DH has just suggested DOUGRAY for our impending DS. Comments please!

Our other choices include Alexander (hot favorite so far I think), also Mungo, Munro, Nairn, Hector and Rory.

DH has just suggested Dougray and my initial reaction was positive. Wondering what you ladies think to it (we are in Scotland, as you may have guessed!)

Honest opinions please, don't hold back.

delightedoldbag34 · 19/12/2008 18:30

Just got back from (traumatic) Christmas shopping to find this 4 page rant. Quite shocked at the strength of the 'NO'!

I still quite like Dougray though. We are in Scotland. We are looking for something perhaps not in the Top 20. Is there ANYONE out there who knows a real live one?

yes,me.it is a smashing name

hecAteAMillionMincePies · 19/12/2008 18:37

is it pronounced doug-ray or do-gray?

well, sorry, not that it matters I suppose, either is still (imo only of course) not very nice.

I like Hamish, that's nice.

hecAteAMillionMincePies · 19/12/2008 18:38

and when I refreshed and it brought me back to your op, I see that Hamish wasn't even ON your list! where did I get that from?

gomez · 19/12/2008 18:39

Top quality name Dougray.

Not Rory but Rhuaridh.

Hector or Hamish also good.

What about Coinneach?

ScottishMummy · 19/12/2008 18:40

top 100 boys and girl names scotland 2007 and 2008 nae dougray in top 100

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:10

I like it. I do slightly prefer Douglas tbh, with nn Dougray, but I also like Dougray!

Good name!

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:11

ps. I like Gray but short for Gregor not Grayson!!!

poinsettydog · 19/12/2008 19:13

don't like it.Prefer Alexander (Alex, Sandy) or Rory

poinsettydog · 19/12/2008 19:14

I really dont like the nicjname Dougie so that would put m e off

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:17

Gomez, lol at the suggestion of Coinneach!!!!!! Doesn't that mean, ahem, lady garden in gaelic!! pronounced Konyok.

I like Doogie as a nn for Douglas/Dougray/Dougal.

Wouldn't have liked Gray a while back, but as a nn for Gregor or Dougray it is less American.
