Do you struggle when you see your DCs names in this topic and when people say they don't like it do you feel a bit angry?

Or am I just mad???

I don't mind if they say "It's not my cup of tea" but when they say "It's poncey" or "it's chavey". I recently saw someone say that my DS1's name was "stuffy" I almost feel like I should defend my boys names.

I think I might stay away from here in future.

FAQ what are you going to pick for number 4

apparently I've given DD1 a name thats overused/too popular/common; DD2 a chav name and DD3 a name that should only be used for a boy

couldn't care less

Seems my two have common names, they've been labelled thus in this very thread!
Although DS2's full name is more unusual than the shortened version.
And we know of only one other boy with DS1's name, who is two years older and an MNers son.

Am I bothered?

DD's name has been described as boring. I didn't feel miffed. Actually I felt smug at my superior taste. That's bad isn't it...?

DS1's name is occasionally mentioned on lists by people but has never been the subject of an OP as far as I know. I wouldn't worry about other people not liking it as I can imagine large parts of the population wouldn't like it one principle. It might be deemed a tad poncey but I don't think so so that might rile me is I saw that criticism.

DS2 has a bit more mainstream name and although not massively common, not rare either. I think, given that it is a normal sort of a name I would be a bit surprised if somebody really really went to town on it but would probably think they were entitled to their weird opinion.

People have said that Ellie, which is my DD name is 'unfinished' and should have been eleanor or elizabeth....She is actually Ellie Mae and some people have said that having two names is CHAVVY....well, each to their own.....i love her name, always have and always will....B*llocks to em' ha x

Ds1's is unusual, it's ancient and not very common but we didn't try to be waaaaaayy out there despite what some people might think; our other option was James! Very rarely mentioned on here. I think 1 Mner might have a son with the same name.

DD2 has an unusual first name, it's derived from my mother's name, in whose memory she is named. However, it's a bit of a mouthful and she has always been known by her nn which is VERY popular and increasingly (imho) chavvy. Her full name is positively commented on, her nn has had a few negative comments.

If we ever have dc3, we have already picked out very m/c traditional names.

My DD has an old lady name which is either lovely or horrid according to these threads. And her second name is a cats name apparently

oh don't tease me dizzy - that's really not fair after my thread last night - I've just about stopped being emotional about the whole thing

(fwiw I'm keeping the cot, going to take one side off and get some cushions and make it into a little sofa for DS2 and 3 ).)

but actually I think if I ever did have a 4th (my god did you see that pig fly past the window!!?) it will have to be a girl, think we're all out of T names - although we did consider Tamuka for DS3........

a girl would be Alexis Yananai

Report
dizzydixies · 27/03/2009 22:20

sorry FAQ!!

loving Alexia Yananai though

Report
FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 22:22

Alexis my dear not a at the end

DS1 would have been Zoe Yananai, DS2 would have been Alexis Yananai, DS3 would have been Alexis Yananai.........only changed from Zoe to Alexis as my couins had a DD not long after we had DS1 and called her Zoe - and we've religiously kept to "no family names"

Report
FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 22:24

and if by some stroke of luck I did get my 4th and it turned out to be twins (there are twins on my mums side of the family......) then boys errrm pass

Girls would be the Alexis Yananai and Chelsea "something"

I now know (thanks to MN ) that Chelsea is a chav name - but I don't care - think they go very nicely together

Hmmm, it does bother me a little, I must admit. I try to bear in mind that everyone else is tasteless and mad is entitled to have different tastes to me

I have had a number of opinions voiced about my dd's names.
Dd1's name is apparantly extremely dull, dd2's name is a nickname, too cutesy and very common (not actually been called chavvy yet, but I think its a matter of time ...) and dd3's name is apparantly very common too and if you throw a stone, you'll hit one.

Ah well, I love them

My DD's name was listed on here as being a chav name of tomrrow. I love it and it's not common at all in Scotland!

I recently saw my own name being slated on here, that didn't make me happy.

I think we should all remember to try and be polite.

Somebody once did a whole page of "no" repeated over and over and over again for my son's name!! But I didn't mind. Lots of people whose taste was more similar to my own made comments like 'oh I'll add that to my list". So I think if you're thick skinned you filter out the comments of posters whose taste you don't share anyway!!

I mean in real life, if I'm wheeling baby Rufus out and about and somebody who called their baby Andrew or Jaden makes a face (you know, theeeee face) and says "is that a family name?" you don't care do you!!!! Cos you know you are thinking the same about their child's name!

(My son isn't called Rufus btw, but I like that name, and my son'sname is a love or hate name as I have learned reading this board)

The only time I ever got a bit ruffled about a name on mn was when cod weirdly spotted my rl name against a posting on the BBC or somesuch and came on here going arf arf ponce. Who has a name liek Xxxx Xxxx?

And then everyone started changing their posting names to versions of my rl name and posing around going oooh I'm Xxxx Xxxx la la la.

And that was a little

Other than that, if we all liked the same baby names there'd be even more angsting over name stealing and the like.

wow, that's extreme shona! you can't really mock an adult for their own name! That was out of their hands. Did Cod mean that she couldn't believe it was your REAL name.

I don't know, they were just having a laugh - no offense taken really.

Not that there's anything funny about the name Arabella Cholmondely-Pussey in any case **Disclaimer: my name is actually quite ordinary - I don't know why it caught the eye!

I presume you're not really the actress S R, are you Shona???? Or are you? Don't answer that!!!
