Ellynor?

We are contemplating the name Ellynor - spelt as it sounds, for our next dc, we want to be unusual and know that Eleanor is the usual spelling but are quite keen of going slightly off centre.

Honest thoughts please - but do be gentle

"do be gentle"

OK, I'll try. You've gone too far off-centre here, I think.

You want to be unusual, which is fine, of course. So please choose a genuinely unusual name, spelled correctly, which sounds pretty to your ears.

Please don't consider a pretty name like Eleanor which is traditional, and then mis-spelling it. And mis-pronouncing it too. It's like insisting that those around you start spelling "apple" as "appull" because you don't like the correct spelling. "Appull" isn't unusual and unique, it's just wrong and clumsy. Right now it seems novel to you, but you may begin to be embarrassed by the deliberate mis-spelling in future.

Most people will attempt to spell names correctly as it goes against the grain to deliberately spell things wrong.

Elly-nor is not nice either spelled or pronounced that way, IMO. Sorry!

No

No

No

NO

Elinor with an 'i' is much less common so try that but don't spoil a perfectly good name.

Nice name but don't ruin it with a silly spelling. Just makes people think parents were a bit simple and could't spell

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 16:56

so how is it said? Elly Nor?

Or is is said in the usual way? If you are pronouncing it the usual way then it should be Eleanor - Ellynor is just wrong on all levels - sorry!

People will think you can't spell....anyway, I think Eleanor spelled in it's usual way looks so pretty, would be a shame to change it's spelling...
