Ellynor?

We are contemplating the name Ellynor - spelt as it sounds, for our next dc, we want to be unusual and know that Eleanor is the usual spelling but are quite keen of going slightly off centre.

Honest thoughts please - but do be gentle

No, no and no. It makes me think of Nelly the Elephant. Eleanor is a lovely name - and if it's not broken, don't try to fix it.

If you like unusual, then pick an unusual name and spell it correctly.

If you want a less common spelling, at least go for a genuine one. Elinor (the original spelling as it happens).

Nah.

She'd be forever spelling it to people. Off centre is one thing but inventing a spelling for a very common name is unnecessary IMO. If you want to be unusual choose an unusual name surely? 'Cos when people hear it (which they will do more often than see it) they will have no idea you were trying to be off centre.

Eleanor is a lovely name though.

Elinor is good, and unusual.
I think that if you spell it Ellynor people will just think you didnt know how it was meant to be spelt.

It would be a problem though, as most people spell it Eleanor so would assume that it's spelled that way. I certainly would.

I love it, would have used it for dd but it's my sister's name.

My Mum and I wanted to spell it Elena but my dad oput his foot down - glad he did tbh, Eleanor is pretty as it is imo.

Finola - Gaelic version is Fionnuala. Pronounced Finoola.

I'll try and come up with something better!
