Gabriel so I love that name. I love Irish names but DP isn't so sure that people over here would get them...Caoibhe, Aisling and Aoife are faves of mine for a girl and for a boy Cillian, Oisin and Fionn...needless to say DP isn't convinced

RuthChan · 18/02/2010 15:53

If I had another girl, I would dearly love to use Poppy, but it wouldn't be acceptable as a first name. Maybe for a middle name...

For a boy, I wanted to use Jasper or Felix, but neither worked. DS's middle name is James as a compromise.

There's a notable theme of ancient greek names in lots of people's lists. Interesting.
