Seeing your DCs names in this topic.

Do you struggle when you see your DCs names in this topic and when people say they don't like it do you feel a bit angry?

Or am I just mad???

I don't mind if they say "It's not my cup of tea" but when they say "It's poncey" or "it's chavey". I recently saw someone say that my DS1's name was "stuffy" I almost feel like I should defend my boys names.

I think I might stay away from here in future.

Nope. Doesn't bother me. If everyone liked the same names we'd all be called Lucy and Harry.

No because I love my DCs name and don't care if everyone else doesn't.

Names are so personal not everyone is going to like the same ones.

I know what you mean - someone said (and others agreed) that my dd's name was chavvy and suggests that I can't spell! My friends fell about laughing as they all call me Hyacinth Bucket. I changed my MN name as a sort of two fingers up to such people.

Yeah, my dd's name is apparently now too popular and heading for chavvydom. Oh well, it was still the only name me and dp could possibly agree on, so it was inevitable.

Dd2's name is considered poncey by a minority of posters but I dont let it worry me as I am a poncey person . If you pick a slightly unusual name (ie not Grace or Ben) a few people will love it, a few hate it and most will be ambivalent.

Someone said something along the lines of it was nice to call a boy after his father and added 'unless the fathers name is X (ds's name)obviously'. I was a bit that ds's name was the most unpleasant name she could think of.

dds name is chavvy apparently but I like it.

If you are being mean I suppose all names could fall into the 3 categories of poncey, chavvy or dull!

No doesn't bother me - but then I've only seen one of my 3 DS's names in this topic and then it was only the once and it was

"what sort of name is that" comment...........so I set them straight and told them it was a very normal name thank you very much, it just so happens it's not a English name

DS's name is considered boring, "try hard" and various other things according to this topic.

what some people like other people don't if we all liked the same name then it'd be a boring world

My dds names are rarely mentioned as they are unusual. However dd3's name has come up recently and it had a mostly favourable response, although a few called it 'poncey' etc.

Couldn't care in the slightest because I love it! We get so many lovely comments about her name. But it is understandable that not everyone is going to like it and that's absolutely fine.

If it really bothers you though, then perhaps you should hide the topic.

I totally understand that we can't all like the same names but why do people have to say "it's poncey or pretenious" etc why not just say. "its not my taste"

Yes, DS's "try hard" "poncey" names are family names too. OK, I'll admit he doesn't need 2 middle names. But I liked them, why should I choose only one to satisfy other people's inverted snobbery?

Takunda is known by everyone as "TK" - infact so few people knew his proper name that when I sent the Christening invites out I had "Takunda Myles (TK)" printed on them lol. And when I took him to the doctors recently I had to pause before I could remember what name they would have o the conputer screen in front of them

Tafara has preferred to be called Taf/Taffy for a few years now.

Tongai - well he's just Tongai LOL (although DH occasionally calls him by the English version of his name "Tony")

I just assume they must have no taste. Especially when I see the names they do like
